Ozkan

I decided to sample the orange blossom line again. I deleted my review of Ozkan because for some reason the dislike emoji was here, but I don't remember hitting that because I enjoyed this whole line and thought out of all 3 lines the orange blossom line made the most sense. I enjoy all of them, but Ozkan was my favorite. I love a romantic story and or inspiration behind a fragrance and this one has a good one. Ozkan is softly romantic and enveloping, like a gentle yet sensual caress from a lover. The leather in here is more of a suede bag. Very soft and powdery not rough and masculine, so for me this perfume leans feminine, but a man could wear Ozkan if so inclined. I prefer feminine leaning fragrances on men, and I know quite a few women who feel the same way. The cherry pie nuances of heliotrope are quite strong here giving the composition a sweetness, but everything is blended so perfectly that it is seamless. Like a well-made and expensive pair of suede gloves that cost a fortune. Ozkan and Dovana (from the musk line) were hard for me to get out of my mind so I suppose I will have to buy them. Both are soft, sensual but subtle. Dovana is more of a bedtime scent or a daytime perfume for the office. It is clean, feminine but safe. Ozkan is a date night perfume. Nothing is overtly sexual in Ozkan. It reads like a tender sensuality to me, like the lingering aftermath of a first kiss from a newly discovered love. A gentle, slow burning romance that takes its time, there is no rush.

Now that I'm through all the vanillas I'm moving on to the orange pack and Ozkan is first in line. It starts off very citrusy, floral and sweet - basically sunshine in a bottle, and it's very pleasant -- fit for a spring or summer day. At this stage it's a total crowd-pleaser in its rather linear simplicity, but it has more up its sleeve. Over time it evolves and becomes more complex, and to me much more interesting. The base notes move in but they never take over so you you retain some of that pretty opening, which mixes with the patchouli, tonka and leather, and it's a great combination. This starts out uber-feminine but lands, feet firmly planted, in unisex territory. I find this has a very vague resemblance to Chance EdT though the notes are not similar. This might be going on my FB list.

Bergamot patchouli tonka bean bitter orange peel opening. Deep and spicy, but still orange fruit, not flowers. Cashmere sweater perfume. I think the hay note from the immortelle makes it smell a little sexy, but not in a musky way—sexy-sexy. Someone else said it reminded them a little of Shalimar, and I was happy to read it because that was among my first impressions of it. It doesn’t smell like Shalimar, but it feels like a Guerlain. The orange blossom is supporting, but it does come through. Once it settles, the flowers emerge, and I get more heliotrope than citrus, and oh, I think it’s the saffron at the base that is again a very feminine, sexy smell. I love this more the more it fades. It's close but lingering on me. I enjoyed it all day, like a juicy little secret.

ozkan opens like fizzy, ‘Refresher’ or ‘Love Hearts’ sweets, chalky, effervescent and saccharine sweet. Somehow still bearable and wearable especially when you start to smell what’s at the core. Experience told me I could smell it in the opening and this would be a chameleon but it’s so funny how much of a 180 this does. I get Tonka and very reminiscent general ‘accords’ from Guerlain’s L’Art et la Matiere line, Cuir Beluga creamy and almost almond like and with the delicate touch of Iris ganache...loads of the good ones basically. This is very indulgent and well put together the orange blossom is there but somewhat second fiddle to a stunning base. I love it, and the sweetie opening is fun and interesting. The best one from this Orange blossom collection for me.

The opening is an odd mix of powdered Tang and a leather couch. Based on past experience, I assumed Ozkan would be a pass because leather is not one of my preferred notes. About an hour later I smelled something fizzy and beautiful. I could not figure out where it was coming from. That’s when I realized it was me—and I couldn’t get enough of Ozkan. A good performer with light projection, this is not an orange blossom scent on me. Ozkan is a blended cocktail of leather, floral and gourmand notes. I really like it, minus the strange opening. Gotta give this one time to open, then you’ll smell the beauty, at least that’s how it works on me.

Ozkan immediately reminded me of Emeraude, but with less powder and added leather. I love me some Emeraude and I usually like leather, therefore Ozkan is a winner for me. Ozkan lasts longer than Lady Emeraude so that's a definite bonus. It makes sense that this perfume is reminding many of Shalimar, since Emeraude is Shalimar's predecessor.

Great citrus fragrance, long lasting, beautiful and warm with a fresh opening. After I received my samples, Ozkan was the one that stood out for me. It can be easily a signature scent, the citrus makes it appropriate for summer but the warmth of the tonka bean and the spices makes it equally appropriate for colder weather.

Of all the perfumes I've tried, this is the one that reminds me most of the scent of my own skin, which I do love! It feels very natural and comforting. It's a leathery heliotrope, with sour bergamot, but I get something nutty and salty as well. It brings to mind dry landscapes, nomads trekking across a desert.

I love all Sylvaine Delacourte fragrances. I especially like to mix this with some of her vanillas. Vangelis mixes well with this. I like how they smell very natural. The tonka, vanilla and orange blossom keep me reaching for this one. Lots of compliments on these.

I get lots of almonds in this frag, surprised to see it's not in the note list though. It's a bitter yet creamy nutty leather scent. Unique and elegant! I want one if I buy any SD full bottles.

Very nice, but the immortelle almost ruins it for me. Must test some more.

Too sweet for me, almond - cherry vibes 5/10

Is this Sylvaine Delacourte's Ode to Shalimar? Though it eventually veers off in a different direction, for the first hour this reminded me so much of Shalimar edp, it was uncanny. I'm surprised no one else got that. Eventually it evolves into a soft floral scent, with orange blossom and heliotrope the most prominent, on a lightly spicy leathery base. I'm also picking up vanilla too, but it is different from Guerlain's vanilla. This is much easier for me to wear than Shalimar edp., and unlike that scent I think would work great in the warmer months too. Actually, it seems more geared to warm weather wear because even though it starts out very strong it soon lightens up and becomes very airy. While I do like this scent, I prefer Shalimar Eau de Cologne for warmer months, as I like the Guerlainade more than the spice combination used here. Still, this is a very nice and clearly well made fragrance, with good, though soft silage, and better than average longevity. If you also have difficulty with Shalimar edp, or want something that brings Shalimar to mind, while still being somewhat different, this could be a good alternative.

Good stuff, You can identify the main notes but the blend makes each smell unusual. I can smell the leather but it's not a generic nor strong leather, orange is a bit dirtier and darker than expected, not as sweet. Heliotrope and tonka are there, lingering in the background but not dominant. Shame that the leather accord as always give me a light headache, because I liked this fragrance. Give it a try, Although I think it's not the best of the line, it's different enough from the generic designer scents that you would want to sample it.

I very much love the opening of this. I will echo other reviewers though, and say the it morphs into something strange. Perhaps it's because I don't enjoy "leather" notes, but this just wears strangely on me (for a number of hours). Happily, by the closing notes of this, the odd-smelling note has gone away, and it's quite pleasant once again. I think this is best suited for cool days, and so I will revisit my sample vial later on in the fall, to see if my opinion changes at all

This was not bad coming from someone that does not love leather...the leather here is really deep like dark suede like leather, still manages to be wearable thanks to the orange blossom sweetness, totally unisex, in my opinion better on a man actually

On me I smell predominantly heliotrope & patchouli along with the orange blossom & leather; it's a pretty interesting take and conjures a light taupe color, which is quite chic!

My favorite of the line...that nutty smell is so comforting but could someone find à perfume weaker that this...i mean ...it will be a pass because of the close to zéro staying power.

I love the Vanilla Collection so I tried this Orange Discovery set. To my nose these 5 fragrances are not wowing me much. I think the composition of the notes in every one of the Orange set (osiris, olyssia, ozkan, oranzo, oscarine) seem off. The notes they chose are a strange match together. Also, unlike the Vanilla set, these scents strike me as coming off a little bit grandma-ish. Ozkan has some notes which I enjoy such as patchouli and tonka bean however, the tonka bean is still too dominant for me. However, if you enjoy bright neroli and orange blossom with some unusual herbal touches like pettigrain, or pine or sesame, this might be your cup of tea. These are a pass for me.

Smells leather, patchouli, tonka, powder, and orange blossom in that order. Sounds like a combo for a frat boy's car air freshener and that's exactly how it smells. Hard pass for me.

I have aggressively used my sample and now when it's time to review I have only the faintest mist left to test with, so I apologize if this review is not that complete - going off of what I have. I appreciate how unique Ozkan is. I wasn't expecting it to smell like this, in fact I wasn't sure what a leathery orange blossom should smell like. The leather here is like a Shalimar leather at times, sometimes citrusy and sour, sometimes smooth and sweet. There is no smoke here, though, so I'm not saying Ozkan smells like Shalimar! The tonka bean is most prominent in this fragrance. In fact, I had forgotten what tonka bean smelled like because in most fragrances where it's listed it sits on the back burner, and I can't tell if I'm picking it up. I smelled this perfume and said "Oh, right, that mysterious sweet smell is tonka bean." Ozkan has that powdery quality that many Sylvaine Delacourte perfumes have, here coming from heliotrope, I guess. It has a lovely and interesting perfume character, and I can imagine someone falling deeply in love with it and making it their signature fragrance.

From official website: Top notes: Mandarin. Heart notes: Orange Blossom, Everlasting Flower. Base notes: Leather Notes, Patchouli, Tonka Bean. It's the tonka bean that makes many think it's vanilla (I made the same mistake initially). I approach this from the viewpoint of someone who has used Knize Ten for decades; the overall structure of which (huge generalization) is animalic plus orange. So, I find this pleasant and light in comparison. I also use Shalimar EDP very often too, and yes there are many similarities. This, also, has a very good performance, but it mellows down a lot to a tonka-orange-slightly powdery drydown. That's the only reason I would not consider this a FBW. I wanted something with a stronger base (i.e. more leather).

This reminds me of Killian’s Black Phantom for whatever reason, even though the only note they share in common is heliotrope. They’re both dark, nutty gourmands (and I’d argue that Ozkan even has a slight booziness to it although not as much as Black Phantom) but the nuttiness here is from the heavy use of tonka bean. It’s almost like, I’m expecting something decadent when I smell this but because leather is the main note it’s not getting there and just falls flat of my expectations. Orange Blossom comes across as cola-ish. I’m not a leather-lover so I don’t mind this one, but I feel like anyone who picks it up expecting that inside-of-a-designer-bag vibe that leather fragrances have will be disappointed.

Mmm...I like Ozkan very much. This is an unusual scent. An initial cloud of orange blossom and citrus is joined after a few minutes by a delicious leathery note, deep and dry, which gives the scent a fascinating complexity. Wafts of warm, sweet heliotrope and tonka deliver cosy sweetness and light florals float above. The leathery note is just like diving deep inside a very expensive leather handbag, complete with perfume and lipstick, and stops the perfume from ever being too sweet. Fine quality and unusual, also being reminiscent of Guerlain as others have said.

Leather.. The heliotrope, tonka, & tonka makes that leather texture with an addition of cinnamon, & mandarin to make it sour a bit. It has bergamot, immorttel, & saffron but kept minimal at the background. It has bits of almonds, and almond shells to add more bitterness. The new collection is quite impressive, and i am enjoying the blends quite much, like this blend for instance, it's not smashingly new blend and amazing, but it's quite beautiful and easy to pull & wear anytime for anyone (including designers fragrances lovers). Beautiful.

Ozkan's combination of leather, tonka, and powdery florals is a beautiful take on Shalimar. It's less smoky, less citric, but that luxurious, almost edible core is there. What definitively sets it apart may be the immortelle note which adds a slightly bitter, earthy, almost vegetal facet to the composition. That note is likely the polarizing element here since immortelle isn't universally loved. But I find that it adds a pleasantly natural quality to the fragrance. Shalimar for the farmer's market set. I think it's really lovely.

Ozkan is the fraternal twin of Osiris; chalky and dry where Osiris is creamy, peppery where Osiris is green, but otherwise the same orange, to my nose, and equally agreeable. Ozkan opens orange, powdery and dry leather. If you're a leather-hater (like me), don't worry- it takes a very supporting role. Projection is great, longevity is decent and the citrus stays throughout- a characteristic talent of this house.

Opens with a loud powdery boom of tonka beans and heliotrope, sweetened by syrupy orange blossom. After a while, very aromatic leather notes start to appear, brought out by the medicinal/phenolic aspects of coumarin. It's well blended, but unfortunately I'm not a fan of tonka beans, heliotrope, and leather. Could be a signature scent for a lover of these notes though!

I love fragrances with tonka, which Sylvaine says is a big feature here. I don't know what it smells like alone though. This is a bit boozy and has a sweet cola note up front which settles beautifully. This is very unisex to me. I will douse myself with my sample tomorrow and give a better impression.

I don’t know what is doing this, but I just keep getting head-shop vibes. I guess in a good way? At first this was my favorite on paper from the Orange blossom collection but with time none of them seem to excite me at all.
