Vanori

Quick first impression: absolutely love!!!! Creamy yellow floral vanilla. If you like Cartier Baiser Vole Essence de Parfum, Chanel Beige, and Serge Lutens Un Lys, you will definitely love this! If you like Annick Goutal Songes, Viktoria Minya Hedonist, or M. Micallef Ylang In Gold or perfumes of that general style you should try this too, you will likely love this too. It’s simple but just wonderful and delicious. Bright and sunny and warm and golden. Yellow flowers and vanilla can be so beautiful together and Vanori is a shining example of that. Vanori is a bit more vanilla heavy than most yellow floral vanillas, which I like and sets it apart from the rest. The vanilla here is almost a gourmand vanilla cookie sort of vanilla, but just misses the mark on being that and instead remains a vanilla pod/bourbon vanilla type of vanilla, but on the very sweet end of this spectrum. Or perhaps it’d be more accurate to say that it’s equal parts of both kinds of vanillas. It’s a delicious mouth-watering vanilla that is almost gourmand but without being particularly foodie if that makes sense. At times, upon close whiff, it veers dangerously close to vanilla candle territory, but it never quite gets there thankfully. Hopefully this doesn’t change for the worse, as that’s the downfall of many vanilla fragrances for me. So far I’m really enjoying it. I tend to enjoy these types of perfumes-yellow floral vanillas-but sometimes they can get very cloying to me. So far Vanori has not had this issue. It has also avoided the other common pitfall of this fragrance genre, which is smelling like sunscreen or suntan lotion. Thankfully Vanori avoids this completely. I know some people like that effect and I don’t think you’ll find that here unless it goes totally different on your skin chemistry. This isn’t a sunscreen monoi oil beach scent, there’s no coconut here, this is a golden vanilla, and yes the florals in here are tropical and therefore it IS a tropical scent but tropical does not have to mean beachy and it certainly doesn’t here! This is a tropical floriental, a decidedly evening type of scent to me, makes me think of dressed up, semi-formal to formal nighttime events on some gorgeous tropical location. There may be beaches nearby, you may even be right on or by the beach, but there’s no sunscreen or suntan lotion or bikinis around, none of that. Like I said, semi-formal to formal. Women wearing dresses and men in suits or at least dress shirts and all that. The air is thick lush, dark green tropical leaves, intoxicating yellow and white tropical flowers, the faint, airy smell of smoke from lanterns and burning incense, the faintest aroma of ocean air, and fine perfume worn by the attendees. That’s what I picture when I smell Vanori. So far from this collection I’ve tried this and Virgile. They’re both very lovely, but Vanori is more magical. However, Vanori is also far better suited for the current weather here, so I’ll have to try Virgile again on a colder day to give it a fair shot. Performance so far is excellent, no surprise there as Virgile had excellent performance as well. I’ve yet to check what these are going for but as long as they’re not too expensive I will probably buy a bottle.

A gorgeous, golden floral, warm and embracing, but so fleeting!!! I can't justify getting a full bottle at this price for a scent that has me literally pressing my nose against my wrist after an hour to smell anything at all. I so wish Sylvaine Delacourte improved the longevity of the vanilla collection, because it is beautifully made, very natural smelling and elegant. I am so sad this is just a ghost of a perfume I could love. Upd: in cooler weather and with a more generous application on hair and clothes, longevity is actually better! Tangy honey, beautiful flowers that should be heavy but by some magic are light and solar. There's a slightly bitter note (grapefruit?) that inevitably brings to mind lilies but it's quite pleasant. I'm changing my mind about getting a full bottle... The scent that puts a smile on your face. Frangipani can be quite strong but not here. It's skipping along hand in hand with grapefruit. The honey is very natural and not too obvious. Like the others in the set it's very well blended but in this one vanilla is another note and does not dominate. I would be happy wearing this on a warm day and wouldn't have to worry it was too strong and heavy. This smells very natural and as usual very smooth and refined. I also own Jil Sander Style edp and there is a little similarity. Style lacks the essential grapefruit or billowy softness. Style has a lot of pepper. Good longevity and moderate sillage. It is quite a feminine scent but obviously wear what makes you happy.

Definitely my favorite from the collection so far. I can't pass up a delicious sweet floral fragrance. It opens fresh and bright, sunny, polleny, beautiful yellow flowers. Tropical and happy without any typical tropical scents. Just feels like running along through honeysuckle vines. As it dries down, it becomes sweeter and the vanilla emerges. It loses the slight greenness it had. I can't get enough of this, this is such a come cuddle me fragrance. Yummy. It lasts on my skin for 24 hours, although the projection is light - I can smell it on me, but you have to get pretty close for someone else to smell it. Next time I'm craving a vanilla, I will think about purchasing this one :)

I love this scent. But Fragranticas note list isn't quite complete and as such not quite representative of the perfume. This contains stryrax in it's base, and bam ~ along with the vanilla, grapefruit and honey you get a perfume that is a 2nd or 3rd cousin to Guerlains Oriental Brulant. The perfumer is the same for both. I'll take anything that close to my beloved OB. Still TBD is longevity on my skin. On clothing it's ok, but on my skin less than an hour. But these types of things need time and experimenting to find out for sure. Not a safe blind buy for vanilla lovers bc it's not front and center, it comes out to play, but never loudly or alone.

Oh how I fell in love with Sylvaine's fragrances (most of them anyway), got the testers first and fell in love with the Vanilla and Orange collection, I have most of them and a few more on my wish list. Vanori is such a beautiful, elegant fragrance, not overpowering while very long lasting; it is not one of those fragrances that announces my presence from miles away, but it is definitely elegantly strong and a compliment grabber, I always get told that I smell incredible and expensive when I wear this. This will always be in my collection, I am eagerly waiting for body lotions!

There are a lot of disparaging things said about Sylvaines beautiful scents on here. Of course you are not going to love or like every single one but please don't be so damn rude. Sylvaine is a Master in her field or Guerlain would not have touched her let alone employ her. If a scent doesn't work for you then fair enough. Blame your personal chemistry because that is the issue. There are tonnes of other scents that no doubt smell amazing on you. Go and enjoy those and learn to be more polite.

Very nice, sunny member of the "vanille" family of Sylvaine Delacourte. I get a fairly strong honey, with a bitter touch of the grapefruit which makes that it is not too sticky sweet. The frangipani is not very loud, but enough to give the perfume its tropical vibe.The base is a familiar, somewhat spicy vanilla, that reminds me of Guerlain.

The perfume is absolutely beautiful! Opens up very peppery and then goes softer and more sweet. I really don’t think that notes listed here are right though.. anyway, it is absolutely beautiful but unfortunately almost 0 projection and poor longevity. Though if you are into perfumes that sits close to skin, you might like it!

wow this should be exotic with the fragipani flower..but somehow it takes as back me to my childhood summer evenings in the village..my grandma used to raise some flowers with soft tiny blooms that smelled so much in the evenings so this is it! It's that flowers in that magical summer evenings

Delightful! Easy to wear, bright and breezy. Very natural ingredients, no chemical 'off' odor that some fragrances have. I think it's a lovely warm-weather fragrance. One of my favorites from her vanilla line.

Good news! It's likely Sylvaine will have matching body moisturizer etc in the future. I love this scent so I will be pouncing on that! That should help a lot with longevity.

Starts out with a blast of grapefruit that's almost as sharp as black pepper, which quickly recedes somewhat, then becomes a honeyed frangi vanilla bomb with a light citrus in the background. I was looking for a more complex vanilla citrus scent last summer and couldn't find anything I particularly cared for. While this one comes pretty close, especially because of the beautiful honeyed frangi notes, that sharp opening grapefruit note sort of puts a damper on the whole experience. I have the same issue with Jour de Hermes and the Chanel Gabriel line too. Oh well, looks like another scent with grapefruit I'll have to take a pass on. Too bad, because I really love the scent overall if not for that one sharp note. Came back to edit and it is now 3 hours later and that one spray on the back of my hand is still going strong and is clear all around me. This one seems to have amazing silage and longevity. Even while walking my dogs this afternoon, I could smell that one spray clearly. The grapefruit note is not as prominent but is still there. I sure wish they used another type of citrus instead of grapefruit. It would have been a win for me if they had.

All of these vanillas have something in common and they smell related. They're very simple, easy fragrances. Vanori is my favorite out of the bunch because it's tropical! It smells like gingery green bananas laced with gardenia or jasmine, honeyed warm skin and vanilla for good measure. The grapefruit adds a little sunshine and life to the fragrance. It's very linear. Soft projection after the first half hour, then it's a skin scent. It becomes a cozy, shy vanilla at drydown. Vanori smells a lot like my '08 Bronze Goddess Eau Fraiche Skinscent (really, though) without the coconut. It even has the same sort of slight resinous, partially smoky undercurrent that you get from myrrh in the EL. Both smell retro in a charming, posh way. But Vanori isnt nearly as complex or long lasting. EL outperforms it at every turn. It's like the designer and the niche traded places. Regardless, it is a lovely summer option that's reasonably priced.. I like it, but I don't love it. There are others in this category that do what Vanori does - better.

I love all of the vanillas from the vanilla collection. To my nose, Vanori is a fresh, cool vanilla with a honey note. The initial spray of Vanori is very green/sharp to my nose, and very similar to the opening of Vahina from the collection, but that only lasts a matter of seconds. It then turns into a a fresh vanilla with a honeyed note. In my opinion this smells VERY similar to Jo Malone's discontinued Blue Agava and Cacao (which I LOVE and miss). I'm guessing the honey note in this fragrance is similar to the blue agave note in the Jo Malone. The sillage and lasting power for all of the vanillas from the collection is rather weak, but I think this would be great any time of year.

This is a gorgeous, delicate frangipani, glistening with dew... The vanilla here is subtle, hiding behind honeyed musks. Yes, this is somewhat reminiscent of talcum powder, but Vanori is above and beyond that - I would imagine that this would be what the talc of royal families from the days of yore smells like. Full-bodied, yet not in-your-face. Has personality, but doesn't need to flaunt it. A comforting scent. Edit: The vanilla slowly emerges from behind the chiffon draperies about 2 hours after application. Graceful and elegant drydown.

Nose Note #315 Nice, really nice. Just what the notes say - very simple. Honey, vanilla and some flower scent (I've never smelled frangipani, but it sits in the same family with jasime). The smell is very natural. It also smell somewhat like TF Tobacco Vanille I'd even say it's amazing, if it were not so simple and depressingly weak. Sits super close to the skin. It's a pro if you are searching for an intimate scent though. For the scent profile I'd give it 5/5. Considering performance - 4/5. Is it discontinued? You can hardly find it now.

It's a cold gloomy autumn day, my mood has been rather low and I'm in need for a comforting warming scent. Vanilla is a safe bet in those cases. Here comes testing Favorite. At first it feels a bit too floral to count the chilly weather. But an hour later the cherished vanilla is master on a rather Woody scene. At this stage I feel a déjà vu and a memory of Un bois vanille de Serge Lutens - an old time favorite. To be seen as the hours go if Vanori will be up to the standard on longevity and sillage.

The notes here are way off on Fragrantica, here is what is says on there website: Sandalwood - Grapefruit - Vanilla - Jasmine - Baie rose - Benzoin - Styrax - Plumeria - Honey. This is beautiful, I’ll be on the hunt to add this one to my collection, it reminds me of Guerlain Angélique noir, it’s not the same, but something in here that remind me of Guerlain niche collection. It’s so therapeutic and beautiful. Love it. I bought samplers and this one is my favorite from this house.

An exotic vanilla scent that is soft, and very natural. I would think this would be perfect in summer heat. Average performance on my skin with little projection (but I’m guessing it performs a little better in warmer weather). I have one more in this discovery set to check out but so far I’m impressed with this house. I have a few others I like better, so this is a pass... but not because I don’t like it.

Interesting. On paper, it is a tangy, honeyed frangipani (though almost smells like ylang-ylang) with a vanillic dry down. It might even be a bit sharp for some looking for a creamier experience. However, on my skin - sunscreen. I may have bought the fragrance based on the test strip, but unfortunately I don't think it's quite as nice on me. Definitely has potential, but don't blind buy.

Gosh, this is a very soft vanilla honey tempered with white flowers. Warm and sensual whilst remaining gentle which is quite a feat given the notes listed! This is a little of what I imagine baby Poeme might smell like (delicate Poeme? Is it possible?) and I really, really like it. Softly sexy.

This is a light vanilla, perfect for the summer. All of the listed notes are noticeable. Overall, it is warm, sweet with just a hint of tropical flowers. When I wear it, I tell myself that I should wear it more often. It’s low key, and feels refined and understated.

All the vanilla fragrances from Sylvaine Delacourte are an ode a la vanille. For me they are all similar, same dry down. Nice scent but nothing really special. Sillage and longevity are soft and poor. For me it is not a full bottle.

Shame on me for thinking vanilla was warm, sweet, and heavy. Vanori is nice- soft and comforting, but light. Incredibly wearable- the opposite of a candle.

All the vanilla fragrances from Sylvaine Delacourte have the same lovely vanilla note. It's creamy, tropical, sweet and has a light, bright feel to it, there nothing dark or spicy about this vanilla. It's made from real, natural vanilla and it certainly does smell natural. Vanori is the lightest of the bunch and to me, it's the least exciting. I find this more woody than floral, in the opening I get a cedar-like note. I suspect it's from the sandalwood and the pink pepper which is not listed on fragrantica, but on the brand's page. A refreshing grapefruit is blended nicely into the vanilla, and underneath that are some soft tropical flowers. No heady, narcotic florals, just a soft hint. Overall this is an inoffensive, pleasant, high quality vanilla, but not complex or exciting or addictive. Very pretty, but there are so many more interesting fragrances that I wouldn't get this, especially not for the price.

I get a peppery spiciness when it opens, which admittedly is not what I expected from a "sunny vanilla" but it lightens up to become sweet and fluffy with a tad bit spiciness sticking around. The vanilla here is fluffy but the honey adds sheer fluidity that ironically makes it non-sticky altogether (the irony). Like a clear diluted honey. In its dry down it ultimately ends up a light honeyed powdery scent. If I could summarize Vanori development, I'd say it's a light vanilla with amber early on, honeyed in its later stages, sweet throughout, and elegant in the way it comes together.

This is a scent double for Alien Sunnessence Legere, imo. I'm smelling a ton of cashmeran, which isn't listed, but my gosh, it's got to be in here- unfortunately, this is overpowering everything else...

Almost lost the will to live in completing my reviews of this collection because the Vanilla ones just aren't that good. Vanori opens nice enough with a fresh, sharp and bitter grapefruit. There's an aroma chemical in here that I'm familiar with but can't place at the moment, in a woody context here it feels masculine, doesn't save this scent though. It feels misjudged in my humble opinion (which I'm sure people will disagree with) certainly after the initial freshness is gone. It can't tell whether it wants to go in a woody, aromatic direction or languish in a cloying, balmy vanilla hell? When settles there's a cozy woody smell in the base, familiar and slightly balsamic, rubbery nearly but despite that cozy warmth...it's not appealing. A couple of the Musc ones glimpse the spirit of vanilla heavy Guerlain offerings and I noticed someone comparing this to Angelique Noire below, sorry Angelique Noire this is not. Shame.

Yes, I don't particularly like this one. Sorry to be harsh, but fragrances in the collections from SD that are like this allow me to understand why some call her fragrances 'immature' or even 'childish'. Overly sweet, cloying (while it lasts) and just overall unpleasant to me. Really, truly not a fan of this one which is a shame because the rest of the collection is fine, if not fantastic.

This is 85% similar to Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess 2017 Eau Fraiche. Same tropical sunscreen vibe with elegant white florals. The only slight difference is the addition of a little bit of vanilla. I already have 2 bottles of Bronze Goddess so I don't need this one.

Smells identical to Tom Ford's Soleil Blanc after 5 minutes on the skin. So if you like SB this is a good, less expensive option. Longevity is maybe not that good but who cares.

I don't get Vanori. This fragrance smells like a weird fruity floral chewing gum. A hard no.

Cloying baby powder again. what a waste for my 19$ for samples..

Vanori is the first SD I've tested so far that I've actually liked but it's not something I could wear on its own because it is such a powerhouse of a sweet bomb (if you love really sweet fragrances you should check this one out!)! It could serve well as something to use for layering, but that's a lot of money to pay for layering scent. There's supposedly a grapefruit note but I never really got that. Instead I got a pretty linear and strong honey/frangipani mixture that stayed with me the entire day. If the vanilla was there it was totally drowned out by the honey and frangipani. I think if there had been more grapefruit/citrus to cut some of that sweetness, along with something in the base such as vetiver or more sandalwood, or if SD had shifted the proportions (less honey/jasmine/frangipani and more of the top and bottom notes) this might've been a love for me, but it's just a lot of straight sweetness with little evolution and complexity. I was also hoping that this might be a dupe or very similar to L'Artisan's now discontinued Vanilia, which I really loved, but sadly have been unable to find. When I woke up today I could still pick up a hint of Vanori and suddenly remembered Lancome's Poeme from 1995, which I wore but ended up giving to my sister for the same reasons -- too sweet, too linear, no complexity, which is surprising as Poeme is packed with a lot of different notes unlike the SD. I'm beginning to lose hope that I will find a treasure among my SD samples, but at the least, it's always fun to test new scents.

The ingredients above seem pretty accurate. At first spray, I get a burst of citrus, then honey and vanilla. After seconds the SD famous smoky/ spicy vibe kicks in. At dry down, about an hour later, I get a sweet vanilla, with citrus falling into the background. The spicy vibe disappears to the back. There is another sweet but fiery smell that I feel is cinnamon (although not listed) and I think I can smell mint (again, not listed) and the final smell which is very weak and close to the skin is quite a creamy sweet vanilla. It is lovely when it reaches the end but it is so close to the skin, I can only smell it when I put my nose to it. It lacks power. I find that this range takes so long to reach base but the whole Vanilla range have lovely dry downs. A chameleon range I say, but lovely.

Although I’m not usually into tropical fragrances, the warm, rich resins in Vanori- not listed here for some reason but it contains notes of benzoin and styrax- elevate it above other perfumes in that category. It’s delicious and honey-sweet. I’ve noticed that although I’ve had difficulty with that note in other perfumes, Sylvaine Delacourte does honey right. I’m considering if this is full bottle worthy for me since I find the smell rich and addictive; my brain places Vanori in the Gourmand category even though I’m not totally convinced it belongs there. I’ll keep testing as I’m unimpressed with how long these fragrances last before they become mildly pleasant skin scents.

Yellow Smokey honey resin . Amusing yellow floral sweetness, i can smell a natural earthy frangipani mixed with vanilla honey sweetness. The honey used in here is quite rooty and kind of dirty that added bitterness to the sweet vanilla frangipani. I can sense some tea notes in here (Oolong) so is the resin which makes it captivating. It just whiffs between rooty frangipani resin and sweet vanilla that makes it a bit feels overly sweetened then bit bitter and sour. This is a love to me as i was enjoying every bit of it from frangipani to bitter natural honey.

Yuck! I just wrote in a different review that I'd wear all ten of ms. delacourte's vanilla and musk perfumes, even though none of them are very memorable, but I forgot about this one! To me it smells like old perfume residue you'd smell in one of those avon collector's figurines, or an old bottle of cheap 1960s floral perfume. I never like citrus fragrances, though; other people seem to like this one just fine! I wonder if they would call it as much of a crowd-pleaser. This one didn't quickly fade down to vanilla the like others, so I had to wash it off.

I sure didn't get much vanilla in this one. First on, it was very peppery and woody, with almost no citrus or other notes. It did dry sweeter, but there were no stand out notes, not much of any thing at all, except a very sheer, almost non-existant...I don't know. It was so sheer that all I could detect was the peppery wood. I'm suspecting the SD Vanilla line is not compatible with my chemistry. The Musk line was far superior and my fav of that line smells like it has ten times the vanilla in it that this does. Pass.

Grapefruit and orange, frangipani? I don't know exactly what I smell here, but reminds me of a Christmas candle...maybe an orange pomander? it opens sweet and pretty but the drydown gets more and more like a candle maybe at some point it also smells like suntan lotion... I feel disappointed. A sample is more than enough. Edit/Update: The late drydown is where the magic start. I love the late drydown, it brings up a little resin not mentioned in the notes, maybe benzoin. I wish it were like this from the beginning.

SD calls this a sunny vanilla. Creamy fresh citrus vanilla in a box of cedar is what it smells like to me, and I can see this having great appeal to women in their 20s and 30s. A custom box of these scents for me would be 2 Vahina, 1 Virgile, and 1 Vanori. Oh how I hope they come out with body oils to intensify the scents. I don't love all of the 10 scents but like enough to have bought some of the smaller sprayers. I am still mulling over the big bottle too. Keep an eye on this perfumer.

Sylvaine my darling, what have you done? Why have you taken most of your fragrances away? It’s almost criminal to see you have stopped producing this magnificent piece and others. It’s sad the bottles have been downgraded too. They don’t deserve that awful presentation. Question is why? The house Sylvaine Delacourte was perfect as it was. The new bottles are so hideous compared to the old ones. Terrible choice for a prestigious niche house that had it all. Why? What happened?

From official website: Top notes: Grapefruit, Pink Pepper. Heart notes: Honey, Jasmine, Plumeria. Base notes: Styrax, Benzoin, Sandalwood, Vanilla. Plumeria is another name for Frangipani. The grapefruit note is much stronger than what appears here on notes, and overall there is a sharpness and freshness that makes this perfectly unisex. In fact, it's very much a cologne-style perfume.

Oh wow! Instantly delicious. Warm, sunshine yellow scent, grapefruit there, but not in your face, or on your tongue (as some can be). This is a really happy scent, perfect for a grey miserable looking day like today. Sweet vanilla, but not sugary, lifted by grapefruit, and anchored by be floral. A poster below mentions a baby Poeme, and I think yes it could be!

This is nice but unfortunately, it is the powder and not the vanilla that stands out for me. Reminds me of a very close version of DSquared Want. Not a FB purchase for me, mainly because I prefer a creamy vanilla not powder. But nonetheless, this is a well blended feminine scent.

A honeyed tiare opening....and somehow..spicy-ish undertones/vanilla powder....but IMO....goes right to shower gel/lotion/shampoo type scent. Smells nice,but, been here done that type scent...sigh....

I am wearing Vanori and enjoying it very much. It is a gorgeous, sunny, slightly spiced and yet powdery-sweet vanilla. Sylvaine Delacourte is a genius as all of her perfumes are beautifully blended.
