Cologne Du Maghreb (2021)

Beautiful, but frustratingly fleeting. In what feels like less than a moment, it's like it was never there.

A nice Cologne. Citrus sampler. Bought it once the temps hit 110. High Summer or Indian Summer wear.

I was astonished when I finally peeked at the "notes list" for this after applying my rather generous sample -- my first impression was that of a tart, zesty *lime*... not a lemon! (This was, oddly enough, what made me enjoy it so much. The fact that I perceived it as lime made this cologne unusual and refreshing, and it immediately caught my attention. It was unique and captivating to me!) I could also detect hints of grapefruit and bergamot -- which was, again, a pleasant experience. After the burst of fresh citrus fruits, it settled down quite nicely into a well-blended mix of something a bit citric, slightly bitter, yet mildly floral (mostly, I picked up geranium and neroli) and woody, with a hint of green all the way through. The veitver never turned into a heap of damp grass, and the ambergris note didn't use any of my dreaded nemesis, ambroxan (which smells like ammonia to me). So, on the whole, I was intrigued and impressed! Quite frankly, it's a well-made fragrance! Cologne du Maghreb never strays far from the skin, so the wearer runs little risk of overpowering anyone else's nose. Of course, the inevitable downside to that facet of the cologne is the lack of longevity. (Believe it or not, I would willingly forgive the lack of sillage in this case, and I'd be happy to have this be one of those fragrances that I enjoy "just for me," because it really *is* that invigorating and different. However, the brief duration on my skin combined with the cost per bottle create a high hurdle, indeed.) I would *love* to own a full bottle of this! Truly, I would! However, the lack of staying power, combined with what would otherwise be an eau de parfum price point, forced me to pause and put my wallet away. (If they sold this in a 200ml bottle for a more affordable price, I'd buy gallons of it.) YMMV, of course. I recommend trying it, as it's definitely a beauty!

A simple and redundant, albeit refreshing and lovely cologne citrus bomb! Opens up with a bright blast of lemon, petitgrain, and clementine, surrounded up in a green, lavender heavy bow. Then, as it quickly begins to dry down, you get that classic Italian cologne, citrus/neroli combo but with a slight Tauer twist on it, as the lavender and clementine harken back two of his previous creations - L'Air Des Alpes Suisses & Orange Star. There isn't much development after this besides some minty rosy edges that are probably from the aromatic greens mixing with the geranium and rose oil in here. A very good classic cologne style fragrance, but still not enough of a change to go out rushing to buy a full bottle for me. One of the more "realistic" takes on the genre, as the aromatics and citrus' in this are super high quality and realistic. One of those super refreshing fragrances that you can just BATHE in, for any and all situations. While I prefer a multitude of his other works over this one, Tauer doesn't really ever miss. This would be a fantastic buy if you could find it for $80 or less. Good performance for an Eau de Cologne concentrated fragrance, about 4-6 hours with 4 foot projection when hot and sweating, intimate sillage otherwise. 7.5/10. Song vibe - The Golden Hour by Louie Zong TLDR - Tauer's take on the classic citrus, white floral cologne style fragrance. A lemon, clementine, and petitgrain bomb with a healthy amount of green surrounding its edges, very realistic and refreshing. A must try if you are a fan of cologne styled fragrance or if already a fan of Tauer's work, but can be redundant in the oversaturated market of citrus/white floral fragrances.

When I sampled it, it seemed very Lemon Pledge to me. Now with a full wearing, the orange notes come out a little bit. It reminds me very much of Original Vetiver from Creed, just with the Tauerade base giving away its DNA. Of course it is very light, with ok sillage, and poor longevity, very much like Original Vetiver. It's very pleasant and inoffensive as well. It could make a nice daytime/office, just going through the day type of scent. This would be redundant if you already have Original Vetiver or a similar summer vetiver/lemon orange citrus scent, but this would be worthy of filling that category.

I love this scent--fruity, woody, and spicy--but I agree it is too weak (both in terms of sillage and longevity) to justify the price. This is like a very lovely eau de cologne, and as such it should be priced like one. It's a pity, because I really do enjoy the refreshing Mediterranean accords in this.

Very nice! Citrus on opening I get lemon/orange plus some warm spice cinnamon and cardamon. Citrus evaporates quickly leaving the wonderful spice notes with orange blossom. This is a cologne so it runs 'weak' as compared to EDP of course but that is a good thing if ye seek subtle. Great for summer

the way your hands would smell after smoking a cig, then peeling a tangerine, then dabbing some 4711.

I tested it on paper only. It was so pretty! But it did fade quite a lot, and quickly.

Even Acqua di Parma Colonia, the classic signature from ADP last way way longer, and cost half of the price on discounters market! I mean, why i have to spend 150-160 Euros to a cologne that didn t even last 20 minutes? Come on, its so thin, ffs! The scent its so nice smelling, everithing its in balance, but very very poor thenically executed! I also percieve that almost all Tauer parfumes doesn't last very long on the skin, which is a shame and a huge disappointment! I had higher expectations from Tauer, but this is where the "experimental" factor of an experimental perfume niche comes in. You can't always expect something stable and 100% diffusible!

I also get an opening hit of lime that is my favorite part of the fragrance(I see a reviewer below also got this). It’s a cologne and meant to fade but wow this one is nonexistent on my skin. I never get more than a fleeting hint of geranium or neroli. Test before buying. Beautiful. Well constructed. If it lasts on your skin I could see it being a real favorite. If it was cheaper I’d buy some and reapply all day long in summer.

I don't think an artisanal/niche priced cologne really works as a concept. I love Andy Tauer's work and I'm sure the quality of the ingredients reflects the price but there's only so much you can do with the structure. It's a bit of a dead end; whatever twist it has will be long gone by the time you get out of the house. I like the prominence of the vetiver and geranium but any $40 cologne completely scratches the itch for me.

I've been testing a sample Cologne du Maghreb for the past week. And what i get is this Colognia scent that a lot of middle eastern people keep at home to refresh themselves after they wash their hands or just to refresh through the day. It's nice but nothing that warrants a 145 dollar price tag. I get the citruses, and a very subtle lavander with amber and small hints of rose water.

I’m a sampler and a one spray guy. I’ll have to try wearing this with multiple sprays because the one spray was pleasant for 20-30 minutes then faded to nothing very fast. Not even skin scent for me by one hour. I can’t even comment on the notes it was so fleeting. 2/10.

Does it measure up to Aqua di Gio? Does it match Dior Cologne? These and other questions call for reflection on the justification of producing such perfumes. Even if we answer these questions affirmatively.

Nice but done a million times over, often better. A pretty disappointing release imho from a perfumer capable of way more. Rated it OK.

Smells amazing.... For 20 minutes, then it almost vanishes completely. "Intimate" 😅 4/10

A pleasant cologne chock full of citruses at the top that can't wait to disappear, dispensed by a smooth grapefruit note and Andy's favorite note, geranium, which I believe has had its less-pleasant camphoraceous facet (that Andy also loves so much) toned down by the addition of pink roses. The green, aromatic, and slightly swampy/salty vetiver base (that he also used in Marocain) takes over within 30 minutes. The notes rush away as quickly as the cologne's longevity, which is very poor. Pleasant, but far, far from being worth the money. There's not much else to say, except for maybe that every maison has a failure at some point.

It is truly one of the worst fragrances i' ve smelled, but in a niche way!
