FINALLY. Finally I have found a chocolate scent that works for me! Reader, I have searched high and low for something like this. Dark chocolate, milk chocolate, chocolate with violets, chocolate with fruits, chocolate with cream, chocolate with booze... No matter what I tried, one of two accords always seemed to emerge: burnt rubber or Cocoa Puffs. Either an excessively dark, charred, bitter and wholly overwhelming experience, or something akin to Tootsie Roll flavored lip balm. Heraud defies this. It’s a perfect balance between milk and dark chocolate, never straying too far in either direction and, because of this nuance, never becoming cloying or juvenile. It’s absolutely sweet and densely sugary on account of the dates, but is tempered just enough by the darker elements (the cocoa and woods) and a mature, creamy vanilla that it never ends up in toothache territory. I can’t say I detect the white blossoms, but there is something just slightly bright and buttery in the background here and maybe that’s it. The bergamot, too, is fleeting, but it serves as a nice citric introduction to what becomes a rich but entirely wearable gourmand. If you’re like me, and you’ve struggled to find a chocolate fragrance that’s just right, definitely give this one a shot. It does not disappoint.

I am a fan of Taur fragrances- I have been buying his elixirs for years and have had ay least a sampler of most of them. So I decided to splurge on a bottle of this when I received the email that it was out. The description of delicious cocoa sounded incredible. I have received it today and WOW, I'm so glad I got this! It smells like chocolate all the way down. Not in a sweet, cloying way. I am easily overwhelmed by sweet scents, but this is more of a dry chocolate with a hint of sweetness. Initially it opens like a burst of sweet cocoa, then it dries down to a more cedar vanilla base. The dry down is a bit similar to Atelier Vanilla Incensee. Not that it smells the same but it has the same dry vanilla sense to it. I think this stands out from other perfumes that Tauer has done, so even if you don't usually like his style I would give it a try. If you don't like the smell of chocolate though, I wouldn't go for it! Thank you so much Tauer! Another gem. Well worth the price.

Heraud becomes a realistic and perfectly balanced chocolate perfume on my skin. The scent spotlights rich chocolate notes, dried fruits, and creamy milky vanilla. This is a decadent composition, where the smooth, buttery chocolate blends beautifully with the sweetness of dried fruits. At the same time, the vanilla adds comfort and a milky touch that makes the fragrance feel very pampering. Furthermore, in the dry down, you could feel the Tauer ambergris accord that feels like dusty cocoa with spicy woody notes wrapped in a vanilla cone waffle. This perfume is a Gourmand very exquisite. It's unisex, wearable, and not cloying. It develops sensually and radiates without being too potent. It reminds me of Sorriso by Profumum, but with a wonderfully natural chocolate smell. This fragrance truly stands out from Tauer's other perfumes. Also, please give 5 minutes at least in your skin before deciding if you love or despise.

I just got a sample of this, and there is definitely a bottle of Heraud in my future. It's so delicious, but the dry, dusty woods temper the sweetness of the cacao and dates just perfectly. I'm not really getting much in the way of florals except as an undercurrent that balances the denser notes, but that's fine, no one is going to buy this perfume for that reason. I've been kind of obsessed with date notes recently, and I love to eat them too; this is definitely a gourmand, and unabashedly so. This fragrance will satisfy anyone in search of either dates or chocolate. Yet another winner from master perfumer Andy Tauer!

Powdery woods, plenty of Iso E Super, which gives the impression of powdered cocoa rather than syrup or cake. White flowers perhaps add a clean touch and the date note feels like more of a support to the cocoa. Tauer often uses ambergris notes but I have never gotten any unpleasant animalic notes off my skin, and this is no different. Ultimately it's a sweet powdery woods composition featuring some kind of difficult to acquire cacao ingredient, it will be fascinating to some but others may balk at the price. I enjoy it a lot.

Sweety and bittery chocolate, like a medium choco bar 40%, with some dusty earthy undertone. Of course there is powdery ambery and woody Tauer DNA. With some creamy warm vanilla The chocolate note came for the start until the base. I don’t know if it because its Swiss brand or no but really remind me with a Swiss chocolate.

I am not shy about being so intrested by this brand so I wont hide that I am a big fan of this house and just cant wait to smell it... I wish it is as good as recent ones and perfect as the initial ones

Both Sexy and decadent! It’s versatile and in my opinion on the scale of gourmands in my experience it’s not as sweet as other perfumes I may own. But sweet never the less. A successful blind buy!

I've been for years in the hunt for THE realistic chocolate perfume. I have Heraud, Chocolate Greedy (the waffles come true), Chocolate Queen (dolce de leche pops out), Choco musk (good, bur very vanilic, Gourmand Coquin and Feve Gourmand (boozy, chocolatey, incense), Velvet Choclate (the classic artificial Chocolate orange people call tootsie rools). I have tested or owned for a short period many others: Akron Dark (very realistic, but the opening is medicinal and the chocolate fades fast), Black Phantom (very woody), Prada Candy Night (dusty cocoa, not chocolate), Chabaud Lait au choclat (hot chocolate). Heraud is what I call niche. The opening is veryyyy animalic in warm weathers. The dry down is what I always watend from dark chocalate fragrances. It iis like a bar of 80% chocolate, dark, intense... with ambergris, cedar and musk close by

Bitter dusty chocolate and warm creamy milky/vanilla background: together they give a beautiful rendition of milk chocolate. The scent is mid to base heavy, no real high notes, this wears similar to the brand's other offerings with the characteristic dry Tauer ambergris accord but the extreme dryness is somewhat offset by the vanilla. Dries down to a more dusty cocoa with spicy woody notes. Very Gourmand, very unisex, wearable and not cloying. Sticks out from the rest of Andy's creations, very different! This starts out as an ultra-sweet chocolate - nicely realistic, not a synthetic scratch-and-sniff chocolate but a bit too sweet for me. Then it loses the sweetness as it transitions into an ultra-dry, woody vanilla. It goes from very feminine to very masculine. It’s quality, but not one for me.

A very dusty scent. smells like old powdered chocolate. Nothing like a sweet bar of chocolate or hot chocolate. To me, it smells like there is actual dust mixed with the chocolate. Smells different from other cocoa scents. I like it.

i really don’t know how to feel about this, it ventures far out from regular tauer fragrances. on the opening i get a sweetness from the dates and the cocoa note. as it drys down it still remains sweet but also comes across slightly dry and bitter it calls to memory a chocolate bar that’s been left out and slightly chalky.. it’s interesting i don’t know if i like it... though i don’t dislike it. okay update everyone who i’ve asked to smell this has said it has undertones of either playdoh or crayons

A compulsively sniffable and very interesting and unusual opening, a lovely woody vanilla dry down, but the heart is dominated by a synthetic and cheap smelling note. What a shame.

Smells like burned butter on my skin. Hard pass.

In the first moments, Heraud gives me a preview of sweet ambergris cream and florals, before settling into a heavy milk chocolate with a dusty-dry woody backdrop. I'm usually a Tauer fan, but this effect is oppressive. It gives me an overstuffed, too-much-dessert feeling. This is full-on, sweet, realistic chocolate, with a dusty choking quality. If I'm going to like a chocolatey perfume, it's going to be darker and less sweet; I enjoyed AbdesSalaam's Milano Caffe, Apoteker Tepe's Pale Fire, and Jovoy's Psychedelique, which all have a lot of dry, aquiline amber notes to set off the chocolate. Heraud is really more milk chocolate than dark cocoa, and thus feels more like a dessert. Maybe half an hour in, i can discern dried fruit as well as chocolate (presumably the "dates"), and some more interesting musky nuances. Now it's drier and less oppressively chocolatey; it's more like chocolate and desert air. Still musty and dusty, and now a little bit salty and breathy. This is probably the ambergris kicking in. Heraud is really not my thing. Maybe it works if you're a gourmand fan? though some commenters seemed to find the musky backdrop an unwelcome distraction from dessert. I don't think it's a *failed* perfume, though -- it's clearly doing what it sets out to do. A chocolate-centric variation on Tauer's trademark ambergris-and-dry-woods theme makes sense, it's just not what I want to smell like. But it's still deep, strong, nuanced; a real fragrance. As good an example of Tauer's usual craftsmanship as most of the other fragrances in his lineup.

I will start with the positive. It smells like a piping hot chocolate /cocoa drink, noticeably milky/laconic. Nicely sweet, creamy and even tasty! Rich and intoxicating. Performance is superp, initial application can suffocate you, but after that it is super long lasting, etc. Now onto the negative. This is way too animalic (amvergris!) for me, who just wants a delicious gourmand. It has ithis signature Tauer's vibe, heavy, unique, slightly too much and even a tiny bit dated. There are some florals which I prefer not to have in my chocolate, and in Heraud they do not compliment the whole blend. It reminds me of Golestand (AMVERGRIS, Tuberose..), but somehow I like Golestan and dislike Heraud. Overall, if your are looking for something unique, it is worth a shot. But if you want a nice gourmand, then there are way better options out there.

Powdery sweetness but not too much, a nice chocolate note but let down by a kind of plasticcy synthetic sheen over the entire fragrance. If this was a designer fragrance I'd say it's not bad, but I think this is a let down for a Tauer.

I was disappointed after testing Heraud. If you expect photorealistic chocolate bar (milk or dark), then this is not it. I didn’t get chocolate throughout the wearing, more like a sweet vanillic date scent. The down side is this scent lasts and project even after I washed my hand a couple time. It only went away after a shower 18 hours after the initial spray. Good stuff if performance is what you’re after.

This is Tauer or Hugo Boss? A big disappointment.

All I smell is ambroxan but will keep testing.

It's a shame that people review so many perfumes before the perfume has time to macerate a while. This is why so many people express dislike for a perfume, then 3 months later they fall in love with it and wonder why. When I first got Heraud, I wrote a fairly negative review and then remembering my own advice on maceration, I deleted the review. I am glad I did that. I let the perfume sit for a few weeks and recently tried it again, falling in love. Heraud is so beautifully blended after macerating that I find it hard to pick out individual notes. It's like symphonic music where all the instruments are hitting the right notes simultaneously and become more than individual notes. Do not expect a true chocolate gourmand here. Cacao and cocoa are not the same. Cacao is the bean; cocoa is the product one gets from roasting the cacao bean. This is why Heraud will not be a true chocolate cocoa gourmand, if that is what you are looking for. Heraud is more of a warm dusty scent with a slight hint of cocoa wafting throughout. I love the way the dates offer their own dark sweetness to the scent. Dates are often used in mideastern perfumes and I appreciate the way Mr. Tauer added them to the scent, a sweet fruity accent that lifts the cacao note.

Not sure why Fragrantica chose to classify this as a "oriental vanilla," which put me off as well. A review of the Tauer site tells a different story. Sounds like a cocoa-centered perfume with only a supporting vanilla note: "One of the central pillars in the perfume formula is the double distilled extract of COCOA beans from the Ivory Coast. Very hard to get, not available every year, produced in smaller batches: HERAUD might not be available at all times. This is the sacrifice we have to pay for quality. Here is a technical detail for you: this cocoa beans absolute is overdosed in the perfume formula and radiates lovely throughout the entire perfume. Head notes: an uplifting Bourbon bergamot oil, balancing a bitter cocoa head note. Heart notes: fruity, milky cocoa with the sweet notes of dried dates. A natural touch of clean white florals. Base notes: dry timber and spicy cedarwood, sensual Planifolia vanilla, clean powdery musk and crisp ambergris." There is also an article on Bassnotes with lots of quotes from Andy that confirm this.

Sweetness of dates, bergamot and white florals give this a little bit of a bubblegum scent at the beginning. The date note is very noticeable throughout for me, combined with milk chocolate/cocoa powder which somehow seems creamy and dry at the same time. Cocoa is prominent but more subtle than in for example feve gourmande. The cocoa is not the first thing you smell in this, but the note that stays in your mind, if that makes sense. Great gourmand leaning scent, it’s subtle enough (not too gourmand) to be distinctly a Tauer, but very sweet compared to his other fragrances. 5.5/10

A big blast of sweet cocoa and norlimbanol bolstered by a nice dose of various realistic sandalwood aroma chemicals. I can feel what he was trying to do here and I do like it, though it sits heavier on the palate. I feel like a bigger dose of musks and bergamot may have helped round it out a bit, but maybe he did that already. Despite the hate it receives I actually enjoy it quite nicely. 7/10

I really disliked this. I'm not sure if it is the ambergris or what... but its like there are two distinct smells in this that are not blending together into a cohesive perfume. There is a chocolatey sweet part that smells great, and something else that smells sour/chalky. It actually made my stomach turn. Scrubbed off immediately.... and its still even lingering.

On first blast, I am reminded heavily of to two perfumes: Initio's Side Effect (yikes, but this is much more natural smelling than that) and of Vanille Havane. This is very sweet with the dates and smells rather feminine. I would not buy this but do not mind the scent.

i got a decant sample so maybe it macerated, but ive never smelled anyhting like this! it's buttery, powdery, delicious-smelling, has a powdery / dusty aspect. it is dusty, airy and sweet, like hiding in an old attic as a kid and enjoying chocolate toffee.

Agreed with the synthetic nature, so I had an idea...made a frankenscent. I mixed my Heraud sample with an equal part of Incense Rose and a couple squirts of Incense Extreme. Adds a chocolaty note to the incense and works for me.

Stunning dry, spicy and sexy smell - with a subtle dessicated coconut and creamy white floral note. I love this and it performs/lasts so well. This is what I expect from a papyrus type perfume - blissful and classy fragrance.

Reminds me of the sweet Coca Cola note from Paco Rabanne Pure XS. Bit surprised this is a Tauer fragrance, I'm almost wondering if the company I purchased a sample from gave me the wrong fragrance

His recent creations are getting sweeter and sweeter. I am enjoying Vanilla Flash and I am not keen on another Tauer vanilla with extra sweetness from 'dates' note.

W...t....h.... SO disapointed. This is overdosed with ambrocenide like everything else nowadays... and this has like ALOT. Be careful, you will choke people out.

Good, but too sweet and simplistic - I expected more complexity and depth.
