Sundowner

Warm and cozy like a blanket upon your soul. When its cold outside, Sundowner it covers you. I finally found that warm tobacco, in which you can sink like in a blanket when the cold sets in outside in the autumn or winter or when you try to cover your nose from rain, wind or when it's freezing outside. You are desperately looking for a warm place and this feeling gives you Andy Tauer Sundowner. On my way through the world of perfumery, I once came across Burberry London, a perfume that stuck to my heart for a lifetime. That warm tobacco with cinnamon accompanied me for a long time through the rainy autumns and frosty winters, giving me a feeling of comfort and warmth. Unfortunately, its performance is not very good and I didn't find a similar one. Until a few days ago when I tested Andy Tauer Sundowner. A very deep scent given by a dark cinnamon mixed with ambergris, tobacco and sandalwood. The rose in this composition does not offer a floral sensation but rather sweet-woody and the powdered cocoa is felt from the first moments of the perfume. The scent is far from very sweet or sticky. Its Fuller, richer as he keeps the DNA of his house from the L' Air. The sandy, dusty note can be felt here as well, as I said, cocoa plays a decisive role. The dominant notes are undoubtedly tobacco and cinnamon but all the others can feel independent. Both the orange peel and the bergamot that makes it a little fruity and effervescent on opening and the cocoa and cypriol oil that give it a note of masculinity, hardness despite its warm character. It looks like Burberry London from a perspective, it's warm, not very sweet and from my point of view, although it is branded as unisex inclined towards the masculine side. The quality of the grades is superior. Although there are whole combinations of tobacco and something sweet, Sundowner comes with something new that makes it somewhat unique. Longevity is above average, over 8 hours and the cold weather feels pretty good. When the sun disappears, when the daylight fades and the cold overwhelms you, Sundowner warms you up.

Despite what others may say, I think you can wear this in warmer weather. Just go light on the sprays. It is sweet,but not too sweet. Almost up to the line of too sweet. Yet just stops before that. The Cinnamon, Cacao, Tobacco, Cypriol Oil, Tonka Bean and Ambergris do make a nice combination. If you thought Amouage Royal Tobacco was too bold or too Woodsy, then try this. Much sweeter.Also, if you enjoyed Parfum de Marly Herod. Some may smell a type of baby oil scent. Could be Cypriol mixing with the Vanilla and Tonka Bean My only issue would be that it is only in a 50ml bottle. Tauer should make a 100ml bottle. And maybe the Ambergris note should be amplified. Sundowner is in my top 10 for sure. I noticed that the Ambergris shows up after about 45 minutes. Last week I had two women kiss my cheek and had to know what I was wearing. It was Sundowner. They also wanted a few sprays to wear. Ambergris I think may have been the reason here. It can be animalic After a few hours Sundowner can remind you of Derviche by Rogue Perfumery. That one wears like the drydown of Sundowner. If you think Sundowner is too strong but you like some notes then try Derviche. It is a softer Sundowner

While reading through reviews on Fragrantica, someone noted that Sundowner reminded them of L’Instant by Guerlain, and I have to agree. As I smelled it, I had the sense it echoed something familiar, and now I can clearly see the shared DNA. That said, Sundowner stands on its own. The tobacco and cacao are more pronounced, giving it a deeper, richer personality. As Andy Tauer himself noted, Sundowner is a study in contrasts. It feels both fresh and shadowy, luminous and deep, all seamlessly intertwined. It leans into quiet indulgence and introspection, much like the moment when the sun dips below the horizon. The kind of sunset that paints the sky in rich oranges and deep reds, fleeting, warm, and unforgettable. In terms of sillage and longevity, I only tested a single spray from a sample on my arm, so my impression is still forming. I’ll definitely need to wear it a few more times to get a full sense. At this stage, I’d give it an 8/10. It’s a wonderfully crafted spicy scent with real character. If the performance holds up over time, I could easily see it becoming a 9/10.

There was an old bag of Virginia pipe tobacco at my house growing up, stored in an airtight contained, and I went through a short phase of smoking a pipe myself (cringe? yes. but relevant to this review). The tobacco in this perfume is the exact smell I had stuck to my fingers after packing a pipe, that well-aged tobacco with a mellow, sweet backdrop but still potent and so, so heavy. This perfume is beautiful and well-balanced, with an aromatic opening which does such a great job of introducing the tobacco which is dry in the sense that it's a proper smell of real, good quality tobacco. The base notes are here again, as with all Tauer perfumes I've tried so far, as a balanced symphony to support the main characters and add to the experience. There's sweetness of vanilla, depth from tonka and woodiness of sandalwood. I got just under 6 hours of wear time out of it. Sillage was strong in the first but then low for the remaining 5 hours (so I guess moderate on average?).

Im completely not competent enough to tell a perfumer what to do but from that ignorant position I can say that there's some aspects I do not enjoy. First of all the cinnamon is so present it's actually sharp, hot, a touch unpleasant to the nose. Just like some cinnamon whiskeys are really burning hot - this feels similar. It's not hot enough to be unwearable, but it is, sort of, unpolished. The Cypriol oil brings dryness to the overall full and sweet composition - which is good, it balances it a bit. The orange and other citrus bring some acidity instead of zesty freshness which, IMHO, doesn't fit the fragrance and the rose makes it feel a bit cherry-like, which is oh, so overdone in tobacco fragrances. But it is a great tobacco perfume, it's just not perfect to me. Had it not been THAT much cinnamon here (especially how sharp and harsh it feels in the opening) I would have bought a bottle. Can't understand where the name comes from though.

A first impression: such a nice fragrance, especially in the opening, if u like sweet pipe tobacco type of scents. In the same family with Ambre Nuit, Tobacco Vanillie, even L'homme ideal (more the edt or intense than edp) from Guerlain if you add tobacco, Vanilla Flash, a less hars vs of Red Yobacco and so on... *Update: The initial enthusiasm has subsided. Unfortunately, for those who have tested/owned many perfumes, especially those of the type already mentioned, this one seems a bit redundant. The performances aren't great either. It's a good composition, the problem is that it doesn't make me want to buy it(if you already have one ore more from those already mentioned), it feels like it's missing something. I want somenthing more and i'm going to wait and test for other niche/indie fragrances/samples and after that maybe i'll reconsider to buy it. On a scale from 1 to 10, based on 2 official samples, i'll give it an 7.75.

The best way to sum up Sundowner on my skin is: "Ambergris Oatmeal Raisin Cookie". Like his PHI, Andy once again manages to skate the line between gourmand & not at all here, at the same time. This aspect keeps it interesting & you can't stop sniffing yourself! Sundowner takes me back to that first wear of PHI... Truly fantastic & a real treat. Liking one Tauer doesn't mean you'll like them all, but he certainly does "his thing" well. This is no exception. I put this up there with LADDM/AuCouer & PHI... Andy's Top 3, IMO. If this sounds good to you & you love ambergris, or want a scent that features & uses it really well... Sundowner is a huge winner & a stunner in my book. Blind-buy safe if you know what you're doing. ;) Also worth noting: I typically can't stand cypriol... Really masterful use right here! I think there are going to be a LOT of "Andy's done it again!" vibes on this one... Because... He has!

Really beautiful cinnamon and tobacco. I like it. I had high hopes for it and it delivered. I will add it to my want list as I am a big fan of tobacco scents. However, this will not push past Empiryan and Babieca on my list of priorities. It had great projection for the 1st hour. Then it seemed to die down into a skin scent. Lasted just under 6 hours in total. Longer on clothes, of course. Most of that a skin scent. Time spent inside doing desj work. So nothing that should have accelerated the timine. With that initial blast, I had expectations of great performance. Alas, it wasn't meant to be. I only have a sample and will obviously wear it more. It my experience changes, I will add updates. If you like tobacco and Tauer, this will be right up your alley. However, there are others that are better and more cost efficient. I will continue to rock Red Tobacco Intense for now until I get Empiryan and Babieca.

It took me two whole years to fall in love with this fragrance, but here I am. I was bartending when I first wore the sample, and my nearest olfactory reference points come from those days. The orange note here is measured, a bit spicy/herbal, and well-integrated - reminds me much like the kind of orange you'd find in Grand Marnier or the spiced fruitiness of mulled wine. But the fragrance is cinnamon and tobacco (Black and Milds, in particular) through and through, with amber/tonka/vanilla sweetness in the base and just a little powdery/creamy from the sandalwood. Though certainly a sweet fragrance, the drier aspects of the cinnamon, tobacco, and cacao prevent it from becoming cloying. It's playful and doesn't take itself seriously. Wear this to industry night when the weather starts to cool down.

Exactly as described. This reminds me of sunset on the Mayan reviera. Warm, sandy, and a very dry tobacco. The tobacco note reminds me a bit of the tobacco note in fan your flames, but very dry. And without the tropical notes that nishane’s brought to the table. And the Tauer DNA is definitely present but in the background. Also, I don’t get any sweetness from this at all, despite many others picking it up. Really beautiful. Not a challenging tobacco fragrance, by any means, but very dry. It sits somewhere between fan your flames and masque Milano’s Montecristo to my nose. I prefer this to most of my other tobacco scents (Herod, journey man, fan your flames, Une nuit a Doha, atman Xaman, Montecristo, Tom ford TV), but it doesn’t hold a candle to xerjoff’s Naxos or Luxor.

Sundowner from Andy Tauer perfectly resembles a cold sunset in a oriental region. In fact, the tobacco note is very warming and inviting and blends very well with the other notes of this perfume. I mainly get cinnamon and tobacco with hints of vanille, sandalwood and cacao, with the sandalwood becoming more prominent as it dries down. That being said, i think Sundowner is a very masculine fragrance, but needs to fit the situation you wear it. This is definitely not an office scent, instead a cozy evening during an European fall/winter would be a more approriate wear. Sundowner projects heavily for the first 3h and longevity is surely above average! Only safe for blind buy if you like tobacco and cinnamon. In three words..."dry, tobacco, sandalwood".

I really enjoy this fragrance and it's my favorite from the Tauer house. It has Andy Tauer's signature style, starting off slightly harshly in the opening, similar to some Tauer perfumes. The scent is warm and spicy, but in a different way. It's a unique fragrance, with cinnamon, cacao, and vanilla notes that could lead you to expect a gourmand or tobacco scent. However, it's not entirely gourmand, tobacco, or amber, but rather a bold blend of all three. I initially tried it on a paper blotter, but I only truly appreciated the mastery behind it after wearing it for a few days. The fragrance is well-blended, with a lovely rough texture and warm character, like a textured, warm-colored knitted sweater. I absolutely adore it. 10/10

I was convinced that after my struggle with the opening—a mix of gourmand, animalic and tobacco notes— that this would be a dislike. Tobacco is often a difficult note for me. But the dry down is where I got comfortable wearing my most uncomfortable note, and 24 hrs later I can still smell Sundowner. The sharp edges are softened with vanilla, and the scent is wearable, calming and warm. My skin sucks up perfume, so I’m not sure why others are getting poor performance. Other Andy Tauer fragrances I’ve tried are also good or even great long haulers. Sundowner is a classic Tauer fragrance. I don’t like the opening, but I’m glad I stuck with it and discovered a tobacco fragrance that works for a woman. Kind of a rarity in my world.

its a real spicy perfume. i love andy taur perfumes but this one remember me one of my best old perfumes(spice bomb from victor & rolf ) . because i smell chery in this perfume in middle note extacly like spice bomb and bvlgari man in black. if u want something spicy with chery accord for winter this can be the best perfume to wear. some body told me its like arabian perfumes but i have to say its so far from arabs accrords and notes and its the diffrent between this perfume house and other brands. its 50 ml bottle. the box have a nice design and be sure if u love perfume any way u will like it so much. at the end the woody notes will apear and u will enjoy it perfume rating: 8/10 sillage: 7/10 longevity: 8/10

I love it. I love it so much I said " Dear God" upon first sniff. This is the most Middle Eastern fragrance I've smelled by Tauer. I spent 28 on a decant. I wish I'd just put that towards a blind buy bottle but the last blind buy I got from him was a big regret. Sticky spicy chewing tobacco from my grandfathers foil pack plus sharp orange and hot cinnamon. I thought I smelled oud but it's not listed so I guess it was Cypriol. Despite this scent being my favorite yet from his line it was the first to vanish within a few hours. Not worth the price for me right now. I'll spoil myself with it at some point. Winter scent for sure.

Potent, sweetness from amber and vanilla is quite prominent, and the citrus notes sing along. Smokiness from tobacco and the cinnamon work perfectly as undertone. This is a perfect bottle for the summer heat, under the beach or by the pool, but also on cold winter days to feel the warmth this perfume brings. I did not think this would replace ACDD as my favourite from the house but it gradually grew on me, and eventually did. Sundowner is such a wearable perfume, perhaps more suited for casual occasions, and it stands out. I have received not just one, but quite a few compliments, even from strangers.

Yay! Can’t wait for my bottle :3 will edit a review when it comes in It’s finally arrived and I’m diving in!! Okay this is very good! I’m immediately reminded of a few things, Tauer Attar, Tauer’s L’Oudh (nagarmotha), and Tauerville’s Vanilla Flash. It’s lovely, opening with a mineral aspect shaking hands with a warm tobacco. Nothing is screaming notice me though, it’s all very well blended. One of the most striking impressions I got from the opening is that of fresh water. I’ll add more as the wear opens up and the mids and base become more noticeable.

To my nose, this comes across as a dry, woody, spicy-tobacco fragrance. Its super nice, easy to wear for any reason at anytime of year. I find myself sniffing my wrists throughout the day when wearing. Its so different than most, and complex enough to hold my interest for hours. Close sniffing will cause nose blindness, which luckily will go away in a few minutes. I catch whiffs in the air for the first 3 hours if I can stop sniffing my wrists. I also own L'air du Dessert Marocain, and actually prefer Sundowner though I really love them both.

Absolutely awesome opening of dark honeyed spices. I saw another refer to it as a honeyed ACDD and I totally agree. I just wish that opening lasted longer. The drydown is less impressive. Still need to do a full wear. After a while with this one I like it more! The opening is still fairly shortlived, but I realized the next phase is actually pretty good. With 3 sprays I was still catching pleasant whiffs 8hrs later. I’m having a tough time deciding between this and Vanille Havane for an uber-niche tobacco frag. Love it!

I hate to be THIS into Tauer perfumes after sampling only four, but... Sundowner is excellent, and in his characteristic style: woody, aromatic, sharp, and bone-dry. Like the chocolate orange we always get my mom for Christmas, but mingled with oak logs sitting by the fireplace. The tobacco resembles a fresh pack of cigarettes more than cigars or smoke, lending a cozy, flannel greenness to this. Too masculine for my taste, but honestly? I could date a smoker if they smelled this good.

This is one of the best tobacco fragrances I've smelled. The opening is very harsh on my skin. I get a cat piss smell in the opening but after 5 minutes or so when it settles down and this juice is gorgeous from then on. Great longevity and sillage. I got compliments in the 1st hour in and 10 hours later. I would give this a masterpiece rating but the harsh opening prevents that but this is still 10/10 even with the opening. Well done, Andy!

This is an instant love. I’m amazed at how this evokes memories of a tropical beach at sundown. There is moisture in the midst of the waning heat, a soft humidity reminiscent of evaporating rainfall steaming up from the sand under your feet. As the sun sets, you pull out a fresh cigar, slide it under your nose, clip it, and light a cedar strip. Reminds me of the times I spent on beaches and patios in Costa Rica.

For me the fruit and flower scents are nonexistent but what a BANG. Puts me right into the African desert with the scent of animals, human sweat, and decaying earth - in a good way. Bring me the sundowner cocktail as I unwind from a day in the safari. Reminds me of SQUID. I smell it opening with ambergris moving to smoke and sandal wood as it dries down. Sort of makes we want a cognac in the library.

This is a masterpiece and by far my favourite scent. On my skin, a very citrusy opening, followed by cinnamon and a hint of chocolate, then the most realistic pipe tobacco on the dry down. It’s just beautiful. Probably not a safe blind buy for everyone, but I’d definitely recommend getting a sample. If you want a genuine pipe tobacco scent with depth and deliciousness, this is it.

I absolutely love this! Sundowner smells just like a tobacco shoppe. It smells like when you remove the lids from the various glass jars of pipe tobacco and inhale, trying to find the one that best suits you. It smells like the air when you walk into the cigar humidor room. I personally find that scent very cozy, comforting and nostalgic. Absolutely perfect for Autumn.

Reminds me of a cross between Histories de Parfums 1740 (Marquis de Sade) and PAP Bengale Rouge, leaning more towards the HdP. And I'm absolutely here for it. It's glorious and I could bathe in it. Lasts 12h+ on skin and waaaaaay more on fabric/hair and projects enough to catch attention. I also don't get anosmic to it through the day which is nice. Wonderful. Buy it.

First impression: Fu*k me, this smells good.Tobacco Oud with a leather like vibe on my skin. But this leather is the most expensive and complex smelling leather in the world. The smell of a millionaire Cowboy/Oil Barron. Love at first sniff. Scent 10/10 Performance 7.5 P. S. Got a full bottle. Not many niche frags are worth full retail. This is one of the few.

The notes are all there and blend together beautifully, but the overall impression is like you’ve accidentally dropped a maduro cigar into a glass of grand marnier. Incredible how long the orange peel sticks around. At times it evokes a chocolate orange, and it finishes on a very earthy dirt-like accord.

The opening was very reminiscent of Papillon Artisan Perfumes Bengale Rouge. This differs with more of a focus on airy, ozonic notes and a drydown that lacks the spicyness of the opening. Unlike Bengale Rouge I don't detect much sweetness. Definitely a skin scent, lower projection. I really enjoyed it.

Recently picked this up on a trade. Pleasantly surprised with it. Very gentle cinnamon and dry tobacco. Soft sweetness, just right for my preferences. Would give it an 8/10. The sillage is its only let down. Easy light winter fragrance for work. I wouldn’t necessarily purchase at full price

Rich, sexy, warm, Smokey, amber scent. A little goes a long way with this fragrance. I feel as if this leans more masculine than feminine and perfect for nighttime in the winter. I wanted to try something different and I think I like this but I’m not completely sold as of yet.

I don't know why I am reminded of Martinelli's apple juice but mixed with dusty tabacco and cinnamon. I like it :)

Tauer's take on Oajan/Ambre Narguilé/Kahltat Night/Boundless... But definitely my favourite out of those!

It feels rugged and deliberate, less polished than many modern compositions, yet deeply intentional in the way it unfolds. It reads less like a statement and more like a moment suspended in time, capturing the quiet tension that comes as daylight begins to fade. Let’s explore as the sun sinks low and see how this slow burning dusk settles once it touches skin. Opening: The opening is spicy, warm, and sweet. The primary notes I get are tobacco, cinnamon, orange peel, and rose oil, with tobacco and cinnamon leading the way. Tobacco is immediately recognizable from the first spray, coming across as dry and warm, like cured tobacco leaf left to sun dry, but with a subtle, natural sweetness woven through it. There is a faint cherry-like tone that recalls the tobacco found in Mugler’s Pure Havane, though here it feels less polished and far more rugged. Rather than smooth or syrupy, it smells like real tobacco leaf that still carries traces of its natural sugars, rough and slightly uneven around the edges. Cinnamon joins quickly, presenting itself as dry, warm, and slightly sharp, leaning firmly toward cinnamon bark rather than sweet bakery spice. It smells powdered and woody, with a faint bitterness that keeps it from feeling cozy or gourmand, delivering heat in a controlled, slow-burning way rather than anything explosive. Orange peel follows as a bright, bitter, and aromatic accent, more zest than juice, with a sharp citrus bite and very little sweetness. It adds clarity and contrast without turning the opening fresh or uplifting. Lastly, rose oil rounds everything out as dark, dry, and subtly spiced, more like petals warmed by heat than a blooming flower. It feels grounded and restrained, adding depth and texture rather than overt floral presence. Dry Down: The dry down remains sweet, warm, and spicy, but with a softer, more rounded profile. The primary notes I get are vanilla, tobacco, cinnamon, and cacao, with vanilla and tobacco becoming the dominant forces. Vanilla rises to the surface as a sweet and creamy accord that never tips into overtly gourmand territory. It feels smooth and comforting without becoming too rich or indulgent, adding softness while still respecting the dry backbone of the fragrance. Tobacco remains firmly in focus with the same warm, dry, subtly sweet character from the opening, still carrying traces of that cherry-like tone. Cinnamon continues to provide warmth, but it is noticeably toned down, no longer as sharp or fiery as it was at the start. Finally, cacao enters to round out the composition with a sweet, distinctly chocolatey presence that feels smooth and comforting rather than heavy. It smells closer to soft milk chocolate or cocoa paste, adding a gentle richness that remains balanced and restrained rather than thick or syrupy. Performance: In the first hour, projection is strong, reaching several feet without difficulty, while sillage leaves a clearly noticeable trail that never feels overwhelming. After a few hours, projection settles into a more moderate range of about 4-5 feet, and the scent trail becomes lighter, though still present. Around the seven hour mark, projection drops significantly and is noticeable only within arm’s length, with the scent trail only barely noticeable. It then settles into a skin scent not long afterward. Taken as a whole, Sundowner delivers respectable performance early on, but it softens more quickly than expected and ultimately wears closer to the skin in the later stages. When to Wear: Sundowner is best suited for fall and winter, where its warmth and sweetness feel most natural, and it shines most in the evening. Its rich tobacco and spice profile makes it an excellent choice for date nights or intimate special occasions, where its depth and mood can be appreciated up close. There is also a composed, slightly formal quality to the way it wears that allows it to work in dressed-up settings, particularly in cooler weather. That same depth, however, limits its versatility. It does not feel casual or easygoing enough for everyday wear, and it would be too rich and enveloping for office environments. Sundowner works best when worn with intention, in moments that call for warmth, atmosphere, and a more contemplative presence. Blind Buy: Sundowner is not a safe blind buy. The price alone makes it a commitment that is hard to justify without testing, but the scent profile itself adds another layer of risk. The combination of dry tobacco and cinnamon can come across as slightly astringent in the opening, and that sharpness will be an immediate turnoff for some, especially those expecting a smoother or more plush tobacco. While the fragrance settles into a warmer, sweeter direction later on, the overall arc and performance may not align with everyone’s expectations at this price point. If you already enjoy tobacco-forward scents and are comfortable with spice that leans dry rather than cozy, this could be worth exploring, but sampling first is strongly recommended to make sure both the style and the wear suit you. Final Verdict: Sundowner sits comfortably within my usual wheelhouse of warm, sweet tobacco fragrances, and for much of the wear it delivers exactly what I enjoy. The opening is engaging and characterful, pairing rugged tobacco with dry spice and restrained sweetness in a way that feels thoughtful rather than flashy, often bringing to mind other tobacco scents I admire, particularly Pure Havane, but with a more natural, niche, and rough around the edges presentation that gives it its own identity. Where Sundowner ultimately loses momentum for me is in the later stages of the wear. While it opens with enough presence and structure to feel promising, it begins to thin out and lose cohesion sooner than expected, with the dry down settling more quietly than I would like for a fragrance of this style and price point. That softer finish, combined with some overlap with bottles I already own, makes it difficult to justify a full bottle purchase at this time. Still, it remains a well composed and atmospheric take on tobacco, and one I genuinely enjoyed spending time with, even if it ultimately falls just short of earning a permanent place in my collection. Edit: In the original below I was super critical about the perfume. After using it today I find I was a bit harsh. This perfume is about a distinct journey of evolution. It has many facets during its drydown and I recognise that as being very well done and special. However despite this I’m still not sure that as a tobacco scent that it qualifies as being one of the top offerings available - none the less it is worthy of at least a long term sample. And it actually lasts along time. Original: Super fruity medicinal opening almost immediately settles to a tart medicinal orange slightly honeyed with a not too rich damp pipe tobacco. There’s oiled cinnamon bark backing it, giving an almost oudh like feel. After half an hour the harsh opening softens and the warming sandalwood and vanillic base start establishing and help round it off into something closer to traditional pipe tobacco, slightly raisiny. Somewhat reminiscent of Red Tobacco and TF TO. What is nice is there is an oiliness that is not found in most traditional tobacco scents. Also a few hours in there is a slight sharp orange peel waft that almost feels separate indeed like someone has bent and rubbed a quarter of orange peel on your shirt - then this occasionally flits to a creamy orange but it’s very subtle and maybe back again - Interesting - this is where the marketing and name come in - yes - I Geddit - hats off in that respect but at the end of the day it’s a hard sell as very few would appreciate the subtlety - even me - when there are plenty of ‘somewhat’ similar to reach for. In fact I don’t justify keeping the bottle - I’m not a big enough Tauer fan to wear this for it’s subtle difference when others perform better. This will find it hard to compete against the established players but die hard Tauer fans (I was one until some of his recent releases) will no doubt be happy. But that’s probably the point - I don’t think Andy is about mass market - he is about artistry. So what I am saying is - Andy you won my respect back as a perfumer but it’s by no means ground breaking but that’s hard to do when you’ve done so much.

Andy Tauer seems to be one of the only perfumers out there who actually delivers what he promises as directly as possible. Essentially a grandiose, massive, tobacco accord, making you almost realize that the note of tobacco in perfumery is much more than the scent of dried tobacco leaves, similar to how the scent of amber is practically the abstractions of an artistic mind. If you want photorealism, this is however not the right option for you, this is more of a 'what would tobacco smell like... in heaven?' type of scent. So immediately a bright 'open' citrus, strong and sweet, peachy almost, slightly floral, but with a distinct dirty nuance a lot of people have pointed out as well, an intentional spicy dissonance, which imo serves to remind you of where this fragrance is going, which is an oddly chocolatey juicy fruity floral slightly skanky tobacco heart. I think it is the result of the ridiculously potent, almost 'burning' cinnamon note you see in a lot of Tauer offerings. 30 mins and you enter the second phase, the peach cobbler made out of an overripe rosy peach, boozy almost, honeyed, quite floral too, but always underlined by an animalic woody tobacco. To my nose this is the nicest phase and last about 2-3 hours. After than comes the massive tobacco base, unfiltered, high grade pipe tobacco, slightly tart and cherry-like, slightly vanillic, slightly raunchy but not unbearably so. Just a beaming sweet tobacco beacon that last practically until the next morning. Extremely complex, intense, massive and all-encompassing. Perhaps the ultimate tobacco accord. However it is for me the hardest category of fragrance to wear. If you were to wear it in a restaurant you would probably make the flavor of the food intelligible, half the room being able to smell you, as if you were holding a massive artwork in front of their faces. I think it is best reserved for Summer evenings, on a terrace, with a drink in hand, letting the cool air form a hazy cloud around you. I am going for a 5ml personally and I am confident it will last be an entire lifetime.

Its not difficult to describe Sundowner because its simple compared to what Andy released before! The simplest description will be its a Red tobacco by Mancera but Sundowner has a very strong orange note. In more words, Sundowner to me smells like red tobacco but with three notes added, the 1st note is the orange this one it penetrate the whole composition and it last a very long time through the drydown, to me its not a top note but a base note. The second note is the rose, its very little but you can smell the sweetness of the rose. And the third note is the cyproil, it smells like oud mixed with diluted patchouli here in Sundowner its smells like a mid note and it last only 1-2 hours. Sundowner is still different from Red tobacco, and I will say they are different by %30 to%35 and I mention it here just to simplify and give y'all idea how it smells like. The performance is good and it has a great depth, it last 6-7 hours on the skin and it project softly for about one hour. Rating 8/10 I'm not a fan of orange mixed with tobacco and chocolate.

I tried this side by side (left wrist right wrist) with Au Coeur du Désert. Has similar base notes to ACdD but sundowner has a ton of cinnamon. It is like I got a tin of cinnamon altoids and crushed them in a mortar and pestle. It soon settles down and some leather comes through but mostly cinnamon overwhelms. I like both ACdD and sundowner, but they are so both intense and 'different' that it would be distracting to wear. It is like having an accessory that does not fit. Take for example one of these bowties that are made out of a bird's feather. Yeah, it's cool/unusual by itself but it puts my ensemble out of balance...people would zero in on it instead of it complemented the outfit as a whole and it would look like I was more interested in building my combinations around the feather bowtie and making it obvious I was featuring it. No thank you. ACdD and sundowner would be same, it would overwhelm my ensemble and draw too much attention instead of complimenting it.

After a couple of misses imho this is a good release by Tauer that’s well worth owning. Opens with enough orange and cinnamon to remind me of Christmas spices but shortly after a lot of tobacco comes through and it’s really nice. As it dries you start to feel more of the tonka and it feels like a bit of a boozy spicy fragrance, like it has body, with some cherry and chocolate tones meeting the spiced orange from the opening. I hadn’t looked at the ingredients for a sundowner drink before smelling this and I see its mainly cognac and grand marnier. Knowing that, I think it’s pretty well named, as when I smell this I can match the imagery of that in my mind with the fragrance I’m taking in quite easily. Edit: Read Dune recently aswell as watching the new film version. This is the fragrance I think of after reading the description of the Spice Melange.

Yes, this one is quite Tauer-esqe. The opening is quite heavenly with that warm boozy tobacco which imo is the best aspect of the fragrance. It quickly dries down into something resembling Aramis Calligraphy Rose dipped in honey tobacco. Nothing wrong with that, but if it'd only held on to that opening for longer and projected a bit more (seems to sit pretty close to the skin) I'd be all over it. If you enjoy this one, I recommend layering Rose Flash and Vanilla Flash. It's not the same as this scent but lands in the same ballpark. The syrupy sweetness from RF is brought down a notch by the vanilla and tobacco in VF leading to a sensual experience. Great bang for your $ too with an above average performance!

Unfortunately started with a rather off-putting animalic note that seemed dirty in an execretory way. Is there cumin in this? Cumin often comes across to me as postcoital unwashed nether regions. Thankfully, it disappeared within a couple minutes and quickly turned fruity and spicy, with a leathery base. Like cinnamon-spiced hot hard apple cider with orange zest in a new leather coat. Real, complex, floral cinnamon—not the hot single note of cassia. Very gourmand. It kind of feels like the après-ski version of Kilian’s On the Rocks. Very pleasant after the initial offense. I never detected any chocolate, and it took a good 5 hours before I was able to pick out a dry tobacco note by inhaling very deeply.

I'm torn about this scent. I like it, but I'm not sold. The tobacco in this scent reminds me of John Varvatos Platinum Edition. It has hints of that leathery smoky cypriol and something animalic along side the ambergris. It reminds me of sitting on a beach after being sweaty from walking in the hot sun and smoking a cigarette watching the sun go down. I get the artistic vision. Outside of those notes it smells to similar to LDDM and ACDD in the background. While I appreciate those fragrances I would not like to be reminded of them frequently in different renditions. Aside from that the smell is fantastic and I will continue wearing this in hopes I will have a better outlook.

As a healthcare worker, when I think of a word "Sundowner" and what one might smell like, cocoa and cinnamon are not on the list. Every nurse and pct knows that real sundowners smell like UTI and apple sauce. So... to me, the name is very unfortunate. The opening is extremely medicinal. I swear there is camphor here. And then it becomes very cinnamony with citrus and a hint of rose and tobacco, while still maintaining an early 20th century pharmacy vibe. This is very true to Tauer's style - bone dry, expertly done roses, spicy, long lasting, potent, challenging. Beautiful, unique scent. Can't see myself wearing it though.

This garnered me compliments literally within an hour of applying it, and it's beautifully blended (like all fragrances from Andy Tauer). It's not the most original of his fragrances (at least to my nose), because it's mostly a standard resiny tobacco-vanilla-cacao accord; but what does make it stand out is that it's mixed with some Middle Eastern elements like cypriol oil which makes this more than just yet another Chergui. This is for the cold months, when the sun goes down early (which I suppose provides the name). It's very nice, but a little too pricey to my mind for what you're getting.

As @ooosmoov reviewed below, this is a right balance between gourmand and not so gourmand. Its a nice tobacco blend with cocoa, and a little hint of cinnamon, which gives it that 'phi' dna. It has some middle eastern vibes, but not too much. Yes, its another tobacco centred fragrance, but there is something there to make it different from another in the same category. Although its not as good as his lair du desert macocain (actually i dont know what else can be as phenomenal as the lddm), but as far as i have tried, its one of the best from tauer.
