Oud Noir

Nice box and bottle presentation. Feels premium designer. In the same vicinity of scent profile as TF Tuscan Leather - yes but different in that Oud Noir has an added church incense and Praline accord that gives it it's identity. I had to pump the sprayer a few times as the first couple were overpowered by a pungent burnt incense note in the top. This might have been sat in the atomiser and stalk for a while since manufacture but that first taste reminded of Tom Ford Noir Anthracite with it's dark, smoky, blunt 'coal' accord that I also 'appreciate' but find challenging to wear. Anyway, atomiser now fully commissioned I get a flash of Incense and Plum straight off the top. A few minutes in the Plum subsides and erm....now.....ahem.... I am reminded of.....ahem.....Tom Ford Tuscan Leather. :o) There is still that punchy Birch note that stands front and centre (and I'm not sure it might be smoother without it altogether tbh) but at the same time I can catch hints of warmer notes (Leather/Sandalwood/Amber?) plus some almost sweet-creamy notes (Praline/Jasmine/Cinnamon/Vanilla?) fighting to get out from behind the burnt incense but not quite succeeding. After 2-3 hours the dry down is pretty much all moderately sharp, austere, Birch and Incense with a hint of Leather. Alas the warm woody notes and sweet Plum, Praline, Amber and Vanilla have all disappeared from my skin. My gut feeling is to leave this one in a dark cupboard to macerate for a few months and see if it develops toward a more palatable scent and let that boisterous Birch mature a little. I do love dark scent profiles and I'm glad that I bought this one. It's great value for money but right now this is not really wearable except for my own personal appreciation at home. Definitely 'talented' but not yet 'accomplished', as it were. Let's see how it goes. Opinion 'paused' for now.....

Smoky opening but dries down similar to Suede et Safran, if not actually identically at some point. A more gentle and sweet version of both would be Padre by MALO (by Martin Lorentzon, co-founder of Spotify). Do people get a little shocked by scents like this? We can't all smell like a vanilla candle please. I tried Nishane Suede et Safran again and this came to mind for comparison. There are similarities again and both are really great. But this beats the competition. It's richer and more complex and interesting. Certainly a first class perfume. It could have been more expensive for the actual smell, which is not synthetic at all. I bought the stock somewhere at 25 dollars a piece on a sale. 10 bottles at less than one Suede et Safran of the same amount, even though Suede lasts forever I must admit. This is off the market now which makes it even greater. Just the bottle looks like something exclusive from a long time ago, and maybe it's too expensive or items are no longer available to make this today. Same with Oud Blanc by the way, and I think both can be worn at the same time. Both are legacy perfumes that have been copied, and this came in the year before Suede et Safran. Interesting to wear this with Suede et Safran, Guerlain Vetiver EDT and Encre Noir at the same time.

There’re difficult reviews, which need more time than others... This took until the cold came again and I pressed the spray; I ordered another backup bottle right now and started this text. Well.... the smell: Smoked and dry leather, burned on a dark and dense wood. It may not sound like a desirable fragrance - and I get it -, but I find it fascinating. ... Add soft notes of bitter coffee and cocoa with a subtle plum hidden between saffron and incense: Voilà! That’s it. It’s clear that it isn’t a perfume for everyone. Okay. But It's mysterious, it has style... And it’s also different and daring. TL Oud Noir is perfect to wear with a black leather jacket, and seriously: This fragrance makes many famous leather perfumes smell like children's lollipops. For the cold: Solid projection & duration, a winner without qualms; not for fearful hearts, this is a rebel perfume. The quality is the best of designer and right now it’s available at a ridiculous price (...). This one and Oud Blanc are the most exclusive releases from Ted Lapidus, so it’s a special aroma, yes... but it ends up becoming very addictive. So wear it at your own risk. Or not... Who cares? I already have my backup bottle, so about your relationship with this perfume: “Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn".

Initial Impression short review Very dark, smokey, and dry. Don't be fooled by the sweet notes of vanilla, praline, etc., I feel there is just barely enough of those notes to not be offensively bitter and acrid. This is slightly bitter and acrid, but in a good 'sat close to a bonfire' way. The beginning brings a very rubbery oud, which gives way to the main smokeyness- perhaps they are going for burning/burnt oud feel? Maybe someone more familar with that could tell me if that's accurate, but I really enjoy it anyhow. In comparison, I had bought Amouage Interlude for the smokeyness, but it was too sweet, so I sold it. I am not saying they smell anything alike, but I much prefer this dry smokiness to the overly sweet oppoponax of Interlude. Performance also is nowhere near the Amouage, obviously, but decent for the $30-ish that I paid. Edit: Still really like this one, a bit of sweetness finally comes out to play after quite a while. I sprayed this on my chest around 8pm and when I woke up around 5am, I could smell a slight sweetness with some smoke to it on my shirt, like a smoked plum.. Great stuff. Might get a backup bottle, which I have only done once.

Wow, Oud Noir is a great one, very different. It is smokey-sweet but not overpowering, it is your favorite leather jacket which has absorbed years of different aromas and fragrances and smells so good when you put it on. It is really warm and comforting, like sipping brandy in front of a mellow fire, in a candle lit cabin in the Scandinavian forest. It is good, trust me. To me it opens with a smooth smokey accord which is much more like church incense rather than sausages over the campfire as some others have said. After about 5 minutes the sweetness of the plum, praline etc. start to show up and play equally in the composition, and last together till the end. for a comparison, to my nose this smells very much like a slightly smoother La Yuqawam without the sharp opening I get from that otherwise wonderful fragrance. Oud Noir and La Yuqawam could probably be layered together with dramatic effect. I have gotten several compliments on Oud Noir, and it is very rare here in the US so you will not smell like everyone else. I highly recommend it, just get it while you can...

TL creates some extraordinary perfumes for the price they ask from discounters. Oud Noir is no exception. The second Oud-focused blind buy fragrance I got this year, and the second one that doesn’t disappoint. The Oud here leans more towards the Western style; it’s not nearly as untamed as the one in Oriental oud creations (think horse manure etc). However, we also have some dried fruits and leather, which, combined with the Oud note, create a sensual blend that’s hardly sweet. And the price was absolutely ridiculous: EUR 25 for 100 ml, from a 2014 batch. Excellent longevity, with an extremely strong projection in the first 2 hours. A refined, elegant, dark fragrance. Somehow, it reminded me of the Tom Ford area (Ombre Leather, Tuscan Leather). Excellent.

What a wonderful scent! This perfume is everything that you expect considering the list of notes. Although i do not detect the coffee and the praline, maybe its my skin, all the other notes are present. For me its a masculine perfume , dark and woody, but if a woman can layer it, it can be worn easily from women too. No sweetness but It has depth, it has character, and i can smell it around me 12 hours, or ever more(!)... It is an "original" one, if i can use that expression, that no-one else will wear around you. Did i mention the lasting power? !!! When every fragrance now days seems alike its great to find perfumes with so good quality.! Of course it is my personal opinion as every opinion written here. So, trust the notes..

At first spritz...I got heavy "spicy"....then within minutes...IMHO...I got Amouage Interlude Man/Woman vibes. I really am not getting TF Tuscan Leather..??...but there IS leathery note in this. In the dry down..it loses it's major "Interlude" moments....and sort of becomes "it's own thing"....if that makes sense..??... I guess... I get "wisps" of Guerlain Santal Royal vibes in the middle phase as well. And...I do own and enjoy Exuma Oud Noir Man...and yeah...same "family"....with Oud Noir Man being..."lighter"...IMO. Cut to the chase....TL Oud Noir is a hidden gem...I find it pretty good quality and performance so far. A surprise/blind buy LOVE.

Real surprise this one. Opens very Bogart oud edition for 1 minute Then completely change to a butiful smoky plum. The plum note is very juicy and delicious And the birch give it depth and control the sweetness so it won't be to sweet. Performance is good but the scent is smooth very very smooth so its not offensive at all. Its on me now for 5 hours after a ride on the scooter for 30 minutes and its 30 degree celcius and I get wonderful whiffs of it so i guess at fall or winter it will be superb. Long lasting and high high quality. Enjoy

Ted Lapidus Oud Noir Oud Noir enters the room as a refined oud wearing a leather jacket, carrying a bouquet of saffron and a cup of coffe. ON adds some cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla to the coffe. A few hours in ON adds a boozy shot to the coffe and enjoys a leisurly afternoon on a wooden bench. ON is a very good and well balanced oud that is unisex, but leans a bit to the masculine side. I get moderate projection but good longevity on my skin. If you like oud, you should try this one. If you don't like oud you should try this one.

It's got a nice density to it the oud is very well blended with leather and spices, touches TF Tuscan Leather, but blazes its own trail. Perfect for winter day and night, combine it with a nice leather jacket and your off and running! **update** If I were to have to relate this scent, I'd have to say its between TFTL and Amouge IM......the incense is very prominent.

Update- Still smitten with this, my favorite frag I have smelled as I love the smokey plum-ness of it. Unfortunately it doesnt last on skin more than a couple hours. Yeah I can still smell it on my clothes, but was hoping for better performance. Anyone with any smokey plum suggestions? Also really like the coffee in it...

A smooth, fruity oud with leather. Longevity and silage good. Like Bogart Oud Edition but smoother and fruitier. I'm surpised that Rose is not listed above in this. Lovely packaging. A dark classy perfume and, in my opinion, it's a more male fragrance and a really nice one.

I have loads of bottles of this one. Seems the smoke gets more balanced after some time in the bottle and then it's the best perfume I have. Absolutely stunning.

Rich, long lasting and full of character! Fantastic release from Ted Lapidus that should be more well known and appreciated.

This was exactly what I was looking for when trying to find an unbridled smoke fragrance. However, there are a few minor issues here and there. First off, definitely not meant to be applied on skin, did not last even 10 minutes on my wrist and I'm not even exaggerating. Second, all of the fancy notes you see are pretty much BS, all you get from this is the leather, smoke, maybe a touch of oud, and cucumber. No saffron, coffee, plum, cinnamon, etc. Maybe it's there but it's overshadowed by the cucumber smell, not sure what that's about but I know I smell cucumber. Don't take this wrong, I'm not hating on this fragrance, I think it's wonderful, it lasts a nice time on my denim vest, and it's exactly the punch of pure smoke that I wanted, since I don't have an excuse to infuse it with bonfire smoke. I just think too much is promised for what you get. Overall, very solid, price is great. However, I've noticed that I don't really reach for it, even though it's what I wanted from a smoke fragrance.

Do you have bottles that you don't actually use, but every time you sniff them, you just can't let them go? When I'm craving a touch of atmosphere for my leather jacket, this is not my choice. This is one of my blindly bought when I was looking for good leather. And I don't like Tuscan Leather, not at all. I find it kind of sickeningly sweet. This has the same leather, but the smokiness of this one, smell of burning birch wood, combined with saffron and jasmine, rises above that unctuous jammyness and makes this perhaps the most unique scent in my entire collection. It's just not me.. but I still appreciate this scent so much, that it stays on my shelf. One night I grabbed this, but after four hours of that smoke bombardment, I had to throw my clothes in the wash. Still, sometimes I sniff this and wonder why hasn't this gotten more attention here? If I were a leather lover, this is what I would look for as a backup bottle, definitely.

I tested this for the third time today... I like it more... The leather here is more like suede... very natural suede smell, little oud barley can detect it but more smoke, it's very smokey in a classy balanced way ... I don't get any fruits or sweetness. The combination is common (suede, oud and the sandalwood in the background)... I would categorize it in between Tuscan leather & oud wood + smokey twist ... very nice warm, sexy and heavy fragrance... it feels like having sex somewhere outdoors while it's snowing 🌛🌠❄🌨 8/10

Its a beautiful fragrance. But it is just that, very noir. Agrarwood is already dark enough.Make it anymore rich and it will make you feel sick.Their are different types of agarwood also, this smells smiler to the Indonesian kind of agarwood. Very rich and smoky. So as a perfumer myself I would back off from that. Some might like it but most won't. Yeah it reminds me to much of Indonesian Agarwood. Never use Jasmine with Agarwood either, always use Nicotiana attenuata. But I like it.

At my designer stage, i thought that was something cheap and horrible, it smells mostly like smoked plums, leather and oud i get hardly.Praline though, in colder weather, something like -5 c° gives a bit more smooth and sweetnes. Now when i in cheap niche period, or something like that, it seems like very artistic and great one. Especially for price. Would not pull compliments. If think in terms of uniqness and artisticness 8.3/10 If consider it for mass appealing and designer 6.7/10

I can only say that I completely agree with the previous reviewer. I hope that maceration raises more jasmine(with nutmeg it reminiscent of milky tuberose too)/amber/plum over burnt or even burning birch. Quality scent. I like strong performances, but only time will tell if this is even too much for me. Anyway, I already like this more than Tuscan Leather, whose sweet raspberry is too much for me. The leather presentation here is very similar, I think.

Pretty solid, but feels like it's a more subtle performer than I anticipated. I'm getting some of what I pick up from Amouage Interlude and Tom Ford Ombre Leather, with some dry smokiness. I'd have really loved for the plum and coffee to be more elevated and this would've turned this into a love for me. As it stands this feels like one where I'll keep a small decant for myself and sell the rest of the bottle on.

Took one look at this and thought yeah this looks pretty fuck worthy with exotic class.....Being a perfumer, switch cedar to guaiac wood, switch vanilla to copaiba, switch jasmine to tobacco blossom. Why? guiene and copaene, strengthens the OUD base. Coyote tobbacco is the king of the florals, anyone that tells you other wise is lying, Benzylacetone, nothing can resist. :)

creator must have been impressed by TF tuscan leather. but it reminds me versace oud noir too. very decent fragrance, for the price, it is nice. too much alcohol smell in the opening which is a good indicator how it lacks quality.

A New approach to oud. Sweet , strong , fruity , light gourmand . Very good mix of all notes . i like it . Not offensive and very wearable for all winter days and nights . A good blind buy . 8/10 . very good performance.

Your typical oud/leather combo with some sweetness, nothing groundbreaking, pleasant enough, you can tell it's synthetic, but for the price, it's not bad at all. Got mine from Amazon for $17.0

Instantly reminded of BROKEN THEORIES. The feel is very close, the experience is not. This is missing the magic. It's not a progressive scent story that transforms as it unfolds. OUD NOIR is nice, especially for the price. If I hadn't already discovered BROKEN THEORIES, I'd be more into this. Unisex if you're into smoke, woods, and darker, drier fragrances. Well blended. I wish it was a touch sweeter but could always layer with a simple vanilla, citrus, or this would be killer with a darker, tart, berry accord. Review of full bottle blind-buy. Very good value for the money. And the bottle is extremely nice!

Burnt coal & Tuscan Leather. Oud Noir opens with smell of burnt coal. Literally! As if you were lighting coal to burn incense or a BBQ. Too smokey, too woody, too harsh! Then it slowly starts to reveal that well-known TF Tuscan Leather scent while the burnt coal smell starts to fade. You end up eventually with a smokey Tuscan Leather smell of leather & sharp raspberry. Decent woody fragrance with a repulsive opening. This is not a good oud fragrance, by the way. In general, don't trust Fragrantica reviews when it comes to oud unless you've liked that particular reviewer's reviews before. I recommend reading the reviews of myjebo2012, Fraggie2100, & imanpower below.

Blind buy, and sadly it's not for me. I get a very harsh leather note and that's pretty much it, this fragrance smells like old leather boots. I do not regret this purchase, however, it's quite the unique aroma for the price.

I don't say this is a bad fragrance, but why anybody would want to smell like smoked sausages over campfire - is beyond my comprehension...

Given the onslaught of oud-based perfumes, this is another one in the same category. However this is not as strong and loud as a Montale but recalls the perfumery style of that house. It is fairly close to royal black by DSquared. However I feel royal black is a better perfume, this one doesn't have the same loudness or Rose. On the dry down while black leaves a very strong old note in its wake while oud noir settles down to a mild and acceptable perfume. Certainly decent quality, but I paid close to $90 for this perfume and is overpriced at that price point. I feel if you already own royal black this one would be redundant in your collection not to mention royal black is a better perfume. I really don't get the sausages part, there is some smoke. But I actively seek out challenging perfumes and preferentially wear them compared to the aquatic and metrosexual drivel that is mass produced by designer houses. So if you're someone who is not Acclimated to oud based arabian styled perfumes this might be too much to handle. I am coming from a point where I own several Montales so on the loudness scale this one is no more than a gentle Peep. Inoffensive and can be worn to the office in my opinion. Probably a bit too heavy for the dog days of summer but would perform well during wintertime. Last 8 to 12 hours. Certainly nothing new or innovative. If they could dial up the smoke and leather I would absolutely pay more attention to it.

What a under the radar gem!! This starts strong, with the smell of burning sandalwood and incense. It's like someone made a fire using sandalwood and threw some incense and leather into the fire. Very smoky, dark and leathery, but after a few minutes, it starts to sweeten a bit. I suspect cinnamon, saffron and oud to be the culprit. Everything is beautifully blended and each stage of the perfume has its shine moment. A few more minutes, as the sweetness becomes more pronounced, dried plums and fresh roasted coffee beans join. Oud Noir reminds me of Tuscan Leather, but without the raspberry or Royal Potion Black, without the rose. It's mainly dark oud, smoke and incense, but never harsh or sharp. Longevity and silage are both way above average. This is quality stuff and for the price that it's going on at the moment, I might have to get myself a backup bottle.

This is kind of difficult to find, at least in the US. As marko.refael mentions, it starts like the Bogart OMS Oud Edition. I get a lot of leather earlier than later, then discrete notes seem to combine to what smells to me like clove. It does not have much of that barnyard character, though you may get a fleeting whiff of that. The most remarkable thing about this is how well behaved it is. Despite being an EDP, an oud and a Lapidus product to boot, it lacks the room-clearing firepower of other ouds and other Lapidus products like PH. It stays reasonably close and I can see wearing it in situations where I would hesitate to wear other ouds with a louder projection. It is very pleasant to wear and if you like ouds generally, I would say it's safe as a blind buy in the $30-$45 range for the 100.

This fragrance shouldn't smell the way it does with the note breakdown above. This is all about the birch tar, leather and woods, there is hardly any sweetness, it's very dry, smokey and woody with the faintest hint of dry roasted coffee far in the background. The oud in this a slightly medicinal type but also a little balsamic bordering on benzoin without that vanillic sweetness, only carrying that trademark resinous accents that are associated with benzoin. Performance is above average in all departments and in all honesty This scent is quite linear as it doesn't change very much over the duration of its life, especially considering the all the notes listed..

I really like that charred wood/coal type note here - who would have guessed such a scent would be released with the Lapidus name on it? There is also a bit of that Tuscan Leather element, but I didn't detect much else (no plum or coffee). I used one full spray to the chest but I will likely use two or three the next time, and perhaps one to the forearm so I can smell it up close. Considering what the designer exclusives and niche scents of this type are selling for, I would say up to around $100 per 100 ml would be reasonable to pay for this one (if you aren't rich).

On me, this doesn't smell like smoked sausages at all. More like very green wood that has just been chopped. Overlaid with some smokiness perhaps. It is a very wood-like scent, but in a different way. Not easy to describe, really. I'm kind of intrigued by it and may be tempted to buy a bottle. Here in Belgium the price is quite reasonable for this good quality perfume. It is definitely more niche than mainstream. Not for everyone perhaps, but interesting and different. Worth a try!

I just read some advices before that this perfume is a safe blind buy. LIE, LIE, LIE. DO NOT BLIND BUY AS I DID. I WAS SO DISAPPOINTED. ITS NOT RESEMBLING ANY OF THE SAFFRON, JASMINE NOR PLUM NOTES. JUST A HIDEOUS LEATHER RUBBER GLOVE LACED WITH MEDICINAL CAMPHOR. MAYBE THESE COMMENTS SHOULD BE TAKEN WITH A GRAIN OF SALT GOING FORWARD BECAUSE MANY CAN BE PAID TO JUST SELL LIES!! NOW I WILL HAVE TO GIFT IT AWAY.

Well first 10 min is like you put 2 kg of plum in to a leather bag ! after 30 min for my nose its like TFTL or Rasasi La Yuqawam. Great oud for the price. long ( in this insane spring heat 28C. ) 16+ hour Sillage is really nice for the first 5 hour Not for everyone but for Leather and Oud lovers is a must have hidden gem :D omg its just 30 euro

I have to agree that this almost has a smoked ham / sausage smell a bottle would be total a wast for I would not want to be know as the man who smelled like this. I guess it may be me being a westerner I just don't like dirty oud note and can't understand why any one would find it nice smelling.

reminde me somthing from the classic vintage leather perfumes..cant say now, the nutmeg is very dominat i need to retest it i just find it today but i think that is gonna be sucess iwash my hand and its still there - so its strong one

Performance seems absolutely abysmal on me - barely there even as a skin scent after a few hours. I sprayed twice on the back of my hand, and I can't hardly smell it unless I press my nose to my hand.

smells like something you smoked or roasted in a wood fire. I cant describe if its meat or some dried steak. This is Not for me !

Dont get the pricing on this for lapidus. Its ok smelling to me but fot the price or less there are similar/better options

o.k. let me guess this is going to be only available in the middle east...like if they need another oud perfume.

And of course, it's going to cost a pound of flesh (with the corresponding blood) per bottle.
