Banane au Chocolat

Teddy the Perfumer’s “Banane au Chocolat” is a wonderful release from one of the scenes most promising niche houses. Banana au Chocolat breaks the walls of gourmand fragrance by being understatedly sweet and wholly earthy. The opening is a photo realistic blast of dark, slightly sweet cacao and mushed ripe banana that delivers on the concept of “Banane au Chocolat” immediately. I was worried the fragrance would progress linearly, but Teddy orchestrates it’s next phase perfectly. The patchouli that was harmonizing in the opening notes did a good job of creating an earthy middle ground that dark cocoa and ripe banana peels could occupy simultaneously to still create a gourmand profile. When the fragrance sits, the chocolate and banana take a backseat as the patchouli really begins to bloom into the star of the show. The chocolate retreats most of its harsh or bitter qualities and leaves a slight powdery sweetness that coats the entire fragrance. The ripe bananas contribute that next tinge of sweetness and the earthiness for the patchouli to flourish. The kind of wet, mossiness you might think of when envisioning patchouli is toned down to a minimum, distilling the scent of patchouli to its smoothest and earthiest. It’s really hard to describe just how beautifully blended this patchouli is; the slight sweetness of the other two main ingredients round out the damp earthiness of the patchouli’s edges, letting some of its more resinous facets be the foothold of the fragrance. Whats really the kicker to me, is to be reminded that this a gourmand fragrance. The fragrance is sweet, its earthy and as much as it may not seem to fit the bill, most definitely gourmand. I do think most of that label comes from a gourmand inspiration, as opposed to execution, and thats exactly what makes this occupy such a unique space in my fragrance rotation right now. The fragrance is super wearable, unisex, and has that level of longevity and sillage I love where the notes subtly wave through the air, as opposed barreling around as a wall of fragrance. A modern day masterpiece to me, but sampling first is definitely reccomended. Final Rating: 10/10

I see people calling this a clever gourmand, but I'd flip that and say, despite the notes listed, the spirit of Banane au Chocolat is that it's a clever patchouli. I don't get cake and butter (to my relief). I get something like, say, Santa Maria Novella Patchouli dipped in a chocolate magic shell, sitting next to a green underripe banana (everyone I've had smell this say they get overripe banana you'd find with banana bread, and fair enough, but I'm getting that zingy green banana, perhaps enhanced by the patchouli foundation). A classical painting of a beautiful still life, but as you examine it and look closer, you start to notice the odd elements. If you're into patchouli, try it. If you think you hate patchouli, try it and see if it breaks your brain a little.

I bought this because the story was so adorable but this is the fragrance that made me make peace with patchouli. This fragrance is rich, it's dry, it's comforting and it LASTS. I was worried I would hate the banana note, but it's just the right amount of ripe sweetness in the very opening. Once it starts to dry down it's just the most beautiful dark chocolate cake that rolled around in some very rich clean soil. I once sprayed this (2 sprays), then drove three hours with my windows down and still got a compliment at the hotel reception desk. Very unique and totally unisex.

Absolutely fantastic! It is not for those who do not like a natural banana smell, as there is a freshly mashed banana quality right off the bat. But if you like the combo of natural sweetness, earthy dark chocolate cake that is accentuated by earthy patchouli (there is a note in patchouli that sings harmoniously with dark chocolate!), this is something worth trying. It is an excellent inaugural fragrance from a new, self-taught perfumer. New, unusual, truly niche, yet it's mass-appealing. I cannot wait for more releases from Teddy!

I adore this one. I'm a huge fan of Angel Muse EDP and the OG Angel EDP. BAC is definitely a close relative to Muse EDP but it's not redundant to have both. I love the notes of patchouli, chocolate and banana and combining those three notes was a brilliant idea!! TBH, I don't smell much of the banana...if anything, it's contributing to a general sweetness. This one is a keeper. BAC is also very similar to Sorce Your Girlfriend Is A Badass (not in the Fragrantica database).

i have a sample of this and it’s so different than i thought it was gonna be. it’s not sickly sweet but it’s RICH. this is like a ripe banana that you would use to make banana bread with, and the chocolate is like a very very dark variety. it’s very earthy and dense in the best way. i would love a full bottle of this one day !!

Dense, rich banana bread with dark chocolate. Not very sweet, more so decadent. If you enjoy banana and fragrances like Angel Muse EDP then you would probably enjoy this also.

I was lucky enough to get Teddy's discovery set and I really enjoy this fragrance. Perfectly unisex, very well-balanced in a way that I think the fraghead community won't be ready for. I was worried about this one because of the patchouli, and you definitely get a lot of the patchouli, but you also genuinely pick up all of the notes. It's a lovely fragrance and Teddy is a great new addition to the perfumer community who deserves support. Haven't pulled the trigger on a full bottle but I'm definitely enjoying this sample.

This fragrance takes you on a journey. Upon first spray, it’s a dark cocoa powder scent with a hint of ripe banana, and it later introduces a prominent herbal/earthy scent. It’s a very interesting combination. After a few hours, the chocolate/banana takes a backseat and it becomes primarily an aromatic, almost minty patchouli. Very unique gourmand!

very, very patchouli with heavy traces of banana and chocolate that are quick to fade. for the brief moments I spend with them, together they become the most decadent and realistic rendition of chocolate banana bread I’ve ever smelled.

To the reviewer who said this is a clever patchouli fragrance rather than a clever gormand, I'd say you nailed it. It truly is like chocolate dipped patchouli. The patchouli becomes more earthy and woody as it settles in and the sweetness of the chocolate fades away. I'm happy to have had the opportunity to sample this, along with Teddy's other two fragrances but I'm surprised to find that this one is my least favorite, despite being the one I was most eager to sample.

I gave the 3 fragrances from this line fair try I tried them numerous times on skin and on paper but something just does not feel right to me. The idea is nice, the story is sweet. the banana and chocolate at the beginning are fun for a short time, then everything turns into this earthy patchouli that feels more like old food than a real gourmand. The chocolate is a little sharp, and the drydown becomes flat and not interesting. I was waiting for that beautiful moment when all the notes come together and make something magical, something emotional but it never happened for me. It is not a bad smell, but it feels unfinished like it was not fully ready. I don’t think this is a good blind buy. If you are curious, test it first and wear it a full day. For me, I will not wear it again.

Buy this for the dry down 🤌🏻 like omg people, you're gonna want to take a bite of yourself. The first 30 seconds are a rich, dare I say dark chocolate cake in the front with ripe banana complimenting it just right, standing side by side. The chocolate dominates a bit stronger than the banana but they are blended very well together, almost to the point where you can't tell them apart. They mix to become one. Best way to describe... this is chocolate banana, not chocolate AND banana. Make sense? Moving right along ..... Okay, now let's talk about this dry down. Damn. Where do I even begin. The sharp chocolate note dies down after about 30 to 60 seconds and evolves into this beautiful aroma of an earthy chocolate patchouli, still with faint banana complimenting it all in a subtle way. If you don't know what patchouli smells like then just imagine a slightly earthy, more powdery chocolate vibe entering the chat and giving the whole fragrance a nice little hug, but also projecting very well. This dry down is chef's kiss on the skin. Buy this for date night or a cuddle session but throw caution to the wind gents, she's liable to leave bite marks. Stay sexy.

Gimme an *F*.... (oh, relax). Gimme an *O*. Gimme an *N*. Gimme a *D*. Gimme a *U*. Gimme an *E*. What's that spell? FONDUE. What's that spell? FONDUE! What's that spell? FONDUE!! That's what *Bananae au Chocolat* tastes like....feels like....smells like.....to me. Picture a pot of ***warm chocolate*** (not too hot...not too light...not too dark) with a little sumpin' extra in there. Not cinnamon or nutmeg....maybe cardamom....probably patchouli....and a hint of a lovely vanilla. Now....put a piece (not too big) of fresh ripe banana on your fondue fork and dip it in the chocolate. Leave it in there....don't pull it out so quickly (oh, relax)....let the banana absorb the warm chocolate essence. Now....lift it slowly and put it in your mouth (oh, relax) and savor the deliciousness. You taste more chocolate than banana; chocolate always has a more commanding presence. It's chocolate, damnit and it's beautiful. If only there was a hint of cigarette smoke at the end. Ladies and gentlemen...this is *Teddy The Perfumer's brilliant *Bananae au Chocolat*.

Despite not being a gourmand nor patchouli fan, this was the scent that convinced me to pull the trigger on the discovery set. It is my favorite of the brand so far. It smells earthy but not hippie. Chocolate but not sickly sweet. Slightly powdery c great for cooler weather.

I sampled this on two separate days, and both times I received compliments while shopping in a grocery store. The second time the man that complimented me wrote down the website and scent name.

As someone who has interacted with Teddy on several occasions, I sincerely wish him all the very, very best on his venture. So happy to see his concoctions on here
