Terryfic Oud

There are perfumes in my samples that have the gift of clinging to me to assure me that their full bottle would not be too much in my collection.. and I have to stay firm not to fall into the purchase. Terryfic Oud is one of those He is sublime! A powdery rose on a background of oud...oud which after the first minutes softens and becomes the stage on which the rose waltzes and rounds off, powders itself, spices up and lights up... The rest: it's is decor to sublimate the rose and the iris: the patchouli, the spices only bring light to this main actress. From the first half hour, everything is said..the theatricality of the notes fades and forms an exquisite picture...however you are not there to admire it, you are in it!! The winter cold in a crowded street in New York or Paris, you are in front of a famous theater or a big cabaret, you seem alone and lost in your thoughts, thinking you are fighting the cold but a torpor assails you...it is then that costumed and perfumed women come out of the back room, the lethargy in which you were suddenly dissipates: The smell of make-up, of that rose perfume which floats and dances around you hypnotizes as if by magic: these beauties come and go and you don't even notice them, but the warmth that emanates from their bodies and gently caresses your face, their complicit laughter and the fragrant atmosphere hitherto confined attract you in an ecstasy and pleasure impossible to foresee. This smell, which mixes the sweet scent of skins and the intoxicating scent of spicy rose, of a decor heated by lights, takes you to an unknown place: so much the worse or so much the better, and for once it's neither a dream nor a mirage..it's just a miracle recognized as such! There is a slightly acidic/pungent almost synthetic background (and that's why the reference to the costumes/or the room)..but instead of stripping away its beauty, it adds an expressive facet, a dimension, a story. Sometimes it makes me think of leather, pepper, turpentine... the responsible oud here has a medicinal side. It's a very interesting and really beautiful fragrance...completely unisex for those who appreciate rose and the underlying oud!

Well, this was a surprise and I dare say deserves to be introduced to a wider audience. A cross between Amouage Epic and Fate for men, Terryfic Oud's opening borders on the spectacular. Whereas many offerings from this genre save the oud for the latter stages of development, here it is front and centre from the get-go, a more than generous helping combined with piquant dry-roasted cumin and a dash of pepper. It's undoubedly powerful but in a grab-your-attention rather than overbearing kind of way. Better still is the clever use of iris, acting as a boundary to allow the potent mix to pack a punch without it overplaying its hand. Short of the hour, Terryfic Oud takes on what I can only best describe as an 'acidic' tone, redolent of the slightly sour smell that you get from damp wood; this could just as easily be attributed to the unripened berries incorporated, however. If it sounds unpleasant, it's not, not even remotely, and in any case the iris, which has become more prominent by this stage, acquires a degree of creaminess to help mellow out what still reamins a strident mix of oud and cumin. By the time you reach the drydown, the fragrance becomes sweeter - but not sweet - with the appearance of amber, and adds an unexpected though welcome nutty vibe (possibly hazelnut?). Small quantities of clean patchouli and polite musk round everything off. Nothing wildly original at this stage, admittedly, but delightful all the same. Well worth seeking out.

Strong like and it seems to have nice performance but definitely it's not a beast. The only minus, the soft BO/sweaty vibe from the cumin which has equal strength with the oud note and it lives till the end. The best part is the opening, strong, on your face, beautiful. The rose is not playing big role here, fortunately for me, it's at the background. It's not the common rose/oud combo. Only at the late dry down you can feel a jammy rosy vibe with some slightly sour red berries. The scent feels totally unisex. If you can live with this light BO cumin smell, it's a very good choice but NOT for the oud lovers. This is much more than oud so if you want an oud based scent stay away from this. EDIT After 6-7 hours I also get sweet incense or to be more specific it might be opoponax. EDIT I'm very happy with this buy. Excellent longevity for my taste, about 14-16 hours before it's completely gone. At the 12 hours mark it is still detectable from a close distance.. after that becomes a skin scent.

I just re-read the review I left for this over 10 years ago, and I'd like to think that my tastes, nose and writing skills have since improved! Firstly, no oud AT ALL -- this is musky cumin with a resin or two -- there not real oud in this OBVIOUSLY, but there is also none of the token synthetic stuff, either. Okay, maybe a bit of that bandaid oud aromachemical (Oud Blend? Black Agar? Whatever it is...). Rosey berries, some resolute iris and animalic STANK -- and that's basically it. But what a masterpiece -- I didn't love it THEN (2015) but I certainly do now. I'm guessing from the lack of recent reviews (or not many of them) this is now discontinued, which, again, is tragic as I will need to ration out my stock. This is good stuff, just short of the pantheon, but really REALLY close...

I have blind bought this and I'm happy I did. Starts loud, continues strongly for 4-6 hours and than keeps you good company for anoter couple of hours. Surprisingly after 12 hours it's completly gone. Stays on clothes for a day max, which is actually perfect as some of my loud and strong perfumes linger for weeks which is often annoying, if you want to change smell and do not want to wash a garment. I agree with the notes listed and find it well balanced overall. This is my evening perfume, suitable for year round use. Maybe not for a hot summer nigh. This is confident amd sexy, adult. Elegant with an edge. Lavish. Not sure this is a safe blind buy unless you are into heavy scents, incense, oud, ambers and spices.

A well blended and quite unique scent for the colder winter days and nights. The oud is loud and annoying if you spray too much. I tried it some months ago, when it was still summer, and I was really close to give it away to someone but I am glad I just left it there and last night when I sprayed it on my neck and wrist, it was so overwhelming. The dry down is even better and more classy. A typical winter scent worth every single penny, I would say. Scent: 9/10 Longevity: 8/10 Projection: 9/10

i can't speak to all the ingredients listed here, but cumin and/or caraway is certainly in this. unquestionably. added to that, i get animalic tones. it *could* be some sort of accord struck between the oud, cumin and iris, but i definitely get some civet like stank (think oud 27 by le labo) in the mix. it smells great and works well as a whole, but lordy me, it's TOTALLY not suitable for work. especially if you're a high school teacher. nuh huh.

A cleverly crafted Amber-Oud. While cumin adds to its overall sultriness, the fruitiness of the berries also compliments the sourness of the Oud.

I got a couple of samples of this from notino. They appear to decant some of the fragrances they sell in to 2ml bottles, which is great, but not all of their fragrances are available in 2ml decants, which is not great. Infuriating actually. This isn't a "I've lived with this and I know everything about it and my opinion is better than yours" review, nor is it a "I smelled this once in the shop and since I know everything about everything, including fragrances, I'm about to write the definitive account of how it is" review either. When I spray this i get rose, which is a flower, in fragrance that means florals, evil evil florals. There are other flowers lurking around too, particularly an iris, i do not like florals, not at all. The powdery and musky aspects come in to play about 20/30 minutes in and soften the florals. At this point it becomes more well rounded, the subtle amber helps to warm and sweeten it too. It's well crafted. But... You may have noticed that I have not mentioned oud yet. That is because, as far as I can smell, the effect of the oud is so negligible that there is no point in discussing it. To call this "terryfic oud" is a bit misleading, frankly. I think this would be best suited to a lady in her mid 30s and up. The price, in my opinion, is crazy talk. Do not blind buy!

This is a beautiful and long lasting oud-amber-red berries combo. The pungent scent of oud is played against sweet amber and acidic berries and the result is well balanced. There are probably florals in it as well, though this is no ordinary oud-rose combo. The radiance is good and it is very long lasting, more than 12 hours on my skin. There is a certain sophistication to the fragrance - my only wish is that the red berries could be toned down a little bit. Unisex, but maybe leans towards masculine. Due to its pungent sweetness, it probably works best in a cooler climate and is more of an evening scent. But as most fragrances, use it when it suits you. Edit: Hmmm...I have used it over a long period of time, and it now comes across as very sweet, almost cloying. I can probably use it once in a while, in the evenings, but it feels like 'too much' to use on a regular basis.

This is quite an unusual fragrance, at least for me. At the beginning I get a strong smell of oud - with some saltiness, as others have said. I also get a nice iris and some fruity notes. After some minutes, it gets more powdery and I can smell the rose much better, while the oud gets a bit subtle. Cumin is DEFINITELY there, and I do notice the typical barnyard smell. In fact, that is precisely what makes this scent unwearable for me: I do like it, but I can't really pull it off. In the drydown I smell musk and some patchouli, not so much amber unfortunately. This is a very evocative perfume for me, I keep thinking about a specific place (I don't even know whether I have actually been there or I just dreamed of it) when I smell it.

Very luxurious and deep fragrance. Although masculine with all the wood, it has a softness to it that makes it just as suitable for women as for men. Kind of “edgy” and strong first off, but after an hour or so rounds off into a more soft scent. What no one else mentioned in this thread and that I’m curious to hear if anyone agrees with, is the kind of fresh and minty character? I notice it from application and throughout usage. Could maybe lean towards eucalyptus tree but not sure.

Beautiful perfume I find it very masculin, dense, and elegant. I imagine my old uncle wearing this. Opening is wonderful but after 20 minutes all that wonderfullness leaves but a still nice scent is there. Good value but too masculine for me

This is an odd blend of a slightly sweet doughy, iris, a tiny bit of oud, and a lot of everyones favorite sweaty ball sack note, cumin. Cumin is listed on Terry's own site, and is a major player through the entire life of the perfume. Why its not listed here is beyond me. The cumin is so front and center, that i just can't get past it. There is definitely a beautiful perfume beneath, but the cumin never goes away. "unwashed lady parts". Great. Thats not something i want to smell like. Yet i got that description from 2 different people. Excellent longevity and projection. Cheap cardboard box it comes in. Nice heavy bottle, with a heavy cap. Fyi anyone interested in this, Cumin is definitely in it. So is safron, not listed here either.

I have to agree with Sandra2. The cumin here is strong. For me, it's just too much. I despise cumin in perfume. Love it in Tex-Mex food, but not on my skin. It just comes across as rancid body odor on my skin. Minus the cumin, this smells a lot like Cuir Garamante by MDCI. The oud here, for me, is way in the background while the amber is prominently foregrounded. To my nose the amber obscures most everything else, except maybe the mega-powdery iris. I get no berries whatsoever.

I do not particularly like oud and this scent is no exception. It reminds me of Montale Black Aoud, only a little lighter and without the intensity of the roses notes. Not terryfic, but not great either. Only for oud lovers.

Terryfic Oud starts with a huge whiff of ambroxan, some cumin and a hint of oud. The ambroxan doesn't work on my skin unfortunately, it is way too strong and overpowers the rest of the notes. This one's not for me.

"The base notes ensure that the fragrance blossoms: sweet, creamy and milky sandalwood, invigorating Atlas cedar, intriguing papyrus, majestic patchouli and of course, heady Oud Wood. Cistus labdanum, castoreum, amber and musk complete this luxurious composition. A trail that the perfumer wanted to be "exceptionally rich in woody and amber notes"." Along then with a majestic rose, definitely (a sensation of) cumin and, as Marjon4 mentions, an apparent menthol-y, eucalyptus hush, it all makes for a monolith of a perfume. if people do not smell oud in this perfume, they do not smell it anywhere. yet the other poweringredients not mask, but then enhance, then enrich, then hybridize the oud note. the same we have with the second forceful aspect: that of the spicey, spikey, very berry all suffusing rose which octopuses its petals, heart and outerworldly nectar all perseveringly within and radiating out of this fantastic (terrific) and cruel (terrific) perfume. there is a sweatiness throughout the entire trail (castoreum, cumin, oud) barely toned down or ladyfied by the other more feminine notes as rose or iris. but these are whorey flowers imposing as naughty office hitchcockean Marni's doing their own thang and superimposing everything on their voracious male decentering paths. the pure rose is to be sniffed out (smoked out) by taking a long whiff (yes almost informal, sideways, buddhist) with a nostril at your pulse and inhale in one ininterrupted haul. this also works with Dusitas 'Oudh Infini', l'Artisan Parfumeur's 'Al Oudh', Ex Idolo's 'Thirty Three', le Labo 'Oud 27' and Frederic Malle. Dominique Ropions 'al Waad. Promise': you are suddenly bewitched within this pure heavenly rose elixir temporally liberated from whatever it is it is coating it. Bulgarian and Turkish rose essences enhance a very physical response of sheer delight. the Montales almost always establish this at start to finish.

I also suspected a heavy dose of lavender personally, and ambroxan as mentioned below. The opening is INTENSELY aromatic with a dry woody, almost saltiness overall (lots of ambroxan for sure!). After an hour and a half I get loads of bodily cumin which I adore, but unfortunately the almost 'scratchy' ambroxan kept me from pulling the trigger on a fb. That cumin woody mix is so tempting but it takes too long to settle down!

I really don’t realize why some people rate this fragrance as medium-level. I just bought it yesterday. I puffed 6 sprays on my skin and on my shirt. (as you may know, cotton is on of the best material so as to wear fragrance since plastic garments kill the longevity of fragrance unless the fragrance is great) I was wearing a plastic-made shirt. It’s 12 pm right now and I sprayed at 8 p.m yesterday, which means more than 12 hours of mind-blowing longevity. Believe it or not, all my bedroom is totally full of this scent. What I mean is the sillage is completely satisfying (personally, I reckon more than satisfying). Last night I went to visit some of my friends without mentioning the scent I was wearing. Actually, I received a huge amount of compliments on the spot I got there. Everybody was talking about it. I, in fact, am able to smell it right now after 16 hours very easily. Therefore, I really don’t understand some of the ratings here. I really admire this scent. I think it’s fair to comment about a kind of product without bias. General Score: 10/10 Uniqueness: 9/10 Longevity: 10/10 Projection: 10/10

Beautiful fragance, I'd say it is more femme than pour homme, but I can say is a very sensous, fine classy modern fragance, the sensation it projects is a person with well define personality, charming, elegant and self confident. The Oud in this fragance is delicious, I can smell many roses, wonderful roses, patchouli, some kind of talc that you can detect in vintage Chanel N5. I think this scent is do well blended, could be appreciated even by the super sweet perfume lovers or soft scents lovers. During the day spray soft because it has power. It last long on me.

A lovely blend of Cumin, Oud, Iris and Patchouli notes! This is one frag every oud "connoisseur" should have, tho' I must confess it's not ground-breaking release. Curiously, somewhere in the drydown, it's redolent of Amouage Fate Man! My subsequent research showed both fragrances (Fate Man and Terryfic Oud EDP Intense) share 7 notes together! Being an oud fan, Ive wanted to try this for eons. Finally bought a decant for a reasonable price. Starts out with a loud oud note, really dirty and rubbery which didn't bother me a bit. After 10 mins it softened down and got little spicy and slightly flowery. 30 mins later it was gone. Such a let down. So glad I didn't spurge on a full bottle of this, this is definitely a pass.

I've received a sample today. It's deep and dark, definitive a masculine fragrance more than a feminine. Cumin is not listed here, but it's definitely there as a strong spice.

sweet oud, non offensive for western fragrance lovers, and a good blind buy. Lasts longer on clothes, the sillage is average and longevity 2-3 hours max.

The best of 2013 non medicinal oud+balsamic amber+red berries. 9/10

I understand Terryfic Oud Extreme is out. How true is this?
