Dancing With Strangers 4160 Tuesdays

The prettiest powder puff of a violet! Described as a "classic lipstick and powder, rose and violet fragrance, with twists of white flowers, entwined with honeysuckle and surrounded by soft musks," but it really is all about violet. The "lipstick" note smells specifically, to my nose, of L'Oreal lipstick, which I adore. Dancing With Strangers reminds me of Guerlain's Insolence EDP but softer, powderier, lovelier, and without the berry notes. And while not listed, I sense a brief yet enchanting sparkle of aldehydes in the opening, similar to the opening of Chanel's Misia. Created "in the style of a 1960s American voluptuous feminine perfume, the inspiration behind Dancing with Strangers was Truman Capote’s infamous Black & White Ball of 1966." It is easy to imagine one of Capote's Swans - or even Proust's 19th century heroine Odette Swann - at her dressing table, surrounded by her powders and potions... A lovely and timeless boudoir perfume. I do wish performance was a bit stronger, I must overspray in order to achieve desired sillage. But it is well worth it for this beautiful fragrance. Also, I enjoy wearing it with the inexpensive yet lovely Accordo Viola L'Erbolario body cream, which I use as a hand lotion. Dancing With Strangers is the perfect violet I have been seeking!

I LOVE THIS ONE! It's my perfect feel-good powdery fragrance. I'm very selective when it comes to powdery fragrances. Sometimes they resemble actual powder too much, to the point that they make you cough and it distracts me from the actual smell of the fragrance. Guerlain's L'Heure Bleue and SP Parfums Powder & Dust are examples of powdery fragrances I can't tolerate. This collab with Tessa Williams and 4160 Tuesdays though, is magic. Dancing With Strangers is a lightly sweetened, uplifting, enchanting, feminine, lipstick powder with a seamless blend. The powder doesn't overwhelm the fragrance, so it has the most intriguing fairy-like scent trail that doesn't really get boring to me. I just feel like smelling this for hours and I don't feel restricted to wearing it for certain occasions only. I can were this day, night, hanging out with friends, getting comfy in the house, winter, summer, etc.

WOW. I have been searching for years for the perfect lipstick/violet fragrance. Lipstick On, Lipstick Rose, Lipstick Fever, etc. did not work for me. They're always either too rosy, too sharp, too fruity, too powdery, too sugary, too juvenile or too mature... but this is none of that. I found the perfect one!! This is perfectly balanced-- a realistic lipstick note that's not too waxy, a violet that's not too baby powdery, very soft rose (and I normally dislike rose). So smooth and well-rounded, feminine but not girly, very slightly sweetened. I don't particularly pick up on honeysuckle or white flowers but I think that's probably what's keeping this from being too one-dimensional. I can't get over how good this is. As soon as I sprayed my sample I ordered a full 100ml bottle. Instantly a favorite.

DOLL’S HEAD fragrance I see people searching for a “doll’s head” fragrance in the forum - this is it! It’s far too cutsie to smell like a woman’s makeup bag, this is a little girl’s toy smell. There’s nothing grownup or womanly about this. Specifically, it smells exactly like an 80s girl toy called “Keypurs” - the Swan. Think little girl’s pink baby doll type aroma. Baby powdery, rosey, sweet, cute. Like Teint de Neige but rosier. If you want a fragrance that smells like lipstick, you’d be better off with Incarnatia or Moulin Rouge 1881. They are more accurate. Dancing with Strangers is still gorgeous though. It can be bought from the Tessa Williams website.

I love this fragrance, my favorite so far from this house. For some reason this perfume smells like tea to me, I also get the lipstick smell but its not powdery on my skin it smells waxy and like a creamy lipstick. It's really hard to describe this scent, I have never smelled anything like it. I just bought a full bottle and am happy to have it.

I fell in love with this fragrance and recently bought my second bottle - it’s just lush, divine. I still believe what I wrote earlier but I love this fragrance and miss it when I’ve used it all up. It’s a far cry from all the basic-smelling scents out there. You will get noticed. I get a lot of compliments when I wear this.

the most gorgeous violet scent. it's so sweet and pretty and girly, perfect if you like powdery fragrances. i find myself thinking about this perfume so often because of how beautiful it is. easily one of my favourites

This wins the award for the most realistic scent of a vintage makeup bag. A flower power scent: I get lipstick, rose, violets, powder and the 1960s plastic bag material (in the opening). No disrespect to Sarah McCartney, but I also smell Barbie dolls. As far as transformative, Dancing With Strangers wins. Violets are more prominent in the dry down, and that’s when this scent becomes easy to wear. But that opening....crazy balls.

Tried a tester in store and was very pleasant light musk, even papery. From a new bottle though it was intense powder, lipstick, and florals, like huffing your rich aunt's messy makeup bag. Much more feminine than I was expecting and unfortunately cloying. Still an enjoyable and well made femme fatale fragrance but definitely not for everyone and not for close spaces. Might look at trading or selling in the future.

Absolutely the best violet fragrance I’ve smelled. Violet and iris fragrances tend to be mixed with musk and they tend to be very powdery. To the point of smelling like baby powder. This isn’t too powdery at all. Just pure bright and fresh violet. With a kind of make-up powderiness rather than full on baby powder. Very sweet, lovely.

I love a sweet violet but this was a miss for me, unfortunately. It opens with a very realistic lipstick and then settles to a sweet girly scent. It’s not heavy or notable enough for me to buy a full bottle but I can understand why others love it!

If you have smelled Chanel Misia, this is super close to that. It has that same waxy lipstick/violet smell. I do like the smell a lot, I’m just trying to figure out if I actually want to smell like that.

Sadly a miss for me. This opens as an INCREDIBLY realistic waxy lipstick, but dries down to a cloyingly sweet lipstick/makeup scent that is a dead ringer for the cheap makeup sets that I played dress-up with as a child.

The notes listed gave me an impression that this would be the perfect coquette or “last hoorah of girlhood” perfume. Sadly this isn’t that :(. The main notes I get are a powder rather than a lipstick scent. I don’t get any rose at all and the white florals are far in the background. If you’re not a white floral person or are introducing yourself to them that might be an upside. The honeysuckle acts as a sweetener to the violet and “lipstick” (baby powder at best) notes. Around 30 minutes into the dry down I’m sniffing deeply to find the scent at all honestly. Which at the price point immediately crosses it off of my lists of perfumes to purchase. If you enjoy “your skin but better” scents you could possibly like this. This doesn’t last on skin but sticks onto fabric surprisingly so. - Baby wipes/Baby powder scent. - Lipstick not comes out on clothes not skin. - Smells like a high quality fabric softener. - Honey suckle adds a sweet smell to the violet and lipstick note - White florals not very strong gets over powered by the violet note. - Smells better when used as a room/bed spray. - Lipstick note is powdery once it dries down. - Not long lasting on skin, fades in about 3 hours but stays on fabric for days. - Wish that’s the lipstick note was more obvious and hyperrealistic. - Smells like red rose from Al rehab.

I was lucky enough to get 4160 Tuesdays’ Temptation for Christmas and it came with some free trial sizes. This was one of them and it is lovely. It is reminiscent of Chanel’s Misia, which also suggests the scent of lipstick with powdery violet and rose, or Frederic Malle’s Lipstick Rose. Violet is very much to the fore in the top notes, although it doesn’t smack you in the face like Guerlain’s Insolence and it recedes into the mix a couple of hours in. The base notes aren’t specified in the notes above but there has to be musk in there and something slightly spicy. I don’t get any sweetness although that is listed in the pyramid above. The overall impact is very elegant. For me, it’s not so much about dancing with strangers as it is about getting ready to go Out out. (That’s not a typo - see Mickey Flanagan).

A stunningly beautiful green leaning rose covered in a very sweet, crumbly face powder. It opens full of violets, and maybe I am also picking up on some geranium accord?? It reminds me of a Christmas when I was a teenager in the 90s. Typically I stay away from anything too lipsticky, but this one really draws me in. The dry down is just lovely and comforting, it lasts for a really long time and is beautifully warm and wafty. Although I feel like the scent is more romantic, I also love the idea of sharing this intimately with strangers united by music and dancing - I'm sure they would want to get close to you if you wear this one!

I wasn’t sure to start with but after it had dried down for about an hour it was everything I wanted it to be.

This one reminds me a lot of Goutal Etoile d’une Nuit.
