Santal Vanille

I love this perfume. It grew on me. I've tried in both warm and cool weather and I think it really shines in just slightly cool weather but even in warm weather I think it has a unique fresh and zesty quality that's rare to find in scents of this type. In winter, it's very resinous and I get the pepper, sandalwood and cedar most of all. It smells like a dry resinous, Southwestern desert and very expensive. I love it and it almost leans a bit towards leather if sprayed on clothes. Completely unisex, maybe just a tad feminine once the vanilla blooms. When it's warmer, the cardamom and coconut take over and for some reason it gives off a fresh, almost aquatic tone to the fragrance, despite it being a spicy, woodsy concoction. In the summer the vanilla and cocoa can risk being cloying especially in high humidity but I find that the cardamom offers enough freshness that unless it's record-high temps you're pretty safe wearing it out even in the heat. Once again, super unisex but with the cardamom shining in the heat, it leans a tiny bit masculine. Either way, it's very smooth, creamy and nothing smells unnatural or harsh. I had a sample which progressed to a travel spray, to two travel sprays and now a full bottle. It lasts a few days on clothes (mostly the cedar and pepper notes) and at least the whole day on skin. I love this perfume and think it beats Diptyque's Eau Duelle as it's in the same family but cheaper and smells smoother in my opinion. Eau Duelle is cool in that you really do get two parallel fragrance experiences (resins and vanilla) but I like how this fragrance blooms and you get a consistent progression of all the notes listed.

I LOVE this perfume. It’s the signature scent I’ve been searching for for years. On me, it settles into a warm and slightly spicy vanilla with the sandalwood hanging around in the background. I occasionally get a hint of the fresh coconut note. It’s so comforting and warm but with a bit of intrigue and mystery that keeps it interesting and unique. I also get the hay note when I first spray this and wasn’t sure where it came from. I looked at the ingredients and saw that coumarin was one of the top ingredients. Coumarin is an aromatic compound that in its pure form, smells like a mix of vanilla and warm hay! It is naturally found in sweetgrass, a type of grass that’s sacred in many Native American cultures (I learned about it from the book Braiding Sweetgrass). The grass is harvested, dried, and braided with 21 strands per braid (7 x 3). The first 7 represent 7 generations of ancestors who came before us and shaped us, the second 7 represent the 7 sacred teachings (love, respect, honesty, courage, wisdom, truth, and humility), And the third 7 represent 7 generations of descendants who will come after us and whom our actions will impact. I thought this was such a lovely coincidence with the 7 Virtues and their mission and makes me love this perfume all the more.

Sandalwood is a tough note for me that easily and often veers into pickle juice territory (why I'm not fond of Santal 33, for example). However -- thankfully! --Santal Vanille does not. Maybe the addition of the yummy cardamom, myrrh, pepper, and vanilla tamps down the pickle note enough so that it's not a problem for me. In any case, it's an absolutely beautiful scent that has a warm, spicy, rich vanillia-y woodiness that I find absolutely delicious. Incidentally, I am a huge BDK Gris Charnel fan but don't think they smell that similar. I also adore Matiere Premiere Parisian Musc (which has cedar, not sandalwood), and which doesn't smell at all like Santal Vanille but somehow they share a very outdoorsy, natural quality. I think I like the fact that none of these perfumes are super sweet -- in spite of the vanilla -- but, rather, are spicier, which I loooovvve. By the way, I have a rollerball and I have to put on quite a lot for it to last, but I do have to apply after about 3-4 hours. Maybe the perfume spray lasts longer...? ---------------------------------- Edit: I just realized that Santal Vanille reminds me of a simpler and less patchouli forward Chantecaille Kalimantan -- also, to my nose, an absolute stunner.

I used to wear this fragrance every day—I tested it in Sephora one day and wandered out without buying it, but found myself nonstop sniffing my arm. A few hours later, I was back in the store to pick up a full bottle. I wish I could go back to how this fragrance used to smell for me—it was a creamy yet sophisticated vanilla with just the right amount of sandalwood and cardamom to give it some depth and make it stand out from the mass of vanilla fragrances on the market, but unfortunately, a year and a half into owning my bottle, I no longer love Santal Vanille—either the formula has gone off (as clean perfumes are wont to do, so I really wouldn't rule it out) or my nose has changed. Now, it smells like straight sandalwood to me, which is just not that interesting. I'm sad about it, either way. I may try to get a new sample and see if it's just my bottle or if it's an actual me problem.

Beautiful and comforting, I actually think this is a more approachable version of santal 33. The “dill” element that is often a detractor, it’s not present here. Something about the vanilla/myrrh combo stifles it (the dill note) so you can solely appreciate the sandalwood as you might in este lauder sensuous. But this is less dry, it’s almost creamy in fact from the supporting essential oils. The wood smells very fresh and realistic, as if you’re walking through the lumber aisle in Home Depot...but there’s a sexiness here (immediately I snap back to reality and out of aisle 28)...that sweetness and cashmere quality mixed with the vanilla...sweater weather and chai tea lattes, books and iron stoves. It’s perfectness is meek and understated, but so influential. Like a tufted chaise lounge in the winter. Sure it’s just a chair, but some nights it’s the best thing on earth.

I’ve had a love/not sure relationship with this frag since last spring. So much that I’ve ruled her out of my collection several times only to smell again at a Sephora and miss her dearly. It’s a sandalwood that starts sharp and powdery (like freshly ground sandalwood) and becomes creamy and spicy. I love it for the dry down. I thought it would shine in warm weather with its coconut, but it can become stomach-turning and dare I say “annoying” in high heat and especially humidity. However, when the right weather and mood strike together she gives comforting and smart vibes. A nice balance of refined and laid back- cultured. Unisex. Earthy and warm. I’d wear this to a concert in the park, a coffee date, to work, and even a busy day full of boring errands and running around. Performance becomes close to skin in a couple hours.

This is a lovely version of this 'type' of fragrance - you know it well: the Santal 33 brigade. What I enjoy about this one is it has a fruitiness, sweetness and softness that makes it a highly pleasurable wearing experience. Though I do see that this genre is completely gender inclusive, I think this is one of the more feminine renditions of this type, because it's slightly sweetened with the coconut and cacao. I'm quite addicted to it. This could be sweater-weather vibes: curled up with cocoa and a good book, but would smell just as nice in summer, I think. This is the first fragrance I've tried from this brand and I wondered because of the price point if it would smell synthetic. No, it doesn't. This smells as high quality as the rest of this modern sandalwood ilk. Very impressed.

Wow I cannot believe some of the negative reviews on this one cause to me this is the most perfect edgy cool girl fragrance ever!! The opening is reminiscent of the sandalwood in Santal33 but after about 30 minutes it goes into a completely different direction. From there it’s all warm and creamy spicey goodness without being too cloying, the coconut lending it a beautiful lactonic touch. I wear this all year round and have been obsessed with it for years now. In a similar realm like Glossier You Doux - Santal Vanille is also unisex and edgy, interesting smelling. This is nothing for the girly clean girls or flower enthusiasts. You have to be into something with a twist, maybe an expensive hotel lobby in a hip middle eastern boutique hotel. That's kind of the vibe I’m getting here.

Reminds me of burning palo santo , with a side of vanilla to sweeten things up. The sandal wood doesn’t feel creamy, but it feels rather dry, and I am guessing the myrr with olibanum is what giving it smokiness. It’s a huge like for me, doesn’t feel dense or dark, not too sweet. I can smell this one a good 5-6 hours and longer in clothes. Might consider burying a fb after my travel spray is gone Edit 6/23 I did, in fact , bought a fb . Fb is actually more creamy than my travel spray - which was more dry. I liked it a lot more dry but creamy isn’t bad ! It’s becoming a huge love for me. I love to layer this with Berdous’ Oud Al Sahara to give that myrrh a bigger boost because I totally love that warm, resinous feel of the myrrh. Ugh so intoxicating and comforting combo these two!

I’m not sure why this one is classified as a female fragrance, it’s unisex af. It’s heavy on the pepper and cardamom, and I can also smell the myrrh and woods, but that’s mainly it. I don’t detect any vanilla, cacao, or coconut whatsoever, there is no sweetness on me. This was a blind buy, and I bought it with Vanilla Woods (both rollerballs) and I’m glad I bought them together, as I can only really wear this with VW layered over it. I need that extra sweetness so it doesn’t pull as masculine on me. Even with VW on top, the spices, cedar, and sandalwood are strong and still dominate the combo. It’s not a bad scent, it just isn’t what I was looking for. The sillage and longevity are moderate on me. Not full bottle worthy. I’d love to smell this on a man though.

I was hesitant to review this fragrance after I got it because I couldn't tell if I didn't like the perfume or if I needed to give it a minute to macerate, but I can confidently say that I love this fragrance. It's definitely not for everyone, and if you've had a bad exprience with sandalwood fragrances I really wouldn't risk it. To me, all of the notes come out in the order written above, with the sandalwood pretty prominent throughout - I even pick up on the coconut. This is a cold weather fragrance for me, it leans very heavy in summer. Definitely among my more out there fragrances, I'm really happy to have this in my collection. It was an impulse buy that worked out, but if you like the notes you're seeing I think its worth the trip to sample it :)

Love how sweet and creamy this smells on the bottle, but the opening is nothing like it. It starts with what to my nose smell like the myrrh and then slowly settles into a greener sandalwood and lastly the vanilla comes through as well. Love this dry down. Not a lot of projection and on me turns into a skin scent almost immediately. Might still splurge on a full bottle bc I really like the dna! EDIT: it does NOT really smell like Santal 33, but uses a similar sandalwood note, but all around that note is different (at least on me, and I own Santal 33) EDIT2: bought it, but the full bottle seems to not have the same opening and rather immediately goes to the sandalwood and vanilla dry down, which makes me a bit sad, but I still love it SO MUCH.

the first time i smelled this, i did not like it. i am now obsessed with it. if you are smelling it for the first time, it will likely be more spice-forward and less vanilla than you are expecting. and then you will keep thinking about it, and thinking about it, and thinking about it until you smell it again. on the skin, this is absolutely decadent. the spices mellow out into the most beautiful santal scent, with the vanilla and cashmeran adding an incredible creaminess. the most comforting scent in the world. i very quickly ran out of my sample, and i’ve ordered both a full and travel size as i am terrified that t7v might discontinue this scent as its been put in “the vault” and if i couldn’t smell this regularly i would be devastated

My favorite sandalwood EVER. I always want to have a bottle of this on hand. It's a fresh sandalwood which isn't dry at all - it's softened by the coconut milk note and the vanilla. The soft sweetness isn't gourmand or sugary, but rounds out the woodiness of the sandalwood and cedar. There's a slight spiciness to this scent as well, coming from the cardamom, pepper, and myrrh. This is a must try if you want a soft-spicy woody scent that is extremely wearable. Longevity is decent, so is sillage. Sandalwood is my favorite note because it's very calming and grounding to me. Out of all the sandalwoods I've tried, this has the most calming effect - it's my go-to scent in general but I love putting it on before bed.

Love. This was not love at first spray, however. At first it seemed too heavy, too earthy, too deep, too oud-y for me. Yet I began reaching for it in the evenings for its aromatherapeutic properties (especially the myrrh) and little by little this became a daily ritual. I now wear it daily in the evenings along with a few dabs of organic lavender essential oil. I've had fewer migraines since beginning this and I came to discover that myrrh is actually good for headaches. Cheers to the 7 Virtues for this healing gem. It's also beautiful worn alone as the drydown opens up into a deep coconut vanilla. This is a very boozy and deep fragrance and an excellent choice if you love vanilla, sandalwood and myrrh.

I LOVE this fragrance. It smells a lot like Santal 33 to me from Le Labo, but with some vanilla mixed in. To my nose it smells, clean, fresh, warm, cozy, and sophisticated all at the same time. I own the roller ball and I can smell this for a long time after applying (like 6-8 hrs), but sillage is intimate-moderate. I can't wait to buy a full bottle :) Edit: I did get a full bottle after I used up travel size. Disappointed. I feel like the sent lasts 15 mins. I don’t even smell it on clothes. Even travel sized I could smell it on my blanket after applying before bed. Might return ☹️ Edit edit: never mind, it’s good! Not sure if it needed to sit for a week or if my nose just had become accustomed to it!

I am really falling in love with this one. It has a smoother, sweeter dry down in comparison to santal 33, which I think is better imo (I don't like santal 33 because of its leathery, cedar drydown). This one starts out with a kick of spicy wood, which is prominent for about an hour. About 2 hours in, the spice has simmered down a bit but is still detectable. But the remaining bold mid notes of creamy sandalwood and vanilla stick around and it is niiiiiiiice. This is a lovely sandalwood perfume that is balanced out nicely with vanilla and spices. Definitely prefer this over santal 33. It's like a beautiful girl who doesn't know how beautiful she is, with rough edges. Love love love this one 10/10

I'm surprised no one has compared this to Crystal Noir in the dry down...this might be my skin chemistry, but I get a very feminine, sweet, creamy, slightly spicy dry down as OG Crystal Noir. Very similar notes - coconut, sandalwood, cardamom, spices. Only difference between the two: SV woody (sandalwood front and center); CN floral (sandalwood in the base). SV opens up harsh (I actually love the opening), yes, but dry down of this is super sexy...like maybe it just melds perfectly with my skin...? I completely do not get the harsh, masculine vibes of this frag that others have mentioned. Santal Vanille is easily one of my top fave fragrances...ever.

This perfume is everything I wanted from Le Labo's Santal 33 and Versace's Crystal Noir - two perfumes that didn't work well on my skin, but that I loved on paper. Santal Vanille has the best of both worlds: the lovely, rich sandalwood in Santal 33, and the breezy, tropical coconut from Crystal Noir, with a touch of added vanilla. Together, they make a stunning, unique scent that I can't get enough of. My boyfriend really likes it as well, and he's quite picky with scents. The scent has medium longevity on my skin (approx. 3-4 hours) but lasts days on clothes. I am so happy I came across this gem, and hope they don't discontinue it.

Love! To me, this is a perfect blend of spicy woods with a hint of creamy sweetness to keep things grounded. The coconut in the opening gives off a creamy feel (rather than the scent of sunscreen) and the vanilla is well-balanced/not at all cloying. In comparison to Santal 33, I would say this has a little more going on, whereas Santal 33 is straight & to the point, minimalist sandalwood (also very beautiful, just different). In terms of wear, this works great on my skin, lasting through a typical workday. Everyone is obsessed with Vanilla Woods from this line, but I think this one is the real star!

Got a sample of it a while back, then when I tested it all I got was pickle. Decided to test it again today and oh my goodness, this smells like amazing yummy creamy cardamom. Super spicy and comforting like a hug. Definitely a cozy scent. If I hugged someone wearing this I would instantly fall in love. This is the ultimate cozy autumn/winter scent. It gives ultimate sex appeal without ever trying too hard, like someone who can wear a knit sweater and still be absolutely hypnotic. Safe to say, Santal Vanille has captured my heart.

This pulled way too masculine on me and wasn’t what I was looking for, so I gave my rollerball to my boyfriend, and omg... I can’t stay away from him when he wears it. The perfect masculine vanilla for cold weather. I stg he better only wear this for me and not to work because 🥵 it’s far too sexy for the general public. The sillage and longevity are incredible with this damn rollerball. I’m glad it worked out with his chemistry and didn’t go to waste. Lawwwwwd it’s so good on him.

As others have said, there is an initial hay-like (barn like???) note that this starts off with. I have a rollerball which really doesn't suit a fragrance like this and I might swap it out for a spray. Then the scent starts to let go of the alcohol a bit and the amber/myrrh/coconut comes out and it is very lovely. I'd say this might need a couple of chances before its real beauty comes out. To me, it's another love for my amber spicy vanilla shelf!

I love sandalwood and vanilla so I knew I had to try this, and I love it! I find it to be very cozy and exotic vacation smelling without being too beachy. Definitely a summery smell to my nose but not in the sunscreen/suntan way. I think the woody notes easily transition this to be a fall/winter scent as well and the creaminess gives it that “pull on your boots and sweater” vibe. Great scent from 7 Virtues.

Opening is similar to Santal 33, sans pickle note. Right after it develops into a creamy hotel lobby vanilla with a woody edge. Like me, this fragrance can go both ways, I recommended it to a friend and it projects way more masculine on him while on me it stays in the soft sandalwood almost tropical area. Lasts a long time and 7 Virtues is a house I love because every one of their fragrances is a hit!

Opening has a little bit of a kick from the cardamom that I really enjoy! I put this one on at 6pm and could still smell it by the time I went to bed after 12. Really delicious smell, I don't get any pickle but I understand that's a case-by-case basis. The heart has a very rich sandalwood and the dry-down is more vanilla, which normally isn't something I reach for but here it just works so well.

Love at first sniff. I drove half an hour the next day to go purchase it. (the store I tested it at was out of stock). Not too spicy. The sandalwood is so smooth and creamy, but yet the coconut note doesn't stand out. I had avoided testing this due to the coconut note, but kept seeing good reviews on YouTube. So happy I didn't miss out. All the notes are in perfect harmony.

I love this for a more feminine santal scent. I am a big santal fan and santal+cardamom is one of my favorite combinations. I get a bit of a nice sweet fruity vibe from this too which is a nice contrast to my santal 33. Can be a bit punchy but it draws down comfortably and makes for a happy, springtime scent. I am not a fan of super feminine scents so this is perfect to me

I bought this as a blind buy because I love sandalwood and vanilla. Thankfully I love it. It is a lot like I expected the 7 virtues Vanilla Woods to smell like for some reason but they are completely different. Luckily I only had a tester or the vanilla woods but I have a fairly large travel rollerball of this because I love it.

I came back here to say that this thing really blooms in summer. I bought it in winter, thought it was good, but now I think it's even better in the warm weather. It's so creamy and the coconut shines through without smelling like sunscreen. I still don't get the comparison to Santal 33, which I can't stand.

For real, this is perfect at the beach. The coconut is soooo gorgeous. It's very dense for high heat but I think it works so well. I put Montblanc Explorer over this and it was magnificent. Pina Colada at it's finest. But it's wearable any time, it's dense, the vanilla and sandalwood is very enticing.

I really get the Cardamum, Cedar, sandalwood and vanilla in this! smells like a cozy evening, with a spiked hot tea. It smells nothing like "Vanilla woods" by the same brand, and I much prefer "Santal Vanille". Reminds me of BDK`s gris charnel and Replica autumn vibes, but with more Vanilla.

Love it. Authentic, fresh and creamy sandalwood. Very clean. Personally I prefer sweeter scents and could do with more of the vanilla (it’s there, just takes a few hours to warm up and it shines through). But I have come to really appreciate this as is. Perfect for fall and truly unisex.

This pulls pure sandalwood on me. Very earthy, woodsy, and calming. Smells “natural”, there is no perfume vibe to it. Stays on long and gives something like an old money vibe- mahogany wood dark private country club bar, sipping scotch neat, waiting for a valet to pull up your Porsche...

I have always really liked this one for cozy fall/winter vibes, but this year I am discovering just how fabulous of a summer scent this makes! The sweet coconut really shines in the heat and it makes for a summer-appropriate woody-spicy summer fragrance with 4+ hours longevity for me.

I love this scent. It’s the perfect sandalwood to me. It’s warm and creamy. Makes me feel like I’m at a nice evening cocktail bar, at a luxury resort. I think think the coconut really elevates the fragrance. A great alternative to Santal 33, which smells like sweet pickle juice to me

The moment I smelled this, it reminded me of sitting by a Mango tree with an overripe mango freshly bruised from a fall. There is also a hint of cardamon and vanilla bean kulfi with a sweetness that reminds me of piloncillo. Maybe it's been done before, but it is quite beautiful.

It reminds me of sitting below a Mango Tree. Bruised, overripe, almost vanillin-soaked mango. I once made this really easy dessert mousse in a blender made with 1 mexican vanilla, purée of 1 very ripe mango, and one tiny can of coconut cream. This reminds me of how that smells.

Opening is heavy on the pepper and cardamom, spicy but refreshing. The olibanun makes all the notes come together cohesively, this perfume is a warm and spicy resinous perfume thats unisex leaning feminine. If a Minecraft Desert Temple had a smell this would be it.

Gosh I love this. It's my new favorite. Spicy and woody, but also sweet and gourmand. It lasts nearly all day, and the dry-down is stays true to the santal scent. It doesn't change much, but does get a little amber to it. I like that though.

Gris Charnel has been on top of my want list but this has totally pacified me. So obsessed with this creamy beauty. It's the perfect amount of sweet for me, maybe too much for some though. Also happy to support a clean, Canadian company.

I love this! Creamy, woody, and a little bit sweet. People seem to pick up on "dill pickle" in a variety of different sandalwood fragrances (including this one) but nothing smells pickle-like to me. I would wear this every day.

This is what I was hoping Santal 33 to be. That smelled like cucumber and violet leaf to me, this is a warm sandalwood and cardamom. I don't get anything pickley and as someone who doesn't like coconut, I don't get it either

Sandalwood, creamy Vanilla, and CARDAMOM! So delicious. Slightly masculine and I love it for that. It’s very long lasting and strong as well without being overpowering. Perfect for fall and winter as it’s slightly spicy

I have this in the roller ball perfume oil and I pair it with J.H.A.G. "Superdose," it's chefs kiss! This combo make me smell like I'm the wife of an oil tycoon 💅. .

This is SOOOO GOOD! Reminds me of Le Labo Santal 33 (~90% similar), just less leathery or masculine. It's still classy, woody, and very wearable.

This is a year-round, signature scent, fresh vanilla. I didn't think vanilla could be so light! It's fresh, but sexy with some depth
