Vetiver Elemi

First of all, let me say this: I’m a gay, cis, fairly masculine guy, and kind of by accident I stumbled upon this perfume brand called The 7 Virtues. During Black Friday I ended up buying Amber Vanilla, Coconut Sun, Clementine Dream... and this one, Vetiver Elemi. Funny enough, Vetiver Elemi was the cheapest of the bunch, and easily the best one. Amber Vanilla honestly does nothing for me; it just smells like a generic “older lady” perfume. Coconut Sun and Clementine Dream are nice though, very gender neutral, easy, perfect for summer, holidays or beach vibes. Pleasant, no complaints. But Vetiver Elemi? Delicious. It’s very vetiver forward, but not smoky or dirty. This is a clean, elegant vetiver, lifted with citrus and softened with subtle spices that give it roundness and depth. It definitely leans more masculine than feminine, but honestly, anyone confident enough could wear this proudly. It works beautifully for work, but also for a casual morning out or even a night that’s meant to feel a bit more sensual. It lasts well if longevity matters to you, and while it has presence, it never feels loud or offensive. Sadly, this one was cheaper because it’s being discontinued. The brand claims to be unisex, but let’s be real, their main market is women, so this gorgeous scent is probably getting lost along the way. Which is a shame. If you ever see Vetiver Elemi still floating around somewhere, try it. I’m pretty sure you’ll like it.

This one is sooooooo good! Creamy, woody, fresh at the same time, and almost a spiritual vibe, you have to smell it to understand, hard to put into words but wow love it. I'm afraid it will soon be discontinued because it was not available on the 7 virtues website and there were only a few left on the Sephora website, I didn't take any chance I ordered it right away. Of all the samples in the 7 virtues sample kit, this is my favorite, with the Jasmine Neroli. I had first bought the Jasmine Neroli but after trying the others more and more, the Vetiver elemi quickly became my favorite of all. I will use sparingly because if it is indeed discontinued I may not find any more. It is truly a gem. Can be easily unisex. Definitely not for everyone as it is not the usual mainstreim designer fragrance we smell everywhere, but if you want a different scent that smells wonderfully good, I highly recommend it.

This is the first "Vetiver" fragrance that I gravitate towards. I normally dislike vetiver when it is pronounced in a perfume, but this is something special. It has a certain creamy, green note as well as floral notes that accompany the vetiver, and make a vetiver hater fall for it. It could be the smell from a dessert or confectionery. And may be since this is a natural, clean perfume, the vetiver smells different from the synthetic notes that I may have smelled earlier. I have a sample and am getting a bottle. It sits very close to the skin, hence very appropriate for the work. I also tend to get headaches from a few very heavy fragrances, though not all. This fragrance is safe to use for people who are prone to headaches from strong fragrances. I love it.

I’m in love with this. I blind bought it from Sephora because it was on sale and I’m so glad I took a chance. This is a beautiful fresh, warm weather scent that is the opposite of the usual coconut, vanilla sunscreen offerings. It’s spicy and citrusy at first but dries down to a lovely fresh, slightly smokey green with a hint of something sweet in there. It kinda gives me elevated patchouli hippy vibes, which is most definitely my jam. I can’t stop wearing it. I do wish it lasted longer, but I think that’s the price you pay for clean scents.

I'm in between liking and loving this. It's hard to compare it to anything. There are very strong lime notes that you pick up immediately. Great for summer or spring weather.

I blind bought this because it has Vetiver and was on sale, so I had no idea what this smelled like and only bought it cause I love Vetiver and it was on sale. It’s very astringent in the opening, and at first all I smell is a fresh splashing of aftershave worn by a Caribbean uncle. Not Bay Rum like most of my elder patriarchs wear, but more so like my Haitian great uncle’s aftershave that leaves a bright green scent cloud in the bathroom every morning in his Florida home. A bit masculine, but sweet, green, woody, astringent, and pleasant. *This* is what I think of when I think of “clean” scents. As it mellows out you get wafts of woods and resins that really complement the Vetiver. I don’t get any citrus unfortunately, but I thoroughly enjoy the scent. If you like pure Guaiac and Hinoki one note scents then I think you will like this. I think this is unisex, but it may lean more masculine for those who associate woody or fougere scents with only being masculine. I would wear this but I would also love smelling this on my husband and this might become another scent we share( like Le Labo’s Coriandre 39). I actually think this may work well with a sweet violet( or rose, since rose is one of the middle notes) to make it more feminine, and I may try that because I love layering, but I really like the nostalgia of this scent as it is. This is a perfect jeans and crisp button down or linen set in the summer scent. Daytime, for sure. Edit: Ok, a good 5 hours after first wearing and it’s still going strong. The opening went away after 15 minutes and it’s still the greenest most Vetiver smelling woody scent! This smells like REAL Vetiver and not that synthetic shit! I looked and saw they use Haitian Vetiver oil, so that explains it! I’m extremely experimental with scent layering and sprayed some Clementine Dream on top and OMG! I was right—if this leans too woody and masc you can easily use a sweeter perfume to soften it up. I suggested sweet violet but it seems a gourmand citrus works as well! Seriously considering getting a second bottle since I love it so much and it’s discontinued.

I blind bought this when it was on sale at Sephora and I enjoy it although I can admit it is a little basic. I feel like many of the notes meld together, like the vetiver, patchouli, and cardamom, to give a very deep, rich, earthy spicy moss. It's a little loamy and a little skunky and definitely has that bite of cardamom and patchouli like a particularly aggressive powder chai tea mix. There isn't a ton of complexity, like I said the notes meld together and don't open or change as the perfume wears. I do also have to be careful of how much I spray because it's easy to go overboard and give myself a headache. But if you are one of those people that goes to forests just to smell the pine tar and moss, you may like this one. Incredibly niche, but if you enjoy Japanese botanical gardens and losing yourself in the less traveled corners to smell the hinoki and black pine and sunagoke, I think you'll really like this one.

Starts as a very fresh and airy vetiver. Beautifully done and not fussy (despite all those notes?!) It's a little bitter, dry and tangy. It develops an almost dusty drydown. At times this reads like the smell of a graphite pencil, where the woodiness is deep and smoked (there's lots of smokiness here). Not sure what I'd smell like to others while wearing this (and not sure if I'd actually wear this as a perfume) but I appreciate it and love smelling it on my wrist. A must sniff for anyone who enjoys vetiver! Update: Yes, I would wear this

Very cumin and spice heavy on first spray, I feel like I’m in a spice market in the summer time. But on the dry down it turns to a lighter, aromatic, green spice. It’s an earthier scent, perfect for mid summer picnics with friends drinking sparkling lemonade or going to the farmers market. It's an “I’m going to be outside all day” kind of scent. It’s clean and grassy with just enough citrus to keep it fresh and light, and the vetiver lends a pleasant herbal smokiness. I will be adding this to my warm weather collection.

This is a very grounding herbal scent. I am not a big fan of vetiver, sometimes it can be more masculine, however this one is fresh, a bit citrus, like what you'd smell in a park after the rain in a good way. Not too muddy. But it does have that subtle cumin nutmeg spices mixed in it, which I feel is not really necessary. The dry down is beautiful and consistent - moss and amber blends well here and definitely a unisex scent imo.

Very fresh, you can smell the grapefruit on the first spray. When it settles down, the spicy notes calm down a bit and give more Herbal notes. This fragrance is nice on the dry down and is perfect to wear on rainy days or on a day outside for a picnic.

I like this scent but after wearing it for a while it reminded me a very clean uncle’s beard. It is clean and also warm, but too masculine for me.

I used to love this and wear it all the time in the spring, but I haven't worn it in a couple years. I put it on this morning and I can't stand it! It starts out very very green and bright, and quite strong. For me the magic always happened in the dry down and in the scent that would linger on my clothes for days, bringing out some soft woody almost sweetness. But today that just doesn't seem to be happening. I sprayed 2 sprayed on my chest area around 3 hours ago and it's still all I can smell and is quite harsh and almost astringent smelling, and decidely masculine (which is funny because I never understood how people could feel this way about it!) I don't know if it's because I've been wearing a lot of soft musk skin scents that this now comes across like this for me but I can safely say I'm no longer a fan at all. It's actually giving me a headache. And for what it's worth, my 6 year old told me I smelled "wacky" after I sprayed this lol

I blind bought this because it was on sale and I am drawn to most of these notes and generally I love aromatic perfumes. Big mistake. This one is extremely heavy on the elemi, patchouli & Amber. I do not get any citrus, vetiver or woods. I expected it to be more green and mossy based on the notes, but I did not enjoy this blend at all. This was an instant return. If you do like patchouli, this does last forever.

I did a blind buy and kind of regret it. I like it in theory but the cumin and vetivier scent is really really strong. Opening is quite bitter and when I smell it I think of lamb skewers and roast meat which is nice for eating but not something I want to smell like. Thankfully it's not as harsh if roll it on clothes.

Not a fan at all. 1/10, I only get the herby and spicy notes and nothing else. Cloying and body odor-like.

If you can get the 7 Virtues sample set from Sephora or other places, I recommend it. It’s so fun to try them out and blend them oh yeah! I too love this and usually hate vetiver notes, avoiding anything that has it. Fragrances can be hard to describe but I’ll try. Some evergreen tones with dirt mixed in....I keep thinking of the smell of dirt when you are planting or digging, whether in the ground or just an indoor plant. Some Pine Sol in there maybe....not a classy description but I love the smell of pine cleaners. Fresh, clean, like the windows when you first open them in the spring. I live along the 53rd parallel in Canada so spring can really make an entrance here. Earthy. Heavy, deep and fragrant greens. Moss growing over the soft bumpy soil under evergreen trees. The resinous eleni blends and balances everything. I believe I’ll find more in this mystery and I can’t help smelling myself. I am delighted that a vetiver scent has taken my heart. The 7 Virtues company is Canadian 🇨🇦 too and although I am not a patriot I think things in your own country should be supported. If you don’t know, 7 Virtues supports farmers and local people in countries where poverty and strife are widespread. Farming roses in Afghanistan (for the Rose Amber perfume they sell) rather than poppies is more lucrative, and it remains out of the clutches of organized crime. Patchouli is harvested in Rwanda. The vetiver is from Haiti. Beautiful perfumes in more ways than one 🌿💐💕

Starts off with vetiver and a touch of citrus, which is fleeting. A bitter note comes out about ten minutes in, is that the elemi? It reminds me of Chinese medicinal soup. A little earthy, musky, bitter. Becomes more of an expensive hotel bathroom/spa at the one hour mark, and then skin scent soon after that. A bit more masculine than unisex, though a lady could definitely wear it. I like the idea behind this brand but the lasting power is not there.

This fragrance always makes me think of the Tree Stars in the Land Before Time. There’s something almost like dew on a green leaf, or getting caught in the slant of golden light coming through a dense forest, green and verdant, almost turning sweet from the sunshine. The combo of spice, grapefruit, and vetiver turns this into a completely unique combo for me, and a discontinued love of mine.

Ok, there are no reviews here yet to peek at to ruin my fresh "nose" review, but I think I've stumbled on my favorite fragrance of all time. I also love their patchouli citrus, but this one, with it's clean, fresh and green notes, is something I look forward to wearing every day! As it wears off during the course of the day, I do tend to smell the floral notes. I want to bathe in this. :)

This is clean, fresh as well as a bit mossy & spicy. It’s not the type of fragrance I’d typically wear but I do enjoy. Irish Spring soap comes to mind ... with more subtlety & more spice.

I really really liked it. Gave me a vibe of a meditation session or a fancy lifestyle store.
