Black Musk

I'm in love with Black Musk from The Body Shop's "fucking motherfucker" nocturnal vibe, there are reasons for this, including intense affective involvement with the girl (a naked and raw Pocahontas of beauty) from the my city! Oh heavens, what a crazy and pleasant world this perfumery world is, I can't live without it, ever! Leaving naughtiness and affections aside [...] Black Musk is a perfume for ulterior motives, even though I still consider its predecessor Red Musk a little superior, a perfume for meeting more than two, for accurate hunting and for do well at the time "H" and after the "H" too! It already opens peppery and slightly sweet, heating up with every movement, reverberating a dense and obscure odor like from its bottle. I feel a slight citrus content that doesn't advance much, because here the notes are widened and propelling one against the other. It becomes an exuberant floral, slightly oily, due to the Ylang Ylang note and highly sensual, already with perceptible nuances of moist woods and sprinkled by velvety touches as if it were a soft cover that would envelop and never let go! Its base is earthy, warm and very vanilla, but with bitter touches of Chocolate and a lot of Musk, but it's very Musk, very Musk, to say: CHEGAAAAAAAAAAA! I believe that because of the final combination, we are faced with the exceptionality that resulted in Black Musk! Speaking for myself, the perfume has evolved and stayed longer than expected, something like 10 hours in a row. I'm happy for the text and context that it always represents for me! (GREAT DANGEROUS).

This is soooo good. If you want a ELEVATED ‘Little Black Dress’ perfume this is the one. It’s not an exact dupe for Black Opium, but the same vibe is definitely achieved. I really like black opium but I would say this smells like her rich auntie. It’s classier but still extremely sexy, no less sweet, just sweet in a different way. My dad bought this in the EDP for my mum for Christmas 2020 and I was blown away by how good it smelt when she put it on. It was genuinely one of my favourite fragrances I’ve smelt on her, it suited her so well. That also lasted ALL DAY on her with absolutely beast performance all round so I ended up buying my own in the EDT soon after. The EDP definitely lasted longer but there was quite a big price difference so it makes sense. The EDT still performs well (better than some EDPs out there). This is a deep dark perfume that is just so smooth and warm and sexy, and I feel it would suit women of all ages, if you give off mature, classy vibes. It definitely smells like MONEY!! Even if you’re not into dark perfumes that much... I still think many people would be surprised by how much they would enjoy this. This is DEFINITELY a hidden gem in my opinion and I urge anyone to give it a chance if you’re reading this. BUY IT!! And to all those disappointed with the performance... invest in the EDP if you love the smell... it’s so worth it and lasts LITERALLY ALL DAY

What a nice little surprise! I have the oil version. Black Musk is a chocolate/vanilla musk scent, very subtle, only slightly fruity at first. This is like a baby La Nuit Tresor with the licorice note, which I love. I'd say, this is a good wear anywhere scent especially for people who aren't allowed to wear perfume at work. You can safely add the oil to a lotion to give it more real estate on your skin, or even better yet add another frag on top like La Nuit Tresor, or Chopard Wish, or La Petit Robe Noir, or really ANY chocolate and/or vanilla licorice scent. Really versatile. I'm curious about the spray version, but the oil is very nice. Don't expect monster sillage but the longevity has been good on me. I sprayed Outremer Vanille on later in the day (since I always carry a travel size) and it just woke the scent up again. It's a love for me!

Got the perfume oil of this and LOVE LOVE LOVE! I've had it for about 2 years now, and recently it seems to be not as strong as it previously was. When it was my daily my husband couldn't stop complimenting me on how I smell. He'd say I smelled like a yummy cupcake- warm and vanilla. (As a side note, light perfumes fly off me- but strong perfumes tend to wear well.) It would last about 4-6hrs on me, with the scent being close to skin. This wasn't a compliment getter, but an impression. If I gave a hug, I might get a compliment but people I met would later comment "you always smell so good." But, after not wearing it for a couple of months I've returned and it doesn't smell like anything. Could very well be due to improper storage, so I will definitely be buying a new bottle.

The EDP is a very warm, sultry and comforting scent. I get lots of milk chocolate, almond (heliotrope), vanilla and musk. I can pick up only a little patchouli, pear and licorice. It’s definitely sweet, but not sickly sweet or cloying. It’s soft. I think it’s a versatile scent which could be worn day or night and would be a crowd pleaser (but only for those who get close enough to smell). Pretty safe blind buy for gourmand lovers. Don’t expect a dark beast though!

I really, really like this! It is fruity gourmand, similar to what others have said. I do not detect musk but that's not to say it isn't there. I bought the body mist and hope I don't regret that - and should of bought the EDT//EDP instead? (they were more expensive -- yikes!) I love this :) Dark -black- musk is sexy, sweet and creamy YUM Doesn't seem to have good sillage or longevity though!!! URGH! >.

It's my favourite perfume after Kenzo by Kenzo. I have the EDP. It smells so good and has very good silage and is very very long lasting. I've got compliments wearing it. People just stand there in shock and say: oh what's your perfume? It smells like vanilla and it's woody and a bit fruity and something so enticing and dark that hugs you warmly.

I must admit I'm rather obsessed with Black Musk, the EDT is good, but the EDP is superb, it's so rich and dark, the notes are beautifully dark and heady. On my skin the vanilla/pepper combination is beautifully smooth, smells so good and lasts really well. The only thing I don't get a lot of, surprisingly is musk, who cares, this is a cracker.

Strange.. The mist version lasting longer than the edt and edp version on me :| Layer it with a coconut/monoi scented lotion or fragrance then voila! You get Bronze Goddess eau de parfum And also, the edt and edp version smells almost like Fantasy while the mist one smells more like Black Opium flanker

I have the edt - I prefer the edp, but this was a gift, and I am very impressed! I find it similar to Deep Euphoria - I don't detect any vanilla/chocolate, just a beautiful spicy light musk. Layering with Jovan Musk makes it last all day with soft projection. Longevity is great on clothing.

My favourite of all body shop frag. It is sweet gourmand-ish fragrance that is suitable for a night out with friends. Not loud, but it's just enough to make people notice you. It is not offensively sweet, but it make people around you comfortable. Longevity is a homework though.

I have the perfume oil of this and this has to be the body shop's most complicated scent unlike all of the others being very simple, it's a sweet, sensual, and it has so much depth, it's unique but it kinda reminds of a sweeter black opium without the coffee note

Been obsessed with this fragrance for years, smells so sexy. Sweet with a hint of spice, I wish it lasted longer. This can sort of be achieved by layering the oil and perfume but still not the greatest staying power. Very affordable for everyday use

I think it's safe to consider this as a unisex perfume since this perfume also smells great on a man; its base notes really gives someone a nice and warm yet sexy image; I agree with anyone who mentioned that this perfume was made for cuddling.

The mist version reminds me of zara femme (hypnotic poison dupe? Idk, never smell it lol). I love this scent from the first sniffed, it's sweet rich a little bit warm but not overwhelming. Longevity? Blah. But it's a mist anyway so....

Not the biggest fan of black opium. Thankful this isn’t reminiscent of it! I’m obsessed with this I got the EDP but I need the oil!! Edit: I smell the black opium now. I still like this oil I think it’s a more suitable version for me!

It's remind me Black Opium YSL and Black Orchid by Tom Ford, it is sweet buttery delicious bit spicy and musky in dry down, love the EDP the most because it is sexy sensual and alluring.

Purchased the oil. Couldn't be happier with the scent! Black opium vibes, loving the coffee and pear in it. Definitely a winner. Absolutely amazing layered with Lancome La Nuit Tresor.

Love this!!! Used to be my signature. It has sweet notes but it was more spicy on my skin, smells so sexy! But the longevity is like 2 hours, it disappears...

Smells sweet, not overly sweet though, yet seductive with a perfect spice mix. It gives that mature sophisticated feel. Love it! Surprisingly lasts long too.

After my 3rd purchase I realized I'm addicted to it LOL it is perfectly blended, sexy perfume made for cuddles :) I'd say it would suit women of all ages.

Beautifully composed, dark and mysterious - the name is not misleading here. Perfect for girls who prefer to wear black even during summer. ****

Black Musk by The Body Shop, why did thou leave with all these existential questions? A dear friend got me The Body Shop gift coupon. I grew out of their fabulous smelling body butters long time ago and, as my skin is stupid and problematic, I couldn't allow myself to try out their skin care. Naturally, I decided to check out the available perfumes. I disliked Polynesian Island Tiare and wasn't sure I liked Indian Night Jasmine. With both my wrists already occupied, I sniffed Black Musk and thought: "This is it". It was all I wanted from a perfume - sweetness, the effect of smelling like a pie/something delicious; I felt comforted by it from the first sniff, it developed nicely on my skin too without any unwanted suprises; notes blended well. I know some describe sweet smells as sirupy, and sirupy can be used here, but not to describe the smell per se, more to describe the concentration of smell (metaphorically, of course) - Black Musk drapes smoothly onto skin and stays close. I can even understand why some might catch an old lady wibe off this. However, as I laid in my bed still sniffing the wrist before falling asleep, I started thinking to myself - as much as I enjoy sweet gourmand smells, can I really say I love this one? Could this be one of the perfumes defining a period in my life? Would I take it to an inhabited island with me? There are millions of oher perfumes in the world, why this? What was The Body Shop's idea behind this smell - was it just to jump on the Black Opium & Co. bandwagon? What's the story behind the color Black in the name, is this an automated impression that vanilla + gourmand note (chocolate in this case) + patchouli = "dark", "exotic" and "sensual"? After all, maybe I should look for sweet, but more unpredictable and less known? In the end I made the decision not to buy this perfume. In the world so interesting and endless I can't settle for The Body Shop. I think I will have to train my nose a bit longer to know how to separate life treasures from one night stands.

I have the EDP. This is a wonderful fragrance, but it still disappoints me a bit. It somehow walks the line between a gourmand and a clean fragrance. I think my disappointment just comes from reading the notes here and being disappointed by what I didn't smell. When I picked the Black Musk tester off the shelf at The Body Shop, the fragrance smelled exactly how I expected it to smell and I liked it enough to buy a full bottle. This is a great work fragrance since it mostly smells clean and subtle and the gourmand elements don't overpower but still make it a bit of a cozy fragrance. I do smell a bit of fruitiness in the opening and mid and I was suprised it wasn't plum or some other darker fruit note. I assume it's how the pear is blending with the licorice and chocolate that give me that impression. The performance is fine, but pretty decent when compared to other Body Shop fragrances I have tried. It is a skin scent almost immediately and for this fragrance I think that is a strength. This is a fragrance I wear when I want something subtle and I am not looking to be noticed for my fragrance. The longevity is about 4-6 hours. With other Body Shop fragrances I have noticed significant improvement in longevity when paired with the corresponding body products, but I don't remember if they come in the Black Musk fragrance. It's leans feminine but is pretty unisex overall. I find this more of a fall/winter fragrance while I would wear their White Musk in warmer weather since it is fresher and lacks that cozy feel of the Black Musk. The packaging is nice and simple, on brand for the Body Shop. The price point is excellent, especially since The Body Shop frequently has great promotions. but this is even good value at full retail.

OK so, skin test of the black musk edp, edt both with the black bottle and the white cap. (I've tested the black musk with the dark pink label on black bottle, edp, edt and oil). White cap edp is fruitier, whilst being rounded and warm. I wouldn't say it's hugely musky, not powdery - not in Narciso territory anyhow.. The edt flattens off a bit, and has a touch more musk.. and a slight haziness which thebedp does not.. The flattening off may be the chocolate in the edt.. it doesn't quite have the fullness of the edp, they last about the same time, the edt is a bit thinner, but really there's not much between them. I don't think white cap is like black opium, I have that and several flankers.. it could be slightly like black opium Blanche if you really want to push it, or black opium floral shock.. But not the same complexity... sorta.. The pink label versions I recall were less longevity.. the oil perhaps lasted better slightly but had less sillage, the edts bloomed better.. I cannot recall if the new bottles smell different to the older ones, I hate when brands do this.. The new versions need adding to the list fragrantica please..

The EDT opens dark and fruity, like a nice dessert of cooked pears with vanilla and licorice or anise. It has similarities to Black Opium, but it's not a dupe. This has no coffee note, more patchouli and spiciness and a warmer, less fresh pear note. It's lighter and a little more natural smelling. The musk and vanilla in the drydown have a slight Britney Spears Fantasy vibe. I liked it better when I tried it in the warmer months, it needs a little body heat to bloom and falls flat otherwise. The perfume oil is very faint and smells more like a random fruity vanilla. I'm not an oil person in general though. While I like the EDT, I don't think it would add anything new to my wardrobe. But I could imagine getting some of the body products on sale to layer them with Black Opium or something from the Fantasy range. I would like to try the EDP, but I never see a tester in the stores.

I smelled this on paper at the store and didn’t think much of it then, but after half an hour I kept smelling the paper again and again because I loved the creamy, sweet scent it was giving. I was close to buying the 30ml EDT the next day but instead opted for getting a sample online first. I’m glad that I did: on my skin the scent was much too sweet, sweeter than what I got from the paper. The musk is definitely there at the beginning but an hour or so in, you get more of the chocolate and licorice sweetness. I have a hard time recognizing any of the top notes or the florals when I wear it. I really like floral, faintly sweet scents and I thought this perfume would have that with the heliotrope and ylang ylang. It’s still a lightly sweet scent, it’s not strong but I didn’t like the chocolate sweetness enough to buy the full bottle.

I can't find the edp or perfume oil pages to add this review, so I'll put it here. Impressed there body shop, you made a long lasting fragrance (edp and oil version) I tried this, the British rose, and satsuma the other day. I got some notes that are shared with black opium, so if you are on a tight budget this black musk edp will give you the mid to end notes of black opium. Not the same but not far. I got, Warm Sweet Slight spice Creamy Maybe coffee at a push. Both the EDP and the oil did well, I prefer a spray personally. It's not unlike paco rabanne xs either. Pretty good for a body shop frag, they don't usually last on me but useful for freshening up in the car etc. you could have this as your touch up bottle for when you wear these type of fragrances. Mixing is an option?.?

I remember when it first came out in stores, I gave it a sniff without expectations, and I instantly fell in love with it. I bought a bottle right then. For me, this is the best fragrance that TBS has released so far. It smells so luxurious, it can pass for a designer-made perfume. However, it doesn't last long on me (around an hour or two at most), so it was a bit disappointing. I don't mind bringing it with me for reapplication though, since it is not that expensive. :) The scent from the initial spritz reminded me of Britney Spears Fantasy, although they are not too similar (Fantasy is much stronger). Also, I think YSL Black Opium Nuit Blanche's initial smell is a bit reminiscent of this fragrance, although that one is coffee-based and this has cacao instead.

i adore this perfume. i first bought this a good few years ago after sniffing it in the shop and almost immediately i fell in love with it. this perfume is like a nice warm cuddle the dark vanilla envelops you into this lovely warmth and the sweet milky chocolate adds that bit of real sweetness into the mix. my mum absolutely loves this perfume too and we’re countless bottles in now. the sillage is okay but the lasting power is wonderful in my skin. i can still smell it some 8 hours after applying it which really isn’t bad considering the price point. i like how accessible the body shop fragrances are as you can get some quality perfumes without breaking the bank. lovely. :)

not sure if the bottle i own is exactly the same as what is shown in the photos (the black musk i bought in store is a cylindrical black bottle with a white cap) but what a lovely musk scent !! sprayed black musk on my wrist and bought the edt 3 hours ago, and i can still smell it super well !! layers soso well with ariana's mod vanilla, emphasising the musky notes to make a super comforting and creamy combo <33 personally i don't believe this scent is super similar to black opium but i can understand why many would think so !! overall a very safe musk fragrance to own :)) edit: realised i own the edt, not the edp as shown in the photo! both smell identical tho :)

In a desperate bid to find something wintery and also affordable, I finally tried this fragrance today. I liked it enough to purchase. I think this will satisfy my craving for something like Opium, but not Opium. Black Musk is just a little spicy on my skin, in a very pleasant way. I do not become overwhelmed by those two nemesis of mine - patchouli and moss/woods. For the price, I think this is a really decent fragrance. It will see me through the Christmas chaos, quite nicely - giving off a gentle vibe. Should also add that I don't find this scent particularly gourmand, either. If I was Goldilocks, I would declare this fragrance, "just right".

Similar to Black Opium but less intense and a lot cheaper and easier to wear. I was browsing The Body Shop fragrances when the EDP version of Black Musk caught my eye. I spritzed some on paper and myself and said to the assistant "ooh I really like this one, but it smells like something so similar". She asked if it was Black Opium and I immediately said yes! I'm not a huge fan of TBS fragrances but I'd definitely wear this one. It's more bareable in the heat too than Black Opium which I strictly consider a winter scent.

If I blind test this along with Tresor La Nuit by Lancome, Loverdose by Diesel, Black Opium by YSL and Gold Couture by Juicy Couture, I could not tell the difference. This is my favorite of all of Bodyshop's Fragrance. Obviously it is not unique but it is well done, crowd pleasing, longevity is very good (but does not leave a trail or sillage to coin it properly) and budget friendly. For the price you could not go wrong, I mean there are perfumes that costs 3x as much and yet will last only a couple of hours, if that.

It's probably the most "perfumey" perfume I have in my collection. It's strong and attention-grabbing. I remember being in the store deliberating over getting this or white musk. The store employee recommended this because it was more "feminine" or something like that. I like both (maybe white musk a bit more) but this one is a great going out scent when you want to feel sexy. If I smelled this on someone, I would think they were confident and had their life together.

It doesn’t smell like black opium at all This one is wayyy lighter and more likeable and addictive to me without coffee or sugary-ness like BOYSL Also the chocolate note is there but absolutely not dominated really balanced scent with the littlest hints of licorice pink pepper and a noticeable pear in the opening and obviously strong musk note Beautiful beautiful vanilla also the most balanced vanilla i’ve smelled in my Life !!! Im in love

Wish it lasted more and had some projection. It's warm, comforting and a little bit sweet vanilla mixed with musk. Although the musk is weak it's still warm and cozy. I hardly get any floral notes but sometimes upon spraying it comes off fresh for a minute or two and then it's pretty linear musk and vanilla. Nothing extraordinary or different. Smells like most of the vanilla base perfumes. It's beautiful but basic!

I love The Body Shop products, but their fragrances unfortunately don't last on my skin. Since they are so affordable, it's not a big complaint, but it does bother me when I have to reapply constantly. Other than that, I cannot fault Black Musk: it's a very wearable soft fruity gourmand on a warm vanillic-musky base. Smells like Christmas market stalls with chocolate and mulled wine. :)

Im more a floral person than a gourmand and I don’t usually be interested in vanilla fragrances but that thing is GORGEOUS omg how im in love with that vanilla here its just the most balanced vanilla ever musky vanilic and the chocolate also isn’t as prominent here very balanced and well blended with the vanilla absolutely the best fragrance by TBS { after Glowing cherry blossom }

A very seductive scent. Sweet but not sickening, deep. Dark but charming. It calls attention to itself, but it is not intrusive. I can imagine a young, feminine woman who has a complex personality (a mix of strenght and fragility) wearing it. Definitely a date perfume, and a very good one at that. Sillage and longevity are moderate.

I've tried both EdP and the perfume oil and they're slightly different. EdP opens fruity with the pear while the perfume oil seem to skip directly to the middlenotes featuring heliotrope, licorice root and vanilla. This could be the child of White Musk Smoky Rose and Britney Spears Fantasy. I prefer the perfume oil.

Had the body spray version, received it as a gift. It's very sweet and musky, in my own personal opinion. Suitable for university students who want to smell nice for yourself only. The body spray lasts for 1-2 hours and you need to keep reapplying it. I personally would choose this over TBS white musk.

Black musk body spray, in glsss bottle. I think quite nice, this is warm, soft spice, musk, creamy ness. Perfectly acceptable and valu for money. Applied one squirt to hand around 10am, and beyond the 3pm mark it’s still there. I have reviewed the edp and perfume oil much earlier.

It's been a few days since I smelled it and all I can say now is that I didn't dislike it but it certainly did not have the impact on me as Red musk had. I would prefer the Red musk every hour, every day. BUT; I'll come back here when I'm more sure about the notes.

(Black Musk EDP version) Opening very similar to Poison Girl but less spicy, loses that quickly and progressively until it becomes another scent. I had an amazing impression at first, but quickly lost it. Still, my favorite from this brand right now.

This is such a well-balanced fragrance, i really love it! It is a little sweet and a little spicy, very seductive. The only downside is the longevity. It's gone after a couple of hours. What a shame, otherwise could have been one of the favourites!

Sensuous musky chocolate. I pick up on the chocolate more than anything. It kind of feels like lathering musky chocolate ganache on your body. Smooth like a familiar sweater yet sexy. I would recommend getting the oil version for longevity though.

Comfortingly sweet. There's something relaxing about the blend, intriguing even. And thank god (or the noses, rather) for the more interesting facets of florals and chocolate, and that it's not a simple candy floss type of scent. It's nice!
