Nigritella

Oh wow this is the little flower that grows in the mountains where I come from (Austrian Alps - not only Swiss like the description makes believe. We even have the 'Blutige Alm' which probably has its name from the fact that this dark red little flower is blooming there in massive carpets making the fields look blood-red). I never knew it is called Nigritella! We call it 'Blutstropfen' or 'Schwarzes Kohlröschen. It's a very fragrant little flower, all the bees go nuts for it. The perfume does it justice indeed. I love the elegant sweetness of it, not heavy but also not the sickly type of sweet. This holds very well on clothes. I kept sniffing my scarf the entire day. I got a few compliments on the scent, too, so it must radiate well. For me this is a romantic scent, maybe because of childhood memories of picking these flowers for my mom.

I think this whole collection is quite good, but Nigritella was my number one choice. Vanilla is definitely not the first thing that comes to mind. I think the pyramid depicts the fragrance quite well. The core of the perfume is flowers with the orchid being most prominent, and the citruses as the top notes. After it settles a bit, it gets warmed up by vanilla, but i think it creates more of a background without going overly sweet. I would say it is a feminine fragrance with a character. There is smth in it that keeps it from being too "nice" and sweet. I think it's perfect for autumn, when it starts to get colder and rainy.

I bought this in a gift pack a year ago for the winter. I wore it a bit and put it away, not really loving it much. I pulled it back out again for Autumn this year and it quickly grew on me. It has a citrus and green opening, which I don't notice too much because I get hit with the orchid and white flowers straight away. The orchid is soo lovely and creamy to me, maybe because of the vanilla. It then dries down to mostly vanilla, but I do get a hint of the sandalwood and musk. Overall I find this to be a classy floral vanilla, which is really nice and comforting to me in cool weather.

On me the most prominent smell is vanilla, then an orchid peeks out, giving the perfume an almost foodlike gourmandness, then tuberose comes out to play( on my skin at least) never dominating the scent,( vanilla and a waxy blooming orchid reign supreme here) and a mellow creamy sandalwood and musk rounds out the scent.On my skin I get about 2 hrs, on my clothing about 4 hrs of intimate sillage.I was complimented twice today wearing this blind buy.A familiar scent to me maybe Dior Hypnotic Poison Eau Sensuelle as iamnoir has said.I will be visiting this alpine orchid again.

I've sampled this twice and I quite like it. It opens with a BIG blast of white florals (I do get a bit of tuberose to be fair) and then it's ALL about vanilla for a few hours. I agree with other reviews in that it's a very "Body Shop" vanilla, and as a consequence gives me quite a nostalgic sense as I wore it in my teens. After a while it really feels to my nose quite a lot like Clinique Aromatics in Black (jasmine, I suspect?). This isn't a bad thing either. It's warm and feminine and the longevity on me is great for the price. Well done.

This is an extremely weather dependent perfume. It blooms only in certain conditions, I am not sure about the exact parametres, but it seems like 15-22 degrees. It has become one my my favorite comfort scent, like a rare fresh alpine flower wrapped in box full of vanilla and tuberose pot-purri. Occasionally the orchid is so fresh and realistic it transports me to the Alps. But for the price I think its really too soft and the silage is not that great either. So I have to use up a lot of the juice. But the fragrance is beautiful.

This is GORGEOUS. This is almost an exact copy of Hypnotic Poison...on my skin and in the bottle. It has that beautiful creamy vanilla/root beer aroma that HP also has. I only faintly pick up on the cocoa note, which I’m happy about because I don’t particularly like cocoa scents. This isn’t offensive and it’s extremely wearable. If you like HP and sweet creamy orientals, you’ll love this. I can’t believe I got this for $8.99 at Marshalls! If you can find it, grab it!

This is like vanilla orchid. At first, it smelled like Easter lily then the vanilla rose up. It turned into a creamy tuberose with vanilla. Warm, cozy, rich, sensual and tropical. This whole series is fantastic.

This is such a dead alike of Hypnotic Poison, it's not even funny. It also has a brutal lasting power and sillage, just like Dior's original. Well appreciated. Perfect for cool weather and Christmas.

Beautiful vanilla. A little like the original vanilla oil from long ago. Some hints of it in this.

I used to be obsessed, so in love with this. I still love it very much but other perfumes have taken its place in my heart now. Nigritella threw me in the Hypnotic Poison EDT rabbit hole. You know, all these perfumes with a prominent combo of almond/white flowers/vanilla accords? And sometimes a licorice accord as well? I feel like they've been inspired by Hypnotic Poison EDT but I'm not sure. Anyways, Nigritella is definitely one of them. I 100% agree with @malindajoquinn. I would add that here, the licorice is queen, totally amped up. BUT... like many TBS perfumes, the longevity is tragically short! Why is that? I never understood why. TBS' perfumes are so elegant and well-rounded, it's a shame they're not long-lasting. On me (I spray on moisturized skin AND clothes), Nigritella lasts for... 30 mins? 1 hour max? I have a bottle that got to macerate for almost 2 years but it's still the same. What a shame. I'll be sad once I finish this bottle but at least it will make room for other HP spiritual childrens in my collection :) Edit 03/18/23: I feel like Lolitaland from Lolita Lempicka smells REALLY close to this one-- on paper, they have the same white flowers + licorice combo, I was astonished! I didn't try Lolitaland on skin to compare but on paper, longevity was waaaay better than Nigritella and the drydown was an addictive, scrumptious creamy vanilla. It may be a great replacement for Nigritella! Edit 03/24/23: Currently trying Lolitaland on skin, it's way more potent and bright than Nigritella. It feels more uplifting and tad bit medicinal to my nose--- in that sense it doesn't feel as sensual as Nigritella, but I still think they smell kind of similar.

Yes, this is The Body Shop's version of Hypnotic Poison. Bright gourmand vanilla with tuberose and a very specific rubbery note in the opening. I think this has a slight spiciness that HP doesn't have, but is a lighter scent all in all. The biggest difference is that this has no almond note listed and also doesn't smell like almond. I have never smelled the nigritella plant, so I can't compare this to the real thing, but it's a species of orchid and this perfume definitely has a powdery orchid overlay. Despite that I don't find it that similar to HP Eau Sensuelle, it reminds me more of the regular EDT. The Elixirs of Nature line by TBS is quite nice. I like Nigritella, Swietenia and especially Kahaia. At the moment they're on sale for 19€. I'm not sure if this means they're discontinued (hopefully not). If you love scents in the vein of Hypnotic Poison, you can't really go wrong with this at that price. Lasting power is good, too. Just one word of warning: Make sure you get a newer bottle and store it in a cool and dark place. Many vanilla fragrances only get better with age, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. I had once tried a tester which I assume stood out in the light too long, and it smelled like some cheap, crunchy-caramel-ish vanilla, completely different from what the testers in all the other stores smell like.

Love the philosophy of environmental protection behind this line and The Body Shop as a whole. I bought this recently as I was going through a slightly vanilla-obsessed period and the price was good. However, after a few wearings, I find this too similar to other sweet vanillas in my collection, like Sun di Gioia and Eau des Vanilliers by L'Occitane, which has the same dominant vanilla-orchid accord but is a little fresher. I find Nigritella comforting and slightly intriguing, but also a bit cloying. Although it's difficult to pick out the tuberose (as other reviewers have mentioned), it contributes a fleshy thickness, especially in the opening. I'm on the fence over whether to keep this, especially since I've sampled others in this line which fill more of a gap in my 'perfume wardrobe'.

This is a creamy rich yellow feeling floral vanilla. It smells exotic and makes me think of accounts in classic novel of travels to tropical islands. Rich and heady, but sweet, creamy and vanillic. A fragrance from when the Body Shop was great and good value. I don't even go in any longer, I gave up on their products, overpriced and ineffective, this would no longer be £18 but closer to £50 if it were still sold today and this is, what, 7 years on from when my bottle was made? I just finished it. RIP Body Shop as we all knew and loved it. Whatever you think of their sometimes somewhat shady operations during Anita and L'Oréal's time, they produced some great products. I loved the perfume oils and some of their other fragrances too.

Very nice scent - considering I can be quite touchy about vanilla, I like it. It feels very cosy, underneath the vanilla are sweet white florals with orchid vibes. A touch of baked goods even shows up at the midway point. In terms of performance it's a rather personal fragrance, it's a bit soft and not too long lasting. One that you might wear just to please yourself, on a cosy day, alone at home. As of right now it is still very much available at my local Body Shop store.

I've got off of Orchid Vanilla scents, maybe I have to get some time distance from it. Of the one I have this is the most complex, while the others I only get the super sweetness. Maybe I'm bored with vanilla, or my papillae that test sweet are supersensitive(the tip of my tongue is irritated from a long while) Or I'm getting so much sugar free that everything it's too sweet. The Orchid Vanilla has spoiled also my liking of patchouli...I think

I couldn’t smell any similarity to Dior HP. Quite strong and sweet to me. Luckily I didn’t pay $49 AUD for it; not worth for the price Updated: The bottle has sit in drawer for a while and today I decided to spray it again and my taste has changed. I really like this scent now. I still feel so lucky that I got this bottle on sale for less than half price.

No, not at all like Dior's HP ( which I cant wear, I'd notice immediately) But it is to mee a exact dupe of BlackOrchid and/or ( something in between) of Tuberose Criminelle. Dryer, slightly fresher and softer , lasting shorter, but VERY much like BlackOrchid. If u love THAT, u'll love this too.

Smells like hypnotic poison but without the play-doh effect. Lasts all day. Very sweet, softly floral, vibrant and fun to wear.

I really liked this on the blotter, along with Bowhanti (a bit like Jo Malone's Whisky & Cedarwood) and Kahaia (vacation-y, sunny, light, might get this one for the summer if it behaves wellnough e on my skin). So I got a tester of Nigritella to go, and sprayed it onto my wrist immediately. Sadly, on the skin it's kind of "meh" - linear sweet vanilla and tuberose, quite artificial-smelling, and also 2 hours later this scent was absolutely gone from my skin, which happens very rarely. I have Black Orchid and I don't think it smells similar.. BO is much more.. faceted?

Renewed text: Unisex, sweet scent. I call this "Old Indian Mystery Box", because it smells like an old wooden box, more or less. After forcing myself to wear this blind buy, I must say that it's more for men than for women. Scales lean towards manly, although there's also a sweet flower in the perfume.

I've been having very bad luck with TBS perfumes.This goes on similar to Vanille Noire by Yves Rocher and dries down to soap and orchid,boring,definitely not worth anywhere near the price tag it has,such a shame.

On me this smells like root beer. Oddly, I don't get any floral, particularly not white floral, just overly sweet root beer. This scent did not develop on me, but was very long lasting.

It is too sweet for me and is not longlasting at all.

A developing perfume. They who like an interesting fragrance with stages should try Nigritella. A small citrusy opening, inoffensive and not there, definitely doesn't settle, but that isn't bothering at all. What does develop fast is the orchid; a hypnotising, sultry, sensual orchid, almost edible. Now, it could be the blend of the vanilla that is making it so yummy, but you can definitely tell that it's a floral with delicious nuances and not food, at least yet. Enough sweet. A far better orchid than Flowerbomb's. After the orchid, you have a fleshy, fuzzy, sexy and definitely animalic note developing. People are complaining for no tuberose. Truly, no piercing tuberose in here, that is true. But the result is a fleshy orchid. So womanly. The perfume does turn sweeter, because of the vanilla. I wouldn't say that it turns gourmand, it's just a tad sweeter. The drydown consists of all the aforementioned notes. Also, I don't see any connection to Hypnotic Poison Dior. Maybe people mean the Eau Sensuelle version? That truly has a considerable amount of notes in common and even though I haven't given it a sniff yet, it seems to be the duped perfume. A yes from me

“What does the colour blue taste like?” That pretty much sums up a perfume review. Everyone will interpret differently and there’s no right or wrong answer. I decided that I can no longer support companies that engage in animal testing, so while I adore Dior’s Hypnotic Poison, it’s not cruelty free so I will never buy it again. I needed a dupe for it and was recommended the body shop’s Nigritella. I bought it blind as it’s discontinued. It’s interesting how you say “blind” for something you smell, not see. Anyway, if I were to describe this, I would say it resembles Lavanila’s Vanilla Coconut, only Lavanila’s has a nice floral opening. Lavanila’s dry down is what Nigritella reminds me of. There is something oddly plasticky and cloying to me. I love that it’s ecologically conscious but it really fell flat on my HP dupe expectations. This is nothing like HP, and I envy those who smell a similarity. There is nothing wrong with this juice, it just isn’t my kind of blue.

Found this for $9 at TJs today and bought it based on reviews here. It is pretty nice, I really like the lush white floral opening. I get plenty of tuberose on my skin. A heady, sensual blend, exotic even. It stays for quite a while but gradually the heady floral dissipates and after a few hours the scent has completely changed to a very clear vanilla. Just vanilla. Not bad, mind you, but a totally different scent than earlier. It was certainly worth the price I paid for it and I do like the general idea of the company and how these fragrances are eco-friendly. I’m not so sure I would be thrilled with it for $60 or whatever it was going for originally though.

There's a really cheese movie called Simply Irresistible from about 20 years ago. If you've never seen it, and need a ridiculous rom com fix, look it up. Have snacks ready! In it, the main character finds a magical ability to cook and bake, and when she makes magical things the room fills with steam. Throughout, she makes these little eclairs with flowers and caramel. People fall in love everywhere they're eaten and steam flies around. This perfume smells exactly how I imagine that dessert smelling. Warm, sweet and floral with just a happiness underlying. It's really nice. I had no idea the body shop had it in 'em.

I have been so lucky to have smelled more than once the real nigritella orchid, this perfume goes quite close to it, but misses the cocoa powder note of the real thing, a smell a bit like salted chocolate cookie dough, or a chocolaty pipe tobacco. This is just too vanilla/tunerose laden, but still getting there. I almost bought a bottle, out of homesickness, but I spritzed a bit on my wrist and 3 hours later I still smell cloying vanilla, similar to the vanilla in hypnotic poison, that is not my favourite... Too sweet for my taste.

Number 1 my fav perfume 🤍 its super sexy its good for tropical place like where i am , i fell in love with it 5 years ago when i first smells it from my guest and ask her what is she wearing and its the tbs nigritella and tooooooooooo sad and very disappointing they are discontinued 💔🥹 i cannot move on from this perfume please anyone who knows one that smells exactly like this one that are still available to purchase any brand lemme know 😗

I tried this today, because it said "orchid" on it which I love; sadly, nothing special, although it surprised me the scent was not as linear as I guessed it would be. The whole impression is too sweet and this reminds me very much of Black Musk by Body Shop (probably because it's the same style vanilla). For 43 Eur (that was the price in store) you can definitely get something better! Where's that NEUTRAL button?

Gorgeous. Soft, romantic, white floral. I get orchids aa well as a touch of tuberose and vanilla orchids. It's so cloying and soft yet classy. It honestly smells expensive reminiscent of something Tom Ford or Chanel would concoct. Beautiful. Reminds me, personally, of the exotic florals in Estee Lauders Beyond Paradise. Demure, refined, lovely and classy.

Tried it today. To my nose this is a replica of Hypnotic poison. Immediately after I sampled it, I went to find Dior counter in the mall and applied Hypnotic poison on the other had. I honestly was not able to find the difference. Obviously, there was some very tiny, tiny difference,almost undetectable, though.

If I was going to invent a Hypnotic Poison Summer perfume, it would smell something like this. Nigritella has the vanilla and cozy comfort that I’ve associated with HP, but in a sheer, citrus-lightened way. It’s amazing to me how warm yet light this fragrance is, and how genuine and non-abrasive it feels. Love!

Similar to Dior Hypnotic poison Eau Sensuelle...for the first 5 minutes! then it becomes a very soft vanilla-musk-jasmin combo with very poor sillage and longevity. Skin scent after 30 minutes. Very nice fragrance but the performance is so disapointing...

Ok, the opening is good but then it's all about vanilla. It is just a more interesting way to wear vanilla if you are into it. But don't expect any, repeat, any tuberose. It is nowhere to be found. Nope, not one of the best in this BS perfume line.

The beginning is very promising, maybe i feel a bit of cocoa and earthy notes, then vanilla is taking over and You get a smell similar to hyptotic poison, which i like but was expecting something more special

i LOVE the shower gel to this, since it pairs super nicely with my black orchid, but it is virtually impossible to find besides it occasionally popping up at my local tj maxx once in a blue moon.

Vanilla and orchid softly whispers across your skin when you spray it on. Doesn't last too long but it's a delicious scent, so comforting and sensual at the same time. Warms up a cold day I'd say
