White Musk Smoky Rose

White Musk Smoky Rose [EDT] is quite faithful to its name. It is a juicy black currant and peppery rose duo with a very subtle smoky incense nuance, enveloped by a white musk glow, which gives structure and rounds its character. Fruity roses are more than common these days and this one fits in that group. But what makes it stand out is not only its smoky edge, but also its price. It is incredibly cheap for what you get. Of course, you cannot expect great longevity with this price. But it is fairly decent and its sillage not disappointing. The Body Shop has some great perfumes for its price and some are much better than more expensive releases by well-known luxury brands (and White Musk Smoky Rose is one of TBS's bests). They are simple, nice and casual, but extremely well done and pleasing. And with that price, how can you say no?

In the year of 2015 I found myself very infatuated with the white musk line at the bodyshop. I decided to treat myself to smoky rose EDP at the end of the year. This smells like a "tough" version of a very sweet girly perfume. I can see how it's polarizing, maybe not sweet enough for the fruity/floral crowd, and not edgy enough for those who prefer the more exotic. However for me, it's perfect. I love the crisp musk, sweet jammy roses with hint of smoky spice. When I wear it I feel very well put together, the way a new stylish outfit makes you feel. As others have pointed out the quality isn't stellar, just ok. But, on the other hand it's cheap.

It’s once my signature scent, back then when i was younger. There’s a phase when i didn’t care for this at all, i have been in vintages mood in the past few years, and i thought that TBS Smoky Rose is like a girl pretending to be a woman. She is sweet and naive yet trying her best to be seen as sexy and mature. Oh wow i think i exaggerated it at this point. Pardon. But today, i just wanted to visit some nice memories resonated by smelling this perfume. I’m surprised, i’m loving it again. It’s sweet but owning its dark side. So rosy and smoky, and the black currant only made it more tempting and fun. So i would say it’s seductive yet still fun.

I'm so disappointed that this scent has been discontinued. It's not a year-round reach for me, but when the weather gets crisp, oh this is delicious. Smoky rose is an apt name. Both components are so well-done. The rose is plush and candied; the smoke is delicate and not overpowering or ashy. It just gives a bit of depth to the sweetness of the rose. The black currant gives a jammy richness. I'm not sure I smell the other notes--musk of course is laid down at the base like a soft blanket. I'm hoping to try Lancome Midnight Rose soon; perhaps it will come close to this one. Using sparingly because I don't want to be without it.

To be honest I didn't like this fragrance much at first. Musk has never been my favourite and before this I was kind of put off by darker spicier scents. Fortunately I decided to give it another chance and it grew on me in the biggest way. It's delicious without being very sweet and decadent without being overpowering. A revelation almost. Every time I use it my heart sinks for a second knowing that it's been discontinued and the 30ml bottle I received as a gift will eventually be empty. Truly a fragrance to revel in!

This is one of my first fragrances ever, so call me biased, but I feel like just about anyone would find this pleasant. It's soft and elegant. On first application, it's sweet roses, and incense. On dry down, the musk really shines through. It's subtle and lovely and complements the rose well. On me this lasts anytime between 6-7 hours, and usually still lingers until at least another hour. Sillage is admittedly not fantastic. At its best, the next person on the dinner table would barely be able to smell something.

I am starting to work at TBS, and I immediatly bought three bottles of this beautiful fragrance. It's now one of my very favorites of all time. A perfect contemporary blend between rose absolue (Yves rocher) and euphoria (CK) to me it's the perfect combo of a sultry, mature and yummy rose , with spicy incensy notes (probably the orange blossom?), the musk is there, but it simply makes a creamy feeling embracing all of the notes. and course, one of the very most important matters to me, it has a STUNNING LONGEVITY.

Oh how I love this dark, mysterious rose! To me it's a jammy rose with a deep tobacco underneath, a tiny bit spicy, a bit fruity, and it's a wonderful blend. Not smoky in the way of actual smoke. I feel really sexy wearing it! It's a good fit for wearing in the winter of fall. Nighttime for sure! I'm so sad it's disappearing from the stores where I live, I'm keeping an eye on the second-hand market for a backup!! The edt doesn't have great lasting power but I forgive it because the scent is AMAZING!

It is sweeter than I imagined.Opens with blackcurrant and pink pepper added the girl-next-door kind of sweetness. After a few minutes drying down, represented by the black rose and tobacco blossom, while the sweetness is inherited by the immortelle from the blackcurrant. With musk and Olibanum, the base note give this fragrance a thicker and warmer side. I didn't notice the orange blossom or bergamot to be honest, I assume they are sublimed by other stronger notes.

The Body Shop have truly outdone themselves this time. This scent is sexy and sultry without being ostentatious. However I feel calling it 'Smoky Rose' isn't quite right - for me personally, it's the blackcurrant that really catches my attention, but that's what I like about this perfume; fruity with a mature, 'don't mess with me' demeanour. Think Britney Spear's 'Midnight Fantasy' grown up. Sillage and staying power are satisfactory - around four hours.

This is by far the best perfume TBS has ever put out. A delicate rose reinforced with currant jam, then had all its sweetness cut by incense. There's a shadow of green florals (orange blossoms + tobacco flower) appears and vanishes between wisps of burnt sugar and smoke (immortelle?). A great shame that it's been discontinued. I only have a 100ml EdT, and would pay any price for a bottle of the parfum oil. Will we ever find another substitute?

I managed to get the EDP at a big discount from their site as it was being discontinued, now I'm sad I didn't buy more and stock up. It's a simple "less is more" perfume. They have taken a few heavy notes and blended them to make something special. It's a real gem and different to the carbon copy vanilla and florals the market is saturated with and it's such a pity they didn't add it, along with the poppy to the permanent line.

A lot of people said that this perfume symbolizes me very well. i fell in love with this perfume since one year ago. i have the 50ml EDP right now, when i apply it on my skin, well the silage is not very strong but it is very (musky scented) long-lasting than i apply it on my clothes. anyway, is this perfume really have very weak silage or is it because "different country, different quality" issue?

It's not just my favourite perfume from the Body Shop but it's one of my favourite perfumes ever! To me (and on me) it literally smells like a smoky rose and it's a warm and happy scent. The longevity is impressive (8 hours +) and so is the projection. It's sweet, I guess very sweet so don't go for it if you don't like sweet perfumes. I'll definitely buy another bottle!

This is a little smoky in the beginning, a bit musky. I do not find it rosy in any way. The drydown is very clean and well-behaved. This, to me,is along the lines of Valentina by Valentino, very ordinary but very pleasant and inoffensive. I find it to last quite well on my skin. Very modest sillage. I love to wear this one. To me it is comforting and warm.

This was my signature when I was 16. I loved it! I still have half a bottle of the body mist. I never use it anymore but I tested it the other day again and it is lovely! Very sweet, rosy, fruity and a bit smoky. It has a bit of a "dark" vibe in my opinion even if it is very sweet. It is actually very beautiful and it is a shame they discontinued it!

I just got this today and its much, much better than what I expected. I do not get a lot of rose but there is a deep, smoky, spicy sweetness to it which is incredibly sultry and a tad masculine. I get the pink pepper, black currant and tobaccco blossom the most and it smells bewitching! Definitely a winner from the body shop.

The name is perfect : rose, musk and something like incense. Delicate and lovely like a rose, warm like musk, daring like spices, mysterious like smoke. I love it ! I purchased the EDP and the fragrance mist : always a pleasure ! And correct lasting power. Good job again for TheBodyShop.

I adore this perfume. my sister got it for me for my birthday upon my request. its not very long lasting but smells so amazing I have bought the body mist and lotion to layer the fragrance. to describe it I would say, sweet, warm smoky flowery heaven

Other than black currant, I have difficulty picking out specific notes in this fragrance. I do not detect any smokiness. The rose is faint. It feels light, clean and fresh and comforting to wear. I really enjoy this as a daytime scent.

It starts a bit rough and grows nicely. Always get compliment whenever I wear this, day or night. It works well on warm weather without getting me nauseated or dizzy. Moderate longetivity and sillage.

Such a good smoky rose. Never smelt anything like it. It sweet, rosy and smoky and slightly spicy with a depth to it. Gorgeous but unfortunately unable to find any longer.

I'm a perfume newbie. I smell no rose, which is good for me. I HATE rosy-floral scents. What I perceive is very strong sweetness, but darkish. Burnt caramel and vanilla.

This was my signature fragrance, I have yet to find a perfume I like as much as this. It really is smoky rose. I wish they would bring it back :(

Bought it in 2018 as a Christmas gift for my mum. This was one of the very first perfumes that caught my attention back when I was still a college student. I would say, the name "smoky rose" is very fitting for this scent as the first notes that come in definitely smell like what a rose would smell like if it were burning incense, except we do away with the actual smoke. It's beautifully sultry and somewhat mysterious, ambery nightfall oriental scent in my opinion. best worn in cooler weather and at night, because of the warmth in this scent. The rose, blackcurrant, tobacco blossom and olibanum are what stands out to me the most. I can imagine it being like a veil of fragrant smoke as one walked down a darkened narrow street lit by Chinese lanterns somewhere along the veins of Georgetown, Penang, wearing one's red cheongsam feeling like a youthful but ageless femme fatale of sorts, smoking a kiseru pipe (I am not a smoker, but it's just the image). My imagination gets the better of me. As someone who hears music with certain scents, I actually hear the opening of コヒブミ by Ali Project when I smell this. Any scent that makes me hear music is a big go-to in my books. Back then I couldn't justify paying RM150 for myself as a student, so instead I bought the RM200+ set that came with the lotion and body wash as a Christmas gift for my mum, and while she's not much of a perfume person, I was happy she'd wear it for work most of the time. It's been about 4 years and she has 10ml left from the original 50ml bottle and still smells as beautiful as ever. I just found out it's been discontinued for a while now, and am actually very sad that TBS discontinued what I consider to have been their all-time best scent because it was no longer available when I started working. I cannot find anything that smells like this ever again, even Trésor Midnight Rose by Lancôme smells nothing like it (I find that one very generic), which is a crying shame because I want something that makes me hear the exact song I heard when I felt smelled it - the smoky, sultry, oriental rose. The closest vibe I've gotten is when I sampled Tenue de Soirée by Goutal, but without the smokiness, it lacks the oriental feel that I get from Smoky Rose that makes it special to me because that's what feels like home (the imagery I get of the old Chinese streets in parts of Malaysia in my mind) to me; Tenue de Soirée smells like a sultry evening, but somewhere overseas. I've read from one of the reviews here that Sunshine by Amouage smells something like this, and there's a tobacco blossom note which would give it a bit of smokiness, and while I haven't sampled Sunshine yet, part of me hopes it will be similar while part of me hopes it wouldn't be, so that I wouldn't have to fork out so much money just to catch a whiff of this scent again. If someone can direct me to something that smells absolutely similar to this discontinued scent, I'm open to suggestions. TBS, please bring this gem back.

I came across this perfume recently and decided to test it because the colour was so pretty and the bottle was kind of cute! The first thing that struck me about White Musk Smoky Rose when I tested it on my skin was that it reminded me of Tresor Midnight Rose, which I love. It smells more of berries though, and to my nose the rose is quite faint, and there definitely is a dustiness to this perfume, even a slight murky (slightly skanky!) smell at first but this disappears after awhile, leaving a very nice, alluring berry'ish scent. It's not as good as Tresor Midnight Rose, and lacks the freshness of that scent, but it is similar in some ways and potentially a much cheaper buy if I do decide to get myself a bottle! To me this was the best of the Body Shop White Musk range of perfumes, aside from Libertine which I quite liked and which is more fresh, clean and slightly soapy smelling. UPDATE: I still like this perfume but have discovered that although it comes in EDT and EDP, even the EDP doesn't have a lot of staying power and after a short'ish time I can barely smell this on myself at all, which is a bit of a disappointment! So, I might hesitate to buy a bottle of it, even though it's fairly reasonably priced, but I'll see. Never say never ! !

This review is based on EDP concentration. White Musk Smoky Rose opens with some black currants and some other fruits. A few minutes later, it settles into a velvety concoction of rose, smoke and immortelle. There isn't any greenness of the rose. It's all about the sweetness of rose flower. The smoke and the immortelle mixed within the sweet rose, creates an effect almost like salty caramel to me, consoling, but inedible. I didn't notice that much musk until after about 5 hours, when the smoky rose starts to mellow. The later part is a balance between the musk and the smoky rose. The sillage is close to the skin start to finish, but maintains a certain intensity. The longevity is quite good on me, for about 9 hours. I agree with previous reviewers that the name Smoky Rose describes the fragrance pretty accurately. While it's not a scent of complexity, it certainly brings me a lot of comfort. It's quite a thrill considering the price. I'd recommend it as a lovely no-brainer everyday fragrance with some gentle oriental elements.

It reminds me of something sweet and mysterious from the nineties that I can't place. I get black current and rose enhanced by pink pepper as well as something close to caramel. It's a little bit smoky (tobacco blossom and olibanum) which, along with the rose, makes me think masquerade. It creates a dry-ice enigmatic fog kind of smoky atmosphere as opposed to heady incense one. It's slightly resinous and spicy which blends perfectly with it's sweeter aspects. It is indeed plum in colour and rather airy. The rose, berry and musk are the stars. It's soft and graceful but not really dark and intoxicating. It's somewhat charming and illusive with a dash of sultry. It's lingers and trails. It's quite warm and cosy but clean as well. At times it has a slightly soapy aspect. It becomes almost powdery and vanillic when it dries down. The musk shines as the base and whispers throughout the composition. It has low to medium sillage but after an hour or so hours it settles into a skin-scent and lasts for about 4 hours.

I really, really love this little scent. Let me apologize in advance for this comparison, but I bought Smoky Rose when I had been on the hunt for something similar (and much much cheaper) than Amouage Sunshine, before I broke down and bought a bottle. Smoky Rose and Sunshine do share a few of the same notes, and while this is *nowhere* near Amouage territory (quality and scent wise), it sort of gives off a similar, sweet black currant, tobacco-y vibe. However, the key role player in Smoky Rose is the Rose and, while it's not boring, it's ultimately a typical, modern, easy to wear, sweet jammy rose scent. While the feel is dense, the scent is very light. Almost wine-like. It's easy for everyday wear and completely inoffensive. Longevity is 4-6 hours, and it sits close on skin. I also, respectfully, have to disagree with the smoked salmon comparisons, just as I'm sure many will disagree with me. But that nearly made me not purchase it. Review for EDP. The EDT was way boring and lasted about a minute.

This review is for the oil. --- On my skin, this is a soft dark berries jam with something smoky which is not tobacco. Instead, it oscillates between burnt sugar / bitter caramel and wood smoke. Occasionally I am able to smell the incense and, very very hidden, flowers, maybe rose. And musk, not in the front as in White Musk, but supporting the other notes. The oil has very little projection / sillage, which for me is a good thing. This smoky berry jam is, when mixed with my skin heat, intimate and feminine without being childish, and I prefer not to have a cloud of that scent around me, instead only radiating to those who I allow close to my skin, family and friends. I am very happy to have found a berry jam perfume which is not excessively sweet or sticky. This one reminds me a bit of the Petit Robe Noire , but smokier and maybe using blueberries instead of cherry. I bought this oil with 50% discount and am quite happy as it fills quite nicely my wish for a sexy but mature berry scent. :)

Update: after about a week, this went from my "have" shelf to my "had" shelf. It turned out to just be way too sweet and I returned it. I still like the fragrance, but yeah. Not on me. Better luck next time, I guess. I think this is the one "very sweet" fragrance I've smelled in a long time that didn't make me either recoil or run outside for fresh air. Normally I feel a bit headache-y or nauseous after smelling something so sweet, but somehow I really like this fragrance. Certainly not an every day smell for me, but it's nice enough for chilly days and you can't beat the price. I picked this up on sale for about $10 last week! I do find this quite warm and comforting, which I think is why I've been wearing it on particularly cold days. I certainly smell the rose and musk, and spice as well. Longevity is decent, I get a few hours out of it on my skin and 5-6 hours on clothes. Overall it's a pretty good fragrance for a cold winter day, and for the price you won't find anything better. Win!

You have a cherry spicy oriental opening, very promising. It tames into a cherry-like rose, which is very pleasant and pretty. Seems linear and disappointing, as you start thinking...."where is the smoky part?". And right there where you already are convinced about the girlyness of the perfume, there comes a nice dose of smokiness, a deepening of the scent; some mysterious veil of a soft, but present nonetheless, church-leftover incense; has to be the olibanum. I like this iteration of rose, it's interesting. Plus I'm a sucker for anything balsamic. Very nice combination of notes. Longevity is up to 3 hours(?) maybe less...That might be an issue for an amount of customers, and even though for me it's not; if I like it I will reapply, still, the intensity of the scent is not enough for me to buy it. Simply, if I don't stick my nose on my wrists I don't smell anything... That's just wrong policy Body Shop. Amp up the sillage and Smoky Rose competes, dare I say, with niche.

weird that I haven't reviewed this I guess for a long time this sat in the back of my perfume collection forgotten over the last few years back in 2016-2018 I ran through body mist bottles of this and probably used up like 4 of those and then I got this EDT around then and wanted to save it but then, my perfume hobby grew, I got other stuff, Body Shop became and felt mediocre and this was long forgotten now ive finally pulled this bottle out and have half of it left I definitely dont love it like I used to but I still like it my taste has changed quite a bit since and now I regularly update my collection so I'm just using this up as as a long time memory thing and then will say goodbye to it forever. I think this was (and will remain) the last thing I ever bought from the body shop. I remember how obsessed I was with this scent piss poor performance, skin scent, nice for pleasant days indoor, a classic smell at this point.

My mom has a bottle of WM Smoky Rose EdT. The first time she wore it, I thought she had Hot Couture EdP on (which she also owns), the sillage emitted are quite similar (the same sweet/tangy/peppery/musky scent cloud). Upon closer sniffing I realize they are different, WM Smoky Rose is a musky, smoky, sweet berried-rose, not as dry and woody as Hot Couture, Hot Couture being more sophisticated and elegant, and WM Smoky Rose more casual and candied (+ rosier), also Smoky Rose has a slight eastern vibe to it because of the frankincense + rose combo. Not really my thing. But not bad, quite nice. If you like Hot Couture edp, you will like Smoky Rose, it's her younger, more casual bohemian sister. Longevity is moderate on me (~ 5 hours, good for an edt), sillage is very noticeable for the first hour then fades gradually to a skin scent. I personally prefer White Musk Libertine.

This perfume is exactly what it says, a smoky rose. The notes are so well blended that it smells like a nice concoction of rose, blackberry, vanilla, and incense. It has a grape-y quality- jammy quality to it- like crushed berries. The sillage is very close to the skin after the first 20 minutes, however, so you may need to carry the small bottle with you to reapply. Don't overspray at first, however, because this perfume packs a powerful punch. I got complimented the first time I wore it. I don't know what the EDT smells like in comparison, so I cannot rate it to that. The Body Shop limited edition white musk flankers are fantastic and I'm sorry I haven't been buying more. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the lack of sillage after the first 20 minutes. Smoky Rose is now one of my favorite perfumes of all time.

This smells really good. Incense, musk, rose, sweet mixed berry jam, smoky. I think its best used for the cold months. I have noticed a few times when I wore it I felt like I was getting too much of the smoky aroma. So I decided if I didn't want to feel like I was sitting next to a fireplace in front of a rose bouquet being served warm berry pie to just wear this puppy in the winter. I have received compliments, but its just not something I could wear everyday. Its a smell better suited to an expensive scented candle. But it was inexpensive clearance Christmas set from a discount shop so for the price I'm happy to have it among my stash. I usually am very fond of whatever the body shop produces scent wise.

I have a real penchant for dirty rose scents but it's been a struggle for me to find one that's right for me and that suits my skin. Agent Provocateur, the ultimate dirty rose, smelt terrible on me. Up until now, the best has been Jo Malone's Velvet Rose and Oud, but it's horribly pricy considering the sillage and longevity are so low. White Musk Smoky Rose is absolutely what I've been searching for. Warm, cosy, smoky, sweet. No smell of curry (AP), no sourness (AP and MP). Great value for money. I just wish the Body Shop would do a body butter in this fragrance so I could immerse myself in it. Don't discontinue BS please!! (And bring back Fuzzy Peach, Woody Sandalwood and Cassis Rose while you're at it)

White Musk Smoky Rose typically opens quite ashy to me, almost musty, like it's starting to turn. But then the ash thins out to smoke, and reveals a jammy rose. The fragrance ultimately settles into a smoky rose, with a musky touch, as the name implies. The opening is almost a deal-breaker for me, for while I love smoky scents, it is starts out more ashtray than smoke. Thankfully though, it doesn't last long and the remaining incensey rose is lovely. However, I'm still undecided if this is a keeper, because I find this much more wearable in cooler weather, I find it little too thick to wear in the heat, and I live in a tropical country. I rarely find myself reaching for this.

Is there a fragrance for happy vampires on summer holiday? White musk smoky rose is a nighttime scent, full of starlight. The EDT starts with a blast of raspberry and then tobacco, rose and immortelle make an appearance. Immortelle is usually very strong on my skin, but in this composition it gives an earthy dryness, the smell of a mediterranean island at night. This perfume is strange indeed and far from boring. I like the smell very much, one could say that it's a cousin of Tresor midnight rose because of the top notes and the theme. The only con I can find is that it's very light. Thankfully I bought the travel size of 10 ml. Maybe I should try the EDP?

The musk is in the center here but I can also feel the rose, the tobaccoflower and the pepper (smoky rose is a perfect name). The other notes are hidden to my nose. It's like lighting a scented candle and then smell it when it goes out and the candle wax has cooled a bit , a faint but pleasant rose scent. After about an hour the scent is like a veil on the skin, very close. I don ́t think it's good to spray too much of this perfume in just one place on the body, rather a small amount, but in 3-4 places. I didn ́t like this fragrance the first time I tried but it ́s growing a lot. Recommend that you try before buying.

This review is for the EdP. "Smoky" is a somewhat deceptive descriptor. Though there lurks a dark tobacco note in the drydown, it's not what I'd call "smoky." A more accurate name might be "Pipe Tobacco Berry Rose Jam" (doesn't really have the same ring to it, I obviously have no future in a fragrance-naming career). Very jammy and sweet, but, again, with that lurking tobacco musky darkness to give it depth. I'm not a huge fan of sweetness in fragrances, but this one, I can appreciate. Sits close and cozy to the skin. This is a blush pink, over-sized cashmere sweater, worn with a lot of smudged eyeliner.

Interesting how many different things people have said about this one. To me, the rose is surprisingly un-prominent in the mix. I sometimes find rose-based perfumes a bit "sharp" and janglingly intrusive but to me the most obvious note in this one is something spicy, I would have said possibly cloves but they're not listed in the official description. There's autumn fruit in the mix too and a sort of musky depth that I find quite appealing. It doesn't change much over several hours. I think I will be buying some of this fairly soon as it might just finally be the spicy perfume that actually suits me.

On paper I shouldn't like this. I was given it as a gift years ago, and immediately dismissed it as I don't like smoky flavours at all, they tend to make me feel ill and remind me of BBQ. However, even though this scent's smoky note is very noticeable, I guess it is well balanced with sweetness? Because even though I don't often wear it and don't think it suits me, I really am fond of it. It's distinctive and compelling. I could easily imagine it becoming sickly, nauseating or headache inducing if over-sprayed so I just spritz it once, in my room or on my bedsheets and I find it cosy and comforting.

I really love this fragrance. Such a great little gem for very little money. Sugary sweet fruits are what I get most of, with a middle of rose and base with white musk that keeps you from getting a toothache. Really pretty and girly. I went through a bottle of this rather quickly because it's such an easy scent to choose when you don't want to have to think about it much; just throw it on and you're out the door smelling very pleasant and femme. To me, it's almost identical to Lancome Tresor Midnight Rose but without quite as much lasting power. Great budget buy if you enjoy that one.

I have a travel sized eau de toilette of this, and it's nice but too weak for my taste. It's what the name promises, sweet rose in a bed of that familiar Body Shop brand of clean musk. It's very soft and pleasant, and I like it, but although I used five sprays on my neck and wrists this morning (which is more than double what I usually do) I have to sniff my wrist pretty closely to smell it at all, and it's only been a couple of hours. If there's an edp I might like that one better, but as it is I think that travel spray will last me a lifetime.
