White Musk

This is the scent of high school. I was gifted the body lotion and shower gel – my school would end around lunchtime in a hot and humid country. I’d come home, shower. This reminds me of new beginnings at that time of life when you’re young and ready to conquer everything, full of energy, optimistic, happy. It’s the smell of being freshly showered and ready, to take on the world. I never owned the Fragrance back then. Every now and then as an adult I go into the store and spray it, and am taken back in time. My next shopping trip, I will definitely buy the EDP for myself – I can see myself showering myself in this fragrance early morning when I want to feel energetic and remember that positive outlook are used to have as a teenager. In terms of the fragrance being watered down – I can’t comment to that since I never owned the fragrance itself. But it definitely reminds me of the shower gel. On my skin, this is just like soap – the Aldehydes are extremely prominent, The musk is not too buttery. To my nose, it smells like shower gel. I can’t imagine it offending anyone, you could wear this in almost any situation, and even in extremely crowded places. I don’t think it’s particularly crowd pleasing though, I asked my husband what he thought and he wasn’t impressed. My kids weren’t overly impressed either. It’s not particularly “me” either, other than having that shower fresh Vibe – which is why I haven’t purchased it till yet, they really are amazing fragrances out there that are worth owning. But I will own and use it due to nostalgia :)

A boyfriend purchased a tiny bottle of this oil for me, when we were at a Body Shoppe store in New York city almost 12 years ago, on a hot June afternoon after we had been walking around Manhattan. All because I had smelled this wonderful scent on a female passerby earlier and had asked her what she was wearing. That bottle - tiny, 1.5 inches tall, clear glass, vanilla colored oil, black carved cap, black art nouveau label and graphic sticker on the front - still sits on my vanity and still smells utterly "New York 2003" to me and probably will forever. :) Fragrant enough to detect on someone else, clearly; slightly bohemian, but chic - I could see this being some fabulous East Coast Moneyed socialite's secret weapon fragrance. Somehow earthy, transportive, beckoning, restrained, and dignified all in one, and though it is a musk, it stands well on its own; not one I'd blend with another fragrance (like PDC Skin Musk, another favorite, which wears fabulous alone but deepens and heightens many a fellow fragrance). However, I may read an amazing review about such blending by a fellow Fragrantican, in which case, I reserve the right to change my mind ;) This fragrance speaks to me mostly of summer evenings, emerging from steamy showers with freshly scrubbed, clean, tan skin; upswept hair on damp necks with loose tendrils, and strappy black dresses, silver and sandals. Sexy, heady, and fun.

So I’ve been using this on and off since the 90s, and wanted to write another review on this, based on the reformulation. The Body Shop is giving the removal of seedlac, which is not a Vegan ingredient, as the reason for the reformulation. But I believe it was because of the removal of the fixatives Lilial & Lyral, due to new EU perfume regulations around 5 years ago, that caused the scent change. However, I have a late 90s White Musk EDT, a 2018 perfume oil, and a 2024 body mist, and the late 90s EDT and 2024 body mist smell most like each other. The 2018 perfume oil is actually the odd man out, with a sharper opening. I actually think they did a good job getting this, and the vanilla, closer to how they smelled in the 90s The 2018 Body Shop White Musk smells closer to Body Fantasies White Musk, with a slightly sharper opening than the 90s & 2024 versions. Fresh & Pretty White Musk, also owned by Parfums de Coeur like Body Fantasies, also smells similar to the 90s Body Shop White Musk. The opening isn’t as “sharp” as the Body Fantasies & 2018 Body Shop White Musk. I have all of these, and have been comparing. As far as longevity, I sprayed the Body Shop 2024 body mist on my wrists last night, and could still smell it in the morning. I actually can with all of these. Maybe it’s not quite as long lasting as the 2018 oil, but it’s really not bad.

This review is for EDT - White Musk The Body Shop. This summer I tried Body Fantasies White Musk first. Though it is a nice and clean musk, it is very harsh at first 10 minutes ut then fades away quickly. Following the reviews here, I decided to try TBS White Musk this time. I purchased a 30 ml bottle of EDT, the very new minimalistic bottle. It looks genderless but gives a clean feeling and the cap is very cute. I found TBS White Musk well blended but very light. Does not stay on skin but somehow sticks on clothes. I can feel the scent all day after a few spritz. There is a looong list of notes but all I can smell is a clean musk. I found it better than Jovan Musk which I could not use previously because of some stinky notes. Hard to explain but Jovan Musk did not stay clean on my skin. TBS White Musk does. It relaxes me and lifts my mood. It is good for everyday use, for work, for a weekend outside; but for sure it wont work for a night out, not that strong. The bottle is genderless as I mentioned, and the scent itself can be determined as unisex as well. Anyone confident can carry this perfectly I think. Some may find it more on the female side but this scent is something beyond a perfume, it is like a tattoo, something which happens to be a part of you. I love it.

My most returned to scent and the first fragrance I ever owned. I visited The Body Shop, finally trying the latest formula. I was pleasantly surprised. I only tried the oil and EDT so far as I couldn't find the EDP in store! I've purchased the latest edt, body lotion, shower gel and body spray. 🖤🖤🖤 Hey, editing to ask a question. Have any of you tried the new EDP? I went to the store to test it and they had no tester. The staff member said there's no difference anymore between the versions, that they are just in order of STRENGTH only. Oil being strongest. I've purchased a mini roll on of the oil to use before bed. But I was wondering if this is true? They really changed the EDP so much that it's just simply a stronger variant of the EDT nowadays? Or was this staff member ill-informed (or nose-dead)? Edit to say, the hell did the do to the ingredients in the shower gel? It used to contain honey and stuff, now it contains nothing good at all, I'm not touching the stuff...

Il muschio bianco del body shop dal 1981 quando è stato lanciato, è stato modificato almeno 4 volte. L'olio negli anni 80 era più verde e fresco all'inizio,puro,freddo e con un cuore vanigliato. Negli anni 90 era più fruttato e molto tagliente,potente e durevole,con le sue note caratteristiche scintillanti. Poi ne ho altre due versioni molto più vicine al 2000 /2010 che sono vellutate e lattiginose,una del 2019 diversa da queste che unisce un aspetto latteo e cremoso al tipico freddo scontillante del white musk. E' un profumo molto più ricco ed elaborato di quanto si possa pensare, quando lo sentivo negli anni 80 e 90 avevo usa sensazione meravigliosa di tanti puntini colorati, tanti fiorellini minuscoli,scintille che si spargevano nell'aria attorno a chi lo indossava. Naturalmente sensuale,seducente,pulito ma non innocente,con un sottofondo scuro e caldo di patchouli intenso e un muschio di quercia naturale particolare.

oh the memories this scent gives me. this used to be my signature fragrance back in high school when my mom gave it to me as a birthday gift. such a light airy fragrance (my skin but better type of stuff). whenever i saw my crush, i would spray on a little more of this because i thought it would grab his attention since it was the first scent that i truly loved and i thought that this was enough to catch people's attention (trust me it isn't but its a lovely scent). ever since i started wearing this scent around him, he would be nicer to me for some reason until we got closer and finally told me that he actually liked this scent on me. we were a thing for a while but what do you expect from a puppy love back in high school haha! its just nice to reminisce about these things when we were truly happy. also idk if this still has the same notes it had from back then now that it's vegan. haven't tried this for years already.

Randomly testing this EDP at The Body Shop four years ago was probably one of the best discoveries I have ever made. I'm not mush of a perfume person, since to me, many perfumes smell overbearing accompanied by a headache, but this one just smelled so soft, clean and comforting. I returned to the store but opted to buy the perfume oil as I wanted something free from alcohol. I find that the scent is intimate (which I actually prefer), and I cannot smell it after a couple hours, however others around me can smell it for couple more hours. Despite that, White Musk has become my signature scent and the only perfume I have owned and actually enjoyed for the past four years! I have heard that The Body Shop is working to "veganify" all their products. I hope any reformulations will not significantly affect the quality of this scent.

I've loved this perfume and have been wearing it since my High School days. My beautiful mother also used to wear this occasionally. I have recently restocked on everything from the shower gel, body lotion, Eau de Parfum, Body Mist and Perfume Oil. This fragrance needs to be layered for it to have any chance of lasting. It is such a gorgeous scent, hard to describe, the musk is the stand out note but I can't make out a particular floral, I think it is the combination of flowers in the formulation that makes this scent so iconic. This is the ONLY floral perfume that I adore, and it is my most complimented perfume. I'm mostly a fruity gourmand/vanilla lover but this perfume has captured my heart and soul. Soothing, pretty and nostalgic, just perfect. It will always be in my collection from now on.

White Musk for me is the epitome of elegance and class. Smelling clean is sexy. When you wear this perfume it invites you like a hug. You get so many compliments and everybody wants to know what you are wearing and they always expect a secret niche perfume. No! It is Body Shop and it is the original White Musk. After trying many different perfumes over the years and trying to find the best perfumes among designer and niche perfume houses, I always come back to this. Sometimes, you just want to go back to your beloved best friend that is not playing hard to get. Sometimes, you need your White Musk that never disappoints you and stays with you until the night, reads you a bedtime story. It is my own once upon a time and my happy ending. You know that everything is going to be just fine ☺️

I have all the original three variants the oil, edp and mist. All three are unbelievably strong and beautiful. I haven't tried the new vegan version but I fear they may have just botched it. The ogs in all three forms were stunning and I can understand that why 10 or more years ago why I got all three together. So glad that I still have some of the original juice of all three left to cherish. It's floral and powdery taking the best of Chanel(n°5,19,1957) Dior(New look 1947) and Guerlain (l'heure blue, samsara) yet ever so humble. It's of a bygone Era. This is old is gold kind of vintage. Very underrated. For that matter no perfumes available in the market deserve to be priced higher than this but then again I guess the new vegan versions have been messed with and messed up.

I have an OG round clear bottle with a black top from when I used to work at TBS in the mid 90’s. I remember being recoiled by this scent at first, then being inexplicably drawn to it. I’m wearing it today for the first time in years (my bottle is half full). Wearing it now I see how this floral musk has a lot in common with Nemat Amber Musk and Kiehl’s Original Musk. They really are not far off, so if you’re dying to experience this again in its original form (not sure if you can still get this in oil form), I would definitely try those two. It’s a sweet ambery-earthy musk with floral hints. It’s got all the heavy lifters like olibanum, patch, vetiver, oak moss that make it really grounded. This sucker lasts! I’ll always love it.

I LOVE this! Not only it smells amazing -I have the oil version- but it’s so comforting and takes me back to the 90s when my aunt would take my cousin and me to bodyshop and buy us white musk and clear lip glosses! Ah! Those were the times! I bought it again a few days ago, after many years, and I honestly can’t stop smelling my wrists! I’m wearing it day and night, even in bed, which I would normally never do as I don’t like smelling a perfume when I’m in bed. I was honestly scared to order it online as I heard so many negative things about the reformulation, and since I don’t have a bodyshop near me, I couldn’t give it a smell, but I’m not regretting my purchase in the least! It’s worth buying even if just for the vibes!

If you think the EDP is good, wait until you own the perfume oil. And try to find the ones in the original bottle before it was reformulated for the full experience. This is what I call a versatile perfume. 12 years ago I smell this fragrance on my female high school friend and I.. am.. OBSESSED. I was a shy girl and had no courage of asking what the perfume she was wearing. So back then, everyday, I waited for her at the front gate of the school just to take a whiff and a sniff. Weird, I know. But that was what The Body Shop's White Musk do to a human, it made you a simp and an addict. It's a classic, familiar smell, clean, and sexy. Skin-like smell. Whatever occasion it is, white musk will be perfect for you.

This is still hands down the best musk fragrance I have tried to date, nothing compares to it! but of course I tam talking about the original Body Shop White Musk, the reformulated, vegan.version.is a shadow of its former self. In fact it doesn't even resemble the older one and I don't like it at all. Luckily you can often find it on eBay. Look for the purple bottle above. The original fragrance mist is just as gorgeous This is such a light, fresh, clean, dreamy and sensual scent. It's like your skin but better. It projects very well and leaves a noticeable, sexy trail behind you. Most definitely a complement getter. If you haven't ever tried this one, you are missing out.

This is an old favorite. No fuss scent that always smells good on me. I still have a small bottle of the original before it was reformulated but I don't think I can justify buying an overpriced one on eBay just to get that old scent back. This is nice on its own but especially great for layering when you want to make super fruity or floral scents more sensual. When my original runs out I will just have Sue over at Somethin' Special whip this up for me. She has succeeded in acquiring for me Bath and Body Works discontinued Lavender Chamomile as well as their Vanilla Noir and both were great. With any luck she can do this one for me as well.

I notice that the representative image up top has been altered to reflect the version prior to the new formula/design. May I please suggest a new review page for the new vegan version be put up on here to avoid confusion between reviews of these earlier formulas (which did actually smell alike, in their varying strengths and concentrations,) and the current, latest formula (onwards, henceforth) which has been formulated to be vegan and is not in-keeping with the scent profile of the earlier versions.... Surely there should be another page to represent the newer, vegan version?

This perfume made me started the official fragrance journey. I have the EDT, I crave for EDP! & its no more. The edt has zero sillage, no longevity but i still ADORE it & will always will ! I am a MUSK lover. Its such a clean, elegant, hugging scent i cant describe. Cheap but very memorable to me. I wish i had the EDP ! I have that non vegan iris color bottle. Its very skin scent and very sensual if you smell on skin directly. Its sensual in the most vanila way, most innocent way! feels like a poetry from romantic era. It leaves me wanting MORE!

Bought it on a whim today. When I sniffed it in The Body Shop it immediately transported me back to 1987. I do not have the original version, but I wore it for years and years back then, and the newest version evoked the same feelings in me. It is immediately recognizable, and while I do believe the previous reviewers that the original is better, this one does the trick for me just as well. I plan to use it as bedtime scent / pillow mist. Wonderfully warm, fuzzy, enveloping, comforting, calming little beauty.

I never had the original formula from back in the day, but this newer formulation smells exactly like Juliette Has A Gun Musc Invisible and Jovan White Musk. I am definitely a fan of this DNA. The body wash was a miss for me though. Something about it smelled off. So I sent it back. I have the EDT so the longevity is so-so. They were out of the EDP. I’m told that the EDP has a much longer longevity. I would say if you like the white musk DNA then you will like this fragrance. Pretty safe blind buy.

I like musky fragrances and I started using this one few years back. It's warm & cosy like snuggling someone close by a borne fire. It used to be my go to winter perfume. It stays long and is noticable. But musky perfumes are not everyone's cup of tea. It needs an acquired taste. Even with this one, it grew on me quickly. Not gonna lie, it makes me feel warm just by how it smells on me even in the cold. No risk winter perfume. Also, it is a bit sensual in nature. Good to wear in intimate settings.

This was my first white musk and the benchmark by which I judge all white musks. It's clean, but not in a detergent-like way. Very soft and "rounded" without being powdery. It's a smooth, sweet skin fragrance. It had pretty good projection and lasting power, but I used to wear the fragrance 30 years ago. I used up that bottle and haven't repurchased recently, so the formulation has likely changed. I've tried Jovan's, which is very similar, but smells a little "thinner" and screechy.

This is such a beautiful, clean, fresh yet sweet musk. I can't get it out of my head, it isn't too heavy or cloying and melts into your skin. On me it doesn't seem to last more than maybe 6 hours, but by the time it reaches that point it has become a beautiful intimate skin scent. I would definitely like to get a bottle of this - it's fresh without being sharp and sweet without being synthetic and really does the whole 'your skin but better' thing well.

a truly beautiful scent. some may say it smells like sweat or piss, but not at all to this wonderful nose of mine. It gives me such beautiful memories, nothing beats the body shop's red musk but this is as close as it can get. fuck you the body shop for discontinuing red musk. I will boycott f they also discontinue this gem. Edit: sum girl said it smells like sewage water. she does not have a wonderful nose like mine. Everyone loves it on me.

One of my first perfumes, revisiting now. I bought it because I read it was Liv Tyler's signature scent when LOTR was doing press. Anyways, this is a simple but addictive musk. It wears very close to the skin and really smells like a skin scent to me. Very warm and soft but sensual and the tiniest bit animalic. It's sexy but inoffensive. I could imagine it layering well. Where to wear: in your twin sized childhood bed, fantasizing about Arwen

This perfume stands as one of the best musk based fragrances out there. It far surpasses musky designer fragrances. It begins with a lovely floral note, and then sort of settles down into this amazing musky fragrance that interacts really well with your personal body chemistry. It is one of the most complimented fragrances, and also one of the most unique. Can’t go wrong with body shop white musk, and the reasonable price is a great perk!

Very comforting and sleep friendly! I prefer the body mist version over EDT which I find overpowering. update: after two months, I found myself reaching to it less and less. Its animalic drydown frowns me more and more. I decided to give it away to a guy and he loves it! I realized it's actually more masculine and not so much for me. I sampled it while having a cold, so it seemed to be softer than it actually is.

This is a my signature scent despite all the reformulations. Just wish it lasted longer and was stronger. The newer packaging one is very weak, I've tried all formulations: edt, edp, mist and the oil. The lotions and cream are weaker. Nevertheless just love the scent. It is my favourite white musk ever. Next comes Jovan white musk. I have an older bottle and that is potent in comparison.

This is just divine. I absolutely adore this perfume with a passion. It’s gorgeous. If it was edible, I’d eat it. However it is so very weak. I have the Eau de toilette, Eau de parfum and the perfume oil. I spray all three at once in copious amounts. I’ve never had a compliment on this perfume because nobody can ever smell it. I don’t mind, I wear it for myself. It’s so damn lovely.

This is a dream ☁️ Smells like baby powder, clean skin, fresh laundry, baby lotion (Johnson’s bedtime lotion). It’s a clean scent but not super soapy like Amazing Grace by Philosophy Very soft, gentle. Like your skin but better. Reminds me of a baby perfume I had when I was very little (it had Tom kitten on the front). Quite intimate smell. Not very strong.

The original that my generation wore in the nineties was absolutely stunning, sexy, floral, animalic and artfully composed. One of my top five perfumes of all time that was pleasing to all. The Body Shop used to have awesome products but the last time I tried something in the 2010's I decided my Body Shop days were over. The brand lost it's magic.

It's not the sharp, soapy musk. It's the buttery your skin but oh - so much better. I can strangely feel the peach skin so vividly on my skin. The waxy lily really makes people think that you literally sweat perfume. Oh how sensual. How cozy. How heart-warming. Fill me a bathtub with it. Price does not pay (hehe) a role! I want it! I need it!

If we're talking about the Body Shop perfume oils from the 1990's and early 2000's then this white musk was glorious as were fuzzy peach, strawberry, etc. Last time I tried a perfume there about five years ago it had next to no concentration and the texture of the lotion was garbage. They used to carry phenomenal products for a good price.

I first smelled the Body Shop’s White Musk oil in the late ‘80’s/early ‘90’s. It was love at first sniff. I wore it all through junior high and high school. I recently re-purchased the oil. It is the same high quality scent as it was decades ago. It is great by itself or layered with other fragrances. White musk is iconic and timeless.

I was sat in a class and kept smelling a nice fragrance. It was a very feel good smell, like when somebody gets out of a shower. I thought it might be a violet smell. I worked out that it was coming from a woman next to me and asked what she had on, and was surprised that she said The Body Shop, White Musk. I'm going to buy some now.

If I want to smell clean but have an intimate edge, this is for you! I personally love it, I have worn it in the daytime and nighttime and in all weather and seasons, I have a 90s-2010s bottle, and I detect a slight reformulation, but nothing too too different. The longevity is quite poor but I don't really mind reapplying often

Old formulation - My only perfume for 10+ years. It was so beautiful. I've been saving up the last 2ml of it that I have. New formulation - I hate that they did this. It smells so watered down. It used to stay on me for 8+ hours, but this new one does not stay as long. If you can still grab the old formulation, buy that instead.

This was my high school scent, I wore it on my wrists and it soaked into the fabric strap of my watch. My boyfriend at the time stole my watch because he loved the smell so much. His friend stole it off him because he loved it too. I miss that watch. I miss this scent. Might buy a bottle for old times sake.

I cannot agree more with fragrancefatale below. The reformulation is so disappointing in terms of longevity as it smells lovely. The body mist is gone within a couple of hours and i am being generous here. The lotion is also so much weaker. Better to stock up on the older versions.

surprisingly, among all the forms of TBS White Musk, roll on has the best performance. It is easy to apply and leaves a nice trail everytime I apply and makes me feel happy and confident. No need to bargain on EDP, EDT or the perfume oil. Use the roll on, that is the best.

This scent is so nostalgic for me. It reminds me of my teenage years. This and Jovan Musk were very popular during the 80's. This is still great today and I love it! A soft, clean, and delicate floral musk. Perfect for every day. Perfect for any season. A classic musk!

I'm not a perfume expert and have never compared it to other musk fragrances so my opinion is not particularly well informed. That said: I love it. Only in the winter though, and maybe more for the evening than for daytime. I think it's quite a seductive scent.

it smells so sour like all musk at initial spray. then the dry down hits and it's like i'm wrapped in crisp white sheets straight out the laundry after using my favourite detergent. it's like soapy and soft and so nice. i love it. but not the inital spray

Back in the 90's when fragrances were beasts you could smell this in every classroom and hallway in my junior high (middle school). The original formula was gorgeous but I'm sure it has been watered down to a mere fragment of what it initially was.

Another musk scent I love! I try to scrimp on my bottle, haha! I like to spritz this on during shopping or grocery days, I do not know why. But probably because it makes me fee a bit positive and light. Just as the fragrance is light on the nose.

First perfume. Musky, cozy, warm but fresh out of the cotton towel. It makes me think of secondary school life. I wore it to school everyday, made my cardigan smells like it. Young and girly. Good price and suitable for all ages I suppose.

This layers exceptionally well over a liberal base of Johnson’s Original Baby Lotion and Victoria’s Secret Vanilla Lace (original formulation), with a few sprays of Body Shop White Musk last. Sensual, lightly sweet, cozy, and luxurious.

honestly, the body shop is so underrated for their scents. everyone should have a bottle of white musk from the body shop. just a super comforting and clean musk. it’s a cuddle fragrance for sure, it makes you want to get close to it

I used to wear this in junior high and not only did it smell divine but it projected well and lasted forever. For the price it was such a winner. I'm a huge fan of anything with musk in the base notes.

I have the White Musk lotion. It is perfect as a bedtime scent and moisturizes well. It is relaxing with the perfect dry musky fragrance that can absolutely make your nighttime ritual complete.
