Crown Spiced Limes

This is a vintage find I found on Ebay, which was first made in 1921 by The Crown Perfumery - the official perfumer of the British royalty with roots going back to 1872 (which has now become the fragrance house known as Clive Christian). As for the fragrance, it smells basically of lime with clary sage, basil, and oakmoss - especially clary sage which is the dominant note to my nose. Performance is amazing for a lime fragrance, with 8 hours of longevity and good projection. But it isn't really a pure citrus fragrance; it's more of a green herbal one. There is a new formulation of this by a company called Anglia Perfumery but it's really not good at all (it's a lemon fragrance, not lime; and has barely any of the performance as in this). That withstanding, I ended up selling this in the end due to not wearing it however. 3.5/5

High quality and great balance between the citrus elements and the spicy/powdery/ambery base. It seems that the oakmoss and vetiver act as a sort of bridge between the two. And it has a kind of effortless feel to it, though dynamism isn't the greatest. I've heard that the new formulation (not in the bottle pictured above) is not very good, so I suggest sampling that one first. It seems that there's' quite a bit of oakmoss in here, so the new guidelines may mean such a scent won't be marketed to the public any time soon, if within our lifetimes.

first impression wearing it citrus, mossy, woody, musk, grassy, coumarin... i get a fougere vibe ends with clean musk & minerally incense 2nd wearing: the heart has a similar style to Tuscany by Aramis (which I love) & after 2 hours has a different dry down - more clean, mineral like notes and musk i enjoyed this quite a bit

Now produced by Anglia Perfumery who is keeping traditional british colognes like this one alive. This is a really refreshing fragrance at an excellent price. Don't know how it compares to the original but it is certainly more exclusive than Dior Homme Sport and cooler than a cold shower. TMT
