Day 85 - Into the Unknown Listening to: Radiohead - Black Star Notes: This was another gift from a good friend - I didn't know what to expect as it was a blind buy....turns out I love it! This beauty opens with a crisp and clear clove note mixed with a freshly blossoming rose and a rich and powdery amber (which IS present from the beginning!). There are hints of pepper and cumin quietly lingering behind the gorgeous rose note...this scent is truly unisex in its delivery. As the opening fades, a whipped orris and cedar note touched by a somewhat airy amber and a lingering fragrant rose. The fume dips in and out of the floral notes and ambered wood notes until it quiets to a whisper some 10 hours after it starts. This was my first TDC fume a day it impressed me in a big way - the rose note in here is stunning and remains constant from beginning to end. For me, it wasn't a quiet or short lasting ride and it is a must have for rose lovers!

Smells very classy and elegant. Like old school ambers but with modern ingredients. Spicy amber with tenderness and curry tree. Very nostalgic comforting amber very smooth and SILKY yet peppery and resinous. This is more like a chypre in the vein of shalimar. As opposed to grand soir(which is sweet, powdery, and gourmand) this is spicy yet comforting and inviting. Not for everyone. If you can get past the tobacco leaf like smell at the first blast you will enjoy the beautiful amber once it dries down. Blind bought. I was wishing someone would make a modern shalimar, was already thinking of buying some of its flankers. Never knew this would be the answer until it came into our doorstep. You will be surprised with the longevity, I sprayed once on my arm and it is still projecting at 6 hour mark and not headache inducing, even the scent is not that loud and intrusive it still has an amazing amazing longevity. Well behaved and well mannered oriental that is easy to wear. I have several Montales and Manceras but it is too much for other people and for me. I wear this TDF fragrances more. You will be comfortable wearing this. As the name says. Oriental Lounge it's a relaxed oriental. Imagine you are on a vacation sitting on a lounge in a hotel on a secluded part of asia with lots of bamboos and modern design windows and ceiling and you keep getting a beautiful whiffs of this perfume from a beautiful classy women that no doubt that she doesnt seek attention or compliments. That's what I think of this.

Oriental Lounge is really nice sheer amber oriental. I’ve worn this one for a long time and often overlook it but it deserves lots of praise. it’s a classic oriental structure with a sweet vanilla-amber accord with soft woods and herbal nuances. I don’t know what curry leaf smells like but this doesn’t smell like curry to me. there’s a nice subtle savory herbal aspect. It’s like a modern Shalimar or maybe more specifically a modern CK Obsession. a more recent fragrance which seems actually similar to me is Etat Libre d’Orage Bijoux Romantique. it’s just perfect for someone who loves classic ambery orientals which are a touch sweet and more natural than synthetic. unisex. I love TDC Oriental Lounge 10/10 - moderate longevity and sillage, too. Also, it means something significant that I have a lot of fragrances and I've USED up Oriental Lounge. I've almost finished a 50 ml bottle and this is my second bottle.

I really like this smell, even though I agree that there is nothing groundbreaking here. It's a very well made soft oriental fragrance, totally in line with the brand's vision, namely to create fragrances appropriate for everyday use. I don't know how curry tree smells, and I can't smell anything remotely related to the spice I am used to smelling in East Asian cuisine. I get a lot of mild warm amber and something smoky and dry. Again, not sure which notes I am smelling as the fragrance is blended impeccably. I normally don't like ambers, but this fragrance is perfectly balanced, resinous, and it gives me a really nice warm pleasant feeling when I wear it. Reminds me of n older version of Dior's Dune that I haven't smelled for many years. I'm very happy with this purchase. I can wear this to work, out at night or just at home for the "warm uplift" in the winter.

Now this is a fragrance to love! The spicy, peppery topnotes are sublime and mesh beautifully with the amber, woody and tonka basenotes. This is absolutely smooth as silk, perfectly balanced, an oriental with a definite nod to the classics, but a uniqueness that makes you want it, need it, because of its modern take on the oriental genre. This is a beautiful scent that will never wear you. I do not understand why people are calling this a "thin" oriental. It's a modern take on the oriental genre, surely. It's lighter and less heavy than many of the original orientals like Shalimar, but that is the whole point of this scent. It was meant to be different, fresher, not so heavy and loud enough to encompass an entire room. It is either to your taste, or it is not. There is nothing wrong with the structure or design of this scent. It's just modern.

Surprisingly pleasant, light, polite, warm oriental gourmand. Lovely tonka, very soft rose, gorgeous transparent amber. A touch sweet but not sugary, and I see no reason a man couldn't wear it well. Not spicy, not a powerhouse (which are my usual preferences), not earth-shaking but very wearable and well composed. It feels very balanced and so smooth. I get no powder from it and while I can see a passing resemblance to Cinema, it's a stretch. I am all about heavy, opulent orientals and I'm not a big gourmand fan. Light is a word that generally sends chills up my spine - I am a product of the early 80s, and too often light = thin. I think this is light, in a good way. A modern Oriental done well.

Oriental Lounge is definitely a sweet amber and woody perfume with an Oriental vibe. I'll admit, I've never heard of satinwood, but it's there! Before I saw the notes, I couldn't believe how smooth the fragrance was, like a fine piece of wood that has just been sanded to the point where it feels like silk to your fingertips. I was so excited to smell curry tree in a perfume. It's extremely subtle, so I don't find this perfume to be too spicy, nothing like a spice cabinet. Mostly it's a smooth and soft amber. Something in it smells like sweetened wheat cereal too. I love it!

A nice and creamy floral amber! The tonka vibe is evident and the labdanum is always present. Those who like Lutens' Ambre Sultan or Annick Goutal's Ambre Fetiche will be a little bit dissapointed - because, the fact is, Oriental Lounge is not very original and doesn't bring something new. But, for those who just want to taste and wear a beautiful amber juice, Oriental Lounge will be a pleasant surprise. More feminine than masculine, in my opinion. A good longevity and a satisfying sillage. All in all, a deserved 7,8/10.

OMG Christmas in a bottle. I get a lot of cinnamon in this, but I think it’s the amber and pepper mixed I love it this on a cool fall day or on my scarf or sweater in the winter! No one ever mentions the The Different Company, I feel it’s been a forgotten brand, but I love it! Longevity is ok and sillage is perfect to spray on your scarf when walking in the city or on a night during a snowfall. Such a warm spice, with comforting notes. Highly Recommended 10/10

I'm a bit worried! Most if not all of the reviews above seem to be by women, the guy in Harrods told me it was unisex - what the hell, I'm big and butch enough to wear this.lol I love this, absolutely love it like nothing else. Deeply intoxicating, rich, sensuous and mysterious. For me this is the equivalent olfactory experience of seeing that 'person' that really knocks all your senses for six across a crowded room, walking directly towards you - wow.

Oriental Lounge by The Different Company is a beautiful sweet Oriental fragrance. From the first spray you can smell the amber and tonka. In the dry down it is a soft Oriental gourmand. The tonka really shines in the dry down. It is sweet, peppery, spicy, mysterious and alluring. I could picture Greta Garbo wearing this fragrance in Grand Hotel.

I LOVE oriental scents. Unfortunatelly many of them are a bit too loud and can cause headache and nausea. Oriental Lounge is not one of those. I so love this one. It's beautifully balanced and lets hope it lasts. I will get back with rates for longevity.

Soft, slightly sweet, easygoing ambery orient. It’s quite linear and a safe buy. You just cannot be disappointed with this one, if you like amber, herbs, woods and moderately decent performance. I enjoy it a lot.

People must be out of their minds for not loving this. This is the most aphrodisiac scent women can wear. It gently radiates natural warmth, class & sexiness for about 6 hrs. Ladies! Use this with caution...

Very impressive smell, works better on lady' skin The only issue I find is the longevity, 2 or 3 hours max I like the smell though, very sexy & classy at the same time, wish it lasts longer

Very similar to 'Tolu' by Ormonde Jayne to my nose. It has an understated power to it - very compelling and quietly powerful. Understated sophistication.

Definitely elegant. Warm, oriental smell, hugging, nice, positive. Not strong, not Troublesome ,not dark. I like it :)

From reading the reviews, some of whom are my trusted reviewers, I did not have very high hopes for this, especially apart from De Bachmakov, I did not find others I've tried from this line, too impressive. I do like this oriental very much. It is sweet, but not too sweet and balances the spices and amber very nicely, making this a smooth balmy composition. I like powdery scents and I like dry scents but thankfully for me, this has neither effect on my skin. I have Lutens' Amber Sultan for a dry oriental and Calypso's Amber for a powdery amber and I intend to get a full bottle of Oriental Lounge for the days I want a smooth oriental. I agree with rickyrebarco that this is not a thin oriental by far. It may not be unique or provoking, but it is lush and comfortable. Suitable for days where you just want something cozy and comfortable and definitely well-made. Sillage on me even from a dab bottle (the official sample) is very good (I usually have issues with dabbing as opposed to spray samples) and longevity is also very good, I've gone over the 8 hour mark and the scent holds very well. I would definitely recommend this as a good quality oriental despite it's rather hefty price tag.

Pardon me, but occasionally I do like exquisite light orientals. Oriental Lounge is a relaxed beauty, far from oppressive, designed to make you feel good. The opening notes give me the reliable sense of a good old fashioned peppery cleaning agent, which I highly approve of and simply must recommend. In due course, a delicious amber lingers around, together with labdanum (love labdanum) and a hint of curry, inviting me to sniff my wrist at least every half hour. No idea what satinwood smells like, but I cannot find anything disagreeable in this perfectly polished warm perfume. Must try. Edit: 100913: Next day, before shower, my skin still exuded cozy amber
