Dark Angelica

Argh, Dark Angelica is sooooooo good. I don't have the OG and couldn't afford it at the L'Art et la Matière prices, but if it's as good as this impression it's not overpriced (merely out of my budget). I wish Dua would bring this back. I didn't even know I loved angelica, but here we are. There is something so addictively vernal about this one--in a weird way, it reminds me of Carnal Flower in its fresh greenness, but it doesn't have the bossy tuberose up front, and it doesn't smell at all camphorous. I wish I had a full bottle of this baby; I'm going to use up my 2-ml vial in no time. Dark Angelica is going straight to the top of my Dua wish list. Dua creators, if you are reading this, please, for the love of all that is holy, RESTOCK THIS FRAGRANCE. Just managed to buy a used bottle of this from a trusted source! So relieved. I keep thinking it wouldn't get restocked. Can't wait to have a full bottle so I can use up the rest of my 2-ml vial without too many regrets.

i haven't smelled the original, so i can't compare. i absolutely love this. i didn't know what to expect from a "green vanilla", nor have i smelled angelica, i was just intrigued by the notes. honestly, this fragrance reminds me of a slightly underripe (aka still green) banana, and i love that smell. this is totally different than any of my other fragrances, definitely any of my other vanilla-forward fragrances. it's not overly sweet, just super intoxicating. i'll have to get a decant of the original sometime, but this is absolutely something i need to keep in my collection.

Very close to Angelique Noire, but a little stronger (it's an extrait) I was comparing them and I really could spot any difference. Very worth it if you can't afford like 3-400 for Angelique. I've actually never smelled a dupe that was this similar before. And this is my first DUA fragrance, so now I'm really excited to try more. The real wood cap is pretty awesome too!

I don't have a sample of Angelique Noire anymore but I do have a sample of the dupe by Julianna's Perfumes to compare this to and I really prefer the Dua because it lasts longer and projects farther but both scents are very similar to me

I’ve had so many failed blind buys with Dua that they are dead to me - but this one is an incredible dupe for Angelique Noire. A shade greener/drier/woodier but way more potent and longer lasting. Wonderful.

I have a sample of the original and this smells identical, but stronger just like the person below me said. I love that! It has lasted projected beautifully all day at work today! This one is such a win.

It is fresh, bold green in a crude way, not aquatic, slightly sour from the pear, airy and peppery in the opening- early mid stage, making the angelica sour, spicy and bright which is not my favorite part of the fragrance, but somehow it grew on me and I love it. The pink pepper makes it dry and dusty-woody, as in dusty-earthy at first and it intensifies the cedar with how bright and airy it always is and since it is paired with the sour salty pear here. I suppose the sour pear intensifies the bright pink pepper effect. It is still peppery and bright in the sweeter mid and drydown, just not dusty in the drydown. However once it starts macerating, the custardy sweetness of the base is prominent even in the opening which tones down the dusty dry pink pepper so the dry dusty peppery part doesn't bug me anymore. The opening also seems sharp and astringent green by the pink pepper and jasmine for a minute. The jasmine and airy pepper with the sour pear give a vintage character, rendering it perfume-y and sophisticated - again not my favorite aspect since I refrain from peppery aldehydic scents, see DUA's Heaven's Moonlight with the airy pink pepper and coconut - but the custardy sweetness makes this beautiful. So it starts off smelling powdery, peppery and herbaceous-leafy green and then more youthful custardy sweet and still green in the later drydown. Angelica is a bold, crude woody green note with some peppery spice on its own, a green earthy boldness, not too compatible with my chemistry when paired with vanilla as in Velvet Vanilla Mancera. So the vanilla-angelica comes off like a jarring combination in this on me too being so bold leafy overly green and sickly sweet, but it is so attractive at the same time so unique and addicting that it definitely grew on me. At the later drydown the angelica is smoother, and just a herbaceous green veil on the smooth vanilla and creamy sweet caraway blend, with some of the bright and dry pear-peppery woodiness of the opening left in it which isn't bothersome at that point. It's due to the creamy later drydown that I started loving this scent. Very comforting and the aromatic green element is what I was looking for. At first it seemed too sharp and green to me, but I fell for this scent the more I wore it. It also projects powerfully. I wore it to the Greek church and it even masked the pungent burned incense scent in the atmosphere. In the mid stage the pear is more prominent - I dislike sour salty pear, so I am not crazy about it. Regardless, the pear still manages to be an attractive subtly sour element to keep this fresh and not get cloying from the custardy sweetness which is amazing anyway. I love green scents, sweet or aromatic. At first I had to wait for the sweet base to develop, but after macerating, it becomes creamy quicker. For a sweet green, earthy scent I also like DUA Vanilla Riviera Escape, even though it has a strong indolic floral aspect so it's not entirely green woody as this one is. So this is very unique. Sometimes iris has a dry dusty woody quality to it, just not as airy as pink pepper, but it is like pink pepper. I prefer pink pepper over a dry type of iris. No wonder they list the L'Instant de Guerlain Guerlain as a dupe for the OG of Dark Angelica as it has the dry dusty iris note. The lovely MadCherryLove below kindly sent me a sample of Dark Angelica as it was out of stock so I am grateful to her for letting me discover this unique beauty. My mom also said that it is very unique and she loved it right away. Allegedly, Rouge Dua for Loubirouge Louboutin has the dry iris-vanilla combo with the spicy green cardamom, but I prefer Dark Angelica over a dry powdery iris.

Never experienced the OG. But I read so much info about Guerlain's "Angelique Noir," I decided to give Dua "Dark Angelica" a try. This extrait parfum is pungent, sharp, green and vegetal. The opening smells somewhat like the peel of an unripened banana and a bunch of CELERY. As the perfume develops on skin, it reminds me of the rooted green sprigs I pull from soil when thinning/pruning my huge, exotic, potted philodendron. I also sense a touch of indolic, green jasmine. About one hour on skin, I detect a wee-bit of powdery vanilla but zero pear. Glad I tried it. This Dua Extrait is nice!

Worth getting if the powdery green and a bit creamy banana smell is your jam... i thought it wasn't for me until nearly a year after the first few sprays. The high oil content plus the fact that these are 'freshly mixed' before being bottled, means it needs some downtime to mingle and mellow/oxidize. The powdery accords/scents of Dua Perfumes, i have a few, often feel like a chemical nose scrub before they properly mellow from oxidization.
