Hypnotizing Venom

My husband brought home Italian cookies today--well, neapolitan cake-cookies from the best Italian bakery--and they taste exactly like this smells. It's almost eerie, eating something that smells so much like the perfume I'm wearing, but I guess it must be that almond extract/vanilla juggernaut. I don't pick up on the coconut that much, but it does remind me of cocoa butter somewhat, maybe someone slathered up with a coconut-oil-cocoa butter concoction who is lolling around eating marzipan in a greenhouse filled with jasmine. Update: I need to watch it with this stuff. A little goes a long way, especially if I augment with the Oil Perfumery version. I suspect that both this and the OP oil are much more potent than the current formulation of Hypnotic Poison, at least in the EDP form. I think if I ever buy the real thing (almost worth it for the gorgeous and clever bottle), I'll probably go for the EDT anyway, since I trust Persolaise's judgment on such matters. I didn't pay attention to this flanker at all when it came out. I was a Tendre Poison partisan at the time. I had a little bottle of the body lotion, a gift from a beau, and I held on to the empty bottle for decades because I liked the scent of the residue. And now that one is nearly impossible to find, which makes me think Dua should make a dupe of it. I can't even remember what it smelled like, and at the time I was a smoker, so who knows if I would even like it now? But I would much rather try an "impression" than spend a lot of money on eBay for a perfume that could be counterfeit or poorly preserved. It doesn't seem like it would hold up as well as othe perfumes anyway; it was quite green, as I recall.

I've never tried what this is cloning, so I sadly can't compare the two. To note, There is sooo much oil in this fragrance. It took me by surprise. There is so much more going on in here than listed. I definitely notice a tiny playdough note like everyone says, but it's in such a nice way. On my skin, I get a lot of anise/licorice. Even though there is none listed here. I definitely get the almond, the plum, the sweetness, etc. I'm amazed at how modern this smells. It doesn't smell no where near as dated as I honestly expected. There is still a touch of something dated in here. A certain note I can't quite put my finger on. It's definitely not in a bad way. Something about this is absolutely addictive. It's mesmerizing. It's so beautiful. Everytime I catch a whiff, it's just magical. The projection is quite good, I'm easily smelling it on my hand that's a foot away from my face. This is rare I say this, but I feel like this is one of those fragrances that could work for literally any season. It doesn't feel too much of anything. (Not saying it's weak) I'm just saying that it doesn't feel too sweet, too powdery, too much of anything whatsoever. I will say though, you will have to like almond and sweet powder to enjoy this fragrance. I can't compare this fragrance to anything I've ever smelled before. This was definitely made for a grown woman, but it's not vintage or overly mature. Also, this is listed as unisex essentially? I can't imagine many guys wanting to wear this. This is just so dang feminine. It's sweet, nutty, powdery, fruity, etc.

I have an original bottle of Hypnotic Poison that I am scared to use up because the reformulation is not the same so I was thrilled to discover Hypnotizing Venom by DUA. It smelled great upon receipt but I did let it macerate for three months before I wore it out of the house. I'm amazed at how close this is to my treasured original. The sillage is strong and potent. The spray bottle has good control so three SMALL sprays (chest and one on each wrist) are more than enough for daytime. For night I would add one more walkthrough spray in clothes. The price is unbelievable for how good this is. I can't really tell the difference except that I do get a hint more coconut in the original. Magnificent dupe that I plan to buy again.

If you're sick of the reformulated, watered down Hypnotic Poison, this is your salvation. It smells EXACTLY like it used to in this formula, a vanilla, almond, tuberose cloud of sweetness. It has good sillage, doesn't last very long, but I guess you can't have everything. It also bears a resemblance to Manifesto L'Elixir.

This definitely is a GREAT dupe for hypnotic poison there are some differences of course. This is less sweet and more dry other than that its spot on for the older formulations. Strong and long lasting. I've gone through a whole bottle and am working on my second. But damn it's addictive like hypnotic poison is addictive.

I don't remember Hypnotic Poison smelling like this, but I'll bow to people who have tried it more recently. I get Coca cola, almonds, vanilla hand lotion and indolic jasmine. Totally not my thing.
