Late Night Venom

If you're looking for a dupe for Dior's tragically discontinued Midnight Poison, this is your best bet (in my humble opinion). I have a mini and a full bottle of Midnight Poison, so I'm able to compare any dupes in real time, side by side. This is the closest I've discovered up to this point--I'd say a 99.9% match at dry down on my skin. I was leaning on YSL Elle as a substitute until I found this. This one has the same DNA as Elle, but it's darker, deeper, and fuller-bodied. (Adding that info here for anyone looking for a YSL Elle dupe, as I've heard that one has also been discontinued...) If you've never smelled Midnight Poison, this is a fantastic scent on its own. A gothic, patchouli-heavy rose. It's the kind of scent I go to during the ice cold months. I find it comforting, and VERY addictive. The price point is perfection as well, and keeps one from having to hunt down a bottle of the original and paying out the nose for it.

This and Perfume Parlour's Midnight Poison dupe Dark Venom are very close to being the same scent. Late Night Venom is much heavier on the cirtus notes though, making it closer to YSL Elle than Midnight Poison. Late Night Venom also has a lighter, more effervescent quality--which isn't bad at all. The longevity and projection are good. Dark Venom's scent is heavier and reminiscent of a men's cologe--heavier on the patchouli and rose notes, and overall a closer dupe of Midnight Poison.

Is it close to Midnight Poison? To me, not really. It's heavy on the citrus and too light on the patchouli. Nowhere near as "dark and mysterious'. Does it have a similar vibe? Sure, I guess. And it's nice, but it's got a distinct shower-gel scent that just puts it firmly in the "freshie" category. Bought this so that I don’t have to touch my precious Midnight Poison. After hearing rave reviews about how great of a dupe it is, I was very excited to finally be able to indulge in my favorite rose patchouli scent on the regular. Unfortunately, this is not close at all to the magic of Midnight Poison. Performance is terrible, and the opening is sickeningly citrusy. Smells a little closer to MP after about 30min of dry down, but lacks the overall depth and complexity of Midnight Poison. Guess I will continue to splurge on insanely priced bottles of MP on eBay.

@AaronPaulBeauty you may want to try Fragrenza Ducal Palace - which is (in my opinion) the closest MP dupe I’ve found to date (and captures the magic of MP, as you successfully expressed in your review). Otherwise, you can opt for a niche expense and invest in Veronique Gabai’s Noire de Mai (which made my Midnight hopes and dreams fulfilled again). Here’s to hoping Francis Kurkdjian’s creative bubble inspires him to bring Midnight Poison back in the range (in its original state, and not “L’Or”-ified lol)
