Magnetic Wood

My new favorite scent. From the moment I first smelled it, I was totally wow'ed by Magnetic Wood. It's not a scent 101 -- its unexpected and softly complex, I have never smelled anything like this before. Its fresh and energizing, yet incredibly grounded -- much like a brisque walk though a deciduous forest in bloom. I can see why some women would find it too masculine, the femininity on my skin comes from the warmth and softness, rather than overt sweetness or florals. I believe that it is a true unisex fragrance. The dry down on my skin is beautiful - it feels like being enveloped in a cashmere hug (note - not the scent of cashmere, rather it smells like warmth and softness). As a plus, it lasts for ever (all day on skin, seems to be multiple days on clothing). Projection is moderate, although I've been using sparingly (2 sprays), so I'm confident it could be ramped up with heavier application. I would highly recommend to any woman who likes non-floral perfumes or who likes energizing perfumes (my go-to's are often citrus forward), in a more fall and winter friendly wrapping. Overall, it's fresh energizing, yet grounding and soft. Beautiful. — UPDATE - I had the chance to try this scent in 85 degree sunny beach weather and my opinion did a 180. The cozy hug became an overwhelming smother. Not good. Will absolutely keep this in heavy rotation for cooler months (I live in PNW, so chilly rain = amazing), but will likely put it away come warmer temps!

This fragrance is my absolute favorite of all time. I got a sample a few weeks ago and fell in love. There's something very special about the entire line of fragrances from the Harmonist but this one stands above the rest. It's just incredible. It's like walking through a freshly blooming forest. Fresh, a bit sweet, and woody. It is very, very well named. It lasts well over 12 hours on my skin and eternally on clothes. I sprayed my shirt and two days later, it was still strong and wafting from it when I was doing my laundry. Projection is pretty strong for the first 2 hours or so, but then it settles closer to the skin but it still radiates within arms reach. It has an incredible sillage and lingers in the air as you walk by someone. It comes in both EDP and Parfum concentrations and honestly, the Parfum is worth the extra $$$. It is very expensive, $398 for 50ml but a little goes a very, very long way. Bottles are refillable and the refills are more affordable. I'm just so in love with this fragrance. I even got the scented candle and before this fragrance, never had any interest in spending money on scented candles. A perfect 10 fragrance for me in every single way.

I bought the best seller & discovery sets and so far, I really like what this house offers! None of these are super hard to wear or what most niche buyers call "interesting" because that's not what this house is about. That being said, the ones I've tried so far I've been blown away by their performance. Magnetic Wood isn't powdery to me, thankfully! I gifted away my Royal Earth sample because it was just all powder. I'm not sure what note it is that gives this a metallic vibe but it is there. I love mimosa in fragrances, it gives them a candied fluffy (non gourmand) sweetness. This is what I wanted Amouage's Love Mimosa to be! That one was far too green and felt like something was missing. This has an interesting development through the life of it on skin, starts fresh and sweet and dries to a metallic, woody mimosa with just a hint of green. This has a grounded base that just makes me happy! It's not as candied as Mimosa Pour Moi and no where near as green as Love Mimosa.

With over 100 full bottles, countless decants and samples and having smelled well over a thousand different fragrances in the last 4 years, Magnetic Wood remains my #1 favorite fragrance of all time. Such a shame that there are no longer any retailers of the brand (to my knowledge) in Canada. Holts and SSense used to have them but no longer. For the life of me, I don't understand the low rating of this fragrance here on Fragrantica either. I guess such is life for niche perfumery. People just don't understand the art of it. This fragrance never fails to elevate my mood and brings me suchg joy whenever I smell it.

I know it isn't one of the primary notes, but I get a bright, synthetic cherry scent from this one. Reminds me of the joy of getting a cherry Jolly Rancher as a kid, mouthwatering. Overall, the Harmonist branding did draw me in, but the more I smell the various scents, the more I feel absolutely puzzled by the presentation. The name "Magnetic Wood" and the somber black bottle are just a major contrast to the playfulness of the scent itself.

Absolutely gorgeous. There is NO fragrance from this company that is not, at the very least, really good. Some are spectacular. This one is so green with woody and floral undertones. I would swear there is a touch of mint in here, but to be honest I always have trouble identifying green notes. Suffice it to say that I can't stop smelling my wrist.

Yeah, this does have a mimosa blast initially. Then it settles into a skin scent that is really lush. On me it settles into something between a riche vanilla-y gourmand from that palo santo and like... an aquatic, powdery, woody sensual scent. Vanilla scented tea with your lover; at a sea-side cottage on an autumn day with warm sun and a breeze.

Okay, I totally get the Eden reference. This is a much more gentle, airy version of Eden tho. Where Eden is dense and thick, this gives some airy, slightly sparkly bubbles. But the mimosa definitely dominates both fragrances giving them a similar smelling DNA.

this has been one of my favorites for a while now, it's such a lovely mix of greens, woods, powders, and florals that's soothing and captivating. perfect elegant and sophisticated fragrance for anyone! 9/10

Smells like a luxurious spa or yoga studio! Lol. 😅😂 Ok so I got this fragrance today and it’s nice... not my favorite from the line but it’s pleasant. Definitely unisex leaning more masculine at lest in my opinion. It is a very calming scent which is nice. Still have to test it more with longevity and silage. I’m not sure what occasion of a scent I would want this for... like ...? Going to a spa or yoga studio I guess. Lol it smells clean, herbal, medicinal and calm. Pleasant, not over bearing. Nice, but not sure it’s my “cup of tea” I like beast mode, sexy, vanilla, in your face fragrances but this is nice if you want a calming scent. Edit: I tried this again and it’s growing on me. It’s nice woody, fresh and pleasant. I do feel like I need to be in the mood for it though. Still I feel like it’s growing more and more on me.

What a glorious opening, sweet and fluffy, tangy anbd mouthwatering. The citrus with the mimosa hinting through is stunning. But alas the mouthwatering citrus opening is way too fleeting, giving way to a slightly unusual but very pleasant woody yellow floral as promised, and a powderiness creeping in quickly. I think you need to be a mimosa lover to really appreciate this one, and a mimosa lover I am not. Still, a wonderful artistic piece of work but not something I’d want to wear often which is why I understand the rating. EDIT - OMG give it at least half an hour and wow I have changed my mind! Maybe I just haven’t met a mimosa I’ve loved? This is a stunning soft, pollen-y and slightly powdery number that I would love to continue exploring! What a sleeper!

I get a lot of dry iris out of this scent. A bit of woody mimosa at the top - but otherwise powdery dry iris. I happen to like Magnetic Wood a lot for this quality - especially since it seems to have enough sweetness in the composition to help this meld to the skin and balance everything out. Do I like it enough to spring for a full bottle? No. But I wouldn't be upset if one magically appeared in my collection.

- Love at first sniff! This is freaking gorgeous. I think I found a new favorite from this house. The opening is gorgeous. The bright bergamot and osthmanthus and probably some middle notes combine into gorgeous buttery bright sunny florals. WOW! This is one of my favorites from the house. Faves are: magnetic wood, royal earth, matrix metal, metal flower, desired earth, velvet fire.

Ok I’m chilling at home today I have this on and I really like it actually. I think it would be good for mixing too. It’s soft, comfortable, calming. It smells pleasant. I like it

The iris is a bit overpowering so that to me it smells more like a nice body cream. It's a pleasant scent but I wouldn't wear it as a perfume necessarily.

Medicinal opening. Evolves into a spiked citrus mixer. Woody, unisex and unique. Indescribable mid to my nose.

mimosa BOMB. even with all the other notes, the mimosa is SCREAMING above the rest. the woods are there, but once again they are over shadowed by the mimosa. this fragrance made me realize I don't particularly care for mimosa in fragrances, but aside from that I think it's nice and unique. performance and projection are both average, not enough for me to justify buying a bottle at full price.

Hmm...I have a bit of a different take on this from most of the reviewers. I find it quite pleasant but overwhelmingly powdery. There was a top note of narcissus and citrus for about 90 seconds, which is absolutely lovely, but then it all turns to baby powder. All I get is mimosa and orris root. It's definitely ok, just rather dull (on me).

Opens with an unsettling floral — like you stepped on something poisonous in the woods. Then it moves into what another reviewer wisely described as “blue shower gel” territory. I love the Harmonist but this is not a standout for me.

Sandalwood with a hint of iris and something green. Takes on somewhat of a musky/skin note that has it smelling like its a lotion rather than a perfume. Had sample for test, would not purchase full size

I'm testing the Harmonist discovery set blind. I haven't looked up anything about them: names, notes, etc. Did the white ones already, this is the second black one. In the air on the first spritz I got a lavender herby vibe, but after a few moments on my skin I get tart citrusy grapefruit, spice (cinnamon) and earthy woods. At times I get cherry, but the dark fruit and mouth puckering side, not especially sweet. An hour later all of this mostly faded to an airy and musty dried flower, still retaining some herb qualities. It still projected but was faint or light. A few hours after that a slightly soapy scent, and barely noticeable. Within six hours it was pretty much gone. On the second wear, it came across a bit more soapy than before. Looking at the name and notes now, "wood" makes sense but given the sillage and longevity and its wood citrus spicy soapiness, it is not as "magnetic" as one might expect. I feel others have done more with the same.

I sprayed it on my hand at Harrods about 3 hours ago, and it's almost completely gone now. I asked for an iris scent, but all I'm getting is soap. Ridiculous prices. I'm better off getting something from Prada if I want to smell like soap.

A lovely metallic-floral woody aroma. Something about these Harmonist perfumes really speaks to me. They're very approachable but unique at the same time, although they don't shout so their details are a little hard to appreciate at times. From top to bottom it feels refreshingly clear and balanced, where none of the notes poke out too much so this wouldn't be a perfume for people wanting a strong mimosa, osmanthus, etc. kind of scent. I do pick up the soft, sweet florality of mimosa a little, giving it a very comfortable herbal-prairie kind of vibe. But there's a sharpness here too alongside this "sea daffodil" note that lends an intriguing marine-like....minerality? To the woods. It's very easy to wear and yet doesn't feel reductive. The drydown gets a little softer with powdered florals running through it. It stays somewhat green and fresh feeling while I can smell it, but I unfortunately lost it on my wrist after a few hours so I'll need to spray on clothes next time I have the chance and give it a better inspection. edit: unfortunately it just doesn't have any power behind it. Can't smell it on myself at all actually.

I guess I'm smelling daffodil, but tbh Covet by SJP smells more like daffodil than Magnetic Woods does. Also reading as pink pepper forward on my skin. Soapy and clean to me, probably due to the citrus and sweet florals. Getting a powdery, but bright, clean soap quality from it. It doesn't strike me as particularly woody! In fact it's got a more metal vibe from the citrus and soapiness. P.S. while Fragrantica says 'sea daffodil' both the Harmonists' website and the box I have say 'daffodil' like the yellow flower, not the white Mediterranean lily known as sea daffodil. The sandalwood here is the very citrusy kind. But the overall dry down is powdery and soapy on me. Doesn't feel like the wood element embodied to me... I imagine the wood element as tart fir tips and roses, cedar and oak, possibly bamboo and pandan. Not particularly sunny mimosa and iris/daffodil (watery). I find MW to be sweet and clean and comforting, it blends well with my skin chemistry but I'm not particularly drawn to it.

I wear Hermes Narcisse Bleu and how this starts off is somewhat similar. Narcisse Bleu is narcisse flower and wood. It has a slight blue shower gel feel so i always felt it runs masculine. Magnetic Wood is like a yellow-green version of Narcisse Bleu, its brighter, sweeter and more floral. Aside from narcisse and wood (the cedar is noticeable) Harmonist throws in citrus, yellow flowers and orris. The effect is very nice, it's lively and complex. The dry down softens down a lot and takes on a different mood. It becomes powdery and cushy, and the resin fleshes this out in a way that is quite beautiful. All the notes come together and creates this colorful skin scent that is addictive. This will make anyone want to snuggle you, it's that good. This is high quality perfume and Harmonist is one of the few houses that charge an arm and a leg for their products, but they do deliver. This is worth every penny.

Heinously undderrated, in my opinion. Somewhat of a contentious scent. Mostly mimosa and osmanthus, with some light citrus on the top and woods in the background. Perhaps some iris contributing to the powderyness. Quite complex actually. Hypnotic would be my best adjective for this one. Categorically, this is a yellow floral to be sure, but also intensely green, at least for me. No one seems to agree, but I get this dark green, almost purple, sort of narcotic quality amidst that yellow floral. It smells... a bit poisonous. Medicinal, perhaps. In a good way though. This really has a hypnotic, narcotic quality. I could easily rationalize this as a witches potion. An concoction of pleasant and innocuous ingredients that together, transform into something different, something dangerous. Who knows what it does or who its for. Anyways, a very interesting sensory experience. Absolutely love this stuff.

This is one definitely one of the most bizarre fragrances I've ever smelled. I wholly agree with everything julesverne38 said, and yes, this is HEINOUSLY UNDERRATED. I imagine this scent is like something you would have experienced in the 18th century. It smells old, natural, otherworldly, witchy and medicinal but not bitter or repulsive. Bought a full bottle within 24 hours of trying it, a rarity with me.

I'm just going through the fragrance samples I just purchased from Bloomingdales, The Harmonist Magnetic Wood is an absolute gem, the richness of this vibrant fragrance is priceless. I will be getting a full bottle, but for now I'll be wearing Hypnotizing Fire, my new obsession.

This smells exactly like Bioderma's shower oil, the yellow one in the big bottle with a wide base
