Gambling

I'm new to fragrance and trying to figure out what I like, so I'm taking a gamble (ha) on different things. I got a sample of Gambling because I was curious about the story, environment, and imagery the scent was meant to create. After trying a vetiver fragrance that I liked a lot, I thought this would be a fun, differential tangent. WOW. I instantly fell in love with this when I put it on. I can briefly smell the whiskey and coffee at the opening, it isn't overwhelmingly boozy and not like a sweet latte or anything. It's almost like roasted coffee that has been stored in a whiskey barrel. Then, I sense the slightly fruity part which I'm assuming is the bergamot. Then I was getting the pine-y and grassy part. So gorgeous. I'm excited to learn more about the differences in some of these woods and resins so I can differentiate their different scents. I see below that people are saying this isn't a beginner's fragrance. I'm somewhat a beginner and I found it to be gorgeous and I cannot wait to get a full bottle of this. Also, my husband loves it for himself too. He was like "fUk how does this smell so good?!" He was impressed I chose this to try. We're going to split the bottle I suppose :D

THoO don’t really get credit for just how niche some of their fragrances are. This one really makes no concessions for mass appeal. I get a deeply woody, slightly nutty leather. Off the top I was most reminded of Bentley for Men Absolute, but that one has a sweatiness, also a sweetness, which this one lacks ... also the cheaper Bentley is much flatter and shorter-lived. Gambling has an aromatic spiciness that gives the rough-textured feel of raw tobacco leaf. Combined with the whiskey and leather I’m reminded of Zoologist’s Rhinoceros, without that one’s wet, animalic barnyard side - this is more smoky-dry. Because this one is so niche, my brain is scrambling to triangulate it. Ultimately it’s a very compelling portrait of its subject ... leather-topped tables, whiskey and cigars, manly men with nothing sweet or floral in sight. I like it. Like other true leathers it’s not wearable in all situations, but I’ll wear it on days I’m mostly at home, largely for myself ... or should I ever get dragged to a casino.

I'd really like to know where some peoples minds are! First you can forget the Britney Spears suggestion, as smells like. Second, you can forget the negative and down votes . . .some one left their children on here to play. As for the fragrance; an almost "green whiskey" note . . .think scotch. Very well blended as so one note never out weighs the other. I get only a hint of coffee that lends a chocolate flair to the woods. A little dry leather appears in the dry down. A fragrance that is aptly named if you ever sat in a casino or around a poker table.

Intoxicating resinous woody fragrance. Like a mix of antique wood, sap, and incense. Similar to PdM byerley, but a lot more complex. Especially like the subtle coffee notes. On the dry down it loses a bit of character, but is still a good dark woody frag. Definitely an evening fragrance and not for warmer weather. I'd say winter/fall

This is business. Smells like power, ambition and succes. This is dressed up, and in charge. Special occasions only.

I love it, well balanced fragrance. The notes compliment each other well. This fragrance is a well oiled machine.

now this s a daring scent not 4 everyone but is good i like it, whiskey lovers

A smooth tobacco/leather that isn't overpowering and doesn't outlast its welcome. There's a whisper of bourbon in the mix, but it's neither prominent nor overpowering. Performance is low-to-average. Reapplication is necessary after about three hours, which is disappointing for a scent in this price range. I bought it on sale at Fragrancebuy for $140 CAD; at that price, it's quite competitive with its peers and worth a serious look for those looking for arid, masculine scents. The bottle and packaging are lovely, although the insert around the bottle looks like it was cut out by a Kindergartner: it was crooked and mashed, mishaps that clearly were not a result of the shipping process.

This is pleasant... For autumn...somehow I thought one of the notes will be pocker chips plastic hehe The blend could be a smell from spending a day in the casino, the inside...idk I love the idea of this It's grounding dt vetiver and I love beverage notes as well

What I get in the drydown is a resinous smell(frankincense) mixed with something woody-green like cypress, which I guess has nothing to do with gambling lol(marketing, huh!). For me, it's in the same genre as Kasbah, Lavs, Cardinal, but greener in a cypress-y, moss-y, balsam fir-y way. It lasts OK but projection is very low, or should I say non existant. It's an aquired taste. Not blind-buy safe at all, imo.

It's a no for me dawg. Maybe my nose isn't ready for this fragrance.

Yikes, the marketing for this fragrance is entirely wrong. Dice, casinos, adrenaline, risk — none of it matches what's actually in the bottle. (in my humbe opinion of course) Gambling is a very contemplative fragrance. Deep, green, complex, profoundly niche. It belongs to the evening, to solitude, to close attention. I'd pair it with Jóhann Jóhannsson's Orphée, for example, and nothing else — no company, no occasion, no reason to impress. The fragrance and the music do the same thing: they ask you to slow down and listen inward. What Cerizza built here is a meditative green-resinous architecture — mastic, cypress, galbanum, elemi, vetiver — carrying echoes of whisky and coffee that dissolve quickly into the wood-resin fabric. It evokes a deep, wet forest at night. Something almost swamp-like, yet refined. A landscape rather than a statement. Super evocative, if you ask me. Maurizio Cerizza is a true artist, and one of the perfumers whose work I actively follow and study. In these days of hyped modern perfumers, his restraint, his architecture, his refusal to let a gimmick outweigh the craft all stand out. Gambling is dramatically underrated, almost certainly because of how it's been packaged. (I believe he also took this formula to Agatho, but I don't have much experience with that particular fragrance.) It is not a showstopper. It is only for you. And I simply can't get enough of it.

When i hear someone referring to a fragrance as art this is pretty much what i imagine. Definitely not for the beginner's nose, and definitely hardcore niche perfumery. Gambling resembles a dark, boozy, woody, aromatic, mysterious and unpredictable scent, mostly suitable for classy and really confident men. This is one of those perfumes which takes a certain type of individual to wear it, as you could easily fall into the " scent wearing you and not you wearing the scent" This fragrance, and the bottle of course, are as an art form as it could possibly get. This is not an every day scent. This is your most formal, dinner jacket fragrance, and not for the guest but for the host of a glamorous gala. The performance is exactly as it should be for this kind of fragrance. Last and projects the perfect amount for you to be noticed and to grab the attention without being rude and pretentious.

This is probably the most on-the-nose boozey I've ever smelled a fragrance go on initial spray. Whiskey is my drink of choice and it truly smells like I spilled some on myself after having a few too many, to the point of almost making me feel slightly sick. Fortunately that calms quickly into a very aromatically woody scent - picture Encre Noire or Tam Dao. It doesn't smell like either of those necessarily, but it's definitely in that same genre of scent after the booze leaves.

Frankincense, tobacco ashes, grapefruit peel, airy rose and jasmine. The overwhelming darkness that presents itself on paper is very well balanced on skin. Bright, mineral citrus top with the constant bombardment of dark tobacco and 'clean' smoke. Way better than expected and a must try on skin if you're having second thoughts on paper.

Booze? Leather? Not on me. This is very aromatic, herbal, almost a fougere like. ***After wearing for a bit, Gambling is a real master at letting you know it'll stick to you for a while. Easily 15+ hours on me. I woke up and it greeted me a pleasant good morning. What a nice surprise as a blind buy.

This is similar to By Kilians STH... I would wear this if I was going gambling, having hard liquor, and smoking a cigar. The name of this fragrance suits it perfectly, but it is simply not for me.

Reminds me of those old scratch and sniff books Geronimo Stilton to be precise Very nice and interesting scent of you like spice and resins but not wearable to every occasion
