Ruby Red

Many people say when they smell a perfume that they think of a colour, other people think of a person with the characteristics that the perfume embodies, others think of situations, moods and places. For me a perfume transports me to a different universe. I can become so absorbed in it as to even ignore the world that we live in at the moment and focus on worlds that do not exist. My sister is an illustrator and writer of children books, she creates dreamy universes where characters are made of cotton, cloud, amphorae, tomato, You name the strangest combination of character, settings, plots and conversation and you land in one of her universes. Her universe elevates not only children but also adults up to a reality where poetry, music and visuals and lighting elements convey all sorts of emotions; all of them human; compassion, friendship, loyalty, humour, witchery, treachery, trickery, camaraderie contriving and conniving yet tender at heart. When I smell ruby red by the House of Oud Thoo, I am in one of these universes. I do not have to travel to get there. I am there. Perhaps I am made of crystal or I am a tree, or simply a passer-by. I might be a beautiful sculpture of Daphne or her before she turned into a tree. But I am beautiful and ethereal; the ginger and the tangerine perfectly balancing the white florals and the musk and vanilla giving it the presence of fairy, a witch, a forest creature, a tree. I can even imagine falling asleep inside a giant leaf after a long walk in her universe trying to meet every single one of the characters. The leaf is cosy and inviting just like the perfume itself enveloping you with the most care as if you were indeed made of glass. Bottle worthy scent; really bad for my pocket but really evocative, stunning and fairy-like.

Where do I start with this perfume? On first spray I get absolutely beautiful creamy tuberose and ginger. Smells so creamy and so intoxicating. As this starts to dry down the ginger remains and the tuberos softens a little bit, but you get this gorgeous cream candied ginger. The slight florals round this perfume off perfectly. This is not a full on ginger forward fragrance it's a very light and airy ginger not a spicy in your face ginger. It's one of them perfumes that once you start sniffing yourself you don't stop. This is another perfume I would repurchase for life it is absolutely gorgeous the longevity of it is really good on my skin and the sillage is really good as well. I would say this is more feminine than masculine for me. After wearing this for a few hours you begin to smell a lovely rounded floral and candied ginger that has a slight touch of sweetness. This is one of those fragrances that is really hard to describe. This might not be everybody's scent profile but this is definitely a 10 out of 10 for me.

Love at first sniff! Ruby Red is my type of spicy! Spicy and vanillic, and citrusy and white and yellow floral and woody. A mishmash of notes creating a very smooth, unique, at least for my collection, scent. Until trying Ruby Red I was convinced that I do not like heavy ginger leaning fragrances but this totally changed my mind! It’s warm and creamy and juicy and addicting! Probably the fact that it’s combined with 2 of my most favourite flowers: white flower, tuberose, and yellow flower, ylang ylang, had something to do with it. And it also a sweet, honeyed type of ginger. And I love sweet scents. I am not familiar at all with House of Oud fragrances but testing Ruby Red made me interested in giving this house a closer look when I will find myself around a place where they carry this brand. I always found these bottle a bit weird looking if I am honest! I need this ASAP in my collection!!

I love fragrances that are so well-blended that they take on a life of their own. Ruby Red is the perfect balance of sweetness, seduction, and coziness—creamy florals, gingered vanilla, and silky woods. On my skin, I do get a touch of smokiness from the woody notes, which I usually avoid, but I really love in this. I had an emotional reaction upon first spray, like an enveloping hug or relaxing in a hot bath. Ruby Red is a masterclass in timeless elegance. Edit: After wearing this a few times, my husband pronounced Ruby Red as being "too sweet", but I don't care because this fragrance is therapy in a bottle. Also, someone said it reminded them of Hypnotic Poison, and I agree. In the dry down, it feels like an airier Hypnotic Poison without the intense almond note combined with Loubirouge. Lovely.

Ruby Red is definitely a very unique scent, but you have to really like ginger to enjoy this. It's very spicy but delicious, it opens up with a very strong, spicy ginger note, in the mid you start to get the florals, and the dry down for me is a spicy, sensual vanilla musk. The ginger stays throughout the wear of the fragrance. It's not sharp or overpowering, and I do find some THoO fragrances quite sharp and heavy. This is a stunning release and I'm so happy it's finally available in the UK. I am so impressed with this fragrance. It’s the perfect blend of spicy, woody and warm. It’s very deep, complicated and interesting, the opening is fresh and strong, but you get the warmth from the vanilla and a masculine touch from the woody notes. All of the ginger notes take it to the next level. It is perfect for colder days or nighttime, however it may be too heavy for warmer days. The longevity of this perfume is great, I can smell it on my body the whole day, it also stays on clothes for days even if not sprayed directly on them. Overall I highly recommend trying this fragrance, especially if you are a fan of complex, unusual, strong scents.

Gorgeous warm spices floral. I get beautiful blend of soft tuberose and ylang- neither stand out to me but are present. Then you have this lovely candied ginger , the same kind of candy I remember buying from Asian markets and also a bit of dried ginger and even cinnamon or nutmeg (although those two aren’t listed. With an undercurrent of a creamy vanilla. Beautiful warm floral , I would classify this as floral gourmand because it does remind me of a spiced candy. I get moderate longevity and projection. Perfect for the holidays but I think it’s suitable for any occasion and it’s unique , in my collection at least

At first spray I am not certain of what I am smelling, I do get the tangerine and candied Ginger. I will need to allow this to macerate and revisit it tomorrow or the next day when I do not have any perfume on, because right now I am mainly smelling Sunshine- Amouage, which I sprayed earlier. So I am not sure if this is just weak, or if I am nose blind at the moment. There is a Fresh & fizzy feeling to this. Very unique. Will definitely be trying this out for a bit to get a true feel for it. OHHH & the bottle- it is absolutely STUNNING!

I bought a sample of Ruby Red because the bottle is so beautiful and I love ginger, and I love it! I have asked for a bottle for my upcoming birthday. I suspect Ruby Red will be my signature scent come Fall and Winter. Not only does this perfume smell like a fabulous spiced ginger bomb, it performs amazingly. It lasts for many hours, and it projects like a beast - so just a few sprays will do (which is awesome since it's on the pricy side). I highly recommend to anyone who loves ginger.

Omggggggg LOVE at first snifff! I was expecting this to be a stickly sweet spicy christmas type scent but noooooooo. Sweet but not cloyingly sweet balanced out with that niceeee ginger, and nice floral aspects. I cant make out what floral notes but i don't careeeee lol. Such a feminine scent! All year round scent to me, great for evening dates in the summer time. My second THOO bottle but best believe, there will be more.

I could have sworn there were cherries in it. Love this, so zesty and elegant. Edit: I was wearing this yesterday it is gorgeous, but it has no lasting power whatsoever, I was refreshing every 2h, you can smell beautiful whiffs all around you for the first hour and then it`s gone. For this price tag to get a scent that lasts less than Avon scent is pretty frustrating.

Creamy, candied, spicy goodness! This is like Hugo Boss Deep Red and Givenchy L’Interdit Rouge had a baby and added some extra vanilla on top. I think this will be a perfect spicy sweet gem for the holidays. I am impressed with the performance as well - I wore this to bed last night and it was still very noticeable when I woke up (and still a skin scent at noon!).

Wow, this is a beautiful perfume! It was a love at first wear for me. It’s just the right amount of spice, with creamy floral notes and vanilla. It is soft, sweet and feminine smelling on my skin. This is an addictive one for sure. It could be worn morning or evening any day of the year. If you enjoy ginger and tuberose notes, you will most likely love this.

I love this one, though i am not sure why it is called Ruby Red. It is cool-sweet- spicy-soft. It does not evoke the color red for me. Maybe a soft orange or a coral or a salmon color... Shrugs. I would have named it Pink Zinger or Feeling Spicy or Zip Zip.

This is my first full day of wear and I must say that it is beautiful. It is not as strong as I normally like, but the longevity is pretty good. I prefer more of a beast mode sillage on the norm... But the scent is stunning.

This is soooo good! If you are looking for a perfect Christmas perfume, look no more. It smells like a beautiful ginger cookie with a fantastic longevity. It's delicious, spicy, warm, feminine... Absolutely adore!

Warm and inviting. The ginger makes it beautiful and unique. Low projection and moderate longevity. I'd love it to be a little louder because it's expensive, but the softness does add to the effect.

I am very familiar with the smell of Memo Paris Siwa now. Based on reviews, I was expecting this to smell like Siwa, but it’s quite different to my nose. It starts off with a burst of A&W root beer then transforms into Sprite laced with creamy vanilla, whereas Siwa is boozier and drier with the faintest hint of sweetness. Siwa is more unisex; this feels more soft and feminine, a little fun... and less solemn (because Siwa to me smells like being in a church). For half a minute I detected a trace of mosquito coil, but it faded. This is quite yummy and not in an overly sweet gourmand way. It’s not sticky. It’s subtle and elevated. Dry down...smells similar to Hypnotic Poison to my nose.

Dark, bold, yet wrapped in a baby-soft embrace. The pairing of ginger and tuberose isn’t unfamiliar, but here it’s rendered in a far deeper, more enigmatic way. I get a strong powdery facet from this fragrance; though none of the listed notes quite explain it. With its faintly smoky aura, I can only describe it as gothic talc. The sweetness, and the vanilla within it, are perfectly measured; it truly reflects the ruby shade of its bottle. Sandalwood and tuberose lend that creamy, velvety texture I love so much. I need to test this again! Somehow Ruby Red captures the spiciness of ginger, making it reminiscent of cardamom, and not the citrus facet. At first impression I find it very similar to Starlight, perhaps a tad warmer and sweeter. While Starlight is unisex, Ruby Red leans more feminine. If you like Starlight and similar sweet-spicy gourmands (no wood, no musk) fragrances, this is definitely worth a try, but not blind buy safe.

Trying this from a free sample, and it really is a lovely fragrance! It's sweet, but the ginger adds a bit of spice and freshness to balance that out. Underneath that opening ginger, and as it dries down, it is creamy, soft, subtle. I like that the different forms of ginger are there throughout the journey of this fragrance, and yet it never completely takes over. Art I think would smell like Ruby Red: Dance by Alphonse Mucha

This is such a gorgeous and unique scent. This was love at first sniff for me. Spicy ginger, creamy tuberose and a musky vanilla. Mmmm. Somehow this manages to have gourmand touches while maintaining a feminine floral overall impression. I bought the travel size and now I am going to have to get a full bottle. I think this is a completely different scent from Twilly. They are not even cousins.

Absolutely NOTHING what I expected. I thought with this much ginger I’d get a ginger fragrance. Nope. This is a warm floral fragrance that opens up like a baby powder then turns warm w a smooth but very there spice then dries down to a warm powdered floral reminiscent of more traditional perfume. It is very likable but the search for my femme ginger fragrance continues.

Extremely feminine, beautiful fragrance! Very creamy tuberose and vanilla are wrapped with a spicy-zingy, candied ginger. The combination is warm, sweet, womanly, and comforting. I find this scent very unique without being challenging. The creaminess is beyond lovely and the ginger notes make the fragrance stand out! I am really happy that I discovered this beauty

Smells exactly like coca cola vanilla

UPDATE: I feel like I've been Hoodwinked. Ruby Red is damn near identical to Memo Paris' Siwa minus the powdery heliotrope. Don't believe me? Go and look at my review on Siwa. Better yet, spray Siwa on one arm and Ruby Red on the other. That's what I did and you're welcome! I knew my nose recognized the scent. I literally turned into a bloodhound in order to figure it out, LOL!

Blind bought a FB and wearing it again tonight. I have tortured myself relentlessly trying to remember where I've smelled this scent before.

One of the most beautiful sweets tested lately, and even if it doesn't do well in terms of performance, it's so cute and beautifully designed that I had to buy it. It starts with fresh citrus notes and the bright effervescence of ginger. But no, don't worry, don't let the ginger scare you, it's not astringent, it doesn't go to a freshie. A floral creaminess of tuberose and ylang ylang, very well blended, opens immediately towards the heart of the perfume. The tuberose is very tame, caramelized well, it only shows off its good manners. Hence the comparison with L'Interdit Rouge, which also has ginger and tuberose, but Ruby Red is much sweeter, more musky, so that they are two different perfumes, it's worth getting them both. This is where I wanted to get, at the base, a creamy, slightly musky, powdery vanilla, pushing the perfume towards a delicious gourmand tone, effectively obsessive. I don't think it gets boring at all, the candied ginger gives it a slightly spicy twist and the woody notes a bit of elegance. It's like I see an elegant woman with a giant vanilla ice cream cone. you could tell me how do I lose my head over a vanilla?! And yet, I couldn't resist it and every time I bathe in it, I'm in a cloud and my endorphin level rises because sweets mean happiness.

To be honest, i don’t get those, who say this is not a unique scent, at least, i haven’t smelled anything quite like this. I hate florals, but this one is so good. This is a very elegant scent, you have to have attitude to wear it. Personally i both adore ginger and tangerine, so the opening for me is amazing, a blast of ginger with the citrusy notes of tangerine, but still rounded by the fruity sweetness. Slowly florals come alive on my skin, but not as much that it annoys me (as i said, i hate florals). It’s perfectly balanced, the tuberose gives elegance and purity to the fragrance, ylang-ylang is very soft, not like a kick in the face. And the whole scent has this candy like vibe because of the candied ginger and vanilla base. It makes this fragrance a little bit edgy and fun to wear. Definitely try this on skin before buying it, because of its uniqueness, not everyone will like this - ginger can be a bit harsh for some, but if you like this, i’m sure you won’t be able to forget this fragrance. As someone mentioned before me: signature scent worthy, it will make you stand out from the crowd. Perfect for elegant dinners, romantic dates and all the time you want to stand out from the crowd and if you want to feel like a queen!

Okay so I blind bought this, ordered direct from House of Oud, and I learned I don't like ginger in perfumes lolllll. I guess I had never really smelled that note, idk why I thought this would be a safe blind buy. This is really well blended though, I can't even tell what is in it aside from the ginger. Doesn't smell distinctly tuberose. It is a sweet and creamy vibe with ginger. If you like ginger you'll like this; in fact, you might wish there was more in it. I am someone who usually likes very sugary fragrances, I don't own any fresh or aromatic type perfumes, mostly gourmands, so take that into consideration! If you know you like ginger and some moderately sweet creamy floral vibes this will be safe for you. If you're strictly a gourmand lover like myself and aren't sure about ginger, sample first. I may still keep this, I've only worn it once so far and the ginger blast in the beginning does mellow out and it becomes a more mild sweet smelling ginger (which makes sense since there is a candied ginger note in the base). If I decide to sell my bottle I'll update this comment. EDIT: I'm selling my bottle on Mercari; I like the sweet creamy base of this fragrance but I can't handle that zingy ginger note.

Wow. Blown away by this scent. This perfume was made for me lol. I can see it being classified by some as "not super unique" but to me it is just absolutely beautiful. This is a floral for those who don't like dry/cold/heady florals and like the sound of a sweet ginger bomb. Ruby Red is incredibly smooth, warm, a bit spicy but not in a heavy way, sweet but not overly sweet, it borders gourmand but not quite, it has a slight zest and brightness in the beginning, and is a bit woody and creamy from the ylang (not tropical or banana territory.) As it dries down it becomes an elegant and dainty warm/spicy/creamy ginger floral with some vanilla to round it out. Perfect for dates, day or night, or even the office. This would be a signature scent, especially for warmer months, but the sillage and longevity is pretty poor which really bums me out. I will probably blow through a bottle pretty quickly. I love the scent so much though so will just have to overspray or respray throughout the day. Please up the concentration THOO or come out with an Intense :)

This is a really beautiful and interesting scent. I have another ginger-forward designer fragrance (Versace Crystal Noir), but this is something totally different. There's a warmth to Ruby Red, but I actually wouldn't say it is very spicy or sharp, especially compared with all the cardamom-based scents that are now popular. The tangerine in Ruby Red brings a bit of sweetness but it's so well blended with the other notes that is adds femininity and lightness without being necessarily discernible. The floral elements of the juice are lovely and don't overwhelm the overall character of the perfume. The woodiness adds a soft backdrop that emerges over time. Scent becomes more masculine in the drydown. For a niche fragrance, this is easily likeable. It could be sexy or cozy depending on how you wear it, while still smelling interesting because of the complementarity and combination of the different notes.

First tried this fragrance at few years ago, earlier in my fragrance journey. I've kept a decant over the years and finally pulled it back out. I remember thinking this was more spicy than it is. What I'm getting right now is a creamy vanilla with a sweet ginger. A little bit of white floral pokes through if I really search for it but definitely not the star. I wouldn't mind if the tuberose were stronger in this actually. This is a moderate wearing fragrance, well-blended, nothing jarring at all, very "demure" but still present. Feels quite put together. Quite a lovely fragrance. I can see myself reaching for this a lot. The spice from the ginger is very mild. This isn't NISHANE Ani, but maybe a much more feminine cousin to Ani. I'm finally getting a full bottle. FBW.

Ruby Red smells like if vanilla or maybe it’s more of the sweet florals in this and some fruitiness was dropped into Twilly D’Hermes. There’s a soapiness to this just like Hermes’ and prominent ginger zing, but this has more of the natural ginger sweetness, you noticeably find in those ginger candies but also in the actual root. The citrus is sweet and fruity but not too bright or sharp. There’s a good balance where you don’t get too much spiciness, fruitiness, sweetness, or soapiness. If someone were to say they got some medicinal vibes like I get in Guidance, I would completely understand but the clean ginger cuts the juice saving it. I think this performs moderately but can be very strong if you overspray.

Got an official carded sample of this and I have to say I’m a bit disappointed. I wasn’t blown away by the scent profile, I’ve smelled it before so it’s nothing new (it has somewhat twilly vibes but not the exact same) but I did enjoy the zingy ginger opening and the sweet creamy dry down but it is very very soft. I didn’t get much of any projection from it that’s how soft it was. I could only smell it if I had my nose pressed up against my skin. I’ll still finish my sample and update if anything changes but for now I know I won’t be adding this gorgeous bottle into my collection based mostly on it’s light performance but also because the scent itself wasn’t very captivating to me but that bottle though!

The opening of Ruby Red is very fresh and zingy with the tangerine but that smooths out quickly. In the mid I get more creamy ylang than tuberose. Ylang ylang can sometimes have a banana smell, but it doesn’t here. The dry down is a sweet, slightly spicy vanilla. Performance is a bit of a let down for me, the doesn’t project much after the opening and the wear time is around 4 hours. Ruby Red is a good daytime scent for cooler weather when you know you’ll want to wear something else in the evening. But, it’s also a unique and unexpected date night scent in the summer or early fall.

When I first purchased this, I thought meh, put it to the back of the shelf and left it for a few months. I contemplated returning it, but I have learned from experience that some if not most perfumes need to mature for the best performance and true character to come out. So happy I didn’t sell it or return it. It’s so sweet. The ginger is lightly candied and such an addictive scent. I believe it lies more feminine, but that’s subjective everybody should wear what they want. I also noticed the longevity is better than when I received it.

I very much like this scent! It's an inoffensive, very easy to like slightly spicy (only in the opening) floral. But once I read Elle's Bells' review just below I couldn't unsmell it: this comes indeed very very very close to Memo Paris' Siwa! Especially once the spicy opening dries down a bit. I own and love Siwa so in my collection a bottle of Ruby Red would be redundant. They are so similar that owning both makes no sense.

I really wanted to love this scent. How can you not love the bottle!! I found the base, middle and top notes to all be marshmallow, ginger, vanilla, white flowers and more vanilla and cocoa. If you love the original Angel and sweet gourmand scents, this one's for you. The sillage is impresssive. It reminds me a bit of Euphoria without the depth and patch. I was expecting more from this House.

This fragrance was a journey. It starts with a sparkling, bright, crisp ginger with vanilla.Then, the tuberose & ylang appear & THIS—this is the magic moment. Oh. My. Word. It then goes to candied ginger & ylang. This is a softer, super well blended Ani + My Way + ginger candy.

Sandalwood, redcurrant, cinnamon, nutmet, milky raspberries, pink-hued rose and a waxy white floral note. Feels bright and fruity while still having spicy & sweet depth to it. Closest relative to this would be Rehab by Initio but this feels more finely tuned in every way.

It is very similar to Siwa from Memo Paris as said by Elle’s Bells. Ruby Red is a little more spicy than Siwa. Now, i have both of them😅. Ruby Red lasts a bit longer and projects more than Siwa.

I haven't smelled this yet, and am curious to - but the bottle and the note pyramid really look like it's just the (pleasant but ultimately disappointing) Red Storm, reissued?

This is a 50/50 cross between Hundred Silent Ways and Pegasus. Long lastning but not super projecting.
