When I saw these fragrances on display I was surprised with how smooth & accurate these scents are to their description/vibe. There's no denying that these are quality. The Maker's Lover is certainly unisex but slightly feminine-leaning: I didn't expect oud to work this well in a women's fragrance. This quickly became my girlfriend's favourite fragrance due to that lovely opening and spicy dry-down giving so much character. The fig is most-noticeable in the opening, and combined with the slight vanilla makes it feminine-leaning. The oud is loud without being cloying or overbearing: you notice it from opening to dry-down yet you don't get choked out by it. The longevity is fantastic in this one, all we need are 4 sprays to last several hours, it becomes a skin scent halfway through however I still pick up on it in the evening. Love how happy my gf is to wear this and I love how smooth it is. 9/10

Best perfume for those who live in a cold, wintry city. Super long lasting with amazing sillage (it could get intense though, so I'd recommend 4-5 sprays MAX). I wore this to two different parties, and everyone who spoke to me on those nights all complimented this scent. I always carry the travel size with me everywhere I go. Interestingly, people don’t seem to like it so much when smelling it straight from the bottle, but many have said it smells amazing on my skin. I’m kind of making this my signature scent now lol! But I get why the reviews are mixed. Perfumes react differently based on a person’s skin chemistry and the weather as well. Lover would smell awful on a hot summer day since it's quite heavy on musk and oud. I tend to wear this more during the fall-winter season. For layering, I’d recommend pairing it with Santal Vanille by 7 Virtues during the day and Lover for night outs.

Came on to review this after my first test wear becausee it was so successful. It immediately got me compliments from my coworkers with just a sample size from their fragrance library. I could smell the sweet fig, sandalwood and vanilla throughout my shift. It was such a succes that this is the first time I end up purchasing a full size the day I first test a fragrance. I still have half my sample but I couldn't resist getting the 50 ml plus The Maker website had an awesome Memorial Day sale going. Barely the 2nd fragrance I try from them so let's see how the rest go, but so far, so good!

It's sweet, warm, rich, resinous, woody. The dry-down is AMAZING. It's probably one of my top 5 favorite scents of all time. I don't get any fig, but there is a whisper of something a little fruity-fresh that helps keep it from being too weighed-down from all the heavy notes. It's so well balanced! I wear it all year long, whenever the mood strikes, but then again, I'm not really one who prescribes to the whole seasonal scent thing😆

Not sure why I'm not smelling what everyone else seems to be smelling but if you ask me, this is fig to the max. Beginning to end, through and through, this is juicy, fragrant, delicious fig. A hint of spice, a backdrop of suede, woods for sure, but undeniably and irrevocably fig. Amazing projection and crazy longevity too.

This is a singular scent- it stands on its own. At first spray it heavily masculine wood but becomes more complex and a deep forest of wood and wild floral. I think it’s a love it/ hate it scent and wouldn’t blind buy. It would be easy to write this off as a TF Oud type scent but this fragrance rewards patience.

Sultry, provocative, dirty nasty lil fig. Musky, oudy. This scent makes me overconfident. I could be a French muse. My hair feels shinier, my skin clearer. I may have just rolled in silk sheets my paramour and I made use of. No one can withstand my seduction while I float off the ground in a cloud of Lover.

This is one of the more unique fragrances I own. If you're expecting juicy fig then this is not for you, though I see some reviews claiming they smell it. In contrast, the fig I pick up is green but it's definitely present. Absolutely adore this fragrance, thank god they added it here.

Really lovely, more interesting version of Santal 33. Do you need it if you already have a heavy hitter sandalwood scent? No, probably not. But if you’re looking for one, this one is great and a more reasonable price point.

What a sophisticated scent, it smells clean yet well worn, reminds me of a fancy art collector whom you’ll never forget. It’s a very mature perfume that if layer right makes for an unforgettable scent.

First impression: (on paper sample) This does remind me of Gris charnel - spice + pine? Santall 33 kind of but that sandalwood doesn’t became too pickly from to other notes. Edit 1: Wow this is phenomenal! This smells like dark academia, femme fatale vibes. Picture you finding a random cabin cuddling up in a cabin after a long day of work burning pine in the fireplace and having warm vanilla chai with a man’s blanket you found from this random cabin. This is the feeling it gives me. The beginning and middle of this perfume I do smell entirely fig. Fig fig fig, then suddenly is slowly drys down to a soft woody sandalwood with some vanilla and oud. This is so unique. I’d say if you like this you’ll probably like Carner Barcelona’s el born. El born is a totally different smell but somewhat similar vibes. This however is pretty wintery for me, and as someone who lives in a humid hot climate I wish this was my signature. But I don’t think I can pull off with this one where I live. Edit 2: okay the dry down of this is giving a little dusty. If you love the smell of old books and fig this is definately a unique take. Maybe not for me , but this is definitely someone’s cup of tea.

I bought this in a little sample size, so I feel like I can't speak to the price point of this perfume. But I really have come to love Lover. Generally, I really hate powdery scents. On first spray, I was disappointed by the powder notes, and I thought this was a bust. But over time, something about this particular composition just kept bringing me back. Don't get me wrong, it definitely is powdery and stays so the entirety of the time that it lingers on your skin. But it isn't overpowering or cloying. Something about it just smells different to me than other powdery scents and I can't quite describe why. It just ends up being heavenly. The masculine and feminine notes play together so nicely, I especially love the fig and vetiver in here. I don't think this scent is sensual or sexy, but my goodness, it definitely is cozy. I kinda think it would smell great on anyone.

Uiii first impression is the feeling when sprayed on the skin is very strange, normally you will feel the coldness of alcohol, but this bottle sprays smoothly, like spraying oil on the skin Umm a warm suede woody scent. Sprayed, there is a little smell of fig, drydown will fade away the fig scent and the suede and floral scent will rise, lasting for 2-3 hours, the base will soften and you will hear wood and musk. The vibe is quite cozy sensual, ummm but contraindicated for people who smell suede/leather, they may have vestibular disorders like me, mild headaches. As mentioned above, it seems like they use a fairly light alcohol base, almost like spraying oil (more liquid) on the skin, so maybe that's why it lasts on my skin for more than 6 hours

Very hard to describe this. Crystal candy-sweetness deep under woodiness and dry leather. Drydown smells like sprite. Opening smells like fresh foresty woody candy. One of the most unique scents I own, but not my favorite anymore. I feel as if it's missing something on top, maybe a bright citrus or a mint leaf, something to spice it up. It progresses nicely and naturally. Not linear at all, and I honestly love the drydown. I give this a 7.5/10. Compared to The Maker's other scents like Stag and Paradiso, it's not quite as awesome, though more unique.

From the moment I first tried this I did a double take... It was a random sample I got and I ended up buying it. Definitely unisex with strong projection and eternal lasting power on fabrics, wow. I pick up the pepper, woods and suede notes but there is a green fig note in there also that really is interesting. Hard to describe because it's like nothing I've come across so far. Colder weather scent. Not blind buy safe but I would encourage a test if you come across this, it really was an unexpected like from me. Purchased from: Sephora

Because it’s advertised to have a good amount of fig, I expected the smell to be a bit more sweet. When I first sprayed it, it was very heavy of oud, suede, and a sandalwood smell. There was a hint of freshness from the jasmine, and maybe a tiny bit of fig. The top notes are extremely light, and left pretty quickly. I found the base notes to be present from the very beginning. Now that it’s dried down on my skin, it’s a lot softer and quite pleasant. I'd day it's pretty unisex, but definitely leaning towards masculine.

smelled amazing at first sniff, cozy woody fig scent that just feels intimate and familiar, then it was meh.. everytime i spray it and get to the dry down i feel unsatisfied, although it’s beautiful it’s missing something, it just doesn’t really wow me, i always layer it with other fragrances, which to me is an indicator that i don’t really like it as much as i hoped, with all these beautiful notes it could’ve been so much more than what it offers

As always, I found climate strongly influenced my perception. Both me and my boyfriend tried it on a humid summer day and found it smelled like a dusty dirty hotel carpet. I tried it again now in the fall, and I can clearly smell super realistic soft suede and a bit of pepper. Much more romantic and truly unisex, nothing gross about it. I plan to wear it more when winter rolls around.

Smells like santal but not Santal 33. I understand why it reminds some of Gris Charnel — this is a smoother, more quiet iteration of that sandalwood fig scent, minus the strong cardamom in the BDK. Lover feels deliberately crafted and well-blended. The lasting power is weak on me so I wouldn’t buy it, though I greatly appreciate it and would recommend others to try it

Interesting scent and definitely pleasant. Woody, suedy, and the fig adds a green but creamy touch to not make this super dense and rough. It almost reminds me of Parisian Musc but way dialed back, cozier and easier to wear on a day to day basis. I don’t personally feel like the projection is strong despite the cozy, sensual woodiness that lingers for some time.

This is the lovechild of Tom Ford’s Oud Wood and Regime de Fleurs’ Oud Dukhan and adds a fig note up top. It’s quite great and I’m torn between whether I like this or Oud Dukhan better. I personally dont find Oud Wood worth getting when these two exist. In fact OW feels much more basic and lower quality in comparison.

It's okay. If you are a fan of Gris Charnel you will probably enjoy this. Very unisex, creamy fig/sandalwood. I prefer Gris Charnel...smoother with the tea/spice notes, and overall more sophisticated. At similar price points, I would pass on this one, although it's still pretty nice.

I see no cardamom listed but this is definitely pepper and cardamom heavy in the top. It really sweetens up as a creamy, woody fig and white floral. If Gris Charnel, Parisian Musc and Santal 33 had a baby.

I like the fig and vanilla opening but I'd much prefer this as a room spray or candle instead of a fragrance. The oud and sandalwood is just too dry and spicy for me (I'm not an oud fan at all).

The suede note elevates the composition, though the sandalwood still really dominates. I wish there was more vanilla or a fruitier fig, I feel like that'd help make it a little smoother – which would set it apart from similar fragrances, like Santal 33 or Bois de Balincourt. Similar to how Gris Charnel adds warm spices and earthy tea notes that help it feel distinct. Overall, I think this is the best version of this sharp sandalwood and green fig fragrance DNA, but I'm not sure this type of fragrance is for me. I feel like it wears me - like I'm wearing a costume – and it just sits on top of my skin and never really develops.

Growing up, I used to pick off the little purple fuzzy flowers of Mexican Bush Sage plants to squeeze out a drop of sweet nectar onto my tongue. Sometimes I still do. That's what Lover smells like, the taste of that nectar. It's a little too sweet for me to wear, and over time reminded me of Smarties candy. When I was a little girl, first learning to read chapter books, this is exactly what I would've wanted to smell like. Sweet and fairy-like. It's also reminiscent of the smell when you walk into Lush at the mall.

I’m so sad I don’t get any fig. This is rubbery vetiver and overpowering sandalwood on me. Burns my nose. Super masculine to me

I find the sandalwood here too overpowering and screechy to enjoy this one much. I can detect just enough round, juicy fig to make me wish it were more present. I can see myself liking this on someone else, but I found it way too abrasive and harsh to wear myself.

One big "huh?" It's a really noisy mix of notes that are not well blended yet still result in something really flat. The most prominent note is probably sandalwood, but it's muddied. Nope!

The suede and woody scents definitely dominate here. Maybe I got a bad batch, but I couldn't get any of the fig or floral notes. Smelled like a wood-paneled tack shop to me.

At first I thought this would be a nice, woody, figgy, green scent. However, it took a hard turn to something that smells like brushing your teeth in a forest.

Overly woody, the fig is a background character. In its defense, I don't like woody notes to begin with unless they're a minor player in the base notes.

This perfume taught me I do not like oud so it’s a pass from me. I can see how it would be lovely for everyone who does like it though!

I have the issue with a lot of sandalwood where I get that pickle smell. This is definitely one of them.

Not like Gris Charnel or Santal 33 absolutely not! This is masculine leaning wouldn’t consider it unisex but a woman can pull it off a bit dominant on the woody vibes not sure why they would call this lover? Anyway the opening is sharp with oud the rest of the notes don’t really describe what I smell fig where? the dry down is wood smooth pencil shavings too pricy for what it is I won’t keep this failed blind buy.

smells like a really cheap crayon

Ok yes we are definitely in pickley sandalwood territory with this one. (Funnily enough, what most folks find pickley, I just find bitter... But alas. You know to what I am referring.) As a certified picklewood hater, I can get past it with Lover. It's by far most arresting in the opening, but it settles down fairly quickly into a balanced wood-forward delight. Just a touch bitter still, a touch creamy (fig? but barely perceptible), with a sort of atmospheric petrichor/earth element filling it out, alongside the musks. The only dissonance I find is the name and inspiration here. It doesn't feel like a lover's tryst to me, but instead a man's linen button up on a confident woman at work. I am glad to own a bottle, and it's an easy unisex reach for work year-round.

I am PERPLEXED. by this fragrance. I have never tried this house before but decided to blind buy and i don’t know what to think Initial thoughts were that it smells like a manlier version of Parisian Musc by matiere. Not even manlier but just more vetiver-ey and deep? I was kind of offended and put off by how far this was from my expectations. Some reviews said Santal 33. Some said Charnel gris. I smell neither of those. Not at all. The dry down HOWEVER, woahhhhh. Lasted 6+ hours even after my walk and now as i’m resting my head to sleep, it smells so cozy and delightful and soft and warm. NOTHING like the screechy top notes. I also understand why it’s called Lover now because i would actually make love to myself if i smelled myself wearing this.

This smells so good! But it’s definitely a room smell, not a person smell. It levels out okay after a couple hours but for a long time the oud really projects. It will be fun to see if it’s compatible for layering but I don’t think I’d wear it by itself. It would very likely make an ultra-floral scent way more interesting and unique. It might be great to tame down a sweet scent and also add uniqueness. Could be useful for scents that feel just a tad too juvenile by themselves.

It’s so strange; the opening to me smells like grilled pineapple in a new car with leather seats. I am guessing that is the fig and the suede. Then someone lights a cigarette in that car (the black pepper?) I can smell the cedarwood and the oud notes which are in the background and more of the dry down which I like. This is very strong on me and projects well. I wouldn’t dare wear this in hot weather. It is unisex but leans more masculine to me.

I don't mind this... but it has some ingredients in it that smell synthetic and smell like the same synthetics that are in Montana Sky (Pacifica) and Amber Vanilla (the 7 Virtues). The thing I'm smelling in all 3 smells like suede and nutty/peppery fake wood, almost a little coconut. Maybe it's iso e super, but I think it's something else or iso e super w/another synthetic.

I'm obsessed with this scent, definitely signature scent worthy, not a safe blind buy unless you love earthy/woodsy scents, it lasts long and goes musky and amazing when it settles. A lot of my coworkers immediately asked what I was wearing when I came into work, one said it smells like earthy tobacco with a little vanilla and something that rounds it out

Delicious and woody, I like this one, but its not a fave. It really doesn't have that strong of a fig note like I was expecting and is definitely more of a woody scent to me. The after a few hours it becomes spicy and dry, which is nice, but not particuarly for me. Def don't blind buy this

I can really only smell the base notes with this one, but I needed a summer fragrance and for someone who isn’t fond of summer-associated-notes, this does the trick without overwhelming me with sweetness or florality. I like to pair it with a fig & whiskey body oil I have from “anillO”.

I want to like this one and I don't honestly hate it, but it just gives me sort of a gaggy feeling when I smell it. There's something about the chemical sweetness and the leather that gives me the sensation of cola and bug spray spilling in the car on a hot summer day

This smells EXACTLY like Blue Magic hair grease. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but once I made that connection I couldn’t Un-smell it.

It is a warm day and this is sitting beautifully on my skin. It is warm and inviting and less sharp than Gris Charnel.
