Andalusian Soul

Few houses, if any at all, produce bottles that look quite as beautiful, or as elegant, as the ones from the Murano and Murano Exclusive collection from The Merchant of Venice. I don't usually comment on presentation, since it rarely has any impact on the fragrance itself, however there is a deeper reason today than just the fact that they look truly stunning. The scent in question today, Andalusian Soul, comes in a gorgeous glass bottle with shades of orange, red and yellow, evoking a warmth and brightness, that perfectly suits the fragrance itself, reminiscent of the golden Mediterranean sun! Andalusian Soul opens with a powerfully boozy rum accord, but not a commonplace rum. The rum accord is deep, dark and sweet, a rum that has has been aged perfectly for decades in an oak barrel, and now has a deliciously heady aroma. The rum is joined by the lightest honeyed-floral acacia note and a touch of amber, just enough to give balance to the rum, while simultaneously giving it further depth of character. However, that's not all. There is a clear backbone of vanilla, flitting through the top notes, giving it a warmth, that blooms as the fragrance progresses. As the top notes fade, the acacia departs, and the amber and rum settle into their role as a supporting character, the true star of the fragrance takes center-stage. And it is here, in the mid, that my favorite part of this olfactory experience begins. The vanilla, that earlier was whispering, flirting through the veil of the top notes, now blooms in full. The vanilla is full bodied, decadent, and incredibly warm and cozy. And it takes Andalusian Soul from a beautiful booze-forward fragrance, to a wonderfully gourmand scent. In the mid, the vanilla mixes with a light dusting of sage and rosemary, but rather than taking on an herbal quality, it takes on a interestingly baked character! The mid, which on paper should smell like an herbal vanilla, instead comes across as a delicious butterscotch and biscuit combination, and it does this without entering the dangerous territory of cloying, thanks to it's superb blending and balance. As the fragrance progresses to the dry down, it becomes a more traditional vanilla, with the lightest civet in the background, giving it a lovely intrigue, and a sensual quality. Here, in the dry down, it becomes the perfect comfort fragrance. It feels like the warm embrace that is a perfect end to any day. The vanilla, now melted and almost liquid, is blended to perfection and, with the civet and fading baked character, it is, quite possibly, the perfect representative of a hug in a bottle. It never quite fails to make one feel cozy, safe and happy. Andalusian Soul is deceptively simple, yet wonderfully complex. On the surface, it is a warm boozy vanilla, but it is, in fact, so much more than that. It is a chameleon of sorts, going from booze to biscuits to beautifully sensual, and it does this elegantly, in a way that few other vanilla fragrances can manage (and I have more than a few to compare with). For those that care, the chameleon-like nature carries over into the longevity and sillage department. However, by and large, I've found it to perform decently well, getting 8-9 hours on my skin, with decent projection for the first 2 hours, while sitting closer to the skin for the remainder of its life. However, with how the fragrance smells, I can't help but wonder if it is done on purpose. That having been said, Andalusian Soul is one of the most comforting fragrances I've ever had the pleasure of smelling. And I do believe that everyone should sample it at least once. From unboxing, to spray, to drydown, to the inevitable respray, it is truly an experience.

Umm..I’m pretty sure these notes are off or are literally in micro percentages. It’s vanilla, rum, amber and something else sweet. So if the notes scare you, don’t be. It’s Warm Vanilla Sugar by BBW w/a tad more amber and a subtle rum note. I’m grateful for that because I’m not into weird vanillas. I want my vanillas to smell good, not interesting. It’s not super boozy like Dulce Diablo or even Angels Share. I honestly wouldn’t have even known rum was a note if I didn’t check here, but then again, I like boozy fragrances. I always thought rum, scotch, and bourbon smelled good and it’s an adult scent I can get down with. I just want to smell good and this certainly smells good. It’s probably my favorite vanilla fragrance. It’s straightforward, but not boring. It also doesn’t smell like cookies because I also don’t want to smell like food. With this in my collection, I can probably get rid of half of my vanillas because this and Althair will be my Fall Winter vanillas and Vanille de Tahiti or Guerlain Bosca Vanilla are my summer vanillas. I used to like Accident a la Vanille but it just smells like a stick of butter now. While I love buttery notes, I’ve never wanted to slather myself with a stick of butter. Vanilla and booze are my guilty pleasure notes so this is right up my alley My other guilty pleasure note...popcorn. Might try to layer this with What about Pop but it might make it too foody for me.

The Merchant of Venice - Andalusian Soul 🍂 From all Amber-Vanilla dominant fragrances I own (so far), Andalusian Soul pretty much wins it all for me. And I’m obsessed! “Andalusian soul is dedicated to the maritime trading route from Barbaria. This maritime route connected the Venetian republic with morocco and southern Spain.” If you could imagine the goods that existed in this trading route, they were probably full of herbs, spices, aromatic sacred wood, as well as amber or resins. The perfume itself is a beautiful reflection of the trading route, from the presentation, the box which is very attentive to detail, the gorgeous glass bottle with yellow and orange shades giving you a vibe of the warm atmosphere reminiscent of the Mediterranean sun, the gold tag with the perfume name and its collection. I only wish the cap would be built a little bit better though, but that’s probably just me. The scent is feminine, sweet, yet elegant. The floral notes in here have been done just right for my taste. It also has this mysterious nuance in it with the incense, rum, a little bit of clove, and rosemary all the way down to civet note in the base which keep Andalusian Soul more interesting to me. I’ve been wearing this for a while now and enjoy every minute of its development. Kinda reminds me of my time in the south of France as well. It’s just beautiful really.

Saying I like Andalusian Soul would be an understatement. I'm head over hills in love with it! And the reason for my instant and such strong love I see in perfect timing. That I have made acquaintance of it now, in the middle of winter. Andalusian Soul is like one cosy, warm room heated by the fireplace. Like hearty hug of a much longed friend. Like a sweet kiss that brings calmness and sense of being home. All that is created by the mix of divine vanilla, amber and rum combined in just perfect proportions. It warms you up in an instant. One spray and you're there. But I love this Fragrance also for the way it ends. As its drydown is a total surprise. Well, maybe not so much a drydown per se but the very final residues after a night and more than 12 hours from your last application. 'Cause what I woke up to was a delicate powdery smell. So charming and unexpected that I needed to remind myself what perfumes I've been wearing last day. Well done TMoV! Andalusian Soul is my third fragrance from the house, after Suave Petals and Rose Moceniga, and I adore all of them. Do recommend trying the whole Murano line as last but not least the bottles are simply magnificent!

This one is a lovely gourmand. I had no idea what acacia might be like, and there is something very unfamiliar in this opening for me--so I guess that is the acacia--sweet but aromatic and fresh. I keep vacillating between putting this one on my list to only sample again in the future vs. "like a lot" (which means I might end up with full bottle someday). I think my hesitation is the opening. The rum is a little off-putting to me, which makes sense cuz I'm not wild about many boozy scents. But after the first 45 minutes or so... especially if I forget to sniff for a while, I get transported by how much it has morphed in that time. I'm totally a sucker for that dry down. A little sweet, a little woody, a whole lot friendly and warm. The more I write the more I'm afraid I'll end up telling those folks in Italy to wrap this up and ship it to me! Oh! almost forgot to say, packaging and presentation (if you DO order from Merchant of Venice) is completely stunning. I just got a bottle of Byzantium Saffron, and the box, the little map inside, the satin lining, the bottle, the little tassle! Wow--I don't mind paying a bit for that. Also, I got 5 samples free!!

Extremely well balanced, refined and complex, Merchant of Venice Andalusian Soul has zero rough edges. The main notes I get are rum, acacia, vanilla, amber and civet. The rum and acacia open with a burst of rich spice and warm honeyed florals. I’m sensitive to incense, but it doesn’t bother me here. As this dries down, the vanilla is slightly more dominant than the amber. I don’t find this scent to be animalic, but civet generally works well on me. To my nose, the civet helps the vanilla and amber blend seamlessly with your skin. Andalusian Soul isn’t your typical ‘cupcake’ sweet vanilla; this is silky smooth, rounded and niche. For me, Andalusian Soul combines aspects I love from Grand Soir, Absolute Aphrodisiac and Side Effect. It feels sensual, but not overtly so, and I think it works for day or evening wear in cool or cold weather. This was an immediate love and full bottle worthy.

I like it. It's amber vanilla scent with the exotic rum note as a major hook. Some green nuances in the background and some soft leather secondary notes (from labdanum?). I find it somewhat similar to Grand Soir by MFK but a little simpler and with that exotic rum note that really differentiates it from the rest of amber-vanillin scents. Good longevity, average projection, love the bottle. I think this is one of those fragrances that matches the name to the juice scent profile precisely, and for that it deserves the high rating. Brown sugar and vanilla + booze is not a bad simplistic way to describe it. To some, not familiar with niche fragrances, this might smell like something Bath & Body Works would release as a hand soap or a home fragrance candle, but it is better than that and higher quality for sure.

All Merchant of Venice was super cheap at Max Aroma last weekend so wait for MOV to go on sale when you purchase them because I got my bottles like 1/2 off. Sold out at Max Aroma currently for FB's but you can get this as a decant from them right now and I love their decants. They come in a leather like bottle perfect for travel and they are reusable. This scent, so good. It's pretty much niche Warm Vanilla Sugar from BBW. Totally safe blind buy, given you like vanilla. I don't get much other than a really great, straight-forward warm vanilla perfume. I've been looking for a good warm vanilla and I think I found it with Andalusian Soul. Wait till MOV goes on sale before buying Andalusian though. Unfortunately, it's very popular and also sold out, frequently. I wish it performed better, though.

This is gorgeous! I am testing it today. Very long lasting. Not too much vanilla and no musk but really great aromatic ingredients. Works great with my chemistry. I need a bottle! It does resemble the B&B famous warm vanilla sugar scent but not cloying IMO. I feel this is well balanced and I am glad it is not an overly vanilla scent. I am wondering if the sillage is good however. It is hard to tell since I have not worn it around others. If it is, this will be an ideal fragrance. This is great for any age or season, although it is mature and sensual. I can see this as both day or night appropriate so very versatile. The rum note and incense make it great for evening. It seem to me that this would be a great compliment getter.

This is a great example how people's opinions are dictated by the official pyramid. Rhum and Acacia might make sense, but Incense, herbs and Civet will take your imagination (if you have not smelled it yet) into a wrong direction. For me, this perfume is a gourmand Vanilla Amber with a tropical vibe. I think I even get Coconut (maybe coconut Rhum?) and dried bananas (not banana fruit, not chips, but the sticky dried bananas). And lots of sweetness in between: caramel, maple syrup, honey. It's edible, dense, yet not cloying and well balanced. Also, I do not know so many perfumes that do Vanilla so well. I just found one of the best vanilla perfumes I've ever smelled. The moment I sprayed it on, I couldn't stop sniffing my hand. Even my brothers walked into the room and said it smelled like vanilla. This isn't a juvenile, It's a sophisticated blend of vanilla and amber with hints of rum and warm spices in the background. As it dries down, it becomes soft, powdery, and almost cake-like, but never turns into a true gourmand. It smells like a synthetic mess straight from the bottle, but on the skin it completely transforms and shines. Longevity seems to be around 6–7 hours, though I think it'll last even longer on clothes. Anyway, I think I've found my new favorite.

There is no reason I should like this, this much. I usually steer clear of sweet gourmands. But I can't stop smelling myself. It isn't cloying nor headache-inducing, but it is definitely sweet and spicy. I don't detect rum or bourbon - vanilla and amber, yes. I think the acacia makes it special. I got the generous and well-priced tester set and out of all of them, I thought this one would be my least favorite and yet... it might be my favorite, though all are excellent quality. The reviewer below who says this is a chameleon is right - it's intriguing, dynamic enough to keep your attention.

This is a captivating blend of mildly sweet, creamy ambery vanilla with subtle incense and boozy nuances. A faint sage in the opening adds an earthiness to it making it smell rich. As it dries down, the incense softens revealing a warm, comforting scent reminiscent of Bath & Body Works' Warm Vanilla Sugar, but with a sophisticated twist. Imagine a grown-up version of WVS, with a hint of rebelliousness – as if it has discovered a taste for smoky rum-based cocktails. Maybe not worth the hefty price tag but I got it for great deal so no complaints!

Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous gourmand delight. Not just any old, in yer face, blunt force vanilla. A lovely vanilla with lots of overtones and undertones to render it interesting, non linear, sumptuous olfactory zen. I’m not going to wax lyrical about individual notes, they all come together in a banquet of mouth watering loveliness. Only downside? Not a great performer. Same as in Queen of the Night. Feels watered down, quality of fragrance reduced to accomodate most likely extraordinary packaging cost. That said, the presentation is sublime.

Oh such a lovely warm scent! Not a winter perfume at all although It's a caramel amber sweet but not loud. The bottle and the name really suits it. It's not the typical vanila scent. It's really interesting indeed. I can smell the labdanum and some slight boozy note. Someone mentioned earlier dried bananas. Yes, exactly, like there is a bit of a rum in there with a tropical flavour (dried bananas, papaya and caramel). No worries guys, no animals here! I wished it could last longer on my skin but 4-5 hours isn't that bad.

This perfume has a richness which I find intoxicating yet perfectly balanced, a delicate touch of incense and rum, the right mix of spice plus animalic. I'd say its similar to Alien Essence Absolue in that it has a similar warmth and depth. Modern vanilla scents are often more synthetic - smelling like imitation vanilla extract or a scented candle with all the charm of a tub of frosting. Fortunately, Andalusian Soul is a dimensional gourmand that steers clear of candy associations. Recommend.

I absolutely adore this perfume! It works wonderfully with my skin and is a velvety pleasure to wear. The scent is a soft and classy combination of vanilla, rum, honey, and amber. Despite its sweetness, it's not sickly sticky. The sillage is moderate, and I had the chance to buy it inexpensively. I regret not purchasing the 100 ml version because I love it so much. There's no Civet note in this fragrance, and I highly recommend it. The packaging is beautiful and luxurious.

I bought this because of some YouTube reviews, the beautiful bottle and it went on sale at Maxaroma. I bought the 1.7 ounce because it was a blind by and now I’m wishing I got the 3.4 ounce. I love it! But it smells like something else and it was driving me crazy. It just dawned on me that it smells a lot like Joe Malone ginger biscuit. Ginger biscuit doesn’t last on me so I’m going to layer them. If you like sweet gourmands I would say this is a very safe blind buy.

This reminds me a lot of Bath & Body Works' Warm Vanilla Sugar body cream that I like to use! And I consider that a good thing! It is a scent that makes me feel comfortable and happy. With 3 sprays I spent almost the entire day in a wonderful vanilla pudding cloud. I also enjoy the incense in this. It gives the fragrance a smoky touch and adds some complexity. All in all I would really recommend this to people who like gourmand vanilla scents.

Andalusian soul for me smells like a bourbon that lasts all day. From the opening i can smell the sweet vanilla (or is it acacia, I'm not sure), and when the rum kicks in, it gives off the feeling of being in a cafe with live music on a beach. It reminds me of Margiela Jazz Club, whereas jazz club is the smell of the indoor jazz cafe, this one is certainly outdoor, in a clear and beautiful night. Wonderfully made. Gorgeous....

It smells like warm buiscuits plus a slightly burnt wood smell that makes it unisex in my opinion. The longevity is very good, for the first 5 hours, it is strong on my skin. I enjoy wearing this perfume. I think you can wear it any weather, except if the temperature is too high. On normal summer days I have tried it and it was pleasant. So far I have tried this perfume and Suave Petals from this brand and I love both.

Andalusian Soul is a high-end version of old B & BW favourite Warm Vanilla Sugar, but in a gorgeous glass bottle. It has lasted 20 hours on me, and is a very cozy fall/winter scent. I bought it because I cannot resist a rum note, although I find it very faint. The vanilla is delicious and long-lasting. The Merchant of Venice has many beautiful offerings in fabulous bottles, and I am happy to add this to my collection.

A gorgeous, rum-and-amber vanilla with a hint of smokiness. Like a hug. One of the most beautiful vanilla scents I know. I was a bit worried about the civet in the base, but thankfully I don’t have any animalic notes at all. Longevity is decent, though it doesn’t project much. I agree with the comparison to Teriaq, but I don’t really enjoy Teriaq in the drydown. This one, however, is beautiful all the way through.

This is so good, so girly, pinky, sweet, yummy. I can smell caramel and vanilla even though it doesn’t have caramel in it. It is a stunner but such a shame it doesn’t last at all. In 15 min becomes a skin scent and after 1 h you can’t smell nothing at all. I really love this but not worth the money. Anyway it has became my night scent , I can’t sleep without wearing this, is such a comforting scent.

This is a very very boozy Vanilla. It is not beginner friendly. You definitely have to love scents to jump into this one. I smell the Civet, rum, vanilla, incense, amber and what I assume is is the acacia Immediately. The drydown is an absolute beauty though. Amber and Vanilla rich. This is one that is perfect for the fall & winter, wearing cozy clothes. I am happy to have this in my collection.

This is a great fragrance and it is pleasure to smell on anybody who wear nearby you. Cozy, sweet and like a huge hug. I don't mind to wear unisex frags which on the feminine side but it is smell like directly a women perfume. I wish there was a balance note pull the smell through masculine side like wood or spice without loose it's georgous character.

Smells exactly like Lotus biscuits - cinnamon + accacia. This brand is super underrated and this one smells DIVINE! It's gourmand, flowery, sweet, soft, romantic, cheerful, playful, etc, etc. It evokes a lot of good feelings for me and the performance is also great! I looved the trace this left on my clothes the day after as well. SO INTOXICATING!

Gosh this is so boozylicious. I bet if Jessica Rabbit wears a perfume, this would be it. But then again this is unisex so it would be equally alright if it were to be worn by a guy. But it does exude a sexiness vibe to it. Can’t imagine smelling it off a hot body I love, the way it would mix in with the body scent. Ooh...

I'm not into gourmand scent but Andalusian soul has my heart.its cozy warm vanilla .its sweet but not sickly sticky sweet .it mixed with smoky note from incense and herbs notes to make differentiation from any vanilla body mists.if absolute aphrodisiac says"eat me now".Andalusian soul says"you want me but not tonight"...

This will be my next full bottle purchase. I love this! It has the same classy vibe as Gentle Fluidity Gold and Grand Soir. It's not a huge projector but I think if it was, it would be too much. Such a beautiful ambery vanilla. And you can't beat the prices this goes for on the gray market! Love 😍

Acacia syrup, golden butterscotch candy, smoky rum. A deceptively common amber vanilla profile, one you'd think you can find in a million other fragrances, but for me has proved to be quite elusive - nothing else has yet replicated its sweet and boozy, golden vanilla embrace.

This is THE ultimate Netflix & Chill fragrance. So sexy in an “I’m totally sexy but I’m not even trying that hard” kind of way. I really wish the performance was better. If it were, then this would crawl near masterpiece. It’s not, though. It has a tough time hanging on.

Man this brand does not miss. That's a boozy, deep amber with some twists. It smells like what you'd expect "Andalusian soul" to smell. It's incredible. I'm shocked to see people think this is feminine, on my skin it's not at all. Perfectly unisex, love it.

When spray and sniff, it looks a bit boring, but when it dries down, it is very pleasant, warm, sweet, but not too sweet and cozy. It's very comfortable, good to wear in the office, and doesn't kill people around you. It stays for all day on my skin.

What a gorgeous perfume this is! Like sitting in the last warm rays of a Spanish sunset. The notes are exceptionally well blended to create a smooth, slightly smoky rum vanilla. A very grown up, sophisticated gourmand that works for every season.

Its absolutely beautiful and gorgeous but almost identical to BBW Warm Vanilla Sugar if you think this one is too expensive. The bottle is stunning though so i guess thats what you get for the extra money if you buy this one🥰

the sweet smell of pastries being baked, This is a blend of l'artisan parfumeur noir exquis and carner barcelona palo santo. this is good I am considering buying it the bottles are beautiful to collect.

Not intense as Ive expected, its a soft feminine perfume. Top notes come off as coffe to my nose, then a nicely blended autumn vibe vanilla. Its not loud, deff can wear this anytime.

I sprayed and loved it then realized it’s just like Teriaq. I still love it just already have that. This is less sweet and more incense-like which I prefer.

Andalusian soul is a beautiful gourmand smell. It opens uniquely sweet not overly sweet, initial apritz smelled unique to me. The vanilla and rum mix is giving me the creamy chocolate smell that I like. It dried partially in the next one minute to start smelling weird like sth like sth I get when I play with animal. I thought I was crazy until my friend said it has a civet note.. I checked it and boom, that’s the culprit. Fortunately for me, 10 minutes after being the complete dry down, the civet tuned down a bit and I get vanilla and amber with rum sitting at the edges faintly . It’s an intimate smell that sits close to the skin. But I get much of the animatic smell that repels me. I want to also say that vinegia 21 is on my bucket list. It smells so rich and unisex, sweet and in fact, it’s my first love and the best from this house. So far, I have Arabesque and Andalusian soul. I want just the 3 of them in my collection Edit: I tried this out again and I love the first 10 seconds of the initial spray but the mid to dry down was bad. It dries down like animal smell and the vanilla and rum is undetectable upon dry down. I am sure it’s the civet.. or maybe sage.. I can’t stand it . Smell like baby vomit mixed with tiny hints of vanilla so I returned it and bought vinegar 21 instead Please test it first, it could be perfect on your skin . Don’t blind buy!

This is a surprisingly delicious vanilla with a perfectly spiced top. The rum is sweet and is a great contrast to the smoky incense and herb-y quality from the rosemary and sage. This is warm and soft, but never too dominating meaning it could still work during summer without being overly cloying. Though, I would still say that this is closer to a winter/autumn fragrance. In some ways it is giving ‘By The Fireplace’ but feminine and soft. In some fleeting moments I can smell how this could potentially get too cloying, but the rosemary and sage is working overtime to save it from that realm. This is not a scent that I usually gravitate towards, but if I had to get a vanilla scent of this caliber I would consider this one. Though, it tend to be a bit on the sweet gourmand side of my preferences even though it has that delicious earthy amber twist. It is drying down to a mix of sweet vanilla, and something really spectacular that really tries to win me over. I think that is the herbal, dry, but sweet vanilla that is infused in that initial rum note. I understand why some say this feels a bit suffocating, but to my nose it balances that strong and soft notes in a pretty luxurious way. The longevity is great, the sillage is great and the price is pretty good for what you get.

This might be the most intense perfume I've ever used, encountered, or tried. A true vanilla bomb. Then you get a hint of light chocolate. It's not my kind of scent, but it's incredibly long-lasting. If you're a very chic woman who likes to attract attention, you can wear this scent in cold weather. I don't think there's any other way to use it. After about two hours, a beautiful, soft, gourmand scent lingers, and in this way, it evolves into something men can wear as well. The finish is truly beautiful. It's very long-lasting (8-14 hours minimum). It wouldn't be appropriate to rate this product because its target audience is different. It's intense enough to be in the top 10 of those not suitable for blind buying. If I were to smell this on a light blonde, curvy woman—in other words, a beautiful woman—while out in the cold, I might try to increase my connection with her. I think this is an important tip :)

As much as i love it in Spring (so Mediterranean then - everything the nature has to uplift the mood, nothing but joy & sunshine) it disappoints in Summer. It was a big surprise for me during high heat period (35 degrees centigrate in the shadow) - I've been loving it since spring and hoped it will be even better during summer but it, as if, disintegrates. Nothing but intense vanillic, warm-ambery scent reaching nearly Katy Perry Mad Potion level of silly and cheap. Add to this some distant harsh edge, a dissonance, from laudanum or rosemary. Just no. I'll try it once more during summer, maybe during an evening, but at this pricetag it should do well in any weather. Sadly, it doesn't. During summer it's a dislike. During spring a love. P.S. In the spring I was wearing travel spray.

For me this perfume smells a lot like... coconut. I have very mixed feelings about the merchant of Venice. At the same time that the fragrances are quite gourmand and interesting, they smell very synthetic. like a cheap perfume that imitates something fancy... but for a fancy price! Overall this fragrance reminds me of going to a caffè after a beach day and jazz plays on the background... but after a while it only smells like amber, acacia and vanilla. As soon as it gets sprayed it smells interesting, but fades fast... however this vanilla, acacia and amber with a coconuty hint stay. and it's nice, but seems like a body-splash smell to me. also the performance of this perfume is similar to the one of a body-splash.
