I wondered why this was more expensive than say Vinegia 21 because both bottles are stunning but after smelling this I get it.. the note breakdown of each fragrance would usually have me leaning more towards V21 but as beautiful as that scent is.. I get the hype around this one and I also understand the higher price point. The packaging is a beautiful little aesthetic for display but the scent.. omg talk about a masterful blend that showcases that myrrh can be a main note and be the most intoxicating thing ever. I’ve always noticed myrrh in fragrances as the little extra something that gives this warm cozy vibe to a fragrance and it’s made me loooovvveee things like Psychedelic Love from Initio and Sultan. There’s something about Myrrh and notes like vanilla and amber that can go just soooo right that it’s actually addictive. This queen of the night.. first of all the name is perfect for the scent profile because the overdose of myrrh while gives this addictive coziness it also feels dark and sensual in a way especially paired with the amber and what feels like a vanilla note even though vanilla isn’t listed here it’s something you smell like you can’t tell me this isn’t a myrrh and vanilla dark dream. It truly is a queen of the night that knows what she wants and lures her victims at her whim. This isn’t your sugary warm vanilla noooooo not even close this is deep and dark and just resinous enough to give that perfect depth. This is the vanilla you wear when you are having a date night or a Netflix and chill. This is a scent to wear for yourself for one because you’ll be obsessed with your own scent bubble but you’ll pull people in too. It’s rare I fall in love at first sniff I’ve only done it with Black Datura from Miller Harris. Sultan from Royal Crown. And Mirabile from V Canto. So 3 times in my entire niche journey and this scent makes number 4. I’m utterly intoxicated by this dark sensuous journey from opening to drydown. I’m so hooked.

So you’re standing infront of Cleopatra, queen of Ancient Egypt. You tremble in awe to face her. She’s breathtakingly beautiful, but what really impresses you is her air of mastery and fierce determination. She beckons you forward, and places a saffron coloured cloak around your neck. As the cloak envelopes you, you inhale an extraordinary perfume: dark and heavy at first, then warm and playful, caressing your skin. Saffron combines seamlessly with blue lotus flower, then amber and myrrh - there are even hints of a rosy caramel and unctuous vanilla. This is bliss! You feel yourself standing taller, more confident, it’s like you’re wearing a glowing armour of sweet spices. Cleopatra looks into your eyes and says “the cloak of intuition is yours now. Wear it whenever you need to know your strength. You carry me with you. You carry the wisdom of two thousand years of womanhood with you.” This is how I feel when I wear Queen of the Night. Strong and bold, yet supported and soothed. Unafraid to be myself, inspired to trust myself. Apparently in Ancient Egypt the blue lotus was known as “the flower of intuition”. Coincidence or placebo? I don’t care when it makes me feel this good. Read Edie Smith’s article on this website to discover how scientists nowadays also say that it can enhance “mild relaxation”. This divine scent - held in an equally divine bottle that’s reminiscent of a painted sarcophagus - has become my signature, thanks to a lucky eBay sale where I got the whole bottle for half the retail price. Try a 10ml bottle on eBay for little over £20. You may thank me. It might even change your life.

I'll start by saying that the samples are absolutely aweful and very impracticle. It's really a shame because the scent is pure magic. To me there's a massive amount of vanilla in there, but my nose could be tricked. It opens up with a nice blast of spiciness and it's creamy from the start. It then evolves into the perfect blend of creamy incense. The incense eventually fades away after many hours, and the scent becomes a great mix of creamy sandalwood, myrrh and cumarin. I've got to say I can't really understand why they gave it that name as there's absolutely nothing feminine about this fragrance. There's also absolutely nothing masculine about it. I know the reasons behind it are marketing based, but I think it could trick some ladies into blind buying what they'd think is a very feminine "queen" fragrance. It really is not. The fragrance is pretty simple, in the sense that the notes are really reflecting what you get, it's not the most complicated blend in the world I'd guess. But it's perfect. There's absolutely nothing I would change about this fragrance. I think it perfectly captures the "opulence of timeless royalty". The price being higher than their other offerings is understandable and smellable. This smells EXTREMELY high quality. You can smell that they didn't cheap out on the ingredients. It's the first perfume I smell from this brand and this will go on my to buy list. What a masterpiece. Performance is incredible. This lasts an eternity and the projection is great.

The result is an opulent, warm and deeply spiritual scent. The spicy and mystical opening. The first impact is vibrant. Saffron and Cinnamon create an immediate, almost "golden" heat. The special feature here is Blue Lotus, a rare note that adds a very subtle aquatic-floral touch, preventing the spices from being too heavy or powdery. The Heart is the soul of the fragrance. Here the true essence of Queen of The Night emerges. Incense and Amber envelop the Kyphi accord. A sexy amber incense, comparing to other incense Egyptian themed perfumes like Mira Takla's Vallee Des Rois from 1988, this one is not as potent as that one, which was similarly only for a short time available at Harrods in London and (and Galeries Lafayette in Paris, Vallee Des Rois). I have to say I find this a good update of the Kyphi theme which may or may not have included cinnamon as a note, a note that is said to be arousing sexually. Dawn Spencer Hurwitz has "Kyphi & Cardamom" perfume which is also in this direction of Queen of the Night, but The Merchant of Venice version is richer in a deep, projecting amber. I think there is a slight citrus lift too, but this might be a lemony aspect of the incense. Ancient Egypt seems to inspire the most precious perfumes, including the rare "Nefertiti" by Chabrawichi, a rose chypre (fluorescently rosy) fit for a queen (and actually produced and bottled in Egypt, when it was being made). All of these perfumes are in Fragranticás database. One more note, this is not my favorite bottle. It's pretty, and I love The Merchant of Venice for making special unique bottles which are romantically inspired works in themselves, but this bottle could have used some texture -- it's actually a printed pattern on a smooth gold surface, it makes me fantasize about Ancient Egypt rather than make me feel as though I'm holding an historical object.

Queen Of The Night opens in a way that is hauntingly familiar, yet wholly unique. In the first whiffs, I swore I remembered this profile, and then it hit me— it’s in the same vein as the dry-down of Future Society’s Haunted Rose. I’m delighted by this, as Haunted Rose’s opening mimics that of potpourri laced with cigarette smoke, and it’s simply not worth the half hour of agony. Here, QOTN is rich and comforting from the first spiritz. Like a feather on the scale, it perfectly balances smoky with sweet. Never reaches a point where it is overwhelming. It seems to have a moderate or intimate sillage— but that seems to play in its favor. There’s a calming charm to it that would likely be tainted if it projected too strongly. Another perfume I’m reminded of is Guerlain’s Angelique Noire— if only for QOTN’s whispers of green vanilla as it blooms on the skin. Such a unique and addicting profile. Since I’ve only just received this one, the jury’s still out regarding longevity. But I’m surprised at the turnout for how many perceive this as strictly a winter scent. For myself, it seems more seasonally universal. I’m excited to see what kind of impression this one makes. I would argue the scent itself is a bit steep for the price point. But the bottle is absolutely gorgeous. Overall, what an elegant, comforting and mesmerizing fragrance.

Non avevo ancora utilizzato prodotti di The Merchant of Venice e questo profumo mi ha piacevolmente stupito, lo ho amato fin da subito! Anche se solitamente non indosso questo tipo di fragranze, l'ho trovato davvero irresistibile! È caratterizzato da una profumazione molto femminile. Si percepisce fin da subito che si tratta di un profumo dolce e seducente, elegante e raffinato. All'inizio prevalgono note speziate come quelle di cannella e zafferano, in seguito si percepiscono note ambrate che lasciano poi il posto ad una base di mirra e sandalo. Nell'insieme ho notato anche delle note floreali, che danno al tutto una certa freschezza, è forse grazie a queste che l'odore non rimane troppo dolce e perció ancora più gradevole. La profumazione è molto marcata e persistente, rimane nel tempo sia addosso che sui vestiti e lascia una scia incredibile. Ho sperimentato che dura quantomeno tutta la giornata. Sicuramente impegnativo da indossare, non passa inosservato ed è perfetto per le grandi occasioni. Anche il packaging è molto particolare, ricercato ed elegante, rende perfettamente giustizia al prodotto che secondo me si presta benissimo anche per un regalo...che sarebbe sicuramente molto apprezzato! È piaciuto molto alle mie amiche ed anche a mio marito.

A highly sophisticated fragrance, shifting beautifully through its phases. From the very moment it was released, it became my signature scent. A masterpiece for me. Overall, it falls into the churchy, cinnamon–tonka warm category, yet it also carries a darker side. The myrrh here is perfectly balanced, never overpowering; lending an incense-like quality that is never smoky or harsh, but soft and profound. For me, the Egyptian kyphi accord is the very essence of this perfume; all of its mystery seems to lie there, which is why every review, every impression of it can feel different. I also find it slightly lactonic, as it leaves a milky, creamy impression on my skin every time I wear it (probably sandalwood). There’s a suede-like nuance as well. The saffron is very prominent, yet it never turns metallic or artificial as it sometimes does in vanilla–saffron pairings. This bottle simply smells of quality. And its presentation is just as stunning. Each time I pick it up, I find myself turning the bottle in my hand, admiring it before I spray. This scent is fit for a queen! It’s so rich, luxurious and expensive smelling and comes with a presentation/bottle that looks super luxe! It’s my second fragrance from The Merchant of Venice and it’s a piece of art! The juice, the bottle and the packaging is absolutely fantastic. It’s indeed a scent similar to Vanagloria or Babycat, but it’s more well rounded, more myrrh+soft vanilla and less peppery, spicy. And it’s less sweet than Vanagloria, because I tried both of them on my arm. Here, there’s no harsh black or pink pepper just soft spices like cinnamon and saffron. It’s a opulent, warm, ambery, resinous, sweet scent, and for all those wanting the most beautiful packaging from their perfumes, this is it! Pure class and refinement delivered to us by Italians. Longevity is amazing, including on skin, I have sprayed this scent in the morning, before heading to work and 14 hours later I still get whiffs of it when I move my arm around. It’s pricey but it’s highly concentrated and lasts forever! Now I need to get my hands on Imperial Emerald, a scent tribute to white florals and peacocks!

You know a fragrance is so damn good when multiple people stop you on the streets to ask you what you are wearing. The longevity and projection on this is amazing and please do not be scared by the name because this is 100% unisex and the majority of the time guys ask me what I’m wearing and I’m a man also. I normally don’t write a lot of reviews but this fragrance truly deserves it and takes one of my top 3 winter fall fragrance spot for sure. I’ve tried and own many fragrances with that baby cat/ rosendo 5 dna profile but all of those seems incomplete and harsh with an off putting note that doesn’t seem well blended (rubber). But queen of the night perfected that scent profile and rounded everything out so it’s this smooth buttery, slightly inncensy deep rich vanilla profile that is to DIE for. It’s so damn good and intoxicating. This just goes to show that mainstream doesn’t always means better and I am shocked that this house doesn’t get more love

Im fangirling this is amazing... need to test further but i think i found my winter signature!! EDIT: Yessssssssssssssssssss i fkin found it 🥹 after so much money spent searching for my winter vanilla im so happy. This is a smoky sweet dark decadent caramelized vanilla. SO perfect. Last all day i can smell it on me all day and it never gets to be too much. V happy. Edit 2: i wear this everyday currently im so obssesed. I got blessed with a bogo deal and it pains me to realize that i could've lived my life without knowing about it cause i found this purely on my own, as with all of my favorite fragrances. Which goes to show you you have to do this fragrance journey for yourself and not go by what others show you, only. I came on fragrantica, i tried babycat, didnt like it.. took a chance a blind bought this and wowow... incredible. All my clothes my hair smell like this fluffy elegant smoky vanilla and im just so happy.

For the first hour I wore it, I kept thinking "This smells expensive!" That was a strange way for my brain to process the combination of relatively rare aromatic ingredients, but it makes sense. I'm not used to wearing woody-spicy scents. I bought a small bottle of this one because it seemed like a safe bet that it would be as entrancing as the ancient incense it's based on. It is. Others have mentioned a note of cocoa, or mud, and I agree that those are present. They're not overwhelming to me, though. After about half an hour, a sweet scent of licorice predominated. Spices and woods remained beautifully blended in the background until it faded completely, which only happened after hours. It's not a scent I'd wear every day or during the hot months, but I'd wear it almost any night with the exception of summer.

Remarkable. Queen of the Night sent me on a voyage. For starters, I wouldn't say she shares the same DNA as Babycat, Ros No 5, and Vanagloria. Maybe, just maybe, they are in the same galaxy because of the saffron? Queen of the night is all about that luxurious amber, myrrh, tonka, and that touch of incense. It's giving pure goddess! But what really pulls it all together is that note of blue lotus in the top. Such an interesting addition and completely unexpected, but it just works. Blue Lotus predominately grows in Eastern Africa, dating back to the Ancient Egyptians and is known as the 'flower of intuition' There's something so mysterious and other-worldly about this fragrance. A true work of art!

This is incredible. Truly. The saffron is plush and leathery, not sharp, not medicinal. She opens with this soft, smouldering smokiness wrapped in suede and warm leather. She is strong, unapologetically so. Two sprays and you’re basically summoning an oracle! The amber glows underneath everything, warm without being suffocating. She isn’t gourmand, yet she makes me salivate. The tonka and sandalwood are thick, creamy, almost milky, the kind of scent that brushes the back of your throat. There’s a whisper of smoke, a sweet balsamic depth, something delicious but not dessert like. It’s opulent, temple-bathed-in-lantern-light energy. A sacred warmth left behind after day fades. This is a masterpiece.

Resinous mystère, aptly named. An honor to wear. Indeed, for a queen of the night - a dark-natured intuitive woman seeking wisdom (but it can definitely be unisex). Heavy on the myrrh. It's not listed, but there has to be vanilla in this. Anyway, I'm just going to throw on my ankh necklace and spray this on. It's the least I can do to have a meaningful spiritual experience. It's one of those perfumes you don't need to talk about much, just wear it and let it speak for itself. I'm sure the ancients would approve of this mystical fragrance (and its insanely gorgeous bottle). I plan on acquiring a bottle one day, my wallet be damned.

I felt compelled to write a second review; this fragrance truly deserves it. I’ve been wearing it for three months now, and as someone who purchases three to four perfumes a month (mostly niche), I can honestly say that nothing has surpassed it. This one is truly special. It’s a flawless composition: a perfect myrrh incense wrapped in tonka, warm cinnamon, and creamy sandalwood. The more I wear it, the more it captivates me; I even find myself reaching for it before bed. deeply resinous and boozy; normally I find cinnamon notes to be overpowering and off-putting but here is just adds to the warm feeling you get from the amber, slightly spiced and sweet. I feel that this would blossom into something deliciously addictive worn on a cold night out. Perfectly unisex, the person that comes to mind when I smell this is sensual and beautiful; mysterious and sure of themself. It smells expensive and comforting at the same time. I like it on my skin, but I would like it even better on a lover. very similar to my nose to Khaltat Night with less of the fruity sweetness.

I got a sample of this from another perfume order and I fell in love almost instantly, I got a full bottle not too long after. The fragrance itself is so soothing to me that I often times just smell the nozzle and spray juuust a little on my wrist when I go to bed. The scent is smooth and soft and makes me feel like I just wandered a night market with rich and oriental scents. The only downsides is that the opening can be a bit intense/harsh, you don't need a lot of sprays for this one. And unfortunately the price point is a bit much if you don't have the extra cash to spare for it.

on me this is toasted coconut chunks in golden syrup sat in a dark wooden bowl held by someone with plasters soaked in tcp on their hands....maybe some dates. Sweet but not juvenile or sugary sweet... maybe more caramelised. Yummy and warming. From that description I wouldn't have thought I would like this...but it's amazing and I'm a bit obsessed with it just now.

Delicious chocolaty and nutty tonka beans with beast performance. It also has a nice amount of spices (cinnamon and saffron mostly) and a dry and dark woody base. Overall it’s a nice powerful scent for gourmand lovers. But be careful if you’re sensitive to coumarin in perfumes, might be a bit “itchy”.

Ho preso il profumo The Merchant of Venice Queen of the Night e ho trovato questa fragranza molto dolce e sensuale con sfumature aromatiche intense e davvero gradevoli. Mi è piaciuto moltissimo e anche il mio fidanzato ha notato che avevo cambiato profumo e ha gradito tanto.

Ho amato sin da subito questa fragranza e non potevo scegliere diversamente vista la mia passione per i profumi e per l’Egitto ! È molto persistente e lascia la scia durando tutto il giorno ! Lo consiglio vivamente a chi come me ama i profumi di lusso

@Fairygemini your nose is broke, or you’re not smelling Queen of the Night!! The saffron, amber, and tonka got me in a choke hold. It’s so good! There are vanillic nuances that come through in the dry down and then just lingers. 10/10 for me!

Un profumo sofisticato che si apre con le note dello zafferano e si conclude con l’essenza della cannella. Speziato, legnoso, dolce e sensuale, rimane sulla pelle per ore. Una fragranza, a mio parere, perfetta per l’inverno.

This is a 1:1 of Babycat in the opening and mid with one exception in that Babycat has a spiciness to it. With this having no spice, it allows you to focus more on the amber and tonka. Absolutely delicious!

Had no experience with this brand and kept avoiding it due to the bad longevity. But, this thing is amazing, addictive, warm, cozy!!! Love it! The bottle is very beautiful.

The saffron in the opening is a bit strong but the dry down makes me feel like I’m cocooned in a luxe cashmere blanket.

To me it smells exactly like the old Hypnotic Poison of Dior, nearly 100% the same fragrance.

Diesel meets caramel. That's all I perceive. Smokey fuel, sugar, vanilla. Long lasting.

This fragrance centers on an amber incense accord, built around the idea of ancient Egyptian kyphi. In ancient Egypt, kyphi was a complex incense mixture used in religious rituals, burned at night, and sometimes used in private spaces. It was not a single scent but a composition made from multiple resins, spices, and aromatic materials. Here, kyphi does not appear as a historical reconstruction. Instead, it has been translated into a modern perfume structure built around amber and incense. The scent feels warm and spicy, with a noticeable balsamic depth and a slow, layered development that clearly conveys this atmosphere. Rather than describing the notes in a strict progression, it is easier to describe the overall impression. At first spray, the fragrance carries a faint brightness within the incense structure, slightly reminiscent of lemon. It feels less like an added citrus note and more like the natural brightness coming from the incense materials themselves. Myrrh is used very sparingly. It outlines the incense character without creating smoke or harshness, resulting in a restrained and quietly deep atmosphere. After several hours, as the fragrance settles closer to the skin, frankincense becomes more noticeable. The scent develops a soft, almost creamy texture on skin, possibly linked to sandalwood, along with a subtle suede-like quality. Overall, it is a very refined fragrance. The transitions are delicate and continuous, without any artificial sharpness. Longevity and projection are both strong, making it especially suitable for autumn and winter.

This is a complex one... Queen of the Night opens up very saffron-forward. That leathery nuance is present from the very first moment until the very end- it always stands out. We have a warm, cozy heart of amber, myrrh, tonka, and cinnamon. This heart dries down to an ambery, vanilla-like scent- a sweet one, at times even overly so. It’s sort of creamy but dusty in a way, and don’t forget the presence of saffron alongside that heart of warmth. Then come the twists- blue lotus and kyphi. They most certainly make this one of the most unique fragrances I own. I couldn’t really explain what they smell like, since I had never smelled kyphi before, but it definitely is the essence of this fragrance; it gives it its character and spirit. There is also a mysterious, incense-like note throughout, enhancing the intriguing, ‘something sacred or goddess-like’ impression of this fragrance. However, when I was trying it out for the first time, I couldn’t shake a mental image out of my mind- cement. Something reminiscent of a construction site. I even saw a review afterward that mentioned it smelling like a one-note industrial chemical- and I genuinely smell this sometimes as well. It was incredibly off-putting, but I’ve learned to enjoy the fragrance and sort of shift away from this image- yet it does come back at times. I would say this is mandatory to sample before buying. It’s special. It’s mystical and alluring. Definitely over the top for the warmer months, but in winter it’s a queen- or a king! I do find this to be a unisex fragrance.

The Merchant of Venice is a house I’ve tried many of their offerings from in store, but cannot find a scent that clicks for me; Queen of the Night is no different I’m afraid. It’s a nice enough warm spicy resinous-amber sort of thing, but I just can’t help finding myself getting bored with it. There’s a definite dryness about it, frankincense and myrrh take centre stage with their gentle smoky, almost papery facets being complimented by the dry spiciness of cinnamon rather nicely. From there the dense sweetness of amber and tonka begin to pull you in closer - I don’t really get much saffron if I’m honest. If you’re a lover of resins, this is definitely one to check out. From the notes I thought I would love it, but I don’t. That’s not to say it’s a bad fragrance, it smells great, it just doesn’t scratch that itch for me.

Was gifted this from a family member and immediately was intrigued as it's said to be inspired by Cleopatra, the perfumes she wore and used in her life, as well as Ancient Egypt in general. It's a very oriental scent, that smells extremely smoky and woody with a hint of sweetness. This is no doubt the Kyphi Accord that comes in full steam (or smoke in this instance) ahead. The intensity does dial down quite quickly, so it won't burn your nose but it does have quite a whack to it! The sweetness of the Tonka Bean and Sandalwood, with the warmth of Myrrh and Cinnamon is beautiful. All in all it's a scent that I would recommend for oriental scent lovers.

Nah, no one's nose is broken, we all interpret fragrances differently. There's a rubbery note to my nose as well (kind of like the fleeting petrol/gas note in Shalimar) from the combo of a few heavy incense notes and probably bergamot, which is common.. But once that short lived phase passes this is a beautiful Oriental fragrance. I get the reference to Babycat but there isn't any heavy pepper or suede, this is sweeter and smoother. It's beautiful but the price is a bit much for me, considering it's not an everyday scent, but I bought the lotion and a 5 ml decant and I enjoy it that way.

A dense incensy amber scent, this is a tribute to the kyphi type of incense that was used in ancient Egypt. The scent opens in a dense saffron and cinnamon haze with some slight florals lurking in the background. The heart is mostly the incensy amber. As the perfume settles, it reveals woody notes including sandalwood, tonka bean and myrrh resin. Overall, this fragrance is somewhat evocative, quite reverent and not overtly dark or smoky, which if it were could have added a more feral touch to it. This unisex scent has moderate to strong projection and good longevity. Enjoy!

Ive been wearing this almost the bottle is gone. I thought i would love it but I kinda grew out of it. This is an update of my last reveiw. Yes it smells oriental but its super sweet vanilla creamy scent to it. I would have liked a bit of sour or a bit of pepper to break the sweetness! Just something is missing. Maybe its not complex enough ! Its just an oriental sweet smokey scent! It lasts forever but nothing exceptional. I love the bottle! If you like lira, tuxedo, baby cat, poison, vanilla scents or gourmand scents then go for it. I wont be purchasing it again.

She is warm and refined. I thought for sure there was suede in here because it smells like it could be related to Babycat by YSL. Sadly I’m leaving this one behind because it’s mostly unremarkable, even though it smells nice. It doesn’t last very long. Tried it twice and forgot I was wearing it both times.
