Vinegia 21

I can only describe this fragrance in one word: PERFECTION There are TWO Vinegia fragrances, Vinegia and Vinegia 21. The two fragrances have very few similarities and should not be confused. I found Vinegia to be over-bearing and a rather pedestrian masculine take on wood, cedar, agar wood, castoreum and firs (forest) & greens. As others have stated, Vinegia 21 is the polar opposite version of Vinegia. While Vinegia is all I stated above with zero detectable incense, or smokey notes, Vinegia 21 gloriously opens with saffron, cinnamon, vanilla and praline. However within minutes, the sweeter notes take a backseat to the smoothest and loveliest "smokey incense" notes of sandalwood, myrrh, agarwood (oud), patchouli, etc. And this is where the magic lies. Morphing into a fragrance with slightly sweet, earthy and smoky notes (just enough sweet to take the edges off the masculine notes), Vinegia 21 is masterfully blended. There is not one single note that is cloying, overbearing, harsh, or offensive. All the notes & levels from opening, to mid, to base are smooth. Notes seamlessly and effortlessly rise and fall in perfect harmony with each other. The end sum of the notes is a lovely & unique fragrance. The praline and vanilla in Vinegia 21 are not overly gourmand. The woods and resins are never dirty, vulgar, or off-putting. The smokey-ashy notes are not of the acrid, campfire, or dirty ashtray type. Every note is simply divine. I imagine based on one's chemistry, various notes might play louder than others. However on my skin, Vinegia 21 repeats as a delightful incense, patchouli, smoky and slightly sweet fragrance. Just lovely. And while Vinegia 21 markets as unisex, I find this fragrance leans slightly feminine. Longevity is great at 8+ hours and silage is moderate. After sampling this fragrance on a few occasions, I bought my full bottle. The bottle of course is beautiful; however it's what's inside the bottle that truly delights. Not inexpensive @ approximately $265 USD/100 ml, I will be wearing Vinegia 21 for quite some time to come.

Tested this during a recent holiday in a shop in Rome and it’s unbelievable good. Opulent and sophisticated! The composition is a harmonious balance of sweetness, fruitiness, and depth. It’s a rich, thick patchouli, oud, saffron, cinnamon, vanilla and praline bomb of a scent. Luxurious as it can get. Delicious and deep, sweet and ambery! A bit incency as well! Right for wearing it during the fall season! Unique and unisex, slightly feminine I would say. Very different than what is currently mainstream in perfumery! I don’t own it yet but from about 10 fragrances that I’ve tried that trip repeatedly, this one is the most memorable and the most intense. It’s still smelling on the paper strip a week later. I have not sampled all Merchant of Venice offerings but from what I have sampled so far, hands down this is it the one for me. Not my favourite bottle from their spectacular collection of bottles, but the best juice. Fantastic longevity and projection! Pricey but worth it! My boyfriend likes it as well which is rare for him to like something on the spot. He’s really fussy about fragrances. Can’t wait to add this beautiful creation to my collection!

Totally addicting, alluring and edible without steering into full-on gourmand. Sweet, but not cloying in any way. Vinegia 21 is a delicious blend of creamy, spicy, woody notes layered together in a perfectly balanced, refined and exquisite way. The smoky incense and dry woods create a counterbalance to the sticky, balsamic resins and vanilla preventing it from being sickly and instead adding powerful depth. A chocolatey patchouli and oud become the stars of the show as Vinegia 21 makes its way through a long, embracing dry down where it continues to project beautifully for hours. The main thing which fascinates me about Vinegia 21 is the metallic, concrete nuances which truly resemble the essence of an old historical Italian building. I think what I’m smelling is a high quality oud/incense combo. The incense may err on the side of ‘churchy’ for some but I think this works perfectly for what Vinegia 21 represents. This is a solid unisex juice in a stunning bottle and display box, and the story behind its creation makes it that much more special. Lasts 12hrs on skin and a week on clothes- seriously.

Delicious without being gourmand, warm and complex. Vinegia 21 opens with blast of almost citrusy cinnamon and saffron. It then settles into a smooth blend of cinnamon and woody notes, sweet vanilla with a hint of oud. Even with all the sweet and spicy fragrances out there, Vinegia 21 stands out. There's nothing rough or abrasive here. The balance between the vanilla and sweeter notes and the more traditionally masculine woody and spicy notes makes it perfectly unisex. Like all the fragrances in this collection, it has outstanding longevity and good sillage. It does remind me of Xerjoff's Casamorati Bouquet Ideale. Vinegia 21 has less cloves, more cinnamon and is a smoother overall blend. I would recommand Vinegia 21 over Bouquet Ideale.

Very easy to wear, airy, versatile woody-slightly smokey-vanilla scent! Not ground breaking as I have somewhat similar fragrances in my collection but very well blended and the projection is steady throughout the entire longevity (7-8 hours on me solid). To y nose, it reminds me most of a higher end Dark Vanilla by Montale (Montale is an entry level niche house and can be scritchy and bombastic). This one is an aristocrat version of the peasant that's Montale. Love the bottle and for the price (I paid $150) this is the best there is in the genre!!!

This brand can do no wrong, IMO. Every single fragrance I've tried I like or love. Their bottles are aesthetically pleasing also. Vinegia 21 is an absolute stunner. I'm NOT a girl that tolerates oud and saffron well. When I see those notes, I usually run the other way. But I tried this anyway and OMG am I glad that I did. This reminds me a lot of Commodity Milk + with a ton of powdery chocolate praline and a woody (not oud-y though) base. I know chocolate is not a note per se but I smell it. This is absolutely beautiful.

This is so awesome. One of my best blind buys by far! There is definitely a similarity to Arabian Oud Kalamet which I absolutely love and is my signature scent. This is a bit more gourmand though, with a sort of chocolate and pencil shavings feel to it. It’s such a delectable scent and a certain crowd pleaser. I really want to try Arabesque next. I have a feeling I’ll love that one too. This is a new favorite of mine 9.5/10 for me

Vanilla and cinnamon, spicy aroma, with a slight hint of oud. The good thing is that the vanilla is not too sweet and not the one from the packets, but it is very well balanced with the woody notes, refined and embraces you with a warm hug. A wonderful fragrance! Lasts over +10 hours and very complimentary! Аnd i adore it!!! Аlso reminds me a lot of Orchid Leather VCA but Vinegia 21 is slightly sweeter.

Initial review of my sample. Very nice smell, slightly funky oud when you smell it up close but overall smooth and sweet but not overly so. Reminds me of PDM Haltane, tho that one is more dense, smoother Western-style oud and sweeter. I think it leans unisex to slightly masculine. With a few small dabs I can still smell it on my wrist 11 hours in so longevity seems excellent.

Soft, sweet, spiced, warm. This scent does not scream. I peeked and the smells like section and I can admit that this begins in the same space as its comparisons do once they dry down. Over time, this one evolves to praline, vanilla and incense and is making me long for the cool brisket air of winter. So enamored with this house.... 4.3/5

People have no idea that Merchant of Venice Vinegia 21 is one of the best Gourmand scents on the planet and I'm not exaggerating. It's not smack you in the face sweet, but a opulent dessert style while being airy and complex with noticeable transitions that are an experience that anyone into Frags needs to put their nose on

Mmmmmm! That’s a yummy and spicy gourmand scent. Absolutely delicious combo with a heavier woody base. Reminds me of some Eastern style sweets with lots of cinnamon. I also feel like it’s an older sister of Andalusian soul, because it has same vibe, but Vinegia 21 is somewhat darker and deeper. Follow me on ig: scent.guide

This is very similar to Bouquet Ideal with an incense note. I have and love Bouquet Ideal so I don't need this, but it's lovely!

Nice and well blended fragrance. Sweet but still some smoke and woody. Very long lasting glad I picked this up.

Vanilla and little Chocolaty sweet flavored Oud. It smells good but has a weak performance. 7.5/10

This was another love at first sniff fragrance. It’s unique, sweet (but not overly sweet), spicy and long lasting. It’s truly a unisex fragrance leaning more feminine, in my opinion. I can’t get over how delicious it smells. Beautiful notes of praline, cinnamon and vanilla. I smell some light ginger as well even though it’s not mentioned in the notes. Could be the woody notes of agar wood and akigalawood. This is an expensive fragrance but worth the price as it’s very long lasting (all day on my skin and few days on clothes) and leaves a beautiful scent trail. I haven’t smelled anything like this!

This is what I expected Byredo Rouge Chaotique to smell like, maybe a bit sweeter. The Byredo one is more herbal, and I can sense the good quality, but this one smells really good and I like it. Honestly, I prefer this one over Rouge Chaotique because it’s sweeter, more interesting, mysterious, and kind of romantic and it’s cheaper too. Would I buy a bottle? I’m not sure. The bottles are cute, so I’ll think about it. Overall, I’d describe this fragrance as romantic, sensual, and provocative, perfect for a date night for any gender. Definitely fall and Winter scent.

Absolutely wonderful. Even though the notes are not exactly the same, it strongly resembles Montale's Dark Vanilla- a fragrance I own and enjoy. The saffron has a very leathery character and blends beautifully with the vanilla (these are the two most prominent nuances), along with the other notes. All the bottles from this house are extremely charming to me as well.

This smells so similar to Gold incense by Carolina Herrera. I love gold incense.....I just wish that I could have gotten something more unique for that kind of money. It’s still a great fragrance though, if you already have one you don’t need the other

I love this scent profile, but why is it SOO transparent? I smell either Ambroxan or amber Xtreme almost immediately before any of the advertised notes. Sadly, my first impression of this fragrance is synthetic and super safe. I was really hoping for something more elevated. This is something I'd expect to be sitting on the shelf next to Paco Rabanne or Carolina Herrera. Vague sweetness and spice that sits very close to the skin Despite my disappointment, I am still excited to explore this line.

I find this delightful. The saffron oud and patchouli are the main players on my skin. Praline as a top note might lead you to expect a lot of sweetness but on me it’s a little on the sharper side, probably due to the incense. I’d say it’s unisex, a little evening-ish. I’m wearing during daytime too but probably would not use in an office as it might be a little heavy handed for that situation.

Incredible smell BUT the longevity and the sillage are huge dissapointments. I cannot even talk about the performanca because there is NOT any. I am incredibly regretful buying this. Seems like the price comes from the fancy package and the bottle.

The First time I smelled Vinegia 21 was during my travel to Europe. It immediately reminded of a similar fragrance I owned back home but I wasn't able to exactly pinpoint to which that was. So, I got a small sampler spray and checked it against my collection once back. Bam! It was very similar to Penhaligon's Cairo. Now are they exactly same ? No. But, they are very similar. To the extent that if you have one, you definitely don't need the other. There are 2 main differences I could tell: 1) Vinegia 21 has Praline in its top notes that stands out in the first 5-10 minutes of spraying. However, after that it mellows down and then Saffron, Cinnamon, Vanilla, Agarwood and Incense becomes more prominent. After the first 5-10 minutes, the Praline note mellows down to a sweeter accord and it smells very very similar to Penhaligon's Cairo. Check the notes for yourself and you will see why they would smell so similar. 2) On the flip side, Vinegia 21 is not as strong as Cairo. It is a weaker sibling of the Penhaligon. I sprayed both on my wrists as well as on tester strip. The Vinegia 21 was quicker to turn to a skin scent in about two hours or so. Cairo on the other hand, had solid projection and sillage for couple more hours. Same performance on tester strip. For the price, between Vinegia 21 and Cairo, the latter is a much better option. It is more lasting, similar notes except for Praline vs Bulgarian Rose in top notes, more readily available (on a comparative basis), and has a stronger projection and sillage. So for those who want Vinegia 21 but are unable to readily get your hands on it or feel it's above budget, consider Penhaligon's Cairo.

So, I may as well be the first one to review Vinegia 21. Having only discovered The Merchant of Venice this year, it has quickly become one of my favourite houses. I blind bought Andalusian Soul that really made me happy, then Fenicia, an absolute stunner, best blind buy ever, so when I read a really complimentary review on here done by Sandra, and looking at the notes I love, I felt like it could be another safe blind buy. And it was. Vinegia starts on a spicy note of cinnamon and chocolate praline with a hint of saffron. Saffron, even though only hinted stays present for a long time and it’s a really lovely sensation. After a short while, all the other notes join, and they are so perfectly blended none of them stands out. Just when I catch a whiff of oud, it turns into saffron, just when I detect vanilla, sandalwood emerges, which subtly turns back into praline and saffron. Then I seem to catch a nuance of incense, but patchouli, this smooth, friendly patchouli is right next to it. It almost feels like a chase after notes, with all of them being important, but none standing out, it’s so masterfully blended. A lovely fragrance. I will also add that all five fragrances I have from TMOV have one unifying quality: they are smooth, soothing, so pleasant and easy do wear and so very enjoyable. I’ll definitely be trying all the other ones from their collection. Very, very happy!

Presentation great , is this niche perfumery well borderline. I was expecting more it smells great but it doesn't project of the skin as much as I thought it would. This is my first purchase from this house i paid half price for it and that's what I would say its worth. The bottle alone is very unique and high quality but I can't help feeling this is more designer than niche if I put my nose on it in boots for example I would think ok but if it was in harrods I would think mmm its ok but doesn't blow me way. I will be testing in cold weather and let it also sit in the bottle for a few months and see how it develops. The bottle design and packaging get full marks the bottles are really high quality and really expensive looking. I also ordered arabesque its arriving tomorrow so I can't wait to try that. Overall 7 out of 10

Date night fragrance. Extremely attractive smell. Definitely a complement monster. If that’s all you care about, this is the one. My recommendation. But, for people who want a more interesting and characterful scent experience, this isn’t it. This is not niche perfumery. There is hardly any “art” going on here, aside from the beautiful bottle. Not particularly unique or interesting, but this type of scent doesn’t have to be. Well blended, good quality. This is an extremely effective tool, a means to an end. That’s all this it is. Fantastic sillage and longevity. Delicious dry down. Sex appeal in a bottle. Not for me, but definitely for someone else.

This is a bomb of spices and gourmand notes with a woody drydown and a fresh patchouli note. I get a ton of saffron and cinnamon on my skin. The praline and vanilla develops later and stay until the late drydown. There is a very little patchouli that feels fresh and subtle. The woody notes are present but not too heavy, I don't get much oud here. If there is any Oud it has to be a very subtle and clean smelling type. This is a seductive scent, very well done and the bottle is amazing.

Got this today and was soooo exiting . But I m not happy with this sent. I have arabesque by the same house and I absolutely in love with it. So I decided to explore more porfumes . Reviews are amazing . Probably I dont like insence in fragrances . I'm so sad with my blind buy . It has a very high quality vanilla and smoky atmosphere. I think this smell reminded me of the smell that comes from making organic strawberry jam over a wood fire, due to the pyralin note. The taste and smell when I put the sooty strawberry grain left in that pot into my mouth. And finally a perfect dry vanilla.

This is definitely similar to bouquet ideale and to raghba, maybe a touch more emphasis on the vanilla. This doesn’t smell expensive or anything groundbreaking. It’s decent. I prefer other vanilla based frags

I can’t get enough of this deep, vanilla, wood, praline gorgeousness!! It’s in my top 5 for life! I would like to know who the perfumer is so I can check out other fragrances. Anyone know?

Don’t waste your money on this. Get raghba or raghba wood intense. If you smelt those first you’d be very underwhelmed smelling this!

This smells like Lattafa Artisan Et. It’s a gourmand perfume that is perfect for winter.
