Water Therapy

Notes listed on The Nue Co. website: Top - seaweed, bergamot Heart - fig, rose Base - vetiver, sandalwood, salt It opens like a cool splash, fresh & floral, but to my nose it's not heady roses, it's lighter - maybe a soft white blossom in the rosid clade, with a hint of crisp fruit? Then as it evolves the salt note starts to really shimmer. It's a skin-warmed salt scent, not briny but glowing, inviting. On me, it lasts a good 6+ hours or so. I do find this a truly relaxing & refreshing fragrance, perfect for summer, an aquatic refuge from the heat & buzz. Vacation in a bottle? I love it!

i love this. for me, at least my bottle, it’s heavy on the cardamom - it’s spicy, with a hint of cool marine saltiness. if you’ve ever been in rural newfoundland by the water, on the rocks, it’s exactly like that. a bit of floral peeks through too, really completing this fragrance. it smells like there’s a eucalyptus or camphor note somewhere in there too, but i don’t see any listed anywhere.

I’ve never really been anything other than a gourmand or floral person, but suddenly I’ve been craving aquatic and after trying a few I found this— and it’s fantastic! The salt stands out the most for me, and this lasts a few hours on me. This might be full bottle worthy.

I love this now! I had tried it in cold weather and liked it, but I just put some on in the afternoon heat of a sunny spring day and I LOVE it and I WANT it!

This is an interesting fragrance! I grew up by the sea, which evokes scent memories from those places. While it leans masculine, it is a comforting blend of salt, seaweed, and something else -- maybe the cardamom but it doesn't smell like a true cardamom from my spice box. The seaweed is fresh, not the stinky Pacific kelp type. I may ask my husband to try it. I don't smell the rose note and it gives me the idea to pair it with a rose scent. It's different, for sure. I want to like it.

One of the few scents I've tried where I not only don't enjoy it, but I feel actively repulsed by it. Goodness, this has an absolutely nauseating "stinkbug-esque" rank smell immediately after application and it haunts the fragrance even after mostly dying down. It is mostly an average marine scent, save for that one very funky note (maybe the seaweed?) I think it's the same note that another individual compared to camphor, but to me it smells far less tolerable than camphor. I do not like this at all and I'm going to try to sell it...

Water Therapy continues The Nue Co. tradition of trying to brand their fragrances as scientific, mood enhancing concoctions that are purportedly backed by research. I remain skeptical on the validity of their claims, but I do think they have an effective brand, website, and marketing approach. Since I'm more interested in the scent itself I'll move on. Water Therapy opens with a fresh blast of salty aquatic notes mixing with a strong lingering alcohol tinge for the first minute. As this subsides, the fresh aquatic notes remain, and a very relaxed floral (rose I guess) component and very present and realistic seaweed note start to move into the picture. The seaweed note is impressively life like, and captures it almost to the point where this could be too photorealistic for some...but this stage does not last into the drydown and falls back nicely into the blend. I don't experience the cardamom out front, but searching for it I think it adds a slight depth/spice to the composition. Beyond this salt/seaweed stage, which is by far the most unique stage of the experience, Water Therapy becomes a soft, yet very pleasant sandalwood and very light vetiver by the end. As the top and heart wear off and blend into the base notes, I think this a very enjoyable and smooth experience for a summer fragrance that nicely maintains a natural experience throughout. It does not wow, but every stage is pleasant and I have not regretted wearing it yet. The performance is the lightest out of all the Nue scents I've tried, but I think it's overall successful and could be a great scent for those who want a non-intrusive personal scent. Water Therapy fits nicely into the Nue Brand, and I respect how gender neutral all of their offerings are. Marketing aside, and if price were no object, I'd probably go with something like Heely Sel Marin (although that is more masculine) over this for a full bottle, but I'm happy to own a travel spray of Water Therapy. Bonus points that my fragrance sensitive partner enjoys this.
