Gypsy Rose

Tried this as a sample, but it didn't blow me away. It's a dusty rose-patchouli. Smells a bit like rose petals that have fallen onto a bed of autumn leaves. Longevity is good, but wasn't really what I was looking for! It's very similar to a lot of the other Saltworks rose scents.

I received a free sample of Gypsy Rose from The Saltworks (which was very kind of them) and I was so looking forward to testing it. So I did, and perhaps I was sent a sample from a different batch to the other reviewers or maybe it was just from a bad batch, but I cannot detect any rose at all. I get mostly patchouli (which isn't listed in the ingredients) and some oakmoss and citrus, (which may be bergamot) - but rose? Not even a little bit. I would genuinely recommend trying it if you are a Goth, but otherwise, please don't blind buy this perfume.

A very realistic tea rose opening, not sweet. The bayleaf top note is gorgeous. There's something green and herbaceous about this scent, like gentle petrichor in the forest. After a couple of minutes I can detect woody notes, blackcurrant, and the faintest cinnamon warmth in the background. It's sophisticated, earthy. I find this to be slightly less strong than other Saltworks perfumes, the projection is quite minimal. I find I need to spray quite a bit. Easily unisex. Edit: Over time I am really warming to this. Initially I was not sure it was for me, but I am actually beginning to appreciate how natural and mossy this smells without all the jammy sweetness that is so common is rose perfumes. There's something foresty about it that is comforting to me. I think it could be one for layering with other more basic rose fragrances to create depth. It remains all day as a subtle skin scent, the dry-down is gorgeous and blackcurranty. While i'm not usually that interested in high sillage, I do wish this had slightly more than it does.

A softer, more feminine Couche du Diable. Very nice, but may as well buy the real deal at these prices.
