Lady Marmalade

Finally Fragrantica has added this one! It's one of my favourites, a perect mix of caramel, sugar and orange. The orange starts out sharp, before eventually mellowing into a rich, almost sugared orange that is exactly like it's namesake, marmalade. It's perfect for both Autumn and Summer and has great longevity, lasting most of the day.

This is one of their better perfumes. But it is not for everyone. Whilst I like it's smell it does get a little cloying after a while. Caramelised dried orange, very sweet at opening and then dries down to perfectly match it's name - marmalade. Dry down smells like good quality marmalade with patchouli to add a little kick. Not for me, but it is an interesting, albeit a little simple, composition.

From the racy title, I was expecting so much more. I don't hate Lady Marmalade; I neither like nor dislike it. Another boring waste of time from Saltworks, but it's not as idiotic and vacuous as Ko Meme, which is why I don't hate it. Another reason why I don't hate it, is because of it's lack of ingredients, which sounds odd. It contains just three simple things; citrus, caramel and patchouli. Saltworks have squeezed so much scent out of those three scent notes, that the act of doing so becomes it's saving grace, which keeps it out of my hatred zone. For sure, it is as boring as watching grass grow, but three scent notes making such an olfactory racket, gives it a good yoink up the ladder, out of my hatred zone, and into the zone that I neither like nor dislike. It does let you down from it's title; Lady Marmalade for me should be a kinky, sexy, fruity orange-based scent, with perhaps some leather and aldehydes. But instead, it goes for more of a generic citrus smell, which becomes difficult to decipher, as the caramel and patchouli are so shouty and loud. It's OK. Again, not the finest work of Saltworks, but not embarrassingly wank like Ko Meme is. 3/10. The simple construction performing like it does gets it a humble three points. But it's still boring.

Soft orange marmalade from start to finish. It opens with that proper vintage bitter-orange smack, then quickly settles into a warmer, sweeter, very linear orange glow. Have to say, longevity isn't the best with this one, and it is super gentle in the drydown — basically a mild citrus skin-scent - but it is very nice. For me, it doesn't quite have enough substance to be a daily wear. It is not a main character, but it does makes for a fab little layering lift. Edit: A late addition after a couple of wears, this has a very late heavy patchouli note. Sadly, that doesn't work with my skin chemistry, so definitely recommend a sample first!
