Abjar

News Headline: Abjar is a leathery cyphre. Its cypress, oud, natural civet, a touch of incense and perhaps some birch tar are the main player. There are other notes in play but those mentioned are the stars of the show. As reference for those familiar with Baz, Abjar is a more leathery version of baz. Now to get into the weeds. I have some Dehn Al Oudh / Kasab Al Oud (aka aged oud) in my collection. These are often among the most expensive fragrance I own. To some oud lovers they are the pinnacle (Kalakasi Oud from ASQ as an example). These ouds often come off leathery. In fact, the "leather" smell that Abjar emits is spot on with the concentrated aged ouds that i have. I would suggest the leather smell in Abjar is powered by aged oud. My take: As an oud lover, I really like it, there is more artistry and depth than aged oud alone. Its not for everyone since oud and civet especially at these concentrations aren't in fashion in the west. Its well blended but in the context where Sauvage and Aventus dominate western noses. Abjar might be perceived as challenging today but would suggest it wouldn't in yester-year. Its not a night club scent but for events where you want to stand out among the popular fresh scents. Abjar vs Baz: Abjar is more concentrated, more dark and well suited for fall/winter. I wouldn't call Baz light but lighter than Abjar. Baz has more nuances, more of the notes show themselves and is step toward more western. Baz would also be great in Fall/Winter could easily be pulled off in spring as well. Summary: A little goes a long way. Abjar easily projects arms length at full strength and those 6 to 10 feet away will get wafts and sense your wearing something. I do think its repetitive if you already own Baz since they overlap so much. Longevity is amazing. Nikhil touched on this below but I concur and will take it a step further in saying, I think the entire Spirit of Dubai second generation stuff is among the best commercially perfume available. The quality is tops! Scent - Subjective but 5/5 for me. Projection - 5/5 Longevity - 5/5

Abjar is pretty niche in my opinion. Obviously it doesn’t aim to please the masses. It’s a scent for the wearer himself imposing himself on everyone. Like it or not that category has a customer base and I’m one of them. For too long the fragrance market has been driven by mass appealing inoffensive trends. This isn’t offensive in the middle east perhaps in some parts of Asia, Europe or America but not here. So I’m happy we have a proper leather chypre with a sillage that punches anyone within distance. I’m glad someone was brave enough to release something that would deter many a buyer but would be a favorite for many others. The scent is a leathery animalic chypre with hints of oud. It’s majestic in its presence due to its sheer boldness and the extreme at which this scent is authentic to oud, leather saddles and a little sweat from a humid night in the desert. For those in the west think of it as Arabian Cowboy. Meydan which was the first generation inspiration for this is also excellent however this pushes more into that authentic retro Arabian feel where Meydan is the mall friendly version this is what you would wear for a midnight ride on your horse racing your friends and foes under the moonlight.

Sample of the Night is Abjar by The Spirit of Dubai I had the opportunity to sample this one earlier tonight. I sampled 3 other fragrances as well but #Abjar definitely overpowered the other fragrances. Not the best night to sample fragrances but definitely worth it😍. When I first sprayed Abjar, I disregard it immediately as the opening is not the greatest here but after about an hour, I was picking up this Leathery Tobacco note and immediately glued my nose to the point where I had sprayed Abjar. I was surprised as how this fragrance changed from being the scent of "Pan Masalaa" to something this gorgeous 😍😍. This is definitely luxurious. Very rich, refined and just blended to perfection. Florals, spices, woody and smoky. As the fragrance settles more notes like Pine, Oud, Musk, Saffron and Tonka. This is my first time wearing this fragrance and I am madly in love with this one.

Imagine a scent that is so complicated so well rounded that each wear will surprise you in a different way. Imagine a chypre that's equal to diaghilev and imagine the best leather in the game. That is abjar. A perfume can't get any better then this but for experienced noses only. It's not skanky or daring in anyway Infact is quite a mass pleaser but the experienced noses will enjoy it like it was meant to be enjoyed, a leathery chypre 2 words but yet so complicated that it'll knock your socks off. A must sample for all the chypre and oriental lovers out there . Please do sample it before saying it's overpriced then decide have you sniffed anything so beautiful so complicated and well rounded ever before? Performance : easy 12 hours Projection : it's a monster Sillage : again a monster that will leave people surprised.

Narotic. Sensual. Outwordly. This is one of the best commmercially available luxurious perfumes. A deep, complex yet refreshing scent full of musks, deep rich florals, spices and Oud. Start with a musky chypre scent dark damp and Oudy. The fine animalic musks make it vintage in appeal. Later on the florals rise with a beautiful smoky saffron. The animalic tone down and then rise the gorgeous deer musk. Extremely rich and refined. It's not for casual compliment seekers. Definitely for the mature crowd with the moolah. Price is way too much. But you won't find a blend like this these day. The only thing which beats it for half the price is Siberian Musk by Areej le Dore which utlises legally sourced musk. But this is definitely spectacular. Great longevity with a comfortable projection and heavy sillage.

This is the Baz on steroids. Its a massive fragrance in every way. I walked into a library wearing Abjar and all the heads turned as they felt the wafts of something extraordinarily beautiful. But this could be used like an attar. A tiny swipe on the sleeve is all that you need unless you want everyone to turn their heads in your direction. The list of ingredients of Abjar reads like who is who in the fragrance industry. Its animalic, amber, incense & mild smoke, leather. The role of florals is just to soften the animalic leather. Buy the 5 ml sample of Abjar from the Spirit of Dubai or do visit their shop to try Abjar. If you are into very strong leathery animalic fragrances you are going to love this. The creativity seen in Abjar is mind blowing.

Opening for me is a large citrus blast with emphasis on orange. It has an effervescent quality like getting your nose up close to a soft drink. I am reminded of mixing orange liqueur with sprite. There are so many notes that I seem to pick up something new each time. It dries down to a masculine fougere but with a very modern interpretation. It's very strong and high quality, lasting 8+ hours on my skin - but for those 8 hours it's belting out notes like a fireworks display. The few minutes after the opening blast is where it shines.

Well blended dirty horsy smell kind, and very musky tho. But I love it and can't stop sniffing my wrist 🙂

Magnificent incense leather bomb with that classic 80s chypre base. If you are a fan of the old days powerhouses,(Kourus, Antaeus, Balenciaga PH, etc) you need to try this. (Plus big green incense and a slight middle eastern twist) everything of superb quality, there’s more than 450 ingredients in the formula of this behemoth. Big, bold, doesn’t ask for your approval, doesn’t fear war scenarios, like a proper horse does, never holds back. Always, always Brave. There’s a lot to say about this one. Leathery, oudy, smoke, incense, green, dry, tobacco, green.

Bought a sample from ScentSplit. I like it, but it's a *very* light and delicate leather fragrance, barely noticeable and way closer to a skin scent than to a perfume. Longevity is ok, several hours, but projection is non existent

Abjar is kind of the runt of the Second Generation Spirit of Dubai family. It is cloying. The Second Generation fragrances are sweeter and richer than the First Generation, which are mostly over-the-top Safranal, oud, quinoline, suede big-loud-Arabic fragrances. They obviously went with a different perfumer for the second generation, and this is the most apparent example of that. Abjar is pretty, syrupy, and candy smelling, like a rich classic Mugler.

Spirit of Dubai is a line of fragrances that appears to have been engineered to appeal to the type of people who go to shopping websites and sort by "price: high to low." The packaging and bottle presentation exude pure excess--surprising only for their absence of LED lighting, animatronics, and atomizer-clogging gold leaf flakes. The scent pyramid is exhaustive--we're talking hundreds of muddled ingredients (most of which are undetectable as discrete notes). And the performance...suffice it to say that you shan't go unnoticed. Spirit of Dubai practices "more is more" perfumery...and their second generation of perfumes is as subtle, sensible, and tasteful as a lime green Huracan with canted wheels and aftermarket ground effects. Abjar is an over-the-top leathery chypre that explodes off the skin, heaving itself into an enormous sillage trail while leaving relatively little of itself in the wearer's immediate proximity. That, my friends, is a recipe for carpet bombing your friends and co-workers, if not your entire ZIP code. (Luckily, it's a reasonably pleasant scent, but apply with caution.) Wearing Abjar in public is akin to screaming, "LOOK AT ME--I'M RICH!" but the problem is that even serious fragheads aren't likely to recognize this scent unprompted. So, you're declaring your affluence at the top of your lungs but nobody can understand what you're trying to convey. Which is kind of sad when you really think about it. 3/10.

Abjar, in Arabic literature, is the faithful horse that follows the poet Antar on his many adventures, including the most famous one to win his love Abla. A valiant, loyal horse with virtues that hark back to other times, as indeed this fragrance aims to do. The notes are so many, but especially the leathery scents are highlighted, which with those of Oud create a perfect blend, enriched by some honey. At times impetuous, like the Abjar horse, at times creamy, reflecting a splendid pure and unbreakable bond. I find it one of the most pleasant and wearable fragrances in this line, with Oud as the undisputed protagonist. Perhaps most masculine, distinctive and elegant. "Antar with his horse Abjar" represented in so many depictions of the Arabian world.

The opening of Abjar is anything but "light" or "delicate". And its challenging. I know noses vary and it's all subjective, but to me the opening of Abjar smells like a bandaid that has been yanked off the butt of a yak after a few weeks. Animalics and smoky leather simply do not smell good. But into the drydown, the animalics recede and the creamier, sweeter ambers and balsams emerge to smooth out the entire wear. But there are lots of smoky, creamy leather scent profiles out there. Bad opening and undistinguished but wearable drydown isn't a winner for me. I like Turath though, with its more prominent fruity accords..

I gave my boyfriend a bunch of fragrance samples from various niche houses that I had hoarded. After a sniff test, this is the only one that he demanded go directly into the garbage. He never wants to smell this again, and I agree. Absolutely horrible.

My god!!!! What more can you ask for in a perfume? It has everything. It's well worth every penny
