SOTN: 🇦🇪 BAZ (Nabeel-The Spirit Of Dubai) 🇦🇪 Baz from the Arab House Nabeel of the United Arab Emirates is part of the Second Generation of the Exclusive Line The Spirit Of Dubai, it is an Oriental Leather Woody Spicy Amber Smoky Unisex perfume with a masculine inclination. It was released in 2017. Baz is a hymn to classic chypre perfumes and masterfully embodies the brand's Arabian roots. The animalic characteristics perfectly combined by a masterful construction, giving the composition the right dose of extravagance; combining rich, spicy and woody elements to create a multifaceted and unforgettable olfactory experience, which exudes sophistication and depth. The fragrance already unfolds with a leathery, resinous, fruity, spicy, sweet, bold and seductive combination dominated by leather, plum, coriander and pepper, creating a spicy, rubbery introduction that captivates the nose. This initial accord is further enhanced by a unique blend of aldehydes, spices, coniferous woods, a steam of arabica coffee with cardamom and nutmeg, a sweet saffron, red fruits in evidence, and all this seasoned with cloves, cinnamon and honey, adding warmth, complexity and a touch of mystery to this already complex opening. This complexity, as usual in this line, makes it impossible to identify all ingredients in isolation. At the heart of this composition, a rich earthy and smoky accord by the mixture of birch and steaming incense with resins takes center stage, creating a deep and smoky core. These notes are complemented by the luxurious floral elegance of carnation, rose and jasmine mainly. The golden sweetness of the honey softens all this intensity a little, adding a delicate balance to the fragrance. The animalic side with this honey note forms a pleasant accord, which is followed by more woody and leather elements, developing an elegant opulent character. I don't see any difficulties in this animalic leathery content, but Baz is an ode to leather perfumes. The base notes provide a warm and sensual base, with the striking protagonism of an Indian 'oud with a leathery resinous facet intertwining with a classic animalic trio of civet castoreum musk, but I didn't find it super challenging. A slightly balsamic touch and a fine tobacco mist reinforces the smoky character of the fragrance, which also has patchouli and vetiver with its earthy green tones. Towards drying, more noble woods arrive, adding more depth. Vanilla and tonka form a sweet and traditional ambery accord leaving an impression of polished and refined finish. Despite its unusual nature, the fragrance is extremely pleasant and easy to wear for perfume connoisseurs with 'oud and smokey leather in the spotlight.

Wow that was my Wedding scent, Spirit Of Dubai Baz it's a Masterpiece! My favorite scent in my collection, Opulent, Classy, Complex, Sophisticated. ! Here you got a Super High Quality Ingredients! Definitely only for connoisseurs in the perfumery, i call the Oriental Diaghilev, Less Animalic than Diaghilev but more complex and Enjoyable Scent, its Hard to describe all the nuances that you got when you are wearing the scent, because all the notes, but I would have to describe this scent from my personal experience and every time I've put it on, It would be like wearing a leather cape with a bright and clean animal( Specifically a Civet) background and the oud is located at the bottom of the composition supporting the weight of all the evolutions of the perfume but always having the dark background only reserved for the oud that gives it strength. After 40 minutes i feel a smoky olibanum incense rises along with some fruity/honey notes that naturally gives the fragrance another meaning but feels so different from what one is used to smelling certainly, and when I mention it with diaghilev it is because both fragrances go in the same direction but they are not the same and neither is inspired by the other, they are simply there sharing nuances, but if I had to stay with only one fragrance in my life, with a fragrance that makes me feel the classiest man in my life having tried things like ALD, EO BORTKNIKOFF, and many other things (you know where my olfactory experience goes) without a doubt Baz would be above everything I've tried but it's because of how this one makes me feel. Here it brings together so many olfactory experiences in a single fragrance that it is as if you had smelled several perfumes with different compositions and that you have mixed them in the same liquid until the symphony is perfectly synchronized, it is like a journey in which you only have to let yourself be carried away by the path of truth and truth is made up of what is well done. The scent itself is a 1000/10.

Baz, the desert falcon, is a very captivating scent. Its core is fresh, sweet and very deep and whilst most of its emphasis is undoubtedly centred around the base notes of falcon leather, sandalwood, smoked olibanum, tobacco and vetiver, many different and busy facets enrich this magnificent offering. There is sufficient citrus-herbal zest and freshness emanating from an aldehydic sparkle to invigorate the sweetness and kick from fruits and culinary spices (including a marvellous rich golden saffron note) found in Middle Eastern cuisine and drink. A rather wonderful, very sensual and exotic floral bouquet of orchid, carnation, lily of the valley, ylang ylang, jasmine, tuberose, rose, and geranium blossoms from a few hours in and is supplemented as well as contrasted by warming woods, balsamic resins and a seemingly never ending, supple, deep and muscular base. Baz is a very interesting fragrance in that it implements multiple contrasting accords that expand the scope of the fragrance all the while it continues to stand uncompromisingly for its desert heritage. And immediately, without smelling remotely like it, in terms of how Baz wears I feel reminded of a vibe similar to how Puredistance M unmistakably introduces itself by clarifying its status right off the bat: that barely restrained tension of the sinews of an overwhelming but benevolent force; the effortless precision of an elegant hunter; and the irrepressible drive of an alpha predator are all there. Baz does reassert the aura and status of its wearer and demands respect and attention. But above all, despite its seriousness, this is a very high quality scent that's fun to wear!

Baz is an amazing study in contrasts. At its base is a brilliant leather/incense/oud that anchors this fragrance, continually coming and going as the scent endures. And boy does it endure--endlessly. It also projects--a lot. So at base, Baz is a fantastic leather scent. But is is so much more than that. It is a symphony of contrasting notes. Sweet fruits, smoky resins, pungent saffron and a deep, dark earthy note all make appearances. Look at the giant note pyramid on this page. Are all of those notes in this fragrance? Who can tell. But whatever contributes to this exquisite blend, the results are among the very best scents on the market today, IMHO. It is easy to dismiss Spirit of Dubai. The prices they charge are extortionate. The descriptions they publish for their fragrances border on the unpardonably pretentious. And, with this second collection from the house, the presentation takes Dubai bling to the point of silliness. However, the stuff in the goofy, over the top bottle (which looks, to my eye, like something that might be awarded after a school field day as a participation trophy) is fantastic. Dare I suggest it is even worth the money? For me, the answer is definitely yes. If you get a chance, and you like very complex fragrances, sample this masterwork. I recommend Baz as strongly as possible, particularly for folks who enjoy rich, leathery scents.

This is a magical, wonderfully complex spiced leather with fruity accords. The oud is clean and pleasant, not skanky at all. Baz to me conveys the image of a man who know his oxfords from his derby shoes and prefers monogramed french cuff shirts. It is decadent yet elegant. Effortlesly oppulent with amazing performance. Lasts days if not weeks on clothes. One thing I will note is that Spirit of Dubai no longer offer their original presentation with the podium that opens up to display the fragrance. Now they come in a windowed, foam lined box inside a larger box. A step backwards in my opinion as I was expecting the presentation on every other picture out there and then was sorely disappointed to the extreme of considering sending it back. But curiosity won me over as it was a blind buy and that intoxicating scent made me forget about the new presentation faux pas. Yes, the note breakdown is a bit ridiculous but none of that matters when it hits your nostrils. Try a sample and shop smartly. I got mine for about $530.

Baz is pure unadulterated filthy luxury in a bottle, it’s dirty and raunchy yet ever so smooth and elegant in its own way. It’s dominated by a brutally rich and pungent leather accord alongside a sharp, urinous and almost sour civet note. This animalistic leather is elevated by spicy hints of cardamom and black pepper, alongside smoky elements of resins and incense. This smokiness in turn is strengthened by birch, with rich earthy notes of castoreum and oud taking this further. On the other side of this dark brooding affair, the intense juicy nature of plum and sparkly aldehydes provide a shimmer of light amongst all this which balances everything beautifully. The focus on civet and leather does remind me a little of Diaghilev, but other than that the scent heads in a totally different direction. It’s still got that filth and eroticism, but with its own distinct Middle Eastern twist. Incredible scent.

This is currently one of if not my favorite fragrances from my entire collection. If you are a fan of jubilation 25 man or Spirit of Dubai turath you will love this one. The woods in it remind of the woods in Xerjoff Richwood. I don’t know where to start with this review the blend of notes is absolutely amazing. It truly has it all, I get hints of fruity notes, rose, florals with spices, woods, oud, musk, leather, sweet vanilla & honey. This fragrance really takes you on a scent journey! The vibe it gives off is manly, wealthy, rich, middle-eastern royalty. The price tag is steep I was lucky to be able to get it for around $630 USD to me it was worth every penny. 10/10 beautiful masterpiece! The projection & performance are beast mode, it will last weeks on clothing. Highly recommend for anyone that has the money for it. You will smell amazing and no one else will smell like you!

A deep dark rich and extremely opulent classical chypre. A complex scent has has many facets thats unfurls itself slowly. Opens up with a dense smoke of olibanum and myrrh. Heart has a lot of tobacco, a vintage floral bouqet with a lot of powderiness, a rich leathery oud, spices and pungent animalics. I get a hefty dose of ambergris and oakmoss in the drydown. This is luxury niche quality here. And is highly reminiscent of Roja s Diaghilev. The price is ridiculous but it will find its gullible buyers. Strictly for colder time but with the quality can be worn on plesant summer evenings. This scent is not for compliments. It is more about comfort.

I think Baz is my favourite from this 2nd generation from Spirit of Dubai. At first I got scary animalic civet and pungent oud with a ton of saffron. But on the skin this becomes a decadently rich golden honey, that glistens with spicy saffron, dried fruits, rose, florals, woods, resins, musk, the smoothest leather and soft vanilla. It’s such a honeycomb of golden resins and balsamic amber caramel. And the dry-down! It’s one of the best dry-downs I’ve ever experienced - a musky, spicy, furry honey. This is a luxurious unisex honey-trap.

This is the best from Spirit of Dubai in my opinion. A spicy oriental heaven! All you can dream of in a fragrance. The only negative is the price, which is ridiculous.

The fragrance opens with top notes of saffron, bergamot, and cinnamon, which give it a warm and spicy start. In the heart, floral notes like rose, jasmine, and orange blossom add a touch of elegance. The base notes include woody accords, amber, and patchouli, providing depth and longevity to the fragrance.

I don’t get the fruity notes on the top at all. I get heavy smoke and incense with myrrh and oud. After a couple hours the sharp incense calms down a bit and I get a more powdery oud with leather undertones. A million notes listed but to what end? I almost blind bought a bottle but got a sample first instead and I’m glad I did. I don’t know who wants to smell like this for the first 3-4 hours.

Ignore the tacky packaging--nobody is going to see it. Ignore any sense of prestige you feel after paying as much as $300/oz--nobody is going to know what you spent. Ignore the official scent pyramid, with its exhaustive index of dozens of ingredients, of which you may be able to detect three or four distinctly. Ignore the histrionics in the online reviews--both good and bad. Just invest $40 in a small decant, apply it judiciously, and focus on the juice. Is this really how you want to smell all day? I won't go as far as other commenters have, but Baz really is a bit of a mess. It's got a musky, leathery open that lasts a few minutes. This quickly transitions to a muddled mess of a core that lingers for hours with minimal evolution. I mean--you might catch a fleeting hint of rose here, nutmeg there, or a wisp of ylang-ylang in your trail; but mostly its a melange of nondescript ingredients that fail to distinguish themselves from the lingering juice-blob that surrounds you. Over the hours, it settles into a drydown that is oh-so-faintly animalic but really just smells like thin honey and dirty hay. Mind you, I prefer a bold fragrance--give me challenging ouds, feral animalics. Give me something bold to flaunt in public, or something nuanced and layered to contemplate in private. Just don't give me a boring, flat, impenetrable wall of scent that's dressed up in pretentious packaging and priced exorbitantly in the hopes that someone will view this as an aspirational luxury item. This is not a safe blind buy. I would not recommend paying anywhere near the full retail price ($895/90mL); personally, I wouldn't even consider paying the deeply discounted rates that can be had online ($~400/90mL). Because if you ignore all the noise, the pomp, the circumstance, the commentary (including mine), and focus on the juice... This simply doesn't smell good. I would rate this as 1/10 but I wish to acknowledge the (anonymous) perfumer for exercising restraint in forgoing the superfluous gold flakes. 2/10.

To anyone who wrote a glowing review of this. If you happen to read these words go back and reread the emperor’s new clothes. Because you are caught up in the hysteria. I will put the TLDR up front. Here is what I get. Armpits, vaginas, powder, stale urine, urinal cake, floral. This is disgusting. I like the first three on my wife under very specific conditions. I do not need to be reminded of what we smell like when we are rutting when we are not mid rut. Who wants to smell like this? There is some very pretty prose written about this fragrance here. I call bullshit. Armpits, vaginas, powder, stale urine, urinal cake, floral. All of this for only $895.00. I am going to need for someone to explain this to me because I do not get this fragrance or the house in general. Why would anyone want to smell like this? Two hours later. This is not a pleasant scent even when the genitalia accord dissipates. Evidently it comes back. Four hours later Christ Almighty I smell like a urine caked toilet and a woman who has been out clubbing all night and freshened up for a late night session of vigorous mutual oral copulation by spraying some FDS. I hate to keep hitting the ladies anatomy button but I am a middle aged married man who dated well into his 40s... I can’t help but notice no perfumer was listed. Makes sense. I wouldn’t want my name associated with this Biohazard either. 20 hours and two showers later it is wearable 🤣🤣🤣

Baz isn't bad. It's pretty good. Rich, opulent, just as you'd expect with a composition with dozens of notes from a Middle Eastern niche house. But make sure you don't rely solely on a paper test blotter. I got nothing but smoky leather when I did that. Then when I actually wore it on skin I got the rich, deep melange of notes. But I wish it had more of a defining direction beyond just the deep, rich melange of a billion notes. It's as if all those notes were just put in a blender and pureed without much artistic direction from the perfumer. Its result is deep and rich as expected and that's good in and of itself. Maybe the smokey Leather is that defining direction though. With a complex supporting cast. It's ever so slightly animalic but not too much though. Just enough to add a bit more character. I like the sweet accords. The plum, cinnamon, sweet notes, amber, etc. and I wish they shared a greater portion of the stage with the smoky Leather. More resinous sweetness and less smoke and Leather would suit me. This is much more than a Spicy Amber fragrance though. It has that facet but there's a Leather chypre facet and more. It shares house DNA with the other Spirit of Dubai fragrance I've tried, Turath. Both rich and opulent with more notes than I can count. But I prefer the fruitier, smoother, less smoky Turath over Baz.
