Majalis

First impressions It could be a Love, it could be a dislike.. I must try it again. The performance of this scent is absolutely stellar. Suitable only for cold weather with a maximum of two sprays. One full spray and you fill a room. The sillage is huge and the projection is gigantic. The only negative is the thick and heavy sweetness which lasts the whole life of this fragrance. It's spices and resins are heavenly, to die for. Incense and tobacco from heaven.. it's so complex and well blended. Other strong and refined notes are olibanum, guaiac wood, cardamom, strawberry, patchouli, honey, peach.. It could be an instant buy if there wasn't this strong sweetness from the dates which look like sometimes with cotton candy and dark caramel. I thought it was a little nauseating so I must try it again to make it sure. If you wash your hands, you can't kill it. Not even with a shower. You will feel it the next day.. Edit/Update Everything in this scent is heavenly good except it's sweetness. So thick, sticky, sickly sweet. Quite nauseating and cloying for my nose. I wanted to like this but it's not for me. It retails here 810 usd per 100 ml. Very good first impression. I must try more from this house but only the base line. Their prices are insane. Update. I noticed that in the shop that I've tried Majalis have replaced the tester although it was almost full 3/4 so I tried it again. Different experience, this time it was not overly sweet. Spices were more vivid and the sweetness was balanced and not cloying. Nothing nauseating. In fact this is very good. Now I'm confused. It is worthing a fb but it may be an expensive risk. It is much thicker and better than any Amouage, WIDIAN scent that I've tried. In fact it is one of the best scents I've ever tried.. I'm still evaluating it. Update Beware, it stains clothes.

Ever felt ripped off?! That’s exactly how I feel with Spirit of Dubai! This has been reformulated into a totally different fragrance in my opinion. All I wanted was a replacement bottle of Majalis perfume for my elderly mother. When she opened it however, it smelt completely different. Initially I thought there was something wrong with it. It turns out, it’s a completely different formula to the one my mother knew and loved. The new formulation is markedly different to us... There was NOTHING on the website saying it was new formula (basically a new perfume in our opinion). Unfortunately, it wasn’t possible to try it before making the purchase either as the London boutique is permanently closed. Only when I emailed to ask, they confirmed it is a new formula! It is not unreasonable to be upset and disappointed to find that something you have known and loved has been changed (in our opinion for the worse) and for there to be no indication of said change when purchasing, especially when the product costs so much! I didn’t ask for my money back initially... the opposite... I offered to pay more and exchange for another perfume from them!! So now my mother has a bottle of perfume that isn’t what she wanted (or even likes) and the people that could do something about it appear to be completely uninterested. It’s the principle; that this is something that gave someone so much pleasure and they just don’t seem to care less....only interested in keeping the money! Good luck with your new boutique! It’s nice to know how a very disappointed elderly lady’s hard earned money has helped to pay for it!!!

I am just a hobbyist and I can only afford a 5ML decant of this beauty, but still cost more compared to a 50-100ML bottle of any popular designer fragrances. There's so much going on in this fragrance if you look into the combination of notes and accords used. It's like a philharmonic orchestra where each musician plays a vital role to produce a beautiful music and the same thing goes here. Each note plays an important part of the main composition which create such gorgeous fragrance. The dates acts as the conductor, while the taif rose, cardamom and musk completes the ensemble. That fruity smoky oriental vibe in the mid and dry down is to die for. Fruity paradise in a bottle that evokes the vibrant scent of exotic middle east and the oud here was very subtle in the background, almost invisible like an introvert phantom. It's worth the heavy price tag just by the quality of the juice alone. Very strong in all departments, projection, sillage, and longevity. A couple spritz is good enough but adjust if you need more. I'll give this masterpiece a 10/10 “Let's spread the scents of peace and kindness. The two most beautiful fragrance in the world that will cost you nothing and will get you a totally different kind of compliments” 🙏

As is typical for this house, Majalis is composed of more than 3 dozen notes (41 to be precise). Let that sink in, There are very few houses that would ever even attempt to put this many notes into a single fragrance. And with good reason. If you are looking to sniff out all these notes then you have to have the rarest of noses (Rajesh, whose review is below, is one of them). It is opulent for certain. But to me it is opulent in the way Rodeo Drive is opulent. A long list of very expensive shops crammed together rather than a more refined old money opulence. Nevertheless, I love how it smells on me. But where would most of us actually wear this outside the home? Maybe it would fit right in with Abu Dhabi crowd, but for me here in the US I am not sure where I would wear it except on my wrist at home. I am glad I have it, and I am glad to have tried or owned a number of fragrances from this house. It lasts a long while on my skin and projects quite well. It could be cloying to some. Hard to think where I would wear this during the day. It's male leaning. I will say I bring my wrist to my nose again and again and again. Does that make it worth the exorbitant price? That's up to each individual buyer.

This stuff is incredible. Performance, packaging, scent...it’s a whole package. Well worth the price tag in my opinion. One to two sprays is plenty. Many people may say that about other fragrances but I find that BS. I like my fragrance strong as so I can smell it and enjoy and I’m telling you l, one to two spays and it’s just gorgeous and beastly. Soft and powerful at the same time. I love the powdery notes to even out the fragrance and I usually hate powdery type smells but this is done to perfection..try and and tell me what you think!

I specifically logged in to drop this review just to debunk the guy below me "therock" review saying this smell like Clone CA MAN ,Chris Adams, absolute lies because I had to go buy that perfume to see what his was on about, I own Majalis and they smell nothing alike, Clone CA MAN ,Chris Adams smells like Paco Rabanne Ome Million, Majalis has a sweet middle eastern , incense vibe and cannot be compared to that cheap Chris Adams perfume he keeps posting all over. People need to be careful on how they mislead perfume enthusiast on here.

Phew this is amazing. I'm not sure why Majalis isn't in my top 6, but I'm sure it will once winter starts to ramp up here in the northeastern US. I'm not just saying this but I truly believe this is the most elegant and divine creation in my whole collection. Every note is blended perfectly; no one here is fighting. This smells like a regal bespoke blend, made specifically for an Arabian queen (or king). Every accord shows restraint; it's spicy but never gets too spicy, it's sweet but never gets too sweet, etc. This is magnificent!

Wow....just wow. Complexity at its finest. (testing wearability) 8 hrs on my left wrist 4 hrs on my right wrist and 1 hr on my legs all giving me a different nuance, almost a different fragrance. This is nice. I really mean that this is a damn good fragrance. It was a blind buy so I’m a little jubilant. I don’t know what I smell like but it’s beautiful. 1000’s of fragrances 100’s of bottles and I may have finally found the 1.

When I thought nothing will “surprise me”, Majalis came across. This one sky-rocket to my TOP10 most favorite niche fragrances, very easily signature scent packed with basically “all notes that exists” :D. Amazing quality, performance, silage and leans definitely more on Eastern masculine type of perfumes. Truly a unique the gem in my collection. Well done The Spirit of Dubai!

So complex. Not an amber but reminds me of what Arabie or Ambre Sultan are shooting for. This has depth, texture, richness. It is dried fruit, incense, honey, pepper, resins. In the drydown this does turn into almost a green apple shisha tobacco.

The longevity of this juice is worthy of praise, it just keeps going. Beautiful, incense/gourmand/oriental scent and you can tell the quality of the ingredients used are top-notch, this is a Niche collector must have.

One of the best bazaar fragrance you can have. Spices, fruits, frankincense, real Oud and many other notes. This is a very complex, high quality fragrance. Not for beginners, can be complicated for a virgin nose.

Such a beautiful fragrance. My favorite from TSOD line. It’s sweet, a bit aromatic. The rose and coffee notes are so well blended. The performance and sillage is outstanding. 10/10 for me

This is one of the most beautiful things I've ever smelled. It requires caution though - applying more than 1-2 sprays will make your lungs bleed. It's that strong.

Just buy Al Qurashi blend and save yourself some cash

Very pretty but familiar floral gourmand scent that is meant to evoke the olfactory ambience of a stately banquet. It opens with a burst of fruity and aromatic notes (too many to list nut standouts include cardamom, coffee, dates, strawberry, cacao) and then moves to a floral woody middle (rose, heliotrope, iris, guaiac, vetiver, patchouli prominent). and then settles on a powdery woody musky base (tobacco, honey, incense, oud, musk, vanilla and leather prominent). The perfume like most offerings of the house is stuffed with notes (think of a heavier more stuffed Blue Sapphire). It is heavy and recalls a middle eastern opulence. The unisex scent has moderate to strong sillage and very good longevity. Overall, its not one of the stronger offerings of this line, but has an opulent heavy feel to it that may wow certain wearers and admirers. Enjoy!

SOD scents seems to be essentially balanced, but lacking a touch of harmony. Particularly, each fragrance is either too dense or way too dense. Here’s no exception. Opens and persists as a beautiful synthetic strawberry, peach and dates. Resinous, borderline syrupy. I was tempted to suggest this is a gourmand. The consistency doesn’t take anything away from the scent per se, but makes the fragrance difficult to wear. It doesn’t seem to settle down with time either. Never mind the overstated profile. Would be unisex, if it weren’t so strong. But if you spray the right amount... Maybe if they’d settled for less nuance, we’d have something special on our hands. Otherwise, this isn’t more than VG.

Gorgeous opening matched with an equally beautiful bottle. Fruity, Vibrant and Fresh opening. Modest performance. Unisex and for those who enjoy sweeter scent profile. Shukran Habibi!

The top notes were outstanding cardamom , vanilla , dates so I was about to get it , but 15 min l8ter it changed into a tangy shisha tobacco smell i don't know why they should have mess something that start wonderful , anws the niche quality is there

My criticism of Majalis includes the same as for the other two Ive tried from this house - Baz and Turath. It's the house way. Use a billion notes. But as with Turath and Baz, I wish Majalis had more of a defining direction beyond just the deep, rich melange of a billion notes. It's as if all those notes were just put in a blender and pureed without much artistic direction from the perfumer. And with Majalis, the melange has a lot of screechy sweet fruit notes: strawberry, raspberry, peach , apple, that predominate in the opening and into the mid. And it's a bit irritating, in addition to the seemingly pointless composition. The screechy fruit does mellow as it dries down, settling into a more pleasant melange. Fragrances with fewer notes seem to more often have a direction, a point, with an accord structure that defines it with a statement. Spirit of Dubai fragrances seem to be all about the puree of notes. The melange. And as noted below, density. Density has merit in and of itself, but it would be better with more shape, purpose and direction. It's like comparing a full orchestra with all instruments just playing what they want all at the same time, and a string quartet playing Barber's Adagio for Strings. What is Majalis about other than a dense melange? Update: Wearing from a different decant, something happened to the sweet fruity notes. This is mostly the woody, smoky, earthy accords dominating. What happened? Some people are talking about reformulations. But whatever it is, I need some consistency in order to evaluate.

I agree with the reviewer Bbjr this has been reformulated or its batch variation. But this is a good fragrance. This is sweet and complex. So much is happening here and sweetness from rose & dates is leading all other ingredients. More than a single spray is not required and your bottle will last for years Its black coffee or kavha in Diwan where as its dates in Majalis. Looks like the bottles of Majalis have attar inside instead of EDP LOL. One spritz is powerful enough to fill the room and two sprays is nauseating even with the mask on. This is fantastic value for money especially when most of the scents have been watered down due to IFRA.

The opening of Majalis is has a brief cardamom and coffee immediately followed by a mentholated sour sweet fruity accord , I detect green apple, some berry fruitiness, the menthol top note of patchouli, a light citrus note, it kind of resembles BTV Blue Sapphire opening but with added incense and spices (cardamom mainly). While the opening of Blue Sapphire feels fresher and a bit like candy, Majalis is heavier and more oriental but shares a similar accord within it. After that the metallic saffron gets prominent, with brown sugar like dates accord. The fragrance drydown feels like a typical honeyed tobacco (shisha like) base.

Tried a sample of this and it really projects beastly, wish I could compare to the original formulation but I have been told the base notes are the same aside from the initial spray. Which I smell freshness, like walking through a garden next to the beach. Will update on the longevity and sillage performance. Edit; sillage and longevity does last about 5 hours, however the smell at first comes off a bit harsh and almost reminds me of cough medicine.

I really wanted to like this one, but I'd have to agree with what @CracaMacra says below. I admit that my nose isn't as refined as others, and to me this smells like a floral fruity mess. It's not bad per se, but my "virgin nose" can't really pick out any one note. To me, it smells like too many ingredients all just thrown together. I do like the dry down which is musky and woody, but it's not worth the hefty price tag in my opinion.

Totally agree with taskphorce below. This is a stunning fragrance. Initially I'm bombarded with notes that make it feel like someone is assaulting me with several fragrances at once. I have no clue how Nabeel pulled all these notes together and came up with this but it's unlike anything I've come across. I get mostly dates, tobacco, incense, and Oud. Great stuff. I can't keep my nose away from my arm.

Smells super good. Smells a lot like someone who has a lot of money tbh. I think it last relatively long, the presentation is exceptional. Only thing for me is idk if this only happens on my skin but I absolutely hate the 6-7 hr dry down smell. Other than that I’d probably only wear this to a reception or something. Spent a lot of money for it but I think it was worth it.

I think they’ve reformulated this into oblivion. The sample I just received from SOD smells nothing like the original bottle from a few years ago. And the juice is noticeably lighter. The high price was questionable back then, now it’s simply ludicrous. Smells like cough medicine. What a travesty.

At first I didnt get the Boadicea Blue Sapphire reference but let it mellow out a bit and it does have a strong similarity but Blue Sapphire is much better. A very interesting perfume to try but for me a pass.
