Essence

The faint smell of gasoline is in the air when The Essence leaves the bottle. Comfortably petroly, and also very oudy, very quickly turning woody - think of massive, solid, treated, polished wood. The nutmeg is also present in the mix at this moment. And then this perfume take yet another turn after a couple more seconds. Not a mix of sweetness and saffron competes for attention, with the saffron winning at first but finally taken over but some subtle vanilla blended into some delicate sweet honey... could be acacia honey. Finally the gentle wood note becomes more present again. Then all of this settles together into a harmonious combination that sits naturally on the skin. Indeed, quite a rollercoaster ride in the first few minutes - a good one, though. This perfume is very complex and very interesting, and at the same time really good and pleasant to smell. A very masculine fragrance that craftfully blends together various wood types, sweet notes, and a handful of spices. The overall mix is modern while taking in classical elements like that woody base with a hint of spices on top. And then comes the honey... of whereever that sweetness is coming from. Leans more towards night-time wear and is also mainly suitable for fall and winter months. Either way, a great fragrance that can be enjoyed whenever the situation calls for it (or the desire to spray it again). Good stuff!

Woody fresh fragrance. Very smooth mixture. I can't find similarities with other fragrances. To me smells unique. One of my top 5 from collection.

Great barbershop style fragrance, light similarities with Cartier pasha parfum, longevity is 5-7 hours with normal projection

Is this a clone of gucci intense of halfeti?

Having Blazing Mr. Sam, Oud Malaki, and Essence, I can say this is much closer to the Chopard fragrance than Penhaligon's. Yet, there's something that's just a bit different that is more appealing to me. This seems to hold true for many of The Woods Collection scents... I actually might like Dusk more than PDM Layton, Eclipse does something for me that its comparables do not. It very well could be my chemistry reacting well with the components used by TWC. Regardless, in this case, cedar and cypress, oud (tho likely not "real", just as Oud Malaki), and leather blend with all the other notes to produce a masculine scent that lasts long enough and is perfect for an occasional wear (or have in a rotation). I think I would grow tired of it quickly if I tried wearing it frequently... same with the other two. But, Penhaligon's is the overall more rounded, more expensive smelling fragrance... because it's true. For the price, Essence is a great pick.

The notes written are like trying to hit a word count. This smells like a basic barbershop fragrance. It is green, slightly animalic, a bit woody in the opening, but that dies down pretty quickly. Reaction by me and my gf is - this is fine. No rose, no oud, agarwood or anything. LMAO at all the flower notes listed. It is like a worse Dunhill Icon or Lalique Lion but less powdery. Very basic, very boring. Buy only at a low price and if you don't have an average barbershop/masculine office scent. Man... I am bored just smelling this off of me now. Meh.

Very close to Istanbul Atelier Rebul. I am a fan of both The wood collection and Atelier Rebul, but with this one I will prefer Istanbul Atelier Rebul.
