Carré Blanc

I have a very sweet rhubarb jam aspect (more like jelly at the start, and jam with the little filaments remaining at day+1), almond for sure, some citrus really hidden in the background and disappearing very very quickly, some delicate tonka, cannabis, creamy pastry as well, coconut in the background at the start and then taking center stage a few minutes later, some very trademarked Laudamiel melted plastic... And an astringent/sneeze-inducing aspect very emblematic of the cut hay. Personally, I like it a lot, and I find it much more wearable than other references from the brand. It's actually quite sweet, though indeed very tinged with futurism/an artificial feeling on the top notes, but it's a chord of notes that I find both versatile, moving and original. After a few hours, and on both skin and fabrics, the rhubarb/almond side is really the one that stays, without being too sweet at all, and it becomes a true cuddly scent. Maybe one of my favorites of the store so far, even if it's clearly not the kind of accord I usually have a crush on. My partner also really likes it, and I can imagine it pairing very well with something more woody/classy like masculine.

Carré Blanc loosely translates to “White Square”. At first I didn’t get it. I sprayed it on some blotters, it was nice. I tried it on my skin, it was different but also good. I sprayed it on my partner’s skin and it smelled different yet again. At this moment is where I realized “white square” is a blank canvas! The scent varies on the wearer’s skin chemistry, temperature and weather. So I’m guessing you’d have to try this on your SKIN to fully decide if you like it or not. On me, Carré Blanc smells of juicy pomelo, a little woodsy green, a little lipsticky. Bright, airy, crisp. After a while you’d think it’s gone but then get whiffs of it now and then. To other people though, the sillage and projection is a timid monster. Lasts eternally as well!

What a fascinating scent. Heavy dose of ISO E Super creates the main character, but every time you go in for a smell it seems to feel different. Sometimes I get a creamy vanillic wood and tonka bean, almost turning into ice cream. Sometimes I get a sour rhubarb and grapefruit. Sometimes I get something plant-like. Generally though this scent is a powdery, woodsy, sweet scent. It's incredibly strong though, and part of me wishes it was a little softer because it can get a bit headache inducing wearing this indoors. But I think this is a real statement maker if I wore this out to an event or a party. It's very different, despite it's character being based on one of the most used ingredients in perfumery today.

This was so atypical, that I'm kind of obsessed with it. I tried this at a specialty store in NYC where all scents are transferred into clear bottles without names, so you're not informed by notes, brands, or colored bottles. When I added this to a tester strip, everyone smelled "pot" and "skank." This intrigues me. I smell a bitter pistachio, and I love the skank of it.

Smells to me like a sheet of paper on a sunny summer meadow. Or like the idea of it. Wonderfully bright & alternating between natural and synthetic. Beautiful, inspiring work!

If I understand correctly, Carré Blanc is composed of man-made molecules only (I would love to know what molecules they are). The allergen list has nothing on it except water and fragrance, which is different from most other perfumes that would contain some "basic" materials like linalool, eugenol, etc. Depending on your perception at different times, you get different associations. That's why the perfume is called Carré Blanc. The name is actually just a white square, a blank square that represents whatever interpretation you get from this perfume. For me Carré Blanc smells like acidic rhubarb, crushed green leaves, iris, lipstick, flour, dust, dry wood, ashes... Sometimes the smell disappears and sometimes I can smell it from far away. And indeed it lasts and lasts. While I'm not crazily head over heels for it, I quite like the idea of it. It's definitely an interesting one and worth trying out.

I actually first bought a mini of this fragrance, was disgusted by it, and gave it away. However, I couldn’t stop thinking about the feelings it brought up in me and how it was like nothing else in my collection; so I then bought a bottle to try to understand what it was doing to me. Believe me—it is otherworldly and an absolute chameleon to the nose. I’ve also realized that this fragrance is all about the dosage as well as the timing and location of your sprays. A fragrance that really makes you think about fragrance in a novel way.

Very strange this one... but I kinda love it!!!! Absolutely eternal on the strip and skin and clothes and anything it touches frankly. Confusing, bitter and razor sharp greenery in the opening, needling through a some signature heft, yet lightness of Christophe's creations. The rhubarb aspect of this stays strong and present, driving this perfume but it's no Rhubarb my love, this is more aloof, queer and modern.

Bright, like industrial, spring/summer, daytime. Feels young and would wear while boating or a pool party 🎈

indeed a never ending coumarin note, sour almond and hay, barbershop vibe...the opening is a green burst of rhubarbe so the absence of evolution between these 2 parts is disturbing. Really not the best one in The Zoo but an unique beast anyway - lovable only if you're crazy about bitter almond's smell.

Interesting. Can't decide how I feel about this one. There's a vegetal greenness, kind if like freshly cut grass but sour, especially at the start. As it dries down, you do get something a little bit more bakery-like, but it's raw flour and yeast, not freshly baked bread. Projection on this one is a machine. I did 2 half sprays on my wrist from a sample bottle, my normal dosage for new scents. Typically at that level it isn't too noticeable unless you get your nose fairly close but I can smell Carré Blanc no matter where my arm is at. Impressive. Edit: I do not like this perfume. Would be fine as a 4-5 hour ordeal but I put it on 10 hours ago and went to sleep and now my whole bed smells like Carré Blanc. I'm going to have to wash my sheets. The sprays on my arm were still projecting until I washed my arm not only with soap but with alcohol wipes too. You can still smell it, it's just not projecting. Jesus christ. You could weaponize this. Edit, >1 year on: I have passed my sample vial off to a friend who is moving out of a situation with extremely terrible roommates. It will be weaponized.

This shit is fucking terrible. The projection and sillage is astounding as I have never worn a perfume that projected as far as this one or stayed on as long EVEN AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO SCRUB IT OFF. I sprayed this on at around 1 and have been in a shit ass mood ever since and it's now 11pm. Guess what, I can still smell the plasticky, weirdly grapefruit-y, very green, nauseating, rage inducing scent on me. I get that this has the appeal, at the very least, to be interesting but I also found a plethora of drugs interesting- that doesn't mean they were good for me. Each stage of this perfume was suffering. I picked up a LOT of different notes, but none of these things brought joy to me. This perfume smells like the memory of being sick. I hate this shit so much.

Fresh, bitter, mineral citrus and blond wood. I'd describe Carré Blanc as smelling like some sort of ozonic vetiver extraction amped up with Iso E Super. There's green and citrus and hay, as though the rhubarb, grapefruit and grassy accents of vetiver have been distilled out and made into something new. Cold, sour, acidic and nasty. Haha! Perhaps an atomic vetiver, mutated after a nuclear accident. Or a photo-negative inversion of vetiver that amplifies all its bad points while removing the good. An interesting experiment but definitely not for me.

My overall impression is of toasted walnuts as if from a baked nut bread, and beneath that some grassiness (the hay), and the woodiness of nut-hulls. It is strong stuff with amazing permeating power. My shirt cuff projected "bakery" for days after. Dabbed it very lightly on my guy and he loved it. I didn't get much of the sour or citrus, and good value since a little goes a long way. It does not command attention as a "perfume" or "fragrance" so it may be good for a man who does not like that, per se. It may almost give the impression of someone who works in a sawmill or furniture making shop, due to the woodiness. It makes me think of the color brown, so the white square reference has me scratching my head.

Really awesome topnote. Puts a big smile on my face. Everything explodes out at once: dry pistachio, vanilla, coconut, rhubarb, green freshness. I think this is the main attraction. But then this quickly dries to a nutty tonka fragrance that is equal parts sweet Amaretto and dry hay. I guess I never thought about the smell of coumarin because I've never smelled it bare bones like this. It takes getting used to. All in all, worth trying for the opening alone. And stick around to find out whether you enjoy coumarin or not. PS: Just as the brand warns, this stuff is super potent when it dries down with insane staying power. Proceed with caution.

A very unusual scent which to me doesn't smell green at all. I get a near prickly sensation in the opening followed by a subdued iris accord. It's chalky, slightly powdery, and reminds me of mold for some reason. It smells like a distant cousin of Molecule 01 + Iris but somehow even more ''abstract'' if that makes sense. Only for real fragrance enthusiasts. I don't like the smell at all and find it near unwearable. The black sheep of the line. 3/10

I'm sorry, but this is by far the worst fragrance I have ever smelled. I had a sample, sprayed it on my wrist and immediatly regretted it. This one spray filled up the room with such immense skank! I could not wash it off fast enough. I even threw away the sample, because even from the bottle it reeked. I have to give credit for longevity and sillage here, but I can not possibly imagine who would like this.

This is bonkers. Ever-shifting, totally synthetic concoction that smells at once industrial, dry, dusty, homey, and weirdly fresh. Sometimes smells like Molecule 01 + Iris's weirder sister, sometimes smells like melted plastic grapefruits. Not sure how much I'll actually wear this, but I appreciate the artistry that went into it.

Please add "No Perfume" to the Zoo collection. Rhubarb crisp with a background of toasted oatmeal. (on my skin)
