Fig My Love

With the ever increasing popularity of Diptyque's Philosykos and fig-forward fragrances like Gris Charnel, I keep waiting for when Fig My Love will erupt on the scene. Everyone who's tried it knows-- it's the queen. The truest, realest, and most honest fig I've smelled, with none of the bells and whistles. No rotten fruit on the ground, no dirt on the leaves... this is exactly what I think Olivia Giacobetti set out to accomplish back in 1994, but I believe that we now have something more akin to a final product for the fig tree accord. Like many have said, it has a crisp and bitter leafy opening, kind of what you'd envision smelling walking up to a fig tree on a day where the sun is hitting the leaves and warming them up. It stays pretty true through the drydown, not dissipating into some 'off' scent that lacks credibility. I can only imagine this isn't more popular because, like mentioned by others, it doesn't even smell like perfume. It just smells like you've been sitting in a fig tree all day, or are actually the tree itself.

Fig My Love differs from all other fig perfumes in that it gives you the whole tree during all its lifetime: bark, stems, leaves, sap... A giant slap of bitter green opening, followed by a slightly milky and intensely leafy green all the way through. While other fig perfumes turn into something else in the drydown: nondescript woody, sugary, coconutty, or vanillic, Fig My Love stays the same realistic fig tree all during all its long and strong life. As Laudamiel himself says, the longevity is achieved thanks to the use of good and expensive materials. Every word in his description of this perfume is absolutely true. Fig perfumes are not my personal love, but I applaud this wonderful realistic creation. Highly recommended to all who love fig and/or green perfumes.

This is an underrated gem. The opening is divine. I remember the first time I smelled Diptyque Philosikos I was blown away and thought "it doesn't get better than this". Then I tried Fig My Love and as the saying goes, "real didn't recognize real til fake showed up". This is in a league of its own. It lasts forever, and smells so natural and green. Fig my love quenches my olfactive needs the same way a lime gatorade quenches my thirst.

This is THE fig fragrance. I actually bought this fragrance and then gave away Premier Figuier Extreme because I realized how much more complete Fig My Love is from beginning to end. Christophe Laudamiel would never disrespect his audience by throwing all of the magic into the top. He composes each moment of his perfumes and uses the best ingredients to tell his story. Please do yourself a favor and sample this. Then buy a bottle!

Gorgeous green figs with a sharp green opening that softens into a bittersweet tree milk sap and then dries down to an almost confectionary lightly spicy creamy sandalwood even though it contains none. He manages to get the woodiness out of his fantasy fig materials (real fig cannot be used in fragrance.). Very fresh and bracing yet cozy and comforting. Clearly the product of a Master of Materials.

I completely agree with the comments below saying this is the most photorealistic fig ever. You can see and FEEL the fig, branch, leaves like you’re right there. Glorious! I’ve just sprayed this on 1.5 hours ago and it’s dried down to a gorgeous creamy fresh scent that I absolutely love. Have a sample but may need to order the full bottle...

I’m covered in realistic fig—sap, leaves, bitter, creamy. I love it! I’ve only used it three times. Are people in the USA looking for a bottle?

I rather cheekily I fear, sent a formula for my own fig perfume to Christophe for comment.... still waiting. Haha Anyway, this is quite possibly one of the most incredible fig perfumes a fig for fig lovers, not the popularized sweet, dried or caramelized fig or indeed coconut inflected fig leaf type perfume this is pure, barely sweetened, fig business for the hardcore enthusiast. It has velvety texture and a cooling effect, the accord I perceive as containing a lot of stemone (which I think is the most abundant molecule in real fig?) and it's almost similar aura to geranium, dry, cool, almost minty but floral as well. Great observation of fig because there's some of the tree there, something of that milky aspect and greens, texturally fascinating and balanced really well. Having said all of this, it might be a little too raw for me to wear? As much as I can admit that L'artsian Parfumeur or Armani or Acqua di Parma's figs are a little pleasant and sweetly sanitised, far from the visceral study this perfume is, but I hate myself for saying this...a bit more wearable. I need to sample more, perhaps something will click? Because I'm prepared to get on board and love this, I can accept it's brilliance already.

The more I discover these people who form the counter-power to the big brands, the less my nose can stand the supposed "big names" of houses like Diptyque. Because here it is, a fresh and soft fig for the nose, which does not smell like chemicals or scented candles for the house! It is very milky here, almost almondy, but at the same time extremely green, slightly watery, while almost bitter on the top notes... It's simultaneously simple/delicate and evolving, and with good staying power on the skin and in the hair (more green/fruity than woody/sweet to my nose). A very sweet scent, in any case. Not a fig paste or a pastry fig, nor a very ripe fig with a very sweet flesh, no, a barely ripe fig, picked on the tree just before time, on a still young fig tree (with indeed this almost tomato leafy taste evoked by a commentator on the English speaking Fragrantica). In short, a fig back to basics. I can't help but prefer Sorcinelli's (which I find even more photorealistic, especially the feeling of the seeds that don't appear here) but until he makes a fragrance to wear, this will be my fig to go.

This is an odd number. It could be a portrayal of a fig tree after rain but smells constructed / man-made to an extent where it makes me feel slightly uneasy. I also perceive something metallic here, it definitely has a cold and fizzy vibe which I find a little overbearing. My search for that vibrant gentle green fig without coconut still continues.

A surprisingly metallic, mineral fig. The cedary, lactonic notes of fig chug away in the base under cold, fresh, mineral top notes that aren't so enjoyable for me. Then, surprisingly, the creaminess dies away and I'm left with just the bitter, green, metallic accord. It gets better as it calms but I still think it's a little bit of an oddity, a soapy, metallic, industrial fig. I hear what others are saying about photorealism, this is more like a fig tree than most fig perfumes and recognises some of the weirder elements that go to make up that smell but I can't get away from the fact that Fig My Love 's freshness has a strong metal overtone, like a scoured steel saucepan. That said, I'm the only reviewer saying this, so you might like it more than me.

Hay a fig! I feel safe saying this is my favorite fig. It opens sweet but sharp, cutting like a blade of grass, bitter and reminiscent of chlorophyll. It's also sweet, making me think of dry greenery and hay. Have you smelled fields of hay? They're very sweet, almost tonka-like, with a refreshing edge. After a few hours of wearing this, I start thinking the grass around me smells really good. Don't be tempted to sniff around; I've been told it looks pretty strange. I'm making it sound like this only smells like sweet grass; it doesn't. It is an identifiable fig leaf that, after a while, warms up, milky and coconutty, cut with grassy hay. I like that! Towards the end of its development, it dries down to a whisper of coconut and tonka and an unnaturally yummy-smelling field. It lasts long; it's sweet but bitter and refreshing. It also has a more natural-smelling dry-down than other figgy classics like Debaser (which will not have you sniffing random grasses to see if they smell lovely).

A shockingly photorealistic unripe fig fragrance, to the extent that if you close your eyes you can almost feel the rough, textured fig skin, imagine that you've just snapped one down from a branch. Doesn't even attempt to sand itself down for easier consumption - it starts as a biting and bitter leafy green, with no sugar to smooth things over, no coconut to cover sharp edges. It allows itself to visit the less explored aspects of the garden, isn't afraid to allow things to venture into almost the uncomfortable reality of spring leaves and milk sap, cut bark and unripe fruit. Opaque, powerful and persistent. I truly think that if you presented this to someone blind, they'd guess it were the fruit itself (or at least something "real") rather than a fragrance. Fantastic.

Very realistic green fig scent. The opening has a nice milky-coconut accord, but you also smell the stems, the twigs, the leaves, like the reviewer below mentioned. The longer it sits on your skin the better it gets. I haven't tested many fig based scents, but out of all of them, this is so far my favorite one. Creamy, green, woody, lactic, it's all there. The transition from stems and leaves to the often associated coconut-like sap accord is also very enjoyable. Great performance as well. If you're a fan of fig scents, this one is up there in the upper echelon of fig based scents. 8/10

If you happen to love fig fragrances that lean toward bitter green tomato leaf and don’t mind a slightly soapy tinge, Fig My Love is the fragrance for you. It is persistent and powerful and outperforms any fig fragrance I’ve tried from L’Artisan, to Diptyque, to Profumum, to Wilhelm. It gets fruitier and cozier as it dries down from the opening of bracing green leaves. EDIT: Something I noticed in subsequent wearings is the really pretty fresh mimosa-like late drydown. I was walking around trying to figure out what smelled so amazing until I realized it was me. Very nice.

Love the first sniff, smells like a real realistic fig, maybe a bit too sharp, like a metallic note. But that’s just at the start. After a while it’s more warm, woody, but still a little sharp edge. I have to try it more often I guess, I think the drydown is really good.
