Spacewood

Spacewood is abstract and baffling, and the note list above does very little to help but ill do my best to describe it. The strongest feature is a warm, milky sandalwood-verging on coconut effect that made me recall Bronze Goddess for a second. The commenter below talking about sun kissed skin and suntan lotion is certainly into something. I faintly recognize the woody smell of acacia and the suedey, powdery mimosa bit they seem to blend together to make a kind of vivid yellow, gauzy chiffon like texture. In the top notes I barely sense a lime accord but there is somehow a vivid neon green element. I have read online that Spacewood contains a very large dose of an aromachemical called Floralozone, which in my research seems to mainly ozonic, floral and slightly marine. There is a slightly seawatery accord here and a very abstract, undefined floralcy. A steely metallic aspect can also be found that makes me think of grey and silver. Despite being so odd it's a friendly, upbeat fragrance that I think will suit wearing on summer nights and at parties. I will update this after a few more wears. So far my take on it: warm/cold fresh neon glow. *My friend wore this and on him it smelled of berries and much more icy-fresh. This is certainly an interesting one!

Hazy mentholic-citron opening, flourescent green, faint lemongrass, cucumber-sunscreen, heat wave, electric pavement. The most synesthetic perfume I've had in a while. Tailored for summer. Linear drydown. Totally satisfying.

Sweet, hot summery vibes for sure. All day wear, any occasion really. Leaning feminine, soft. So perhaps for someone who wants to smell like a beautiful hot summer breeze x

This one is super strange, but maybe in a super cool way. It’s like an unexpected bag or some funky shoes that somehow makes / compliments the look.

Only 3 notes for a scent that is not so much as complex as it is masterfully crafted. Very fizzy and bright. Perfect for 80+ degree weather and this one projects and lasts all day. A bit more feminine than masculine but def a stunner.

This impression is based solely on a sample I didn't know I had....in a box with 100+ samples. It you're a FRAGRANTICA reader....you can identify with the reference. I can't compare it to anything. Very unique. As a scent, it's not bad, interesting. But I can't imagine it as a perfume.

Ok, Laudamiel is supposed to be a genius, but Spacewood is pure harsh aromachemicals. “Futuristic”, I guess? or “ozonic”? but to me it just smells like failure: a cheap perfume gone off the deep end of “fresh” into artificial starkness. To be fair, Spacewood does develop over time. It has moments of intense fruitiness (the “neon yellow and green” Laudamiel mentions) that, indeed, resembles very cold white wine; and a weird gritty muskiness close to the skin. Combined with the abstract synthetic floral there is a bit of an impression of a summer day by the pool; chlorine, fresh air, blue skies, and a Chablis. something unusual is going on with the progression here; while most perfumes try to envelop you in a mostly-continuous cloud of scent, Spacewood is gappy. The fruity-white-wine effect is only detectable about 6 inches from my wrists and disappears closer to the skin. Is this some hard-to-achieve virtuoso perfumer’s trick that Laudamiel is putting together for his fellow chemists? from my own, untutored perspective, however, Spacewood isn’t particularly rewarding to wear. I don’t want to smell like a swimming pool, even one with a weird evanescent neon-hologram effect.

Full of aldheydes like, maybe a lot of C11, hot steam, iron, waxy and C18, waxy coconut...very chemical , these notes are generally used to give a feeling of open space but here it's all about them, you really feel a lab around you , maybe also a sauna. The small touch of more natural references as mimosa, acacia suggest the smell of a very mineral and dry boiled white wine. If you want to try a kind of everlasting cologne freshness and a nice work on a abstract chemical solinote it's a good choice...perfect for the Comme des Garçons fanclub.

Reviews made me think this was less about the yellow florals and more about the aldehydes, but this is very much a yellow floral fragrance, just with a very open air feeling to it. It kind of felt like a floral version of Club Design to me as that was like an airy car showroom. This is an airy collection of florals and cheap wine.

A strange but surprisingly wearable composition to me. It has this fizzy or effervescent quality to it. Very synthetic but in an abstract sort of way, just like the leather note in Askew (another one done by Laudamiel). Lightly floral, boozy and apart from that pretty hard to describe. I don't get any woods out of it, and it's easy to wear if you're used to synthetic compositions a la Comme des Garcons for example. It's perhaps the mimosa giving this fizzy feeling to it, and I can understand the smell reminding some of stale white wine. It also has a cooling effect to it which makes it suitable for warmer weather. A more casual scent which is unisex if you ask me. All in all a weird and interesting scent by Laudamiel which is not his best, but still fun to sample. 7/10

Although I am certain I’ve never smelled this accord before, the closest things I can compare it to are those moments in herbal accords when lavender meets up with something else to create a surprising, subtle, bubblegum-like sweetness that defies your expectations of the listed notes. Someday another perfumer may find a way to use Spacewood as merely one element in a more dramatic, complex composition. But I like this original take on sweet notes so much that I think I’d prefer to wear this as it is: extremely simple and beautiful.

Wow what an oddball this is. It’s a gentle mimosa with a prominent smell that is somewhere were between solar and marine. It feels like coconut milk too, not fake suntan coconut but fleshy fatty coconut milk. It’s tender and not aggressive, and I can feel something the absinthe/wormwood/licorice/anise family too. It’s like a glass of coconut milk that has a drop of absinthe in it placed next to a vase of wilting mimosa flowers. Very weird.
