Very intriguing scent. I'm really loving this house. Blind bought 4 and love 3 of them. For the price you can totally take a blind buy risk. The artistry in these scents is worth the price of admission several times over. This one is a totally unique patchouli. A light, airy but juicy fruitiness, a deep, bitter, earthy patchouli, with a mysterious haze of olibanum. Very distinctive. This is what makes collecting fun. Finding a cool new house, and then finding some unique loves within their collection.

First of all I would like to congratulate to Mr. THEO' for creating this masterclass. Yeah! completely agreed with previous comments this is a very unique natural and very well blended juice. A true reflection of a gentleman and fine addition in Niche' fragrances. There is nothing bad till date in this fragrance. ABSOLUTE CLASSIC for a man who wants to live in his own with sophistication and elegance. Highly recommended to those who really know what fragrance is all about.

Outstanding and unique fragrance from Crete. I love it and it is easily one of my favorites. Longevity and sillage are superb. I'd give this one an A+!

Unique, natural and well blended. 12+ hours longevity with moderate-high sillage. The more I wear this the more I appreciate it.

My first encounter with the brand. 1989 is an impressive scent albeit having it's minuses. Let me elaborate. BTW the scent piramid is messed up. Here is the official one from TK' website: TOP: Pink pepper MID: Plum BASE: Patchouli and Styrax Benzoin It starts with a blast of earthy, slightly sweet patchouli. It has a boozy quality to me. It's definately a base heavy composition. The composition is masterfully blended though- nothing screechy and cheap here. In about 30 mins there's some fruity ess- ripe, almost fermented and not sugary sweet. The plum accord is enough to give it some playfullnes and soften the composition. After that it's the drydown- a blast of earthy patch, plus some plum and resin- styrax benzoin. The end result is a boozy patch with lots of resins and some ripe fruityness. It fits the colder weather- fall/winter and maybe some cold spring evenings. It's heavy and dense. I personally see it not suitable for warm/hot weather. As far as longevity and projection- nothing beast mode. It's about average in longevity and projection- 5-6 hrs and abouth and armlength in projection for the first 2 hrs. After that it stays close to the skin. Any projection maniac s should look elsewhere. For whom it is? It's rather masculine, but a woman in her 30es and up can pull it off. It's a grown up scent which commands seriiousness. I would use it as both casual scent and formal one. Can be used for dates and night outs as well, so versatility is there. I bought it for a discount- the equvallent of 35 buck Euro for a 50 ml bottle. It's ok for this price point. I wouldn't pay retail though- 50 Euro, simply because of the longevity. In conclusion- a hefty, earthy,boozy patch, with some ripe plum and spicy resins- styrax benzoin. Very well blended. Nothing screechy and synthetic about it. Rather linear. Rather masculine, but a woman in her 30es and up can pull it off. A serious scent. Versatile as far occasions go. Strictly a cool/cold weather perfume- fall and winter. Longevity is ok, but definately could be better. If one can find it discounted it's a great purchase. Personally would not pay retail. Not sure whether I would repurchase a bottle. 7,5/10 Edit: Definately strong and potent, both as projection and lifespan. Collegues are commenting on it after 8 hrs, so for the asking price is reasonable. If one can snatch it with a discount code it's a steal. Would repurchase.

This was a blind buy after sampling and enjoying other fragrances by TK. 1989 turned out to be a bit dryer in the opening than I anticipated. Didn’t pick up much fruit or sweetness until the dry down. I primarily just picked up the patchouly and woodiness of the olibanum initially, and maybe a little pepper. The plum and raspberry notes go well with this and did later appear well into the dry down. This is a quality and unique fragrance, and it definitely takes a little while to fully develop into the pleasant scent that it is. At the opening I originally thought this was only OK. But, 30 minutes later into the dry down I really begin to enjoy it. Sillage also improved in the dry down. I like this fragrance, but I would recommend sampling first and give it time.

very heavy on the patchouli(in a good way) then backed up by a sweeter smelling frankincense. It's not the typical frankincense that smells churchy or like a head shop. I'd say new-age hippie woman that showers would wear this. Don't associate this patchouli with the 70s patchouli frags. This is a much cleaner, and modern patchouli. Another nice thing, it's currently super affordable. I expect this brand to blow up and they will raise prices when they get popular. You can get 2 bottles of this for the price of 1 normal niche frag.

Ideal for Fall. It's like walking in a pine forest in southern Greece.

My second sampling from Theodoros Kalotinis is 1989, named after the birth year of the creator, with the main notes of patchouli, styrax benzoin absolute, plum, and pink pepper. So it’s fruity, spicy, a little fresh, and a bit of a quirky mix, not quite like anything I’ve smelled before. This is something that probably needs to be sampled to be understood. I’m not sure the parts quite fit for me, but it does somewhat transport me to a relaxed, vacation setting in the summer, even though it’s not a particularly light or fleeting fragrance. The patchouli and styrax give it an herbal quality, as well. It feels midway between something totally unique and classic men’s fragrance. Like most of the Eau de Parfum collection, 1989 is priced at 45 euros for 50ml, which is great, though the brand is only available through the house site. 6 out of 10

Though it's classified as men's I just had to try it, all the notes (minus olibanum, not sure what that smells like exactly) are notes I typically love. Unfortunately I don't think it smells so great, it almost smells like wet muddy earth to me and it instantly reminded me of a trip I took to Yosemite where it started pouring rain in the forested area we were at. I would enjoy it as a candle perhaps but not as a fragrance on myself and most liky not on someone else either. However it does smell very quality, and their prices are reaaaally good. Definitely sample first though, I really don't catch any notes besides patchouli and probably the base note, I would definitely be able to pick out the other notes if I could find them. Projects very well. 1 spray on my wrist and I can smell it when my hand is at my side.

Smelling the atomizer first, pure clove oil and patchouli oil with a touch of a ambery boozy warmth. Spraying it on for a few seconds I get a luxurious rum top note (rum absolute?) and then it quickly transforms into a mixture of 50% clove oil and 50% medicinal patchouli, a bit of a leathery labdanum touch, and a warm muskiness out line in the back, slightly soapy. I don't get overtly fruity touches, more so a tart outline of a plum accord. Over time a bit of a tobacco element solidifies itself in the 'pool' of clove and patch. You must enjoy spice and patchouli to enjoy this one. Considering that it feels like a high quality indie scent with an emphasis on natural ingredients it does justify its price. *I have a 50 ml I am looking to swap, let me know if you are interested*

When I got the sample my initial response to it was: urine has been turned to a fragrance? This is so strong and strange smell, very pungent initially, although after 10 minutes it becomes something more acceptable. Is it styrax benzoine? Patchouli? Pepper? I don't know styrax but I have some familiarity with patchouli and... I still don't know. Did I get a wrong sample? Because the comments below are so mild. I had to soften this with something and chose 1902 Vetiver Berdoues EDC which fitted very well with this. Maybe I can even use the whole 1 ml (!) sample this way, layering with something else (vetiver). 1989 reminds me remotely the "leathery" note from D.S. & Durga's Cowboy Grass but there it is weaker and only appears for a certain period of time while drying/evolving. I'm still surprised that the creator of this made something like that for his own birthyear, kind of a signature. It was an olfactory surprise and experience nevertheless.

From a 30ml bottle won giveaway here at Fragrantica. Sadly, leaking when it arrived and leaking every time I spray it. Still, my sincerest thank you for this reward Theo Parfums. 1989 by Theo Parfums should be recognized for it's high quality, very unique composition and outstanding performance. This is a 1 spray huge scent cloud, very aromatic, earthy, spicy, herbal, grassy/green and with an aromatherapy nuance. It's a perfect wear for cigarette smokers and read on to know why. For the first hour or so, one spray, will surely be noticed, two to three sprays can fill a small room, four and more sprays may cause sneezing; revolting to those who are very sensitive to fragrances. Longevity goes 7 plus hours. 1989 fits the "less is more" category just like Slumberhouse Norne, Mugler's Angel and A*Men, Aramis Calligraphy Rose, Montale Black Aoud, Nasomatto Black Afgano and others. But don't get me wrong,1989 is neither dark nor sensual. It is formal, evening formal, outdoorsy formal/casual/sporty and may even be a bar night wearing//clubbing as long as you do not go over 2 sprays. 1989 can be worn on most seasons except hot/humid summer days. It stays true to its composition. It is quite complex and I personally enjoy the scent journey. It has a calming feel to it plus sophistication. I feel like a wealthy man when wearing it outside the house. Since I received a defective packaging, the scent has stayed inside the box and oil residue at the bottle neck. Sniffing in the box initially reminded me of the addicting smell of a menthol cigarette pack. It's almost the same top smell of my vintage Dreamer by Versace added with eucalyptus and pepper spices. A soothing and cooling effect that initially got noticed and complimented. It is quite tricky because what I smelled in the box and out of the sprayer, smells different on my skin as I smell vibes of vetiver, violets, soft metallic accord. Then finally, the faint smell of a cigarette box is back over the dry down. Tricky yet very enjoyable. Over the heart and base, 1989 by Theo Parfums also has an aromatherapy feel to it. Definitely, a relaxing bedtime scent. The base is green, grassy, soft spicy and herbal. Much like a cousin of perfume masterpiece, F. Malle's French Lover and Aramis Havana. I highly recommend 1989 by Theo Parfums to niche lovers and perfume enthusiasts who prefers fragrances that are spicy, aromatic, deep, a hands down beast performer, exuding class with soothing and rejuvenating character. How I wish to try the complete "Theo" lines including Mentor. With his accomplishment in 1989, Theo K. has a strong potential to be among the famous names in the fragrance industry. For it's uniqueness, performance and well crafted, terrific scent, I rate 1989, a 5/5.

This is a very nice item for it's price point, and the quality of juice is stellar. I get a tea (?) out of it, perhaps it's my novice nose to what the peppers really are, but it's very pleasant. The typical TK base in the start of the item, is powerful for a EDP. The middle is sweetened up in fact by the plum for sure, and it gets quickly dry. I ordered this after a homerun right off the bat with Tobacco Maniac, and Santal Wood from TK's extrait line. I must try his Mentor next. 7/10

This is the first fragrance I've tried with this kind of scent profile and honestly it kind of wows me. The pepper actually smells really reminiscent of clove to me, with the fruity accord reminding me of the clove & orange garnish that my family puts on a ham at Christmas. Don't dislike it but not sure I love it either, really just reminds me of this one specific food. Going to wear it more and see if it grows on me.

1989: birth year of the creator of this fragrance. Again a patchouli this time earthy, dry. Too much as protagonist, and above all very similar to lily, from the same Brand.

This is not just patch oil... Iff you think that you have never tested natural patch oil. Dont come here with that trash talk.
