Aegean Salt & Citrus

The citrus is bright and zesty, like lemon trees swaying near a whitewashed villa. The salt note isn’t just beachy from this flyover country American's perspective. It’s mineral-rich, bracing, like the sea air clinging to your skin which for me is very reminiscent of the time I spent boating around the Dalmation Islands in the Adriatic Sea. That being said, I feel compelled to suggest it may not resonate with most Americans since it's also reminiscent of some of our popular laundry detergents and softeners - all of which seem to be owned by a division of Unilever or Johnson and Johnson these days. I had an afterthought I wanted to share. This would be an AWESOME olfactory experience to wear this fragrance while binge watching the The Durrells in Corfu (PBS). Go a step further to immerse yourself into the show and prepare some Bianco white fish stew with Tsigareli and of course the obligatory dolmades beforehand. Yet another afterthought written two hours later to share. The dry down reminds me of European laundromats back in the early 2000s when I was younger, poorer, and more adventurous when traveling overseas. It's a dead ringer for that lingering laundromat dryer redolence and brought back memories of doing my laundry in the UK, Italy, Croatia, Bosnia, and come to think of it - the more southern European countries.

It's a sunny day on a Greek beach. You're on holidays and you go out in the balcony to bathe in the morning sun. Below your balcony there are grapefruit and lemon trees all over the garden. You feel the sea breeze hitting your face and life can not get any better. Now take that entire statement and put it in a bottle. That's this perfume for you. This perfume manages to open with a sunny, bright citrus that is somehow not sharp or sour, it is rather sweet. It's like a candied lemon peel rather than a spritz of lemon juice. Citrus notes are still present, don't get me wrong, they are just tamed down and the sea salt note; that's where the magic happens. The fragrance has a really airy feeling to it, it makes me want to keep sniffing it as it just smells so damn good. It has now become my number one summer fragrance and it will be a perfume that's always present on my shelf. This has to be the greatest summer fragrance I have ever smelled. I don't own many perfumes but have smelled a lot, this is simple excellency that takes the good old formula of summer staple freshies and creates an entirely new feeling with a simple but careful blend of high quality ingredients. Best of all? It lasts almost 8 hours on me and considering the type of fragrance this is, it's a great performer.

Does salt have a smell? have never had the good fortune to go to Greece, but it the sea salt does indeed smell like this, it's a wonder people aren't just lolling around the beach all day, huffing the miraculous salt air. To me this smells much more like a citrus cologne--lemon, grapefruit--but it lasts longer. I didn't know anything about Theodorous Kalatonis until my perfume pal sent me some vials, and now I'm a fan. I can't imagine anyone not liking this aptly named fragrance (with the caveat that I have never smelled Aegean salt). I admit that I was initially cautious, because I thought it might smell somewhat briny--the smell of the sea to me isn't just salt but also something kind of fishy and vegetal--but this is as good a name as any, since most people have a less literal understanding of what ocean water smells like than I do. This smells exactly like what I would want to smell like if I were on a transatlantic voyage by sea, lounging in a chaise longue, possibly reading Homer. That said, the TK fragrance doesn't evoke Homer's wine-dark sea--I imagine it more of a clear cerulean Mallarmé blue, with jade-green pockets.

Wow, so bright and effervescent! It took me a while to connect the dots, but then it hit me and I said "YES, BINGO." This is an exact dupe of.....wait for it.....7-up or Sprite! Same fizziness, except this doesn't make me burp! This reminds me of MFK's Aqua Universalis, but without the lily of the valley and orange blossom notes. Aegean Salt & Citrus is also a lot cheaper than Aqua Universalis. And making it even more of a great bang for the buck niche perfume is that it lasts 1/2 the day on my skin. That's amazing, considering what kind of perfume this is! So Theodoros must have put a high content of high quality fragrance oils into his marvel here. Needless to say, I had to get a bottle immediately. It's one of my top two perfumes for summer, along with Terre Hermes Eau Tres Fraiche. Well done Mr. Kalotinis.....well done indeed!

This is so amazing! Crisp air, blue sky, everything pure, citric notes. And actually: for me, this is not really a beach scent but one reminding me crisp air of snowy sunny mountains! Everything pure and perfect -- this is what I feel when sniffing this. Since I have already tried MFK's Aqua Celestia sample before, it immediately reminds me this but ASC is probably much cheaper. Edit: after having bought a full bottle of this it turned out that on skin it will turn into the scent of some seaweed or at least something that I have smelt at beach and few hours later the skin smells like sand in the beach :) Not bad, even impressing and rather interesting, but on shirt this didn't happen and I prefer it there.

This is beautiful! I'm comparing my sample next to other citrus fragrances in my collection, and despite its simplicity, it's quite unique. That salt note makes it punchy and addictive. Less masculine leaning than Vibrato, and much smoother than JM Lime Basil Mandarin. Lemony without smelling like cleaner at all. Gorgeous, so fresh, and well-blended. I'm going to try layering it with Bal D'Afrique, or possibly a green tea fragrance, but otherwise, this will be an easy reach for the summer. A great value for the price, I will be definitely be purchasing a full bottle.

Bordering on unisex, this frag ia mostly a salty aromatic Experience. As already said, pretty long lasting, with a good sillage, overall a max of 5-6 hours, maybe more if sprayed on clothes. Not sweer at all, not very citrusy, but a very juicy grapefruit that feels very salty mixes with some aromatic herbs that are green, but not too green:))) It reminds me of the vibe that Chanel’s Cristalle gives, and also of Issey Myiake’s A Scent, minus the galbanim/olibanum it has in the base. A green, aromatic experience that lasts! Well done, Mr Kalotinis!

I own many niche summer perfumes such as Xerjoff Uden Overdose, Xerjoff Accento, Xerjoff Commandante, Carthusia Ammare, Aqua di Parma Chinoto, etc. But I must say Aegean Salt & Citrus from Theodoros Kalotinis is absolutely stunning! This fragrance transports you to the Aegean Sea and surrounding beautiful mediterranean beaches. This is now my new signature summer scent! My 3 P's - Projection 7/10 - Performance 7/10 - Price 9/10

Can citrus be boozy? I’m getting a beach party on the Greek isle of Mykonos, plenty of sun and salty, cool breezes, cocktails in hand; beautiful, native flowers all around. It’s aromatic and fresh but there’s a bit of mischief when the sun goes down. On my bucket list to visit, but in the meantime, there’s Aegean Salt & Citrus. 😉

Breeze of nostalgic feeling - fresh air and a tad of aquaticness. Light, fresh and reminds me of fresh linen. Bad part is the projection and longetivity, but what can you expect? This costs 45$. Amazing fresh citrus fragrance. 9/10

This is the smell of Greek summer! Greek Summer in a bottle! What i love most was that has long lasting effect unlike most of citrus fragrances and it has a unique smell. Its summer paradise in a bottle. Love it!

Nice aquatic scent with a salty twist. I think it’s well blended. No individual notes stick out more than the other, except for the “salt” maybe. Given the price I think it’s a no brainer

Incredibly realistic scent, this smells exactly like my beach towel when I get back home from the beach and it's stiff from the salt in the Aegean.

Theodoros Kalotinis Aegean Salt & Citrus is an aptly-named, fresh blend of sea salt and citrus that transports me to the beach without a heady marine quality (i.e. calone, driftwood, seaweed), not that that would be a bad thing, but its absence makes this fragrance a bit easier for everyone to enjoy. I could certainly wear this every day and in any situation and feel comfortable, as it seems to be reasonably dense and perform reasonably well, even though I’m not testing it in very hot or cold temperatures. While it doesn’t stand out in the way that Coffee Addict does, it’s the type of fragrance that every house and every collector could use, an easy-to-wear, every day salty citrus. And priced at 45 euros for 50ml (like the rest of the EDP line, sold through the house website), it’s very reasonable to acquire in today’s market. 7 out of 10

This is an unusual citrus scent; at least very different from all other citrus freshies in my collection. Citrus notes are combined here with a sea salt accord, which makes the fragrance so interesting. I can also detect some aquatic (not marine) notes, which add a bit of 'watery' sweetness to the scent. In the dry-down I get a 'salty skin' vibe. There's nothing sharp about this fragrance and all notes are blended here to perfection. Aegean Salt & Citrus has moderate projection and very good longevity on my skin (6h+); even in the heat I can smell it for several hours while many other citrus freshies evaporate from my skin with the speed of light. It is an airy, almost fizzy, simple (but not boring) and very versatile unisex scent. Worth checking out!

Indeed this is a unisex offering from Theodoros Kalotinis. To my nose it's super realistic and indeed it smells like a Greek island beach. It's a little bit sweeter than I expected but it's beautiful.Neither the salt accord or the citrus accord are super loud but the blend is very nicely done. I think it's great summer vacation fragrance with great value. I bought it for 40 EUR (43 USD) 50ml. It does have that nice niche vibe which you can't find in your typical Sephora/Douglas etc freshies. I recommend it. A vacation to Thassos/Samothraki/Skiatos/Crete goes along just great with this fragrance.

A very pleasant if expected marine scent. There's something other than just grapefruit, lemon, and salt going on here, some sort of compound invoking those textbook blue notes. A little aldehydic. I don't get lemon on my skin. A classic bright and fresh scent profile, executed quite well. Good projection. Decent longevity, which is good for a blue/citrus that isn't like Axe-level of atomic projection. It's a pleasant enough wear, but part of me wonders if it would make a better room scent or candle than perfume. It's still nice, though. 7/10.

Oh this is so nice. Bright citrus with a pinch of salt. It's not salty-smoky like other so-called marine salty fragrances (for all those Megamare fans!). I like the calming smell that it projects. If Sel Marin smells like fresh sea weed on the beach, Sailing Day smells like a wet wooden floor on a yacht, this one is the beautiful smell of southern sea breeze. Which is very nice. And even though it's not the most natural of all smells, for this price tag it's a great deal.

The notes can’t be limited to just this! It’s quite an aromatic perfume. There’s lemon and salt, but I imagined the salt would be more dominant and lean towards a marine vibe. It felt very, very light to me... something that won’t offend anyone, suitable for summer, and truly unisex. Yet something is missing; it feels more like something on its way to becoming a perfume rather than a complete one. Still, as an Aegean girl, I liked it.
