Laurel Canyon, 1966

my first ever blind buy, and i've half a mind to say this fragrance found *me*. it came up in my recommended and i didn't stop thinking about it for several months. eventually i said fuck it and bought the full bottle, and BOY am i satisfied !!!! immediately on spraying i get spicy, earthy notes, and a wonderful, delicious cannabis flower smell. after a few minutes, the clove and patchouli make themselves apparent. an hour of wear later i found it'd dried down to a delicate, citrusy floral, with hints of spice and greenery whispering above it. i imagine the inside of a coastal vintage store would smell like this. the dry down is gentle, and fresh; it's not as bold and grungy as the opening was, and frankly i'm not upset with that. it's a very versatile wear. i'm interested in trying more from this house. very very nice (would not recommend as a blind buy, the opening is Very powerful and can be offputting) ♡

After trying some of the other samples from the NY collection, and my immense disappointment that Girl of the Year didn’t work on me, I was beginning to wonder if maybe this house just didn’t work on my skin. (It happens.) But then I spritzed this on a wrist. And while I’ll have to give it a full sampling, I think this one and I are going to be good friends this spring summer. It opens a little camphorous on me in a way that called to mind for tree sap (and I was surprised there’s no pine or similar listed). The camphor calms and then I get a green herbal scent, over patchouli - the kind that I like, that makes me think of soil. I don’t smell cannabis, instead I think it contributes to the green herbal smell. I don’t get the cloves, but I only sprayed on a teeny bit since I was worried it wouldn’t work on me. Maybe with a more substantial spray I’d get that and/or the citrus.

Wow. I am in love with this brand, probably the most imaginative collection of scents I have had the luck to sample. This scent delivers exactly what it promises. It's not really an everyday perfume as much as it is an experience of a different time and place. How magical is it that you can be transported to a place in time through smell? I find that experimental perfumes have a tendency to be unwearable and while interesting, not attractive and enticing to other people. But Laurel Canyon, 1966 is as mesmerizing as it is wearable and sexy. It steals you away to a party, near the beach, lighting a joint and dancing in the sunrise. The cannabis note isn't prominent for me, I mostly smell clove and spicy notes. It smells exactly like someone's signature scent, it evokes the 70s, fast cars, lazy days in the sun, and someone's *medicine* cabinet. I love it!

This is a genuinely exciting smell. I can’t say I’ve smelled anything like this before. The cannabis note is more citrus than anything, but still a little green. This is the only green/earthy scent I have ever liked. The initial opening is a complex citrus scent, with the cannabis note shining through (but you don’t really smell like weed? Idk how else to describe it.) The initial dry down (5 mins after) is very clove & citrus, and the cannabis note is less apparent. The complete dry down (1 hr) is citrus, ambergris, clove, and a hint of patchouli. At the end of its very respectable 8 hr wear time, you are left with a hint of clove and patchouli. It’s a very interesting scent, and it goes through a lot of stages. Sillage is absolute beast mode, 10+ ft around the wearer. I’m very impressed with the quality. I recommend trying this out.

The day this arrived in the mail it was 90 degrees and sunny. I spritzed some on (maybe too much), and was immediately inspired. I drove to the beach, sat in the dune grass, smoked a little, and listened to Going to California on repeat. That is how this scent makes me feel. It smelt like a memory from the first spritz. It is androgynous, fresh and green. This is not your grandmothers pachouli or a dirty hippie scent. It is fresh and refined with a hint of good smelling shaving cream. This scent lasts for days on skin and clothing. It goes from citrus to herbal on the dry down but what you smell in the bottle is basically what you get. This has quickly become my signature scent. Sillage is moderate but this scent is relatively inoffensive. If you like the smell of fresh lemons and good bud this is worth the blind buy.

I love this perfume so much! But it took some warming up to, because when I first smelled it (sample vile) I really did NOT like it. The scent was almost repelling; skunky and strong. It wouldn't be another few months before I would come back to it. I started wearing it, nothing, meh, wore it some more....and then something changed. It started smelling better on my skin, even though I had tried it on my skin before, the scent started to evolve or maybe my nose was picking up on the other notes. I don't know what happened, but this wasn't love at first sniff that's for sure. Laurel Canyon was an acquired taste for me, and that's why I love it even more. There is something youthful and a little rebellious about this smell, like skipping class to go on a hike with friends and packing an apple to smoke out of on the way.

I grew up in Laurel Canyon and this perfume is almost more than just a fragrance to me. I live far away from there now and this scent truly makes me feel connected to my childhood neighborhood in a visceral way. The scent is warm and herbal in a way that feels cool and aloof and sexy and when I smell it I can visualize walking down the hill to go to the country store for a bagel on a slow saturday morning. The sillage on this fragrance is great and I frequently get complements on it, specifically citing how unique it is. This is by far one of my most treasured fragrances in my wardrobe and I'd go so far as to call it my signature scent. I'm so grateful that something that can capture a place and time that means so much to me exists. (Sorry If this review was way too personal to be helpful!)

This is SO good. I read that the inspiration for this was the scarf Stevie Knicks used to tie around her mic stand. I feel they completely nailed this. This fragrance is sexy, but not the type of sexy that attracts others-- in fact, the sharp medicinal quality might even be a bit repellant. It's the type of self-assured sexiness that comes from within. The perpetual "it" girl who really could care less what anyone thinks. I get quite a bit of cannabis here, but not teenage stoner. Skunky, hazy, herbal, expensive kush. Kief even. I find myself reaching for this again and again no matter how much I want to try out other fragrances in my collection. I find myself opening the bottle and sniffing mindlessly when I wander past my dresser. For me, it is just absolutely addictive.

The first time I tried this, I wasn't a huge fan. I let it sit in my perfume cabinet for a couple of months and then went back to it and I love it now. It's beautiful, strong, and unisex. The first note I caught was the cannabis. It might be because I do smoke a bit, but it was the first thing I noticed. That specific note died down within half an hour and then you get this lush, complex golden scent. It's herbal and warm and really unique. I like it a lot on myself, it's everything I want (herbal, warm, strong, long-lasting) and more. I tried the other three scents in TWM's collection but this is the best. I literally can't stop wearing it. I smell like I'm the hot girl outside of a party, offering you one of my one-hitters with effortlessly cool/weird makeup.

One of my all-time favorites. Very herbal and almost medicinal with little curls of citrus oil on first spray, but settles into something inexplicably mouth-watering and familiar after a few minutes. The cannabis adds a resinous green note without feeling like anyone's teenage basement, and as a certified clove-hater, I can confirm that the clove here harmonizes so well with the other "bass notes" that they all become greater than the sum of their parts. Jasmine is what prevents this from leaning masculine on me; it feels soft, clean, and earthy, and the gentle funk of the ambergris pulls that clean into something alive and skin-like rather than soapy. If I want to feel fresh but not sterile, this one does it for me.

This is going to sound so weird but at first whiff I instantly am reminded of the bug spray I used to use in the summers when I would ride horses for hours and hours as a kid. And not in a bad way at all, this scent is so nostalgic and comforting that I keep dipping my head to the bend of my elbow for another sniff. After the opening it smells very cool and herbal on me. This is just such a crazy scent memory for me. It's warm horse coat, tangy bug spray (the good kind, that smells like lemon and menthol), sunshine and rain all in one. Like I'm bringing a horse in to the stalls after the rain started. I think I've just talked myself into a full bottle with all that writing.

At all points during its dry-down, this is one of the most ambient fragrance I have ever smelled. it immediately smells like driving through California with your windows down, you get the pine and the warm wood and the smell of cannabis drifting on the wind, the distant fresh sea breeze, all painted on a spicy backdrop. it dries down slightly to release a musky palo santo scent very quickly. this fragrance lasts a long time, but i find the eventual dry down to smell exactly like my Indian uncle. he smells lovely so this is fine, but i wish the fresher notes were more long lasting like the spicy woody ones. in short, very much the essence of california exactly as marketed.

Upon first spraying it is intensely strong with the spicy notes and smells a lot of herbs and grass, which is my least favourite part. But as it settles on the skin, it changes completely and turns into a beautiful summer scent. This is like sitting on your front lawn as the sun is setting on your skin, and nearby a neighbour mows their grass, and you are smoking a joint while messily eating orange slices. It is delicious, and so earthy. On my skin, it is grassy and the hints of sweetness from the orange stays on my skin. It smells heavily of fresh cut grass and is very comforting.

I love this scent. I’ve never smelled the citrus in this but I don’t mind. It does a great job of being green and herbal without smelling like grass. To me it definitely smells of cannabis and cloves, but somehow doesn’t smell completely like either. It’s very hard to describe. The further away I smell, the more it feels like jasmine. The scent feels warm yet fresh? I truly don’t need to spray more than once for this perfume to be in full effect. I find a half spray on each wrist is good enough. The projection on this perfume is sometimes a bit too much for those around me LOL

I didn't like this at first. It was sharp and green and smelled like a hippie. HOWEVER. After a couple of months of wearing it, it's absolutely grown on my. Just pre ordered a full size. It's warm, musky, earthy, and overall such a UNIQUE scent among my age group (early 20's F) where most perfumes my peers wear smell great, but the same. Think Chloe, Tom Ford, Flowerbomb type stuff. This is so different if you're into that. It's warm and reminds me of the mountain air in the Rockies. Great craftsmanship and I love love love this brand.

the orange note plays so nicely with the resinous and herb-insss of this fragrance, very sweet. the way each note performs reminds me of instruments in a band attempting to play the loudest. I’d never expect a fragrance which so much reliance on patchouli and jasmine-most often pungent to my nose-to be one of my favorites if it weren’t for how they harmonized with the tar and sweet citrus. performance time is short which makes me a little sad, and I never really know the “correct” occasion to wear it.

I loved this perfume when I sprayed it on. I simply LOVED it. The blend of clove and jasmine was a revelation to me, and I thought the entire blend was so spicy, dry, green and intriguing. But then the patchouli hit and I was sunk into a 3-day migraine from the dizzying effects of this smell. It scent lasted all day and into the next and had outstanding projection. All this to say — it is a powerhouse scent that I wish I could wear, but I, unfortunately, have learned patchouli and I don't get along.

This scent to me has become my new signature. It is so good. The citrus note and the herbal cannabis note are perfectly blended. The Cannabis doesn't smell like the cheap stuff high schoolers smoke it's refined and has this herbaly spicy medicinal scent. It's smell that even non perfume lovers have given me complements on. This will last you all day and personally I think this can work as a bold everyday scent or as a going out scent, but I might be biased because I'm addicted to the smell.

my absolute favorite perfume. my favorite way to describe it is like a sexy musky man took me on a beautiful hike to go smoke. i personally think that it layers and mixes well with other scents. depending on the season i’ll mix it with something a little bright/fruity or more musky and powdery florals. absolutely love this brand. also it’s what i chose my husband to wear for our wedding and it’s FABULOUS on men as well. one of the few scents he’s actually happy to smell on himself all day.

I love this perfume a lot. There are a lot of nice and pleasant scents, but what makes Laurel Canyon special is that it makes me feel like myself, and I can communicate who I am by wearing it. To me it has a soul. I appreciate so much that it is a pretty scent without relying heavily on florals. It is somehow dirty and down to earth but also sophisticated and chic. She has an adventurous spirit. She has so much life to live. She spends a lot of her life laughing. Smells great on clothes:)

this is so fucking sexy everytime I sniff it I wanna cry at how beautiful it is wow. This and Darkest Violet by Andromeda’s Curse are the only fragrances I’ve smelt that give me a visceral physical reaction (in a good way) like I’m literally attracted to them. I was very nervous about the cannabis note because I didn’t wanna smell like straight up weed but it just smells fresh and bright and beautiful, very terpenic. A tinyyy bit spicy. Clean but not boring. I want a full size so bad

Stunning work from Cathleen on this one. The birch tar was too overpowering at first, but after wearing it in different environments, I find this fragrance sparkling and beautiful. Herbal and sweet from the citrus, it smells like a summer walk in the forest after passing a joint around. I like wearing it when I go into nature or on hot summer nights out, it is versatile enough that it feels glamourous and laid-back at the same time. Heavy compliment getter, this perfume is just cool.

this is for grass-stained, grass-smoking, natural deodorant-wearing, canvas bag-toting weirdos. it's a little grungy-dirty, but also so warm and inviting, and imo just shy of approachable; summer in a bottle, for those who dislike aquatics. TWM has so many unique, absolute BANGER fragrances, but this is by far my favorite. patchouli and citrus are two notes that i tend to steer away from, but they are expressed beautifully in combination with laurel canyon.

I really love what this brand is doing. Someone else here described it as “a sexy, musky man on a hike that went to go take a smoke” which is extremely apt. Not for me personally but I’d LOVE to smell this on a partner. And I respect the brand as they’ve done a really great job filing my mind with 60s sunshine imagery. I want to get stoned and be driven around Ojai at sunset while listening to Beechwood Park by the Zombies or Let the Light In by LDR.

Thin Wild Mercury is BY FAR my favorite perfume brand. Lauren Canyon has become my sig. scent and I am obsessed. As soon as I spray it I am transported back in time and it truly does compliment my (and my fiance's) aesthetic. While I do detect the cannabis, I can still wear this perfume to work and not get strange looks from others. This is my most complimented perfume; I am obsessed with the scent, the bottle, and TWM's aesthetic entirely.

Laurel Canyon, 1966 is a fresh, herbal fragrance that is strong on the cannabis, grapefruit, and patchouli. It wears like weed, but not like your skunky high school stoner. More like something expensive, exotic. It’s a very unique fragrance that I can’t see just anyone wearing. Props to the nose! It is a daytime, summer fragrance. It’s a good price, it’s unisex, it’s got moderate sillage, and it’s got moderate lasting power. I’m pleased!

This is a southern california scent and I love it. Yes, there's a slight hippie scent, but it's a lingering coolness. If you want a 70s vibe, but one that someone can't quite place and you like citrus scents but don't want too much sweet, this is the scent. Perfect name too. This is for a girl that wants to smell delicious, but you can't quite put a finger on it. I wear it with almond lotion and sometimes an old-school perfume.

Laurel Canyon 1966 What a fucking time. How am I nostalgic for a place I’ve never been, in a time I’ve never been? This lingers; you forget you’re wearing it until all of the sudden it floats up and hits you. Kind of like the sensation of feeling like you were born in the wrong generation. It’s deep, resinous, and Smokey with a little bit of a bite, but shes not too serious at any point.

I never got to experience the '70s, but this fragrance seems like the closest I will get. It's so gorgeous. I was a bit nervous about the cannabis note when I first heard about this scent four years ago, but it's not skunky at all. It's a 'sparkling' cannabis. Smells like a beautiful eccentric girl from 1973. One of my all-time favorites.

When i first sprayed this i just got a big wiff of slightly cirtusy weed. Once it dried down it smells like an amazing herbal smokey citrus. Lots of patchouli. I ADORE this. It smells oddly nostalgic yet completely unique. And it is STRONG. This is the perfect summer scent. Maybe not for every day use but for a night of debauchery.

Have you ever wanted to smell like a sexy tree? Then this is the scent for you. Laurel Canyon to me smells exactly like pine trees warmed by the sunshine. I love this scent, but over time have found the patchouli dry-down to be a little monotone. I still love this for layering, or if I'm in the mood for a bit more of a masc scent.

My idea of a summer fragrance. This whole house is amazing and there isn’t one that I would turn down but this is my only full bottle out of New York and Los Angeles. This smells like dry grass, ashed incense, sun drenched citrus and dash of sweet amber/musk. Every scent is cool girl chic. No notes 10 out of 10 for this one.

Ughhhh such a beautiful nostalgic scent. Reminds me of growing up in Texas and the way that old buildings and the outdoors used to smell there. I fell in love with this many years ago but sadly, my skin chemistry must have changed or something. Now it just kind of smells sour on me...Please wear this one for me <3

I enjoy this more "clean" take on cannabis. I find it refreshing and light almost like a matcha boba.It's light and fresh while still charting a unique course which I fully enjoy. Wish it were just a bit stronger. Strikes a perfect balance between clean, perfumy and herbal.

This scent makes me feel cool...like 70’s soft rock hip. That seems to be the intention. It’s perfectly unisex. Bright but still earthy. The patchouli is definitely noticeable, but it is well blended with the citrus and cannabis notes. It has a top spot in my collection.

Tried this for the first time today and already I can say that it’s got to be a favorite scent of all time. It’s that good. This perfume really feels perfectly me . I wouldn’t change a thing about it. Expertly crafted. I’m speechless, in a good way.

The earthyness is too good for me to handle. I love it. I feel like I should be frolicking with my lover smoking weed and sorting herbs. Gahhhh I love absolutely addicted to every single fragrance from this line.

THE summer staple for running around and cartwheeling. I would even spray this on a grimy rainy winter's day as an instant pick-me-up. Love love love love this. Bought a full bottle immediately.

This is really well done. I thought it was a little boring at first, but it really grew on me after a few weeks and now I love it. Very green with a cool spicy foundation.

I think this is by far my favorite scent from TWM. Smells exactly what I can imagine California smelt like in the 70's. We know this diva (its me when i wear it)

reminds me of my best friend. weed and freshly laundered cotton on a sunny day. truly beautiful scent; herbaceous, masculine, and comfortably dreamy.

A patchouli bomb in a classy way. Two sprays of this and your scent will trail through the supermarket, in your car, along the sidewalk. This perfume is time travel in a bottle: this smells like a pair of flare jeans and an Afghan coat, a paisley headscarf, a record player scratching in the background of a nice house when you’re too stoned to get up and change the track. This really is daisy jones and the six in a smell- I can see why this brand exploded on tik tok. The dry down is as nice as the initial spray- a bit calmer, but just as earthy and interesting. This would have been my signature scent ten years ago, but I now have a partner that ‘hates’ patchouli. I can get away with sneaking in mid century modern furniture, but this is too obviously ‘hippie’ for me to rock everyday without getting a nose wrinkle. As soon as I put it on, they smelt the patchouli from the next room (another hint how strong this scent trail is.) Luckily, they adore the smell of me in both Zuma and Chateau so i won’t miss out on the TWM magic. If you want to smell like the coolest person in the room- this is your juice.

This review took a while to really formulate for me, I had to give it several tries and like six months for me to actually like it. At first spray it has a STRONG green / patchouli smell for me. Not really incense but more like grassy hay. About five minutes later is when I read start to enjoy it. The green scent remains but notes of cannabis and “after the rain” are more forward to my nose and it feels like a summer day spent outside in the country, which is nostalgic to me. It’s warm and very strong but never citrus. I wouldn’t wear this to the office because of the projection of the cannabis/patchouli notes lol. It’s a really good perfume for casual hippie vibes though.

Laurel Canyon smells like a half emptied bottle of orange soda was topped the rest of the way off with fresh patchouli, a tablespoon of clove, and the rind of a perfectly ripe grapefruit, shaken up and sprayed on a hot blacktop. It's interesting for sure. The clove and herbs are what find me first and hit me hardest. After it dries it's mostly a sweet tangy orange with a spiced undertone. I revisited this one after a long time to review it and I've discovered a fondness for it. I haven't found much like Laurel Canyon and intend giving it a few wears out this time.

On my skin I got the citrus in the opening and then it dried down to a soft, comfy green smell. The herbal notes really came out on me and this went almost a little minty, with just a hint of a cannibis scent underneath in the best way. Really unique from other "green" fragrances I've tried. Basically smells like you're at the fanciest pool party you can imagine at someone's rich mansion in LA. Pretty good sillage throughout the morning, then fades in the afternoon/evening, with about an 8 hr wear time overall on skin.

Herby and citrusy without being too fruity. Sweet without being gourmand. Smells like fresh clean air from the mountains. It's slighly smoky and earthy. The opening is kind of strange but it quickly settles. Definitely unique. Ever so spicy, green and intriguing. It kind of reminded me somewhat of the smell of petrichor. I couldn't pick up on the cannabis but that's on me, maybe because I was searching for the smell of a joint and not a bud.

For all you Lushheads out there, Laurel Canyon 1966 is like a perfume version of one of my favourite Lush offerings, Happy Hippy shower gel. The grapefruit and patchouli combination is spot on. It's a little too clean and green for me to want to wear it - it's very bitter on my skin with a strong soapy vibe, which is not my thing. I prefer Whisky 1969 over this one, but that's not to say this isn't lovely.

This smelled a lot like bay leaves on me all the way through; with the cloves it made me smell a bit like food, but in a nice spice market kind of way. However, the dry down is a lot more floral and a bit citrusy with hints of leather, which tones down the bay leaves. It's a really nice perfume for spring or summer nights, and I feel like it would also be a nice house scent.
