Whisky, 1969

I love this fragrance so much. One of my favorites. It's very unique and bold. Warm, spicy, boozy, dark and slightly sweet as it develops on the skin. If the word 'badass' was a fragrance, it'd be Whiskey. The raspberry is what stands out on my skin the most. And when I say raspberry, I don't mean a synthetic girly raspberry. I'm talking about a booze soaked raspberry. The nutmeg, amber and cardamom are definitely there and they're bold. But they support the boozy raspberry beautifully. Even though there's some spice, it's such a smooth fragrance. I'm addicted. This perfume has me in a chokehold! I always look forward to fall/winter bc this really shines in the cooler weather for me. Don't get me wrong, I will occasionally wear this in the Florida heat when I'm craving this scent.. like on a humid summer night when there's a slight breeze. And it smells just as amazing. It does lean slightly more feminine on my skin but it's definitely a unisex fragrance. I'd recommend sampling this before buying a full size though. I don't see this being everyone's cup of tea. But you will have to pry it from my dead cold hands bc it's a forever love for me. Whiskey, 1969 is the perfume that all the badass rocker chicks like Joan Jett, Pat Benatar, Stevie Nicks and Lita Ford would've worn.

Every time I wear this someone comments on how good I smell. In the bottle, many don’t see the vision (incorrectly) but on the skin it just comes alive. I could write sonnets about this perfume. I look forward to cold weather merely because of this perfume. I dread the day I don’t have it anymore. It feels like you are wearing art. Whisky is so unique and atmospheric, those around you are drawn into the story of it. I cannot wear this everyday for fear of spoiling the magic. I am transported in time and place when I spray this, somewhere I have always dreamed to belong. Please read the description on the website, as I cannot do this justice. I love the cult following surrounding this perfume and finding those who appreciate it, as they are always the coolest people. This perfume feels like “if you get it you get it, if you don’t you don’t.” I have yet to find a fragrance that feels as “me” as this one does. It’s spicy, ambery, a tad sweet. It’s so cozy yet effortlessly cool. IF I layer, I do so with Vanilla 28 for an even sweeter experience. I hope to meet Cathleen one day as she is such an expert perfumer and incredibly underrated for the artwork she does. All of her scents are incredible, this one just “gets me” the most.

Whiskey, my beloved. I've been holding onto the sample I got years ago for only the most special of occasions but thought I'd exhaust one of the last sprays to refresh my mind for the review. I adore Whiskey the fragrance, not so much the liquor. Which is exactly what this smells like. It's incredibly alcoholic on opening and it's the only part of this perfume I'm not in love with. Very quickly it softens and becomes almost rummy with spice. The peppercorn nutmeg blend reads more cinnamon. I can nearly taste it. Whiskey is perfectly warming for a late autumn or winter wear though I'd have it on me year round if I had the juice to spare. Raw cut cedar takes up a good amount of space and is so comforting. I've experimented with layering it a few times and found it pairs well with a lot of smoky, leather, or tobacco forward scents. My favorite from the LA collection and possibly from all Thin Wild Mercury has to offer. I could write a hundred rooms and people and memories to pair with this one but I think I'll leave it here. Do yourself a favor and get a sample.

Never have I received a sample and immediately decided that I'd be buying the full sized bottle as soon as I could. This scent is literally everything I've been looking for. It's spicy, it's sexy, it's androgynous but still feminine. It's a scent that you definitely need to be the "right person" for. This scent is a club in the 70's summer, the burst of lights and glitter in a darkened room. This is the taste and warmth of an old fashioned made with a high quality whiskey, the taste of oranges and cherries a soft background music to the much darker alcohol it blends with. It's Eros when he first laid eyes on Psyche and felt those stirrings of a desire that he knew was dangerous, but he just couldn't resist. It's a siren in a scent, and I'm not lying when I say I am truly caught by this. I'm definitely purchasing the full size as soon as I possibly can, but until then, I'll most likely be wearing this every day.

If I could buy hundreds of bottles of this so I’d never run out and could wear it for the rest of my life, I would. I love perfume but struggle with designer brands as I find they always give me an instant headache or overstimulate me, but I’ve never had that issue with this perfume and can happily wear it all day with no problem. I love how it works with my skin and I can smell different notes throughout the day. It’s my perfect perfume. Sometimes I wear it with a gourmand amber oil to make it a little bit sweeter for the day time or some cinnamon oil to add to the sweet spiciness. My boyfriend absolutely loves when I wear it and can’t stop kissing and smelling me, he says the smell turns him on and he’s even worn it a few times layered with his comme des garçon woody fragrance, which it smells delicious with! Whisky is a 10/10 for me and has become my signature scent.

Wow what a cool fragrance. I’ve sampled bought and tested SO many niche perfumes and am pretty disappointed 90% of the time (not in the quality of them, but in the wearability, pleasantness and/or magnetism). This was the first out of about 50+ perfumes I’ve tried that was unequivocally 100% NOT a disappointment in any way. It smells like a dark wooden bar in the best way. Woody, spicy, boozy, and slightly smoky. Now Ive seen and smelled lots of other scents with a similar profile, but this is the best by far imo. It’s art. It’s deep, intriguing, comforting, and cozy all at the same time. I’m surprised to not see any comparisons to angels share by killian. This reminds me of a more complex version of that. Hats off to Cathleen Cardinali, shes seriously talented. The other three scents in this collection are wonderful too but this is my favorite for sure.

This fragrance makes an entrance. From the first spray it’s bold, spicy, and unapologetically assertive- like liquor soaked into vintage leather in the corner of a smoky jazz lounge. There’s a sharpness up top, almost jarring at first, but it quickly settles into something much smoother, warmer and sultry. Once it’s on the skin, it softens into a smoky, resinous leather that’s equal parts mysterious and grounded. There’s a quiet richness underneath all the grit- like aged wood, tobacco, and worn-in suede. You wear this when you want to feel powerful, a little unruly, and completely in control of your space. It’s not for everyone, and it’s definitely not a safe blind buy! If you’re not into spicy, smoky notes or assertive leather, this won’t convert you. But if those are your thing - it’s a beautiful, well-crafted scent that tells a story.

Whisky, 1969 – Whisky 1969 This one opens strong, bold, and slightly bitter: definitely a fragrance that makes a statement right away. Whisky, 1969, my first impression on my skin is cedar and boozy warmth, touched with a hint of sweet fruit that softens the edges just enough. The nutmeg is very noticeable and provides the fragrance with a spicy backbone. It initially comes across as bold, but it evolves into something deeper and more intriguing. The drydown is resinous, earthy, and woody, offering a comforting warmth that feels high-quality and complex. This is not a safe blind buy. It has a strong character and won't be for everyone. On me, it reads very unisex and has moderate longevity, leaving a cozy trail. For some reason, it gives me strong Christmas and holiday vibes ?? warm spices, wood, and a little boozy sweetness.

First spray evokes a sweaty man on a humid day who showered with a woodsy body wash that morning. It’s got this grimy, spicy bite laying in the middle due to the cardamom. Nutmeg is here instead of cinnamon for a reason, but adding pink pepper into the mix completely negates that softness and you still get a spicy, nose scrunching punch to the face. But the dry down is delicious. It’s surprisingly sweet — kind of like running through a somehow sweet, syrupy forest of cedar. It’s like...being hugged by a memory you had long forgotten. It’s like feeling fragments of yourself deeply embedded in your heart coming up to the surface. People are describing this as sexy but it is purely romantic to me. I was quick to give away my first decant and now I own a full bottle.

I made a fragrantica account just to review this fragrance. It is my favorite smell in the world and my signature scent. I blind bought this perfume a little over a year ago after wanting something from Thin Wild Mercury for years. I’ve fallen in love with it ever since. The way it sits on my skin personally feels so natural: like my house just smells good and I waft that. I know that the popular consensus is that this is an Autumn/Winter perfume, but this fragrance exudes summer to me. The spicy sticky sweetness of this perfume is like a hot summer night in the woods. Lounging next to a bonfire, sweaty bodies, being slightly drunk, dancing, watching the sun set into a neon orange and purple hue. Although I will also say it’s also perfect for anytime of the year.

It smells like pie spice and whiskey up front. Like a boozy apple pie, without any apple. When it dries down, you’re able to notice the raspberry and amber. I understand all the love for this fragrance, but there’s definitely a time and a place for it. It’s too syrupy and warm for summer. I get lots of compliments on this one, specifically from a cousin who says it smells like it should be a candle. I can see people who like pumpkin candles liking this fragrance. However, it’s potent. It’s not a good wear for a subtle place or work, but I’d totally back it up as a date night fragrance. I recommend carrying a travel spray as you notice it more when you first spray it than after time. It’s very unisex, and my favorite gourmand.

Honestly this is sex in a bottle. This scent is the most popular for a reason. Upon first spraying, its the scent of sweet delicious iced cola, really a whiskey coke. The spiciness mixes so good with the sweetness this perfume has, and the woody notes are awfully comforting, as if being in a bar late at night and the ceilings are made of damp wooden logs. I have never smelled a perfume that is sweet and spicy, yet so boozy at the same time. This perfume is plain sexy, like getting more and more confident chugging down more shots. That one review saying it is like doing whiskey shots and making sweet love then having sweet pancakes is 100% correct. This is my most favourite fragrance of the collection.

I have never encountered a perfume with such a prominent cardamom note, and it truly does work in this fragrance, it starts off as spicy and heady, exactly like a bar with smoke and booze would smell. The ylang-ylang is very easy to make out as well, which is lovely since ylang-ylang isn't overly floral, while giving an elegant flowery note to the heavy scent. I don't know if this is just unique to my own body, but it does develop into a only slight lingering smoke-sweet smell, and instead dissipates into a slightly sour flowery/musk smell. So I'm not such a fan of it once it settles, but that may be different for everyone. Honestly, I recommend this to anyone, just to try and see.

One of my favourites, it's very sexy and smoky. the first spray is bright but it quickly dries down to smoky, sweet, almost incensey. To me it smells like youre at a bar in winter with friends, maybe you'll go home with someone maybe you won't. Its smoky sultry cozy and self assured all in one. its a great night time and going out scent, but it's also great for those cold days where all you want to do is bake, journal, listen to music, really just let yourself be lazy so lovely. on me the cardamom, nutmeg, booziness and smoke really come through. definitely understand why some might not like it, but if you enjoy vintage scents its great. this and chateau 1970 absolutely gorgeous

This is a perfume I wore to my appointment when I got an aspirational Joan Jett-esque style for my hair. Because Whisky makes me feel like a fucking rockstar. Fragrantica does ok with relaying notes and scent profiles, but pales in describing the way this scent feels; warm and bold, sweetness and depth, eternal and of an era so nostalgic and specific— it makes my heart jump at the remembrance of how much I loved my time living in Los Angeles off of Cahuenga, just next to the 101 overpass. Anecdotally; I was so eager to share my sample with friends that loved it- and that I’m delighted that they bought their own bottles 🥃 cheers to good taste!

I bought the LA sample set and to be honest, this was the last one i thought I’d like. Looking just at the notes, i usually stay far away from fragrances like this. They tend to be too sickly sweet, cloying and turn rancid on my skin. I even sprayed it on a tester strip and didn’t like it. Despite all of this, I tested it on my skin. And holy wow, it completely transformed into a stunning boozy spice bomb that i absolutely loved. The cardamom is deep and playful and the whiskey is sticky and intoxicating. It dances on such a delicate line of sweetness, but handles it beautifully. It’s strong and sexy and mysterious. This is a masterpiece.

This is the perfect blend of spicy and soft, and it feels vintage and evocative while still being unique and fresh. Like, this is how I imagine Stevie Nicks smelled in the Fleetwood Mac heyday. On my skin, I get the nutmeg, cardamom, and cedar the most, which gives in a little bit of a smoky woodiness. As it dried down, I got more of the amber, but it never got too overwhelming and stayed just the right amount of sweet. This would make the perfect fall or winter fragrance, especially for nighttime. I had good sillage for a few hours (not overpowering but noticeable), and a respectable 9 hours of wear overall.

i ordered TWM’s LA sample set SOLELY for a sample of this, as supposedly florence welch wears it. now for anyone who doesn’t know me, i love florence welch and have the biggest gay crush on her. upon smelling this for the first time, i felt weak in the knees and could have collapsed. it’s so warm, spicy, yet inviting. its so intoxicating. i love it. when i wear it, however, i don’t feel sexy or mysterious or enticing like a lot of the reviews say- i just feel like a gay girl who has a really big crush on a singer and ordered a perfume because of it. now on florence welch, i’m sure it would make me pass out.

This is one of the best perfumes I've ever smelled, and I mean that. I agree with the other comments in that it has an effortless sex appeal to it. It's gorgeous without trying, almost like slipping on a worn leather jacket. There's something comforting about this too, like the smell of your father's favored booze. I will admit that at some level it does smell a tad grimy, but in a well-loved way, not in a "I've been sleeping in a trash can" way. If I want to sweeten this up I layer it with Lord of Misrule, but it's also perfect on its own. Would highly recommend to anyone seeking to be -that- girl.

I’ve had my bottle of Whiskey 1969 for 3yrs now (I got it for Christmas 2020) and it’s aged beautifully. The raspberry note is even stronger than it was last winter. On my skin, it’s a boozy raspberry with amber, spices and woodsy notes. On my skin, there's also a smokiness that gives this fragrance an edgy vibe. Definitely a great choice for fall and winter. It’s a holy grail cold weather fragrance for me. One that I’ll repurchase over and over bc I have to have a bottle in my collection. I’m an over-sprayer, but I have to be reserved with this one since it’s so strong. It wears like an extrait!
