Fuego Futuro Extrait de Parfum

There is something special about Fuego Futuro. I am positive this was meant for me, as I know the smell of smoke and earth is not for everybody. But for some reason it is for me. The moment I sprayed this on, I was instantly transported to a place I didn't know, but I feel as though I could recognize. I can see it in my mind. It wasn't something I see on a daily basis or even a place I went to during a special event or memory. This image in my mind feels like a long time ago, that is very comforting. Like the back of your hand after a long and restful night sleep. It's very hard to explain, that this fragrance takes me there. If you think this sounds a bit supernatural you are absolutely correct. I hate to say it, but yes it does connect me in that kind of way. And it was instant. It wasn't something I had to conjure or really think about or piece together. It felt like a flashback. How mysterious our olfactory senses work. It is indeed like our third eye! One of our senses in regards to smell and memory sits directly behind what some would consider their third eye. I find that incredibly interesting. If we believe that to be true, and I sincerely hope it is, then maybe what I am smelling and conjuring may in fact be a real memory instead of a daydream. That's pretty cool especially if this fragrance got me there!

Cedarwood and sandalwood in all its glory. This brilliance includes elements, a subtle hint of smoke in the background, and incense. All of this happens in the opening, with a distant scent of a dry green combination of shadows. There’s a slight, very slight, dampness at the start, but it’s very unique and incredibly captivating. Noticeably special and different, very harmoniously crafted. After a few minutes, the pronounced smoky nuances fade into the background but can still be detected from time to time (in a pleasant way). The fragrance then transforms into something slightly creamy, clean, and mildly herbal. Truly a beautifully composed scent, with solid longevity and projection. I imagine this perfume somewhere in nature; as a person from a continental area, a walk in the woods is ideal for this fragrance, or perhaps a garden... I also see it as a Mediterranean scent, something to wear while staying in the shade and reading a book by the sea during the hot summer months. This scent heals the soul. Beautiful.

This smells exactly like how early 2000s curling irons smell, burnt from sitting on the counter. When I first smelled this in-store I thought it was maybe just a synthetic hairspray thing, but after sitting with my sample it's for sure curling iron. As a result, yay nostalgia points for moi! The opening provides a rich incense, lightened by a blanket of balsamic woodchips. Becomes cleaner and zestier into the drydown, eventually gaining some warmth through the rising sandalwood. However, the ash still keeps things cool, straying from the fireplace or tobacco pipe ash note I feel is often replicated in ashy/smokey scents. I'm noticing this odd trend of finding comfort in a scent and then it almost always having a hay note? Sandalwood is also very comforting, overall and in this scent specifically, and I am eternally glad I have not encountered any sandalwood pickles (yet...) ;p

Rather a snapshot of a feeling for me. It’s a very hot summer day, perhaps in August. The sun is in the late afternoon, and the golden hour colors the trees and grass. Due to the high temperature, the meadow is dried out, releasing a signature scent of dried greenery, sage, and even unknown wildflowers and weeds. Crickets are chirping. The temperature has slightly dropped, and freshness comes from the thuja trees. A gentle scent of a long-extinguished fire drifts in from a nearby garden. Or perhaps the ashy note comes from the sun itself, burning the dark soil beneath the dried grass. A lovely, calming scent that captures a beautiful moment of a passing summer.

For me, this is really evocative of walking through a pine forest on a blazing hot and dry day in August as the needles on the ground bake in the sun. It’s almost arresting. Red flag warning—High fire danger! And it’s just now occurring to me that that may be why it’s called Future Fire. If so, the perfumer nailed it, and I am thoroughly impressed!

So classy. It does get a bit too smoky for me sometimes as well but such an amazingly blended fragrance overall.

"Pickles & Ash" Now, I know the title doesn't sound particularly enticing in the context of a fragrance composition. I mean, pickles? And ash? What's next, wet cardboard and printer toner? Well, despite of my title putting Fuego Futuro in a bit of a hotspot, especially for the €300 it asks for, it sure did gain your attention if you read up until this point. But trust me, somehow Fuego Futuro ends up being arguably one of, if not the best juice Thomas de Monaco has to offer. That pickled attribute immediately grabs you by the neck as soon as you spray it. It's that recognizable pungency of sour acidity also reminiscent of vinegar. But don't worry; there's other parts of the scent that slowly move that pickled accent towards a supporting actor. And yes, by the way, I absolutely love that pickled touch. Anyways, a generous dosage of pepper further aids in the pungent kick, but it brings a more "zesty" spicy character, that zest pairing nicely with the piney freshness, almost citric, from the elemi. Then there's the Maté, which not only plays a crucial role in the green structure of the fragrance, but it also appends a rich hay-ish accord - herbaceous, astringent and gently bitter. You might get hints of tobacco too. But regardless if the Maté did or did not contribute with a hay-like accord, the latter was inevitable as hay is an actual note here. As it steps in, things turn a little more dry, yet gently sweet too (honeyed almost?). The smoke starts filling the scene soothingly so from the incense, whilst providing a resinous backbone that the elemi started. Furthermore, there's some sage that emits a somewhat cooling, camphorous aroma, but without ever going overboard or stealing the spotlight. And then, there's what's left once the flame fades: ash. I believe this is beautifully implemented here. Its dusty coldness, the way it smells so "quiet" and "calm" compared to just smoke, fits so well in this composition and it provides a great base along with dry cedarwood bits to ground the whole scent. By now, that pickle-like vibe sits calmer, less harsh, but very much still detectable. And I just find that, along with the resinous support and ashy, dry hay-like accords, to offer a quite unique experience, and one of the green fragrances with the most character that I've tried so far. Without being too surprised, Fuego Futuro managed to reach 12 hours on my skin; a rather expected output given the fairly strong presence throughout. However, it wasn't quite as strong overall in pushing power. It kept a consistent bubble around me for the first two hours, and I'd often get whiffs of it here and there. But it would never turn intrusive, not even for someone sitting beside me. Still, it did keep projecting mildly up until around the 4 hour mark, give or take. I expected a little more in projection, to be honest. Ease of wear will largely depend on you. It's one of those scents that if you genuinely don't like, it might intuitively also feel less versatile. And no, that's not how it generally works for every fragrance. I constantly encounter scents that I do not like, but are extremely versatile and wearable (that in part being one of the reasons I don't like it). Regardless, for those that do enjoy Fuego Futuro, more standout occasions fit the bill better. It's not quite an everyday scent, unless you can afford a €300/30ml fragrance as a daily pick, nor the most office friendly option. But for something like outdoor events in spring or summer, I'd certainly consider it. I like Fuego Futuro and it almost feels wrong. Even though I haven't tried all the house has to offer, what I've tried so far has not impressed and frankly, it has disappointed me (looking at you Eau Coeur (2022) and Grand Beau (2022)). Raw Gold Extrait was decent, albeit a bit too sweet, but Fuego Futuro for sure takes the spot as the house's standout piece, in my opinion, and I doubt any other of their offerings would dethrone it. I quite enjoy the astringency of Fuego Futuro and those ashy heaps of hay which are so addictive to me. BUT, despite all these, paying €300 for 30ml is still too much, closing in on artisanal perfumery. That will be hard to justify, even for others who might like the scent more than me. But if any of Thomas de Monaco's fragrances are worth a try, then Fuego Futuro sure is it. First fragrance of Thomas De Monaco. After testing it in store I must say I was really impressed by the house so I tested Sol Salgado and Grand Beau as well. I was testing so many fragrances in store at the time and couldn't remember which was which... although there was one fragrance on my right wrist I couldn't let go of and kept sniffing, and later I came to the realisation it was Fuego Futuro. To me Fuego Futuro is a smoky fragrance, reminding me of a rougher Maison Margiela's By The Fireplace, and a softer Terroni by Orto Parisi, both for the better. I think this fragrance is more refined compared to the former two and the dry down is really worrh the wait.

That's the smell of the neighbour burning bushes cuts after clearing up their garden on a sunday afternoon! I really like how atmospheric this scent is. It's my sixth and last sample from this house but also my favourite!

I love the sophisticated reviews going on below. The hype is real and i do agree with most that this scent paints a interesting picture. With the earthy notes and the burnt hay, just a touch of green, flowers and fresh water, like a late summer evening in a nice forresty setting, somewhere where it gets scorching hot during the day. The dry-down is beautifull. But its a pass. Listen dont hate me for saying this, but the opening is to much. There are a lot of people that are going to think you smell like McDonalds madsauce, ..and thats just to close to Ronald McDonalds signiature scent for me.

Light wearable incense scent. The scent opens briefly with mate, elemi and slight pepper. The heart is incense with slight sage and a hay like note. The perfume dries off to a synthetic calone base with slight cedar and sandalwood. On the plus side it is not a church like heavy incense scent. On the flip side it is quite watery and does not leave a new or lasting impression. The unisex scent has moderate sillage and longevity. Enjoy!

not for me, smells synthetic. 5/10 edit: 6/10 on my skin, i find it much more likeable on it second edit: the dry down with sandalwood makes this fragrance much more enjoyable and creamy, still a 6 though

Soft citrus opening followed by smoky hay. I can defintly smell the incense and ash.

Grand Beau was an instant love for me and I wore this most of the summer, which is something that I rarely do, wear the same perfume for a long time. So I was really excited with the recent release of the 3 new fragrances by Thomas De Monaco. Fuego Futuro seemed to be the scent that I would enjoy the most. I managed to get a sample this as well as Raw Gold. I wore it three days straight and I have to say that I did try to just like Fuego Futuro but I can't. If feels like a cheap scent lacking depth and personality. I mostly get cheap green incense notes on my skin. Don't really get the smoke/ash scent which may be a good thing. Makes me think of a car freshener, so it's a pass for me. Hope its better on your skin

Herbal and aromatic at the beginning, but in one hour delicious dewy green freshness with a hint of smoke transforms into soapy base which I don't like at all. The great overture and rather awful development, IMHO.

i never got pickle from santal 33, but i REALLY did from this. It’s alright once the top is gone, and while I tend to love sandalwood this just isn’t a very good one etiket winter 23 sample set

There's no scent of an incense. It's pickles and fermented kale??? Agree with someone mentioning that the smell is disturbing. Such a poetic description but a poor blend.

Am I the only one to smell pickles in the opening? Maybe it's one of the sandalwood qualities? An off-putting and disturbing note for me:( Although Fuego Futuro has smoke, incense, and ash in the composition, it's a pleasant light smoky fragrance with herbal/aromatic quality, as if you are enjoying a picnic in a late October - early November forest. The smoky notes (mate is also partially "smoky" for me) stand for a campfire; sage, hay, and cedar - a slightly chill, late October - early November fading forest while obscure sandalwood is a warm and friendly hug that makes the fragrance cozy. To me, Fuego Futuro is quite balanced and one of those fragrances that are not smoke powerhouses. Good concoction, though I am not a fan of sandalwood (which is here, again, obscure and doesn't stand out much).

I read here that Fuego Futuro smelled like a hot August day in the countryside. The hay and ash notes do in fact conjure silent, sometimes suffocating landscapes - yet with a hidden pulse of vital energy - that can feel sorrowful in their desolation, like summer burning itself out. It's reminiscent of laying on dry grass watching the Pereseids. However, the heavy dose of incense ruins it a bit. It would need mote green notes to truly invoque this feeling. A sexy perfume, for hot summer nights on a terrace. Great longevity and sillage, but not full bottle worthy for me. Everyone who has lived in California knows the smell of wildfire season. Whether it’s the controlled burn or a raging wildfire, there’s a very distinctive odor. Fuego Futuro smells like living an hour or two away from the fire and the fear of it spreading. It’s sunburned hay, ash in the air, and the blistering, dry heat of summer. Even still, I find this do be a cold weather scent because it really projects. I love wearing this on a cold, wet day in NYC and reminiscing about late summers in Northern California.

I hated this at first sniff and then put the sample away. Tried it again a year later...one small spray to the chest before I went to the gym. I kept smelling it throughout the morning. Almost like a pine forest wafting up from my shirt. Beautiful.

Got to borrow a sample of this from a friend long before the perfume was released, and maaaan this is too good. A brilliant scent that I will have to purchase ASAP!
