Neo Eden

THOMAS DE MONACO NEO EDEN Neo Eden is a mix of fruity and floral notes but it has very unique features that I haven't come across before and the scent as a whole feels surreal, but it's still easy to like. The name of the scent reflects it particularly well - it's like a lush colorful garden, not classic, nor royally geometric with natural colors, but enigmatic, youthful, modern and even futuristic with bright glowing colors. It is lively and energetic, cheerful and optimistic. Although the feel is surreal, the scent is distinguished by realistic individual notes. It has tart, crispy and tangy aromas of rhubarb and grapefruit is not mentioned but it comes and goes to my nose. The peach brings a delicious juiciness, but it is not sweet. All this is mixed into a powdery and fresh floral blend and a surprising addition is the very realistic whipped cream aroma and also a light floral creaminess in texture. The scent develops from a clear brightness and freshness at the beginning to a whipped cream flavored with rhubarb and peach with powdery flowers. The freshness fades and is replaced by a thick, matte fullness. Neo Eden is intriguing, surprising and unique but it but it doesn't cross the line by being difficult to approach, on the contrary it’s very versatile and easy to love. There's something really addictive about it and it's thanks to the contrasts: soft creaminess spiced by a tart, crunchy fruit note, covered in a sweetly soft powdery finish. There are two unusual notes in the fragrance and I wanted to find more out about them. According to Dominique Lelièvre (Ingredients Research Perfumer) “NymphealTM is an outstanding fresh and opulent muguet ingredient, with a linden blossom accent bringing tremendous volume and creaminess.” Sclarene is like a base note in this fragrance because it has good substantivity and fixative properties even without bringing strong aromas like musky or woody ones. It creates the warmth and smoothness and adds modern quality here but it can also contain very different notes from different categories. The concoction is intriguing: it manages to combine uniqueness, interest, and versatility, and with surprising associations and imagination, it gives strength to dull office days. I've genuinely never smelt anything like this before. It is adjacent to any number of fruity freshies but has a very different feel. I have always liked Thomas de Monaco's work and have enjoyed everything of theirs that I've got my nose on. I think their work is clever, very well produced and consistently high quality. My favourite of theirs is Raw Gold which is a woody, spicy and extremely rich powerhouse of a scent that leans masculine. Neo Eden is in many ways the polar opposite of that. It is a fresh, extremely feminine bowl of fresh, tropical fruit that moves to a walk through a thicket of blossoming magnolia trees. The first thing you get off the opening is a fairly indistinct, quite heady fruit cocktail that clears in the same way a cocktail does when you set it on the bar after it has been poured and the heavier, darker ingredients sink to the bottom, giving it that nice colour phase sunset look. Here the fruit accords clarify into distinct mango and peach in the top. It needs a few minutes to settle before you can really get into what is there in the opening. The rhubarb sits subtly with the florals in the heart, underneath the slightly tart top notes. It is juicy and sweet so the florals keep it honest and fresh and the magnolia is really powerful. It moves into the peach and magnolia show as the two accords intertwine, walking a narrow path between too floral and too fruity, but doing it with confidence and, I have to say, considerable panache. The base is a slightly woody vetiver that works really nicely with the magnolia. The wood is subtle and you really have to look for it. It doesnt go heavier in the drydown but the vetiver comes more to the fore. You wouldn't call this green in the opening but it does go greener as it dries. What is interesting is the magnolia and vetiver makes this a fair bit better performing than you might expect. The fruit dies off after a couple of hours and the scent becomes basically fresh vetiver and magnolia so you could never call this one linear. The projection and sillage is predominantly magnolia after a couple of hours. This is a fragrance I enjoy but probably wouldn't wear. It is too feminine for me to carry off, although it is the sort of thing I love to smell on women. It isn't sensual really, there isn't an erotic undertone I don't think. This is a day fragrance as opposed to an evening/night out fragrance to my nose. But it is maybe a bit complex and with too much going on to be properly casual so I think a lot of women who wear this will agree when I say this probably isn't a signature daily driver and may be a bit too strong to wear to the office. What is wrong with people? They find every fragrance with the words Neo, Eden and Neon and say that this smells like them. Just stupid.

Does smell like rhubarb, but also like white wall paint, white flower, acetone-y. Only tried on test strip briefly. Wish the rhubarb was more dominant since the paint white flowers vibes makes me nauseous, but that's also a very subjective opinion. Might buy a sample to see if it would work with some layering. Looking for a CDG rhubarb sherbet replacement :(

I have a sample of it. I could picture both guys and ladies wearing this. I think it's right in the middle. Very good quality.
