Le Sel de la Terre

Le Sel de la Terre by Thomas Kosmala is a salted lemons with an aquatic clean musk. The salty lemons are so strong in the opening that I think most people automatically say no to this fragrance, but I am here for it! The musk softens the fragrance as it dries down and this smells like clean laundry misted with a men’s cologne. I also own Maison Francis Kurkdjian 754 and La Sel de la Terre smells very similar to that, but 754 is just a little sweeter and mellowed out enough to attract a bigger audience. I got the Thomas Kosmala sample pack and out of all the fragrances Le Sel de la Terre was the one the stood out the most to me and I kept on coming back and smelling it and wearing my sample. Sure enough I sprayed my sample all over my neck and one day I got in my friends car and he paused and looked at me and said, “Wow you smell really good, what is that? It’s citrusy but different and clean, I really like that!”. I went home and bought a bottle that night!

You’ve just run your knife across the rind of a lemon and inhaled the incredible zing. The aliveness of its potency mixes with a distant salty note that could easily be the Mediterranean Sea out your back door. You marinate in this easy sense as the sun kisses your skin, bringing out your natural musk, then slowly fades into evening as the breeze picks up the scent of distant woods. This is the fragrance of a perfectly simple experience. Elegant, natural, and easy.

Tried this underrated gem multiple times and it’s amazing. Very fresh, clean, neutral and transparent water type of smell with pinch of salt. Think of a hybrid of MFK Aqua Universalis and 724 but laundry detergent vibe reduced. As a result, it’s much more mass appealing. I’d use it at times when I don’t wanna wear any fragrance or right after the shower to have that layer of pleasant smell.

This is my first niche perfume, and I have to say that everyday I love it more and more. It smells like the ocean but in a good way, it's salty and fresh and it dries beautifully in the skin. Usually perfumes with oceanic notes are too much for me, they smell like seafood, but this one is different and amazing. I've seen it compared to MFK perfumes, but for me this is better.

Sel de la Terre is a soapy and clean smelling burst of lemon and bergamot and sea salt that sits on top of a warm base of musk and wood and the slightest smokiness. Its is light and airy in the way you want a summer fragrance to be. It has moderate sillage and projection. Love this fragrance.

Truly a hidden gem! Very similar to MFK Universalis Forte.

Le Sel De La Terre..... literally translates as "the salt of the earth". A citrus marine fragrance release by Thomas Kosmala. At first sniff I did like the fragrance, but didn't find it to be interesting enough to warrant a purchase. However on my second attempt at sampling this, I did end up buying it (also because got a great deal during a sale ;)) . First impression is salty citrus, owing to an endearing amalgamation of sea notes, lemon and bergamot. The floral heart notes kick in quite quickly but are adequately balanced by the marine notes, which holds the fragrance from sliding completely into the feminine domain. The base is dominated by woody notes and musk, good thing about this release is that the listed notes are quite accurate, there is no mysterious underlying note in the composition. Overall a solid citrus marine fragrance to be used in summer and spring, but nothing sets it apart from the herd. Having sampled a number of TK fragrances, still haven't found anything to surpass TK No.4 Apres L'Amour. TK No. 8 Tonic Verte is a juicy citrus fragrance, but the performance is something which leaves a lot to be desired TK No. 1 Tonic Blanc is a stellar neroli, orange blossom fragrance, but similar to TF Neroli Portofino TK No.10 Desir De Coeur is a variation of TK No. 4 TK No.2 Sève Nouvelle is though an interesting release; lot of diversity in the notes; saffron, champaca flower, pink pepper, water pepper, cashmirwood, etc. I might end up buying this some time in the future. Back to TK No. 7 now..... All seasonal scent? Works brilliantly in the searing heat and the spring time. Unisex? Easily workable for both genders. Blind buy worthy? I suggest trying it on first, but as citrus marine scents go, its not a miss by any shot Performance? Longevity better than 7-8 hours, projections arm's length and sillage moderate. Price? Expensive, wait for it to hit the discounters

Salty lemon and a bit of ocean breeze. If you’ve ever had a lemon drop and salted your hand before licking the lemon, that’s the opening, exactly. A lemon drop drunk next to the sea, with friends. I get no soap, thankfully, as I’m not a fan of soap. As the next and longest lasting stage develops, we get some very light white flowers, and the dry down features a lovely mild musk. The lemon persists throughout the whole course. Super super fresh. Perfect for really hot climates. This lasts a solid 8 hours with a moderate projection. It can be bought fairly inexpensively and since I think this is one that could suit many different situations it’s a good deal. Totally unisex, maybe leans a bit masculine but I’d love this on a woman on a hot day.

i definitely get le sel — the taste of sea and lemon fizz on your tongue, a bit of sweat and a lot of carefree — and i just wish there’d be more la terre in this fragrance. it’s pretty and light, plain musk as it dries down. it doesn’t project much on me, but as intimate as it is, the longevity is quite good.

Not a masterpiece but nice and refreshing. I live in a very hot humid place, and this is just great for summer: citrusy, salty, aquatic. Sure, it does smell synthetic but still beats Speed Stick... Too expensive for what it is. Get the Versace one instead if this kind of scent is your thing.

Too me this smells very soapy. If thats your thing, then this fragrance is for you

I can confirm that this does smell like MFK 724. The thing is the MFK is way smoother and a lot less synthetic even though it's synthetic itself. This is a great fragrance but the "Floral notes" dominate the mid and dry down on my skin and it can be harsh at times. I just tested 724 a few days before I got my decant of TK #7 and I was floored on first testing but today I wore it again and the other side that I didn't like came out. Im glad because I was going to pick this up. Id say get a 3ml-5ml decant and try this a few times if your looking for an MFK on the cheap, Thomas Kosmala can be had for good prices on discounters. The performance is good so no need to overspray and it's one of those that will not smell good if over-sprayed. - Lemony fresh opening, some watery aquatic-ness but no calone, white forals and white musk play a big role for the duration of the wear, not much woody notes if any. Very synthetic smelling on my skin. Leans a little fem but 724 smelled unisex on me. Performance isn't an issue so that's a plus. Sample once or twice before you purchase. For me, it's a pass.

Unfortunately incompatible with my skin chemistry - the combination of citrus and marine devolves to dish detergent. On my husband this opens with aromatic herbs, drying to a mineral citrus. The development manages to be both fresh and grounded - early summer morning in a lemon grove by the Mediterranean. Projection and sillage are high-moderate, longevity is disappointing for the price point but unsurprising for a citrus fragrance at about 4h.

This smells pretty soapy. Has some of that clean laundry vibe. I think it might be lily of the valley. I also get the salty marine notes. This does remind me of some MFKs, which I don't like. I prefer my citrus without a side of soap and salt water.

Citronella mosquito repellent. In a bad way in case that needs clarification.

In a nutshell, after this dries down it's quite similar to MFK Aqua Universalis or perhaps Aqua Universalis Forte. I've worn both Kurkdjian fragrances and own the latter, but it's been a while, so I can't say decidedly which of the two fragrances No. 7 Le Sel de la Terre comes closer to—perhaps Forte. Nonetheless, the similarity is unmistakable to my nose. At the time when I ordered a sample of Le Sel de la Terre, I was on the hunt for coastal, oceanic, marine fragrances (e.g., Heeley Sel Marin, Miller Harris Fleurs de Sel, Tom Ford Costa Azzurra Acqua). I ordered this one based solely on notes and retailer copy, as neither this site nor the other one had any reviews. I'm disappointed with this purchase. Not that it's a bad fragrance per se; it just doesn't convey a rocky, brush covered coastline, dampened by wind driven salt spray, to me. Not only that, but Le Sel de la Terre resides somewhere on the more artificial side of the natural-synthetic spectrum, and I was looking specifically for something that comes across natural and organic (regardless whether its chemical components actually qualify as such). Overall, this fragrance is not a bad one and does not smell like it was put together by a novice. It's just not in the style I was looking for, despite the way it was characterized. I'll leave the task of describing the actual notes of Le Sel de la Terre to somebody more capable.

Another MfK comparison right under me! I’m pretty familiar with this No7 and like it quite a bit, but wearing it recently I realized an MfK fragrance it shares some distinct characteristics with: 724!! No7 is overall more masculine but still a unisex fragrance, not as floral as 724 either but there is a distinct familiarity with some light soapiness, with No7 also being more mineralic with its aquatic facets. The citric airy aldehydic floral nature of both is unmistakable to my nose and it was a surprise as I realized the shared qualities in them. Both are great bright and super clean musky white floral-esque fragrances any guy can have in his arsenal as they are more rare for us for sure.

This perfume is very interesting for me. I see how it can smell ‘generic’ and soapy leaning slightly femanine but I also see how it can smell incredibly unique. My mind jumps back and forth like an optical illusion. When it smells unique I smell a large amount of salt mixed with sunscreen on top of a small amount of floral and citrus. The scent brings me back to every beach memory I’ve had which is an incredibly beautiful experience. I focus on this aspect of the perfume and it’s my favorite freshie. I see how it can be perceived pretty generic but choose not to focus on that. Honestly an amazing fragrance in my opinion.

Thomas Kosmala continues to bring us longer lasting twists on beloved fragrances made with fine ingredients. Is this also an inspiration? Yes. Is it a clone ? NO ! This reminds me of a hybrid of Aqua Universalis and 724. This has a brighter citrus than those two and definitely longer lasting as you can experience across all TK fragrances. You’re getting niche quality materials and DNAs at a fraction of the price without going into clone territory.

i wanna like it but this is straight up cleaning products to me i can’t correlate this smell with anything else so i just can’t take it seriously as a perfume

Very strong fragrance. Too me it’s pretty floral. Strong Projection & longevity. Kinda more feminine if you ask me. Still a powerhouse of a fragrance.

Smells like Lemonheads hard candy that is a bit less sweet than the candy. Fresh and probably good for super hot days and trips to the gym.
