Filigree

This to me reads as a light (but not white) tea, spices, and effervescent. It reminds me strongly of the bowl of spices you take a handful of at the end of the meal in Indian restaurants which are refreshing in an herbal or medicinal way. (I looked up the name and I think it is called mukhwas.) Also reminds me of faint, tea-based version of Aromatic Bitters.The scent has just a tad of warmth, so it's not metallic, but still ultimately on the crisper side. Works for spring and fall days or quiet summer nights of contemplative activities (though not totally). The bubbliness keeps it active, but it's up to you if the activity will be flow activities or dreamland. (I don't get creaminess as the other reviewer did.) When I bought this bottle years ago, I simply wasn't ready for the scent and let it sit for a long time. Only now am I really appreciating it's simple elegance, and pretty undemanding kindness. It gives a feeling of rootedness and lightness. If I am very troubled or anxious, sometimes I will spray a strong fragrance at bed time which I cannot always take. I think it gives me like a weighted blanket feeling. Well, when that happens and I need calming but also am too fragrance overloaded, this is the perfect, perfect scent. Refreshing and grounding and herbal, but not green at all.

Filigree opens with a sharp blast of juniper and some indistinguishable spice (I am not personally a lavender fan, but I would say I catch some in the opening as well as ginger). If you love Clinique Wrappings, you won't be put off by the intense woodsy opening. The opening is off-putting for some, however the dry-down is the amazing part. After the initial balsamic blast, you get a gentle and even powdery finish. It reminds me a bit of creamy Chai tea in its combination of spice and smoothness. To my nose, there is a hint of resin in the dry down, which to some=funk. Not to me though, though I could live without this particular note. I presume it's supposed to be amber, but I'm not sure. It is most certainly a cold weather scent, but I am so in love with it, I wear it year round. It reminds me of luxurious cashmere and a snowy walk through Central Park. The silage is poor, but I spray on my clothing and scarves and it lasts quite well. Filigree is still outstanding as an EdP, however to to really get a sense of this fragrance, which is so sensual and unique, I recommend trying the body wash or lotion.

Gorgeous aromatic and slight floral scent. I've been wearing this since it released. Even though it can be herbal, it is so airy and easy to wear. The juniper in it is so soft and comforting, not gin-like at all. It's just such a fresh and easy-going fragrance! Every time I think I've had my fill of this, I end up wanting another bottle.

I first heard reverent whispers of the enigmatic Filigree from Thymes before the 2014 relaunch, and my interest piqued, I tracked down a bottle on eBay. Never have I read such wildly differing reviews about a fragrance! The Thymes website sings praises of its intricate layers and elusive nuances, and alternately people refer to it as rich, spicy, warm, creamy, and luxurious, but despite the dissimilar impressions, it is undeniably universally beloved. To my nose, it is a scent just this side of crisp and not exactly fresh. It reminds me of antique lace doilies and porcelain teapots It is gentle lemon peels and sweetly grassy and a delicate dusty amber that translates more as vanilla. It's light and lovely and apparently, many things to many people, but we all seem to adore it.
