Akragas

#1169 in my "Tour de Fragrance" I miss the ocean. Half my life was spent living on the waterfront and I miss it. Left my home on Monterey Bay for a tour in Korea. Lost my house on Commencement Bay in a divorce. Moved from my home in Orange County for a promotion in a place that's a two hour drive from saltwater. But I spent the next twenty years traveling the globe, rarely seeing the inside of my own house. So, until smelling this scent, I haven't noticed the vague claustrophobia I feel being this far inland. This marine scent is the first to make me nostalgic for my former homes. To my mind, marine scents represent a departure from the fragrance roads most traveled. The first I owned was Ralph Lauren "Polo Sport", a fairly nondescript scent I bought at the pharmacy and kept in the gym bag. The second was Nautica "Blue Ambition", a scent I gave away because of it's terrible performance. Then I discovered Bvlgari's "Aqva" scents which I enjoy enough to have kept several to this day, along with one Maison Alhambra clone thereof, "Aquilo". I've tried decants of V Canto "P.D.F.", Bond No 9 "Wall Street" and "Island", all fine scents. But this "Akragas", for me, is next level. It smells like jogging along Monterey Bay at sunup (a waterfront since ruined by development). The really strong salt & seaweed calms down in about ten minutes when it smells more like the coastal rocks I used to sit on to watch the seals while they bobbed in the waves watching me. Yeah, this is very nostalgic for me. I don't know how attractive it is or who will or won't like it, but I don't know that I really care. I hate reviews that say things like, "There's a timeless quality to this scent. Like the ocean itself." Just kidding. It's so not timeless. While I like this scent very much, I find the performance disappointing. It completely disappears even as a skin scent by lunch, which seems a commonality with the marine scents I've tried and own. So you will definitely need to respray midday at work, and probably wouldn't make it through an hour of manual labor, but it'll last through a dinner date. And though I'm not sure smelling this is even emotionally healthy for me, I'm in for a bottle.

Akragas by Tiziana Terenzi represents a new direction for the brand, from the classic overly fruity, synthetic, sweet, musky, oudy, heavy and dense fragrances. I am aware that this fragrance was released three years ago, so it’s not a brand new launch, but I haven’t heard anything about it on social media, until I saw it on a shelf during a recent trip in the South of Spain. Me, being a huge lover of aromatic, marine, aquatic, salty, white florals, I felt instantly that I have to test, after checking out the notes. And I was right! It’s a glorious scent of this genre. It’s not an entirely unique scent profile, but from what I’ve tried from the brand, it’s unique. With that being said, if you already have perfumes like Salina, Aqua di Sale, A’mmare, Sandflower or Reveal, all mentioned by others reviewers to be similar to Akragas, you kind of have Akragas!!! I have bought Akragas even though I own three of the scents mentioned above because I love the source of inspiration for this scent, the town of Agrigento, in Sicily, because Tiziana Terenzi fragrances are performing impeccably (Akragas is no exception) and because I am running low on my Salina bottle. So I bought Akragas specifically as a replacement for Salina, which is 95% identical juice. Not to forget that the price was very reasonable, they were having summer sales up to half off price for quite a few niche brands, including Tiziana Terenzi! I would highly recommend Akragas to anyone who loves this scent DNA, irrespective of their gender! It’s not a beastly scent like others from the brand, but it has great longevity and moderate sillage. And nicer looking packaging/presentation compared to Salina, for example. Overall, exceptional aromatic, aquatic, salty summer weather fragrance!! Tiziana Terenzi hype has died down, but they still release beautiful scents, give the brand a shot, you might discover little gems as well.... I am eyeing next Tyrenum and Arethusa, both beautiful salty, marine scents, with a variety of fruits, tea, caramel and spices!

I really like this one. It's decent quality. The top and mid are fantastic, a 10/10. They don't last but an hour then it's the smooth base notes as listed which has a pretty common but quality smell with some lingering marine elements that I rate an 8/10. It's got some initial power that fades quicker than expected. The smooth base last awhile on my skin with me still detecting it the next morning. I would love if the top and mid lasted longer. An easy 9 out of 10 for me. Really enjoying this. As of now it's recently been available at an absolute steal of a bargain that I'm afraid to bring recognition to. Tiziani Terinzi is an enigma of sorts. Are they an ingredient showcase? They have some sort of extra access to premium ingredients. They flirt with being something between Mancera and Xerjoff. I'm enjoying going through their collections. Don't fear but use caution when exploring. This house has some of the most dynamic price volatility at discounters with some real treasures out there hiding and popping up once in awhile. So sample now and get that radar developed for the random deals. I recommend

I blind bought a bottle at an incredible price, and when it arrived and I tried it I wasn't impressed with it very much, but sniffing it for hours on my forearm, and felt how wonderfully it developed to a soft musky fresh scent I couldn't resist buying a backup. No regrets, this is not the typical cloying TT fragrance, it's elegant, sophisticated day time fragrance you can wear dressed up or casually. Between this and Foconero, I don't need to waste money on horribly overpriced designer fragrances anymore for the summer. These are fresh, high quality, non-offensive and I feel they more than the usual average of natural ingredients. This is better than Foconero, and while it's not bad, Foconero's opening is not its best attribute. They are both decently long lasting for freshies, but I do enjoy Akragas more.

Tiziana Terenzi boasts an absolute masterclass of a marine fragrance with Akragas. This transports me to a rocky coast, and it's almost as if all my troubles magically whisk away the moment I apply this. If only. Nevertheless, Akragas is undoubtedly one of my favourites in the marine / aquatic category. I'd argue this is certainly an underestimated fragrance. Have hardly heard a peep about it since its release, aside from what's on this page. It would benefit from lasting longer, as I really only get a noticeable 4 hours out of it. From then on, it really settles down, to the point where I can hardly detect it, aside from maybe the faintest of occasional traces (unless I'm just going nose blind). But really, everything else is completely positive in my books. Glad to have a bottle.

I expected it to be more aquatic and salty, although all the TT fragrances I've owned or tried have never disappointed me. Fresh herbal start, after a while it turns a little sweet. I smell dominant myrtle with thyme, neroli and grapefruit just a hint. Beginning I would move to the feminine side. After half an hour or so, seaweed and salt are added. Here I like it the most and it lasts, although weaker, towards the end. In the lower notes it goes back to earthy sweetness thanks to patchouli and especially benzoin with cedar, maybe there is also a slight musky creaminess. The marine note is still quite prominently present. I would rate it 9 out of 10, unisex thanks to the feminine start and rather masculine end. Sillage medium, longevity above average.

My new favorite aquatic. First spray is instant trip to the shore. Reminds me of the wooded northern central coast up into San Francisco. It’s kind of uplifting. Very fresh with a nice Myrtle in the opening. Has a sort of incense/white pepper and spice notes after about 30 min which I love. Maybe the salt and cedar? Stays clean with a little vanilla sweetness around hour 3. This just smells fantastic. For $60 at Jomashop, this was a great blind buy. Update Oct 2025 - still beautiful and a pleasure to wear. What a great work scent and pick me up. I stand by my review.

A great smelling Italian aquatic! It's very similar to it's sister companies Giardino Benessere Salaria, so no need to purchase Akragas if you have this in your collection. If you don't have Salaria, then Akragas is unique enough to be a worthwhile frag to sample. Tiziana Terenzi offers higher quality than Giardino Benessere so if you find Akragas at a similar price to Salaria it would be my advise to grab it. I found Akragas for $75 USD which is an outstanding value so I grabbed 3 bottles!

First impression: this is a great aquatic scent with herbal touches. It reminds me a lot of Acqu Di Parma Mirto De Panarea which I also love. Herbs, myrtle, salt, and a touch of sunscreen. Very nice. Lasts longer than the Acqu Di Parma but I'd need to get a good deal on a bottle to make it worth the stretch on my wallet, because I can find Mirto De Panarea for around 80 dollars for 5 ounces. After testing throughout the day I really dig this. Scent 8/10 Performance 7/10

When I first tried Akragas, I felt like I am at the beach, smelling the scent of the sea and salt. It's a fresh sea fragrance that opens up with the loud sea feeling thanks to the Mediterranean seaweed, Sicilian neroli, Sicilian Myrtle and the citrusy feel of grapefruits while the heart of this gorgeous fragrance is kind of spicy and salty. The drydown feels so sweet, musky and gives a cozy vibe when feeling it on your skin. It really makes me speechless.

I usually shy away from anything with pronounced marine notes; seaweed and calone especially and even sometimes salt. Despite my apprehension, I ordered a sample and wow, I’m surprised ! There is a unique melody playing; bright citrus, something slightly sweet and herbal. The salt and marine notes are comfortably there throughout but it does not overwhelm. I ordered a full bottle.

Akragas is really a masterpiece that envelops the wearer into the aura of natural beauty and feel of deep, beautiful valley of temples surrounded by heritage. It's an emotionally inspired fragrance with long-lasting longevity and enormous silage. Akragas is intense and superb pleasant from opening till dry down.

Reminds me of Old Spice fougere but modern and niche caliber. I know...sounds crazy. Get your nose on it. The grapefruit accord is realistic and lasts into dry-down. Has a nice floral backdrop.

Beautiful aquatic. Have many Tiziana bottles and decants. This is an exquisite aquatic. Glad I purchased. Just smelling this cools you down. Great work.

Akragas by Tiziana Terenzi is inspired by the Sicilian coastline and the ancient city of Agrigento, capturing the feeling of sea salt, Mediterranean vegetation, and the warmth of southern Italy. Instead of going for a bright or overly blue aquatic style, it feels more atmospheric and textured, like walking along the Italian coast with salty air, herbs, and sun warmed stone all around you. So the question is, does Akragas give us a beautiful stroll across the Italian coastline or does it leave us wanting to run back to shore? The opening is very familiar to me in that distinctly Italian style. You get a salty myrtle floral accord with a slightly camphorous and powdery edge that reminds me a bit of fragrances from Lorenzo Pazzaglia or Filippo Sorcinelli. Soon after, a really nice thyme note comes through that gives the fragrance a fresh herbal quality with a subtle minty touch that helps separate it from a lot of other marine scents. As it dries down, Akragas becomes smoother and slightly sweeter with the salty notes blending into soft vanilla while the geranium, cedar, patchouli, and musk create that classic masculine shaving foam style drydown after a few hours. This is a classy and very well made masculine leaning herbal marine fragrance. I have to give it credit because everything feels smooth, natural, and carefully blended. My only real criticism comes down to personal taste. I have tried a lot of herbal marine fragrances over the years and there are others I would probably reach for before this one. Still, that does not take away from the fact that Akragas is very classy and very well made.

Carthusia A’mmare lite! First few minutes are AMazinggg.. soft warm powdery floral. Other than that, Identical smell. Still has that Vicks menthol thing going on but toned down. Even drys down to what I’ve described as ‘a dark chocolate bar bathing in the sea’. Sun-kissed salty skin after a swim.

I don’t know that I can add much that hasn’t been added, other than it has a beautiful and smooth vanilla in the base that makes this so beautifully blended. High quality oils, I could still smell it after a shower! Amazing salty, floral, musky and vanilla fragrance.

similar to armani bleu turqoise but the opening has some shaving cream/gel smell to it which i dislike.

This combo of notes ends up with something very reminiscent of baby powder. Good silage and longevity but I cannot go out smelling like this...

Just to look at the notes, this has nothing to do with the relationship between those two scents. Think again Wolf hehe This is a soapy clean scent that reminds me a lot of Endymion from Penhaligon's. ( Thank me later ) wink wink but in the same time reminds me of Acqua di Sale but in some a slightly softer, sweeter undertone. Stronger and in the Italian style. Summer / Spring daytime fragrance . Very uplifting scent. I would describe it as a "busy morning" active lifestyle at the day. An interesting creation above all. Nothing that threw me off my chair But fans of clean, airy scents with a bit herbs ( 2% hand creme / hand lotion wibe in good way it's my association only 2% ) ... will definitely find it here. I personally don't like Neroli but thank God I don't even feel it here. Neroli is probably some kind of player in the background at the start. I don't feel it at all.. This is a luxurious men's hand soap. Thank me Later 8/10
