Arrakis

As I write this review, I have Mystery Tobacco on one hand and TT Arrakis on the other. This specific genre of fragrance is one that I absolutely love, and therefore have sampled a large number of them with minimal differences. I'm going to do my best to differentiate between five of the best IMO from the ones I have sampled in this very narrow scent profile. Those I have chosen are: Mancera RT, PDM Carlisle, Argos TOB, Mystery Tobacco, and TT Arrakis. From a distance (or on the back of my neck) the sillage on these are pretty indistinguishable with slight differences. Up close, I believe the closest two are Mystery tobacco and Arrakis, and the main difference for me is the emphasis on certain notes. I'm going to be rather general in my descriptions of these five so as to save words. MT and Arrakis I would describe both as sweet cherry tobacco scents, with MT having slightly more emphasis on an underlying ashy tobacco, and Arrakis having more emphasis on the aromatic and sweet cherry accord. I believe Arrakis leans more towards TOB which is boozy, sweet vanillic, and aromatic; whereas MT leans more towards the opening of RT and the dirty tobacco. NOTE I said 'leans'! To me RT is not super pleasant, too much sweetness in the drydown and harshness up front. Carlisle in the opening comes the closest for me into gourmand territory, with an almost baked pie accord. Unfortunately the dyrdown has too much vanilla and is pretty guaiac dominant. I have finally ended on Mystery Tobacco because it is my favorite blend and fusion of all these characteristics, despite being probably the weakest of the bunch in performance. However, by no means is it a weak fragrance. I'm not going to rank these; it depends which characteristic you want to be highlighted. BTW I don't think Herod belongs in this discussion, as it is too far removed from these five. If you're deciding between these, give 'em a sample! You can't go wrong secondo me :)

The name Arrakis derived from Mu Draconis which is a multiple star in the constellation of the Dragon also known by the traditional name « Alrakis » which is derived from the Arabic name given to it by Arab observers, al-Rāqiṣ, "the trotting camel" or "the dancer. Arrakis is also an imaginary planet from Frank Herbert's Dune Cycle universe. Also called Dune, it is a desert planet entirely covered with sand and rocks, traversed by the immense Worms of the sands. Despite this, it plays a crucial role in the galactic economy, since it is the only source of the vital « Spice ». This movie created by David Lynch is one of my favorite science fiction film ever and it marked my youth as much as Star wars. The fragrance is a an intense Woody Spicy fragrance from the Luna constellation collection and launched in 2019. The nose behind its composition is the talented perfumer Paolo Terenzi. 💫Top notes are Osmanthus, Citruses, Spicy Notes, Saffron, Thyme, Rosemary and Grapefruit 💫Middle notes are Tobacco, Guaiac Wood, Vetiver and Patchouli 💫Base notes are Tonka Bean, Cambodian oud, Amber and Musk. The perfume opens with bright, creamy, citrusy and aromatic notes, then it settles its base on a woody semi gourmand blend with a beautiful Turkish tobacco note combined with a fruity boozy note. The dry down is a lovely amber, oud and tonka bean combo with hints of white musk. The scent has moderate projection and sillage and a great longevity. If you're into fragrances such as Naxos by Xerjoff and Tonka impériale by Guerlain you will probably dig this. The blending of this creation is really amazing and according to the nose @p.terenzi , it was not made on the traditional pyramid way but more on a spiral style like the constellation it was inspired from. Arrakis is for sure bright like a star that will surely be welcomed in the constellation of my favorites fragrances.💫🤗💖

The name Arrakis is believed to have come from the Arabic name الراقص ar-rāqiṣ, meaning "the dancer," originally a name for the star Mu Draconis. The journey to ARRAKIS, the fragrant star by Tiziana Terenzi begins with a whisper of sparkling citruses and aromatic herbs that read very italian on skin. But what I find makes ARRAKIS truly special is the contrast between light and darkness, and how everything works in perfect equilibrium. The incredible perfume opens on a tridimensional cocktail of citrus fruits, pairing the acidic bitterness of grapefruit to the sweet refreshing aroma of bergamot and lemon revealing a bright luminous start. This awakening introduction connects into the heart centered around a narcotic essence of tobacco drenched in the rich sweetness of tonkabean developing a gourmand effect as the apricot facet of osmanthus reveals a fruity tone supported by a leathery nuance of saffron that work wonders as it diffuses into the creamy and exotic substance delivered by cambodian oud, the smoky shadows of guiac and the strong earthy addition of patchouli, framing the final phase of ARRAKIS in a quintessence of darkness and allure.

To me it is closer to PDM Carlisle and CH Mystery Tobacco than Mancera's Red Tobacco, and it is sweeter than any of them. Unisex leaning feminine quite floral opening swings the other way after an hour or two to become masculine leaning unisex. Longevity, sillage and projection are very good, borderline enormous. Definitely fall/winter scent, but would be perfectly acceptable for spring nights, even in late spring. Retail price tag of $550 is absolutely ridiculous, but if you buy it at discount sites, price drops so much that it becomes ok, if not a graet buy. I had it at double sale for $98, at this price for this quality, performance and presentation it becomes kind of chipie! It is a top shelf tobacco frag, and if you like sweet tobacco scents and see it under $160, Arrakis is full bottle worthy and safe buy.

I like it. BUT, honestly, I have to say it smells like Red Tobacco by Mancera. I have both of them, and I would say they're 95% similar. Arrakis is a little bit darker and maturer, the projection is softer than RT. Arrakis is a gentleman. Red Tobacco is brighter, more nutmeg, more sourness from oud. Red Tobacco is a young man. And RT is more like a linear note. If you tried both already, I bet you will find the similarities. Red Tobacco was launched in 2017, Arrakis was launched in 2019. About the price level....uhm, depends on if you want to pay for extra packaging details or not.

This one is sweeter than the notes suggest,at least to my nose, start like a sweet ,dense ,jammy tobacco with great projection and sillage. Longevity is really really good and the dry down it’s a very elegant, smooth woody, ambery tobacco, the musk that Paolo Terenzi uses is just distinctive and comforting. Be very careful spraying this one on white clothing, the juice is deep red and since it’s an extrait de parfum it’s very oily.

Arrakis is my new cool weather love. It combines the best elements of Naxos, Carlisle and Red Tobacco into one of the most mesmerizing scents I've ever had the pleasure of getting my nose on. If you're a fan of any of those releases and you like spicy fragrances, you'll likely love this. Easily one of the best fragrances in my collection. Scent: 10/10 Longevity: 10/10 Projection: 10/10 Price/Performance Ratio: 9/10

Reminds me of Xerjoff’s Bouquet Ideale, not the same but the tobacco scent is very similar. I think this is truly unisex, smells great on my husband and on myself. I also tried layering it with Tiziani Terenzi’s Lince to soften it a bit and make it more feminine. Also have layered with Xerjoff’s Bouquet Ideale. It’s a beautiful and alluring scent. Keep sniffing my wrists all day long. Addictive.

I have have worn Red Tobacco, Carlysle and Naxos, and Arrakis is closer to Carlysle by far. It smells nothing like Red Tobacco, which smells cheap and heavy. Naxos is a bit too sweet and light. Arrakis is less complex than Carlysle but projects much better and lasts much longer. Naxos and Carlysle are very good, but Arrakis is better.

I love Arrakis! It is a long lasting tobacco fragrance which becomes this wonderful amber and Tonka bean smell. I found it works better on skin than clothes. The heat from your skin begins to project this through out the day catching wafts of it.

Arrakis is EVERYTHING! The tobacco note is absolutely divine - rich and smooth, not at all harsh. It's perfectly balanced with the warm spices and woodsy notes, making it incredibly alluring and sensual. I get compliments every time I wear it!

Absolutely beautiful. Nothing like Red Tobacco which is awful (imo). This is smooth sun warmed vanillic tobacco, no harshness or sharp edges. Softly buffered. Something you wear and catch gorgeous wafts of your own sillage - must have.

The reviewer stating this is a fruity fragrance and is not tobacco forward either got a bad batch, a fake, or is suffering from some olfactory disorder. I would put this up there with Herod, Red Tobacco, Toboccomore, Tobacolor, etc.

Smooth and Sweet tobacco, kind of reminds me of a bakery in an inexplicable way... Kind of shares a Red Tobacco/Triumph of Bacchus DNA but this one is a lot more Mass appealing IMO, gorgeous bottle as well. 8.5/10

Batch code is 0194911. When I first sprayed it, I was instantly reminded of red tobacco and that sweet cherry like tobacco. As it drys down, it’s getting buttery. In the air, it has maple syrup vibe. In the deeper dry down, its got Spicebomb Extreme vibes and I am really loving that. It’s a nice toned down very smooth and well rounded tobacco perfume for the most part. No harshness at all. Aventus is my scent of the day and it’s not out projecting that so I’d say it’s got a medium projection with good longevity. Good scent for the cold weather.

Extremely sweet and quite pleasant woody spicy scent. The perfume opens with citrusy aromatic notes of lemon, osmanthus, grapefruit, thyme and rosemary. The heart is comprised of guaiac wood, tobacco, patchouli and vetiver. The perfume settles on a powdery base of amber, tonka bean, and synthetic musk. The unisex scent has moderate projection and sillage and very good longevity. All in all a lovely but unsurprising scent that works very well in warm weather. Enjoy!

The first couple minutes is definitely like red tobacco, that medicinal chap sticky slight cinnamon/cherry opening. After that, it turns into a matured and gorgeous tobacco fragrance. This is what red tobacco wishes it was!!

not that close to red tobacco , closer to carlisle , only a 15% more fresher and complex in the drydown reminds me of a better blended tobacco vanille

More grown up, greener and more mature opening than others in this genre. I can't help but notice a red fruit accord that stands out, like in Red Tobacco, like apple, maybe even some strawberry, though not listed notes in Arrakis. Would have liked to have the tobacco in this scent, remain into the dry down. If you don't want redundancy in your collection, I'd just pick up RT. Day Wear SPRING/FALL/WINTER

This is not the scent of Arrakis—it doesn’t come from Dune, and it’s definitely not how an Atreides smells. This is exactly how the most brain-dead Harkonnen who just fell into a vat of apple pie filling would smell. It reminds me of all those sickeningly sweet Arabic clone scents that have been clogging up the streets ever since they hit the market. It’s a fragrance with a crazy, high-end price tag but the actual quality of a cheap Egyptian perfume stall. As a massive Dune fan, I totally fell for the hype and bought a decant. What a disaster.

Just a hot mess yo smells like red tobacco pouring up with baby Tylenol

True to its name, Arrakis conjures up an otherworldly tobacco experience that is simultaneously sweet, smoky, and spicy, taking one on a thrilling, intergalactic adventure without ever leaving the room. A potpourri of spicy notes greets one at the outset alongside a whiff of saffron and citruses. This mingles seamlessly with osmanthus to create a rich dried fruits accord that reminds me of scents such as Straight to Heaven, Camel and Tobacco Vanille. This mélange of fruity spices wraps itself around a core of fragrant smoky-sweet tobacco. It's a smell that recalls cigar bars and free-flowing conversation. I get light boozy nuances and everything is wrapped up with an earthy heft from the patchouli, vetiver and guaiac wood. It projects moderately, creating a lovely scent bubble that lingers for hours and grows softer in its dry down as tonka and and musk create a pillowy blanket over the skin. The wearing experience is one that is incredibly comforting, a ideal scent to luxuriate in on a cool day while relaxing indoors.

Definitely similar to Carlisle. Arrakis nails the warm smooth fruity tobacco thing perfectly. But its missing the sweet cozy vanilla, earthy patchouli, nutmeg spice thing that Carlisle has in the drydown. Arrakis dries down to more of a straight tonka bean, patchouli, tobacco. Its not something anyone will notice, but I noticed because I smelled them practically side by side, and thats an aspect of Carlisle that I really appreciated. I still like Arrakis alot though, because although Arrakis is missing the sweet cozy vanilla spice thing in the drydown found in Carlisle, its also missing the potpourri thing that sorta happens in the mid-drydown of Carlisle since the patchouli in Arrakis is a little less heavy handed. So Arrakis wins in that regard. I just think this DNA in general is almost impossible to mess up, and Arrakis is definitely one of the best in this genre Ive tried.

It's closer to red tobacco than carlisle. It has less of an edge in the opening than the mancera. I think carlisle is the best of the 3. If money is an issue go with the mancera as it will give you just about the same results. It's this kind of redundancy that gets boring in this hobby. I got red tobacco first and then I gave it to my dad when I got carlisle. Just got arrakis because I found it at a good price. On its own arrakis is a nice fragrance but it's missing something that would set it apart. If you're going to clone something at least clone something much more expensive than your what your own brand normally offers. This might be my last TT purchase unless they do something drastically new and different. Too many of their offerings come too close to something that came before. Paolo may be a good perfumer but he lacks creativity and originality.

Really well done... i honestly am very happy that i have this with me. the bottle itself is a beautiful piece to have, but for the actual juice it’s a sweeter and deeper triumph of bacchus to me. I love it, first spray is quite spicy but the spices completely fade after a few and it’s just this really sweet rum and tobacco. not linear at all on my skin, it’s always changing to something and it’s fun to smell. I see all of the comparisons and they’re true but ngl this one’s my favorite out of them all. Top 5 frag i have as of rn! 9.2/10 for me personally.

I have tested Carlisle, Mystery Tobacco, Triumph of Bacchus, Arrakis and Red Tobacco. All aforementioned are much better and smoother than Red tobacco. Arrakis came of a bit spicier. Carlisle is more vanilla forward and a bit smoother. When i found Arrakis with a very good discount i decided to buy it instead of Carlisle. Mystery Tobacco has better, sharper and more forward tobacco note than all of them. Triumph of Bacchus is waay fruitier version of this DNA. When we compared TOB and Arrakis, my wife liked Arrakis more. My score: 8.5/10

Got a sample and did enjoy it... however I would say it does come off very similar to Carlisle. Especially in the dry down. I think that Carlisle is a better performer and a bit more vibrant. If the extra $100 give or take deters you from carlisle, I think this would be a reasonable substitute, albeit with less performance. Something to note though is that there seems to be a reddish colored dye in the scent and it will stain white clothing. So be mindful of that.

I only get fruity. Very little of the rest. Don't be fooled by some reviews emphasizing tobacco, this is definitely not one you would identify as a tobacco fragrance. Does seem strong and long lasting
