Chimaera

Chimaera is Mr. Terenzi's magnum opus. Although Laudano Nero initially drew my attention to this house, this fragrance compelled me to seek out any of the offerings from Tiziana Terenzi (and Paolo Terenzi's other work for V Canto) that I could get my nose. Its THAT good. The blend on this rivals any of Roja Dove's, Francis Kurkdjian's, or the Guerlain family's best creations. The ingredients used in this masterpiece absolutely scream quality and refinement and it's presentation (complete with it's own lighting system) is among the best I have ever seen. Chimaera is without a doubt in my top 5 fragrances of all time. Depending on what distance you smell this from, different notes jump out at you. Depending on how deeply you breathe in when smelling this, different notes jump out at you. With every wearing of this perfume, different notes jump out at you. This progresses and changes dramatically throughout its drydown. It jumps off the skin for the better part of 8 hours and lasts for much longer than that, leaving a beautiful, thick scent trail behind it's wearer like a cape in the wind. Chimaera encompasses everything I love in perfumery, and the moment I discovered it my standards for what makes a fragrance "great" were raised immediately. It is smokey, sweet, deep, balsamic, slightly animalic, and slightly citric. The main notes that others have noticed and I can consistently pick out from it are tobacco, caramel, oud, leather, honey, pepper, and lemon. However, one note that is dominant which others have not pointed out is iris. Those familiar with the waxy, lipstick-like iris used in popular fragrances such as Dior Homme Intense/Parfum and Valentino Uomo Intense will certainly notice a similar, albeit much higher quality iris note which blends with the tobacco, caramel, oud, and leather to give this perfume it's complex base. I believe this fragrance clearly leans masculine but can be worn by a confident and strong willed woman. It is best for fall, winter, and spring but can also be worn (sprayed modestly) on cool summer nights. I believe this is blind buy safe to anyone that views niche perfumery as an art. However, this perfume has also received praise (read: compliments >.<) from both males and females in the mid 20s age group. A must have, and I do not offer that praise lightly. Just received a 2020 bottle... let’s start simple: presentation is absolutely grand! Feels very luxurious.... Ok.... Love at first spray.... Truly complex, but so beautifully blended. The opening with Tolu Balsam and Saffron is sweet with the brightness of Lemon. The spice begins with an earthy vibe and the Black Pepper. In the middle I get a slight floral freshness- but only slightly. The Honey makes the sweetness a bit richer at this point, and the Carnation and Red Pepper add more spice to the overall body. Then the base notes open and WOW! This is where it’s at! The Tobacco is so perfectly balanced with the Caramel, then punctuated by the Agarwood, and Benzoin. The Cashmere and Labdanum give a powdered softness, that is then anchored by a woodiness and Leather. Overall, this is a beautiful beast. Walking down the hall, my husband asked, “What’s that?” He said it was spicier than I wear, but he loves it. She is complex and changing from start, middle, to finish. She is elegant, but is a beast that will take on a monster. She is sexy, but not to be trifled with....She is bright and sweet, dark and rich, spicy and consuming. Just as you dip into the depths of rich spice you are lifted with a sweetness form the honey and caramel, and are taken though the with the swirling aroma of the tobacco (I get bits of thyme and sage eminating through). Savacsaian said: The notes won't stop bubbling to the surface and bursting into the air. I stand by what I said: Chimaera boils in a cauldron..... I couldn’t agree more. Stunning fragrance. I’m in love.

I just received the Chimaera today with 2019 batch on it, great opening and mid, just one spray on my wrist and I picked up random notes morphing in and out. This is a delicate, exotic, sophisticated, warm, and very sexy scent. The dry down reminiscent of Dior Homme Parfum due to the powdery iris, wood, and leather where they both have in common. On my skin, I get about 2 hours of projection and sillage, then died down to a nice and soft skin scent. Overall performance does not seem to be as nuclear as the DHP but it is a good trade off for such a complex scent. I think this is a very robust and versatile fragrance, it's unisex, and sure to please just about anyone at any age. I would wear the Chimaera in Spring, Summer Night, and Fall. May have to go heavier on the trigger with a few extra sprays in Winter. Update on 5/19/20: This is one of the best if not THE best masterpiece release from this house, I'm already thinking about picking up a backup copy of this gem.

An incredibly dense and multilayered Oriental inspired by the perfumers travels to regions in Turkey said to be the lair of this mythical beast, this ‘beast mode’ fragrance is a spicy gourmand that evokes elements of earth, fire, seas, air and mountains. The perfume opens in a smoky cloud of black pepper, lemon, saffron, leather, tolu balsam, thyme, bay leaf and soil tincture. There is a dense floral gourmand middle consisting of iris, red pepper, carnation, peony, honey, magnolia and sage. Finally it settles into a masculine powdery smoky base of patchouli, cashmere, labdanum, benzoin, caramel, oud, tobacco (dominant), leather and pine. An incredible shape shifter on my skin evolving in one dense layer after another, skillfully blended, masculine leaning, with tremendous sillage and projection. This one is high quality luxury perfumery. Shares many resemblances to the newer HDP offering Outrecuidant. Warm, growling and enveloping. Enjoy!

Not sure which batch my decant is from so seeing as this fragrance varies from batch to batch this is what I get. Right of the bat the similarity to M7 (vintage) is very apparent. Very similar for the first bit but then off of my skin the pine notes jump. This actually makes this fragrance fresh in a sense and lightens the mood. This is sweet like m7 but different. It's apparent that it's the caramel giving the sweetness because it's somewhat lactonic in nature. This to me is m7 with a twist, not a clone but could be a flanker. Longevity is superb. Still on my skin after showering and when I put my nose to wear I sprayed it after showering I can detect the pepper still and that soil smell, it's nice. If you love m7 you'll love this.(If you're batch is like mine I guess) A really good fragrance

Well, what can I say I revisit this page because I changed my mind completely on this scent and wanted to share. Oh Chimaera — it's like I turn on my sad button and enjoy this sweet state. A dissonant acchord. Tristan and Isolde. In opposite to the other melancholic scent that I own –Apres L'Ondee– this one feels more like grief. Chimaera is so complex and nuanced like an irridescent black stone. What do I get from it? I don't even know, it's so well blended that the notes in here create something more than its single components. It's mature and sexy, masculine but sweet, dry but nourishing at the same time. Like a vulcano, beautiful but destroying. Thanks to this one Tiziana Terenzi will forever be a brand that is on my radar.

I tried this one in early 2019 (so I guess a 2018 batch). I remember it as oud-y, dark, leathery, tobacco-ish with a hint of sweetness in the background, and strong projection. Basically a strong masculine fragrance, leaning a bit unisex. I got myself a 2019 bottle. It's the exact opposite: spicy opening (that is identical), strong balsamic caramel note forward, with noticeable suport of sweet honey and vanilla. The wood note is subtle, in the background, the tobacco is missing, and the projection is soft to moderate. Basically a strong gourmand feminine fragrance (that not even leans towards unisex imo). Not sure if my memory is playing with me, or if there's a real difference from year to year. To be continued...

The anti-hype fragrance in the TT line. As others have mentioned, this receives zero plaudits while others such as Laudano Nero, Orion and Kirke dominate the discussion on TT fragrances. This is not only a great fragrance in the brand, but it is also extremely unique, which is somewhat rare for TT fragrances. I have the 2020 and it performs fantastically well, and it morphs in the air helped in no small part by the beautiful sillage. It is spicy and dry, sharp and sweet, and soft and deep all at once. Truly a unique experience.

Anyone noticing difference based on the different years??? I have tried it three times and got different vibes each time. I wonder if maybe the flacons were from different years... On me, I first get thyme, sage and oud. Then it turns balsamic and sweet, but not like vanilla sweet! More like a honey/caramel sweet, which I prefer. Once in a while traces of citrusy and spicy notes. Pine trees. Bitter-sweet. Amazing perfume. Really long-lasting.

If it’s possible for me to have a holy grail fragrance this would be it. The tolu balsam is divine. For those ignorant people asking why the fragrance varies by year, I’m shaking my head. Clue: natural ingredients ... ever heard of wine being different from year to year? For those saying this is generic, or average, you’re trolling. This is perfectly balanced between the lemon, balsams, oud, caramel and cashmere. Best scent by this house.

Do not sleep on this! Absolute cold weather banger. Ambery and sweet, a little spicy, a little smoky with some leather it doesn’t reinvent anything but checks all the boxes and has fantastic performance, idk where the burnt hair comparison comes from honestly almost gourmand especially at the start try this!

I cam never like a leather fragrances but oh my, this is, this is... B E A U T I F U L ! ! ! SCENT: 20/10 Projection: 7.5/10 Longevity: 9/10 (11hrs +) Occasion: Night Out/Events/Casual Definitely only for cold weather. Paolo you're a genius.

Just received the 2021 edition , it's not that enormous beast some people said , but yay it's almost strong (or maybe thats about the edition i have ) , but overall a nice sweet oud fragrance with a cool lightning box and presentation

This is a pleasant yet complex fragrance. Densely sweet which is well rounded and dark, spicy, musky, little herbaceous, a tinge of sour citruses, earthy, layered with the facets of oud and leather. This has resemblance to Mancera Red Tobacco in the dry down, where Mancera is uplifting and bright, this one is dense and warm but equally euphoric. This is all weather and all occasion unisex fragrance. Overall Perfume IMO 8.5/10

that stuff is great 1 of the best in the line i get a bubble gum vibe from it this mean they use very high end quality in this, scent 7/10 longivity 8/10 sillage 8/10 compliment 8/10 overall 7.5 /10 very well made! too feminine for my taste!

This is a really complex fragrance, very well blended. It reminds me a cheap candy from my young ages even though I think it has nice quality ingredients. Excellent performance and outstanding presentation. For me, it's totally femenine.

Nose Note #871 One thing I have in mind just like with Orto Parisi and Nasomatto fragrances: "I don't want to wear this ever again". It's sweet and weird. Very unisex with subtle unbiased masculine touches, but not something that I personally consider masculine. Weird leather note, something super artificial not exactly in a bad way. It's crafted nicely, it just smells like something out of this world. The name is fitting. It's very sweet and plasticy, I guess. This plastic-safron-spicy accord is not working with me. The fragrance is very very strong and long-lasting, but never overpowering yet still not nice to have around for so long. It would sit perfectly in Alessandro Gualtieri's repertoire. Super strong, super strange, very sweet. 5/10, not masculine, just strange

This is a rich and divine gourmand.... sweet yet refined, slightly sour and challenging, but blended such that I'm not assaulted by sensations upon spraying it. Like the mythic hybrid creature, Chimaera shifts constantly as you experience it, with various notes jumping out, but never departing from the initial cozy wood smell. Not 100% for me due to the leather and tobacco, but I'm surprised how much I like this in spite of those notes-- if you're on the fence about it, this is really worth testing.

On my wrists and neck, it's sweet, floral, powdery, creamy, and way too feminine for me. On my chest, it's spicy and woody with lots of depth. Well-made, but too much floral in the heart notes for my taste. Would suit someone else beautifully, though. I'm surprised at how masc this one comes across to other commenters here, and wonder if I got a decant from an off batch...

Sour leather opening. Dries down to a little softer leather with some spice and ambery sweetness.

Chimaera is a legendary monster with a lion’s head, goat’s body, and a serpent tail prominent in Greek’s mythology. However, the word may be used in contemporary culture to indicate a shape shifting, abstract animal or object composed of different and implausible parts. Part of the anniversary Tiziana Terenzi collection, this luxury fragrance embodies the body of this fictional monster by mixing the components of woody and dark notes of leather, tobacco, and oud, with gourmand accords of honey and caramel into its composition. In this 2019 version decant that I have, Chimaera starts off with a huge pepper and saffron opening that is mixed in with undertones of leather. This aura of middle eastern spiciness paths the way, almost immediately, to a sweet, fermented-like honey accord that juxtaposes itself with the saffron in the opening to produce an extremely waxy, syrupy, and sugary note, visually representing a bright, loud, and yellow coloured leather jacket. Extremely sweet from top to bottom, this fragrance base notes land on a benzoic caramel cloud, but in order to provide some sort of complete assertiveness to this mixture and balance its sweetness, small doses of tobacco and oud may be found in the base notes that become more apparent the longer it is on the skin. A feminine fragrance in my books. Excellent silliage but average longevity. To me, the whole composition of this fragrance reminds me of a “foreign” candy that I am not completely used to. Imagine living in Northern Africa and ordering a South American chocolate or living in one of the Nordic countries and eating a traditional Asian treat. Even though the undertones of tobacco and oud as skin scent is what I love the most (and to be honest it is insanely great), the extremely rubbery and plasticky top/mid notes kills it for me; after couple of hours, I would re-smell the fragrance on my skin again and the sticky, sour, and “foreign” sweet structure of the fragrance will comeback to haunt, and sometimes overpower, the excellent woody notes. It always seems to be out of place to: Very happy and bright for winter, too sweet for spring, too ashy for formal occasions, too cloying for indoor encounters. Far away from the luxurious aura Tiziana Terenzi is trying to convey with its presentation, I think Chimaera is more ordinary than lavish, and should be only recommended to fragrance connoisseurs. Dislike PS: I am shocked some reviewers say this fragrance has green notes since I cannot smell any of these in my decant.

Complex as it is, this thing just comes off to me as burnt hair for the most part. It does dry down into a beautiful oud, which is a plus. This is for the mature crowd and, I do see how that this is a very divisive fragrance. Not for me but, maybe for you. So, try it before buying it.

Not my cup of tea. While I can appreciate the complexity here, at the end of the day it gives off a burnt hair smell to me that I can't get over.

Alright, time for an updated review and another headache. I have so far tested a 2014, 2017 and 2018. 2014 being the most honey heavy one. 2017 is the sharpest one. 2018 is the most balanced, but somehow less complex one. I own 2017. I will be focusing on 2017 and will make some mentions on the 2018 and 2014 formulas. 2017/2018: Opens with citrus, piney herbs, peppercorn, spices, and leather. At this point both years are 98% similar, 2017 has a sharper piney peppery aspect. Leather, tobacco, saffron, oud, and caramel start making appearances, and they stick around to the very end. In 2014, the opening has a strong honey note, and about 10 minutes in the leather and spices start taking over. A waxy iris hint along with balsams and resins start heating up. It becomes fiery, feisty, and oh so handsome. The bouquet starts to form, and the chili pops up, and the peony pops up, and just about now the honey starts embracing the whole thing. 2014 has more cashmeran to my nose, and this is why I think it leans more feminine. The loveliest hint of patchouli shows up, and the pine and labdanum harmonize with it really well. I love that this scent resembles an orchestra where the players come and go in different timings. The spicey sharpness? Went for a walk. Herbs and flowers are playing their part now. The magnolia and carnation are gorgeous together, they bring a clarinet-like melody to the composition. Important to note that the leather/tobacco and oud act hand in hand through the entire development. I don't see them splitting up at any point. Once the caramel and honey take the backseat, you can hear the benzoin doing its thing, as it was supporting those two other notes in a seamless way. There is a tremendous amount of art in this formulation, and it truly touches me. It reminds me of someone who means the world to me - and even got him tattooed on my skin. In days when I feel I need a cane, I spray this and its enough to bring him back to life, as he is no longer with me. The notes won't stop bubbling to the surface and bursting into the air. I stand by what I said: Chimaera boils in a cauldron. To this day this is one of the most complex scents I've tried. I can't recommend this enough. And yes, I got a headache. But hey, love is a headache also, so.

First thought upon sniffing: Passion. It smells like passion, but not in a sexual way. It smells like the impulse, the driving energy. There is bestiality to it, there is aggression like a fireball. 'What a fitting name', I said to myself. The sample I have is from a 2014 bottle. As other reviewers say, this perfume is extraordinarily well blended. I will attempt to do my very best at describing it: In a cauldron, you have equals part caramel and honey. It's hot, sweet and heady. If you take 10 steps back from the cauldron you get fumes of pepper, saffron, bay leaf, leather and thyme. You will get some acidity that you will associate with lemon, but this is pretty much a default note by the soil tincture and opening notes. Among these notes, oud, tobacco and balsam are ever present and it gives body and mystery to the honey and caramel. If you take 4 steps closer to the cauldron, you get red pepper/paprika and a bouquet. Now, this is SO well blended that you will have trouble picking apart the flowers. Due to the spice, you will think or carnations. There is also a slight powder that you will associate with iris but if you sniff too hard the red pepper will tingle in your upper palate. And then you take 3 more steps and the whole thing becomes overwhelming. The resins are more pronunciated now, and the honey is so hot it starts burning the tobacco and the oud. A slight minerality comes as a result, but before you keep sniffing you start feeling light-headed. You're drunk. You've been trying too hard when the scent is not intended to be picked up on. It's a beast meant to be appreciated, even feared but not understood. My absolute favorite from this house, and also one of my absolute favorite perfumes of all time. Fits easily in my top 10. Surprisingly, the bottle I got is a 2017 edition and I there is a good chunk of honey headiness lost. Now, I might have gotten a well made fake (I hope not). I will compare my 2014 sample with my 2017 bottle when I get home and update this review afterwards.

So, I was searching for a unisex fragrance that me and my husband both could wear maybe. He is fond of spicy woody ambers and I am more attracted towards tobacco and floral scents with citrusy base maybe. So, it was quite a difficult combo to find around. In the scent shop, I described the same to seller and he prompted with this amazing fragrance. Before even trying it, I fell in love with its superb presentation that felt luxurious, classy and so elegant. Reading through the notes, I found almost everything I desire but was not sure if practically these are well blended and can meet my requirements and desires or not. So, finally I tested it on my skin. I sprayed just 2 atomizes and went around to see the way it settles and dry downs as well as to check the performance and longevity. I must confess, the opening notes didn’t appeal me much. They were actually more of masculine I feel. There was leathery feel with the black pepper, nay leaf, thyme, hydrogen, red earth spicy vibes with the citrusy lemon and soothing saffron. But soon after around 2-3 hours, I was able to smell flowers kike peony, perfect flower, carnation flower magnolia and honey and incense that later dry down to patchouli, caramel, tobacco, pin wood like woody scents. Settling down appealed me most followed by dry down which was surly the awesome one. Silage and projection are strong and longevity is superb too. Just a wow scent that is rich, perfectly blended and simply beast. Masterpiece! Loving it!

I wanted to fall in love with this, truly. Sometimes I feel the romance between us but it leaves me feeling like we are going through the motions. Chimaera is a meloncholy scent that instantly makes me a little sad, like two people who love each other but in very different ways and cannot be together. Mr Terenzi has created a masterpiece in that it evokes potent emotions and conjures memories of things both real and imagined. I can smell the iris in this very potently. I hate iris. I can't smell tobacco at all. I love tobacco. I have no good reason to be so masochistically attracted to Chimaera and yet, I am. Something about this scent reminds me in a postive way of a mans chest and a woman's hair. Well done. Scent: 7/10 it is memorable to me but not something that I can easily tie to a true memory, but a hazy feeling. Projection: 4/10 sadly for me this is very weak on my skin and lays pretty limp. Sillage: 2/10 nearly invisible. Longevity: 5/10 it lasts only a brief time, 5 hours max for me. Honestly and fairly subpar for what I have come to expect from Terenzi. Would i buy a full bottle? The price is double if not triple some Terenzi compositions that I like much more. I will enjoy my decant and likely let it fade into memories all it's own.

Chimaera is in my top shelf since last few months because of amazing blend of notes mainly that compels me to wear it every now and then. The notes used in this amazing scent ate absolute masterpiece that screams refinement and quality at its best. The presentation is outstanding and as far as I remember, the best one I ever came across. The progression of notes from opening to heart and dry down is marvelously dramatic and amazingly beautiful. This works perfect with my skin, lasts almost 12-14 hours. On clothes, I can smell it till the next wash. I love this longevity and the silage which is enormous. Projection is at least 2 arms long leaving a trail behind. The depth, sweetness, smokiness, animalic, balsamic and citric feel of this stunner makes it all in one kind of scent that is sure to meet everyone’s expectation. This fragrance is all good for men, strong, confident women. Overall 1010. Love!

Sweet saffronic tobacco. It's like a sweet yet sour tobacco blend with some chilies. It has patchouli, carnations, pepper, vanilla, and balsamic notes. This is quite complex and contains quite a huge number of notes in! As a matter of fact, the deeper you inhale the more notes you'll detect. I detected peony quite big in the dry down. After all it's creamy balmy dark blend. Edit (9th Jan 2017) This has an overdose of chilies, styrax, balsamic, & soil notes. The caramel isn't the top note, but the tobacco, oud is then comes the honey, the chilies, balsamic, soil, and styrax. I also detect allot of black pepper, geranium, citrus, and peony. It is quite complex.

For two years now, I've been on the hunt for Chimaera! So, eventually I learnt thru Grapevine that limited numbers were in my country and I decided to splurge on it! To my nose, this niche fragrance is basically an oriental gourmand that opens briefly with sweet notes of Caramel, Honey, before Tobacco, Agarwood, Leather and of course, Omani frankincense (which isn't listed by Fragrantica) spans out in the later stages. I hope some of you get this review. This has Lagerfeld vibes. Waaaaayyyyy better, but those same truly masculine run the office vibes. This is now one of my current favorites. I've been pulling it like everyday. It's so diverse, can be worn any weather and mood any occasion. It's a real chameleon. I have actually been smelling it in needless markup and always bought something else. Not sure why as I finally bought it and it's an instant top ten for me.

Chimaera 2017 is a powerhouse of projection and longevity. It's overall impression is a sweet musky lipstick rose-iris scent with cool tones of saffron, cocoa and tobacco adding mystery. Very nice rose and cocoa contrast, actually. A small spray on the back of my hand lasted over twelve hours with massive projection. It's a very complex scent with a gourmand sensibility and remarkably distinct notes. Really well blended and creative.

Currently wearing a 2019 batch - definitely nothing even vaguely resembling burnt hair. If anything it's maybe a wee bit boring - a very approachable but nice warm spicy type of thing, well blended enough that no one note really stands out. On initial application I got a somewhat chocolatey accord that I assume was some combination of the caramel, tobacco and patchouli. There's the tiniest hint of smoke somewhere in here as well.

Beautiful example of smooth, dark, complex, uber quality niche but it was a blind buy and is not one of my faves so I'm looking to thin out some of my collection ... the bottle I have is the 2019 Anniversary edition RRP $425. Only used a few times so 99% full. I have the AMAZING lighted box too (most packaging I toss due to storage consideration but this one is a keeper). Any interest? Send me a message

I agree with MARFUOFFICIAL'S short and to the point review. I'll add that this is nothing unique. It's good but easily forgettable. A very simple wear consisting of mostly leather, oud, and black pepper on my skin. I don't think it's full bottle worthy but a nice 10ml decant will most likely suffice. Floris's Honey Oud would be a better full bottle gamble.

This one was surpsrisingly pleasing. So mnay times you have hype but nothing follows once you have in hand. Very potent fragrance. I like to smell myself all day and this one did not dissappont. Lasted my full 10 hour work day. A solid 10 for me for performance and scent!

Being an Oriental woody-leathery cologne, Chimaera strikes as one that would stand out from the ones marketed by "others". Tho' its price is steep in my country, I'm about to conclude plans to pick this gem of a cologne!

The best batch will come from 2018 summer, it was the sunny yet mild, so the blooming was at its greatest. 2016, 2017, 2019 are not so rich in my opinion in performance One of the best perfumes hands down

Really good laundry detergent if you ask me. Smells like something a designer would do, not niche. I have no idea why the price point is higher on this one.

This actually reminds me of m7 oud absolu but much more refined and elegant. It's more dimensional as well. If anyone wants to swap off their bottle lmk.

Synthetic mess, strong alcoholic beverage scent through all the lifetime of the fragrance, and it lasts for days on clothes.

Very similar to amouage jubilation, but less fizzy and dynamic and a bit heavier. Same rubbery dark fruity oud
