Gin & Rosewater

Very fond of this, even though it is rubbish for lasting power, absolute rubbish. There is such a wide range of opinion here, I think,it goes to show either that body chemistry is NOT a myth as some say, or that some of you must have had some fantastically mistreated bottles. Or both, I suppose. I must have remarkably neutral chemistry, because everything always smells on me pretty much the way it does in the bottle, minus the initial alcohol blast. I never have issues with things souring or turning to Eau de B.O. Lucky me! So on me this does smell like flowers like alcohol...gin & rose water, exactly as it says. I was in a boutique that carries the Tokyo Milk Curiosite & Bon Bon lines, and I was entranced by this. Florals are not usually my thing, by the way, because I get monster headaches from most of them. Suddenly the salesgirl is RIGHT NEXT TO ME leaning in conspiratorially and says in an awed tone that 'Blake Lively LOVES this one'. OMFG, Blake Lively, you say??!? Like for serious, the real Blake Lively?? OMFG, do you have like, more in the back?!? I'm totally going to buy every bottle you can shove in my basket because BLAKE LIVELY would hang out with me if we ran into each other and then my life could end. Um, not. I almost DIDN'T buy it because of the salesgirls then going into a tizzy about how amazing Blake is. I could not care less, although I'm sure Lively is nice enough. But it did smell cool, so home with me it came, along with the matching lotion. There's not much to say other that it does smell like a cocktail with roses in it, but I do mean that in the best way. It reminds me of a very grand, very old lady whose physical glory is behind her but she still swaths herself in furs and pearls and a head wrap and a silk bias-cut gown to go out anywhere and is DROWNING in gin and tonic but is not drunk, no. Just drinking her gin and tonic like she did when she was a beautiful young flapper and life was gay and tasteful. So it's not 'old lady' like ' old lady organizing doily collection while tending to the cats and watching Dr Oz'. No, I mean hip old lady who might swear on occasion and has a gold cigarette case and holds her own with the leading man. It's a very light happy scent, does not change much as it progresses, and gets me compliments...if I go out within half an hour of applying. I'm telling you, the longevity is $@%#. I don't get an hour and a half, and my skin doesn't eat scent. I guess that May be why it seems pretty linear...no chance to develop. In my experience almost all of the Tokyomilk line is this way, which is SUCH a shame because though they are not pricey ( under forty dollars) they become pricey when you go through more in less time. However, they are almost all so interesting and haunting that it's worth it. I layer with the lotion and a little almond oil and take the bottle in my purse ( it's smallish & the cap fits well) to refresh myself. If you find it in a boutique, try it for sure. I would definitely buy this again.

I tried this a few days ago in a boutique, along with Honey and the Moon. I like this one much better than Honey, though neither one was bad! Gin and Rosewater was very floral at first, with a strong rose scent and a tinge of citrus fresh greenness that mellowed and became woody on my skin. I have to say, while it wasn't strong, it stuck around on my skin for 4-5 hours. I can't say that there was much "gin" in it, but it did have a sort of mellow, kind-of alcoholic scent to it. Imagine the platonic ideal of what hand sanitizer smells like, I thought it was pretty good but it didn't add a lot to the overall smell. Basically, I think it's a perfectly fine scent for the price range, and it's way nicer than mass-market perfume, but I also wouldn't spend more than $40 on it. The light and airy scent makes it seem like a good choice for a young woman just starting out in perfume, and the price backs up that impression.

I think this smells absolutely lovely. I didn't love the first whiff out of the bottle, and even when I first applied it I wondered if I were going to regret it - it started off as a sharp floral to my nose. That typical "perfume" smell - like that of an older woman who has worn her signature scent for so long that she can no longer smell it and pours it on like water - that I hate so much. Even then, there was something intriguing lurking behind that sharpness. Within a few minutes it softened and warmed up. It smells warm, without spice, and clean, without the sharpness. I can smell what people are describing as the "fizz". There is definitely something that reminds me of a light cocktail, some not-so-sweet fruity spritzer. It sits close to the skin the the lingering smell of your favorite soap.

A gorgeous scent; like Beach Girl, I'm smiling. Starts out strongly floral--probably roses--but, quite unexpectedly, suddenly citrus notes appear with the roses. Unusual. Had it on now for 1.5 hours, and it's still strong--I smell roses more on one wrist and lemons on the other, go figure. I also smell coconut, but I smelled all the bottles from the sampler--btw, the best way to try this (or any) line--so it may be that the sweet nutty smell comes from another bottle. Anyway, this is a real winner. Can't wait to try the other scents in the sampler. Edit: I'm wearing this again--two weeks later--and now the initial dab is strong citrus, like grapefruit. Can't wait to see how the drydown morphs. Absolutely no coconut this time. Still luscious!

I bought this as part of a sampler set on a whim because it was so inexpensive. Of the Tokyo Milks in the box, this was my number one by far. I adore this happy, upbeat, uncomplicated fragrance, perfect for a spring or summer day when you're out and about and want a little mood elevator. I don't get rose or rose water, just a gorgeous, sweet-tart fruit candy and -- for a brief instant when it's first applied -- a hit of gin. The gin almost instantly vanishes as, alas, does everything else, albeit more slowly. As others have noted, this isn't a perfume with staying power. I get about an hour from a hefty application which is sad -- but then all lovely things are fleeting. I'm going to buy a full bottle when my small sampler bottle is empty.

Oh this is a lovely one! I applied it all of 10 minutes ago and it is a light, airy, very comfortable, mood-lifting and easy to wear fragrance. Despite the name there is neither a heavy rose/rosewood nor a distinct alcoholic gin note. Weirdly, the reason I have difficulty with gin as a beverage is its pronounced "perfume" note, but in this fragrance it feels much more natural and subtle - just a spark of light clean floral and citrus that nicely mimics the juniper freshness of gin without the antiseptic harshness. It feels very casual but not childish - perfect for a lazy Saturday night at home, not sexy enough for a "hot date night", but I can see it encouraging plenty of cuddles!

I did not expect to like this one at all, much less as much as I did! The best association I can make for this one is quinine with a hint of dewy rose. I never drank gin and tonic, but I liked to drink tonic water occasionally when I was a teen, and I also wore Tea Rose in those days. This is a sweeter, pleasanter version of my teens. And yet it stays bitter enough to be palatable and intriguing. It's only slightly boozy. Mimosa is an interesting note that I am still learning to identify in fragrances, but it seems like every fragrance with mimosa seems to have a bit of wistful or mournful quality: this one included.

I have the lotion but not the perfume, and I am currently enamored of the scent. I usually prefer floral to citrus, but this smells of neither lemon cleaning fluid nor orange juice, which helps. It is warm without being overly spicy. This is one of those scents that can smell completely different depending on the skin chemistry of the wearer. It is my current favorite scent and I definitely want the perfume, but who knows how long my preference will last! My favorite scent actually has a great deal to do with what I am currently reading. Wuthering Heights, anyone?

This is by far my favorite citrus fragrance. It is bubbly and sweet, yet still edgy and different. It is the perfect balance of fresh and sweet, yet it is still incredibly unique and special, I've never smelled anything quite like it. The florals pair perfectly with the mandarin orange. On me it dries down with the rose and mandarin notes prominent, and something a little woody in the background, what I assume is the rosewood. Tokyo milk has impressed me with every single scent I've tried from them, they are a truly underrated brand.

Gin & Rosewater was the perfume that trigger my devotion for Tokyo Milk and the nose (a genius IMHO) behind the brand. It is one of the few scents that I know I can wear without adverse effects (sneezing, migraines)so I religiously wear G&R each summer. I absolutely adore its mix of bizarre and prettiness. The metallic tone is what make it so interesting and different. Without it, it's just another floral or citrus. Obviously, it's not for everybody, but if you have a leaning for the unconventional, yet tasteful, G&R is for you.

One of my absolute favorites and go-to's in my collection. I bought the discovery (soooo fantastic overall), but Gin & Rosewater is an absolute standout in my entire collection. It's fresh, sparkling, and bright. It smells witchy without being heavy, smoky, or synthetic. If I ever run out of this it's an automatic repurchase of a larger size. A staple scent that is perfect for layering with other green/sweet/oriental frgrances! Good and Unisex but is a bright and green scent so if you don't like "fresh", this isn't for you.

This is my signature scent. I wear this almost every day. I've told everyone who's asked about it 'it smells like sitting on the porch on a warm summers day eating a mandarin orange.' It evokes strong positive feelings from me with the bright green mandarin scent. I also always get compliments when I'm wearing this and it lasts through whole work days. I love this fragrance!!!!

Bright lemon with the bitter rind and gin. Very fresh and great for summer. No rose detected. Longevity was initially poor, but after my bottle sitting for a year or two it now lasts much longer. Unisex, leaning slightly feminine. Smell: 9 out of 10 Strength: 7 out of 10 For reference, I'm female.

Fizzy, light, the moment the carbonation of a G&T touches your tongue during a sunny outdoor brunch. Much more unisex in my opinion than the info here would suggest. Love that it's citrusy without being artificially sweet or too overwhelming, like a homemade orange juice.

Wear gin & rosewater when you want to feel like a lady. To me this smells like the most sweet, kind, nurturing scent. it smells like the most beautiful woman at the bar. it smells like long unkempt yet beautiful hair and a perfect cold air warm sun end of summer day.

Received this in the Tokyo milk discovery set and it is my favorite! It smells just like a bag of mini starbursts. This is perfect for spring and summer. The longevity is not greatest but I don’t mind reapplying it throughout the day. Definitely full bottle worthy!

I find that this has a cool, refreshing quality to it that I really like. I haven't encountered the dead fish note myself, although considering the number of people who HAVE found it does that, I'd definitely suggest a test run before you buy it.

I love this scent... sugared happiness, orange, yellow, and pepto-pink. It wears well through any season as it manages to be both cool and warm.

I love a citrus scent and this smells so fresh and lemony. I love it. It lasted about 6 hours on my skin and a bit longer on my clothes.

first of all I have to say this was almost dirt cheap to get. I wasn't expecting anything spectacular and no it's not complex or stunning but it's worth it's price that's for sure! I get citrus infused gin water that's super zesty and refreshing! It's always hot here but I would call this a summer scent to perk one up during the heatwave. I don't get much rose but I do get the scent of the mimosa. Definitely no dead fish for me, whew! As with most scents, I would recommend try before you buy but it is still really cheap as a blind buy if you can't get a sample (like me) and would be a cool treat on a hot day or as a wake-me-up zing!The longevity isn't fantastic, about 4 hours at most and stays quite close to the body, but seriously I would be asking too much if I complained. Great original composition!

It was in a cute small package at TJ Maxx, so I purchased it for my sister...ended up going back to get one for myself after she tested it initially. Wonderful lively crisp sweet citrus, mimosa/rose scent. Very bright, spirit rising so to say. I wore it on a cool --- freezing day here. Not so much of a gin fan, but it does have that waft of alcohol base there, it simply adds to the crispness of the scent. Wish it lasted longer and stronger overall. 3-4 hours and it's barely there, slight hints on my shirt the next day. For me scent puts a smile on my face and evokes feel good mood :)

The juice is that predictable urban nouveau blend of harsh notes and sweet, which is fine. I like those. But there is absolutely NO lasting this fragrance. It's like a drugstore "eau de cologne" in terms of how long it lasts. No depth to it. I'm constantly amazed how we're collectively seduced by the newest face in perfume town, without regard as to its inherent qualities. This frag is a rip-off.

Wow, this is strange... strong synthetic smell of gin, too stroooong, with fakish citrus and rose. It almost smells like gin's off or something. It strongly resembles Calgon Ocean body spray. I love Mimose but can't smell any trace of it in this contraption. With quality ingredients this could've been better. Not worth 40 bucks spent. They hugely cheaped out here quality wise. Bummerzzz:(

Starts off full-power candied citrus Starburst. Turns soapy on drydown. I suppose the mimosa-rosewood takes over the sweet citrus once the fragrance has dried down. I LOVE the opening. It is so fresh and fun! The drydown is a bit too fancy countertop soap for me personally, but it is a lovely, inoffensive, quiet, pleasant scent overall. Lasting power is pretty weak. I get a few hours.

Dead fish? Come on - you gotta be kidding me!! How can anyone get dead fish from citrus? It must be the power of suggestion. Just got this little gem, and at 38 anoz I wouldn't exactly call it cheap but I'm getting lots of compliments on this one and I like the combination of fragrances that made it fresh and sparkling.

Very beautiful, although it doesn't smell like gin or roses to me. It's big on the citrus, and it's a nice, sweet, yet sort of creamy citrus. Even the drydown smells faintly citrusy, which isn't exactly common. This is safe blind buy for anyone who likes citrus and isn't looking for a sharp or green scent.

Lovely, simple, and clean. A fleeting and refreshing rosewater tonic. A stronger fizzy citrus scent started emerging after an hour or so. Sits very close to my skin and I have to reapply frequently, but it’s beautiful. The dregs of a floral spritzer melting in the spring sun.

I love this scent. I have no idea where one would get such a distinct smell as "dead fish" from. I get a light airy scent that is one I would wear as a break in between my usual heavy scents (prada, opium etc).

smells like bergamot hotel soap and rosewater. very fresh floral citrus. light, zingy, and sweet. unfortunately it's very short-lived. no staying power :(

It's a perfume that smells like a class Starburst candy. I mean that in the best way; this is cheerful and bright and actually stays a bit on my skin.

It smells like a doll's head, that plastic head of a Strawberry Shortcake doll. I don't say this as a bad thing. It's actually quite nostolgic.

I didn't appreciate the flavor of gin at all until my late 20s. I was someone who would say - "I don't want a drink that tastes like trees.", or whathaveyou. However, that changed when someone mixed me up the perfect gin&tonic, and my tastes did a 180. I now enjoy juniper in both cocktails and fragrance, despite it being more classically "masculine". Well, this doesn't have anything beyond the slightest touch of gin, so if you're wary of juniper you'll probably still enjoy this. I was hoping for much more though :( This smells...*nice*. It's a polite general citrus and indistinct floral. Delicate and refreshing, but thin and fleeting. There's not much rose to speak of either sadly. There's nothing really wrong with this, but with the brand's macabre-lite asthetic and the title, I had expected something more substantial and intriguing. Altogether this is very, very normal, familiar and forgettable. I'm happy others enjoy this, but it's "BTDT" for me and I'm not looking for fragrances like these any longer, this doesn't stand out or capture my attention. I think it would be best worn in summer heat, because it doesn't truly unfold even in warm weather, it would be better if it were actually hot outside.

This is fine! It's light and pretty. There's just not much to it.

This is quite possibly the worst perfume I have ever smelled. I have now tried it 4 times convinced that I couldn't possibly smelling the note that I'm now convinced is DEAD FISH. (My husband's comment: "dear god, what is that?") I usually adore scents with strong alcohol scents (Wood & Absinth, Bourbon Vanille, etc) so I was excited about a scent that I thought would smell like a martini made with sweet vermouth or a gin rickey. Instead I'm going to wrap this in two plastic bags before I throw it out so there will be no chance of it getting on ANYTHING I OWN. There's a chance it's a bad bottle or something weird in my chemistry but I would advise trying a sample before you buy it.

Received a sample of hand cream in this scent and used it for a couple days. Was wondering where this intermittent fish smell was coming from in my flat, then remembered the cream but thought nah, it can't be the cream. So I checked out the reviews here to see if others had the same issue and sure enough they did. Glad it was only a sample.

I am not a fan of this perfume. I like gin, but I guess IMO it doesn't work in a perfume. And you can really smell the gin in this one. However, if someone else was wearing it, it might be ok.

No gin, no rosewater. Just an awful sour/metallic smell. A scrubber!

Smells like gin & tonic with a twist of lime.

I finally got the chance to sample some Tokyo Milk perfumes in huge small-town emporium shop. I don't know if their sample had just gone off over time or something, but this one had a terrible fish-like smell that I couldn't really wash off my wrist for hours. I did get a little bottle of Honey & the Moon though and it's great so far.

Tokyomilk GIN & ROSEWATER goes on as a very refreshing and bright citrus fragrance with rose underneath peeking out as the citrus subsides. In tiny undulating waves this creation sometimes wafts a bit sourly, which may not play out well on some wearers' skin. That's my best guess for why it has been rated so poorly by some people. I actually like it, but it definitely has an unpredictable quality which makes me wonder, whenever I'm thinking about spritzing some on, whether it will smell good on me on that occasion or not. Eventually, the drydown becomes quite nice, but the journey to the drydown is not guaranteed to be a smooth one. More and more, I am gravitating toward fragrances which are consistently and dependably good and do not require the luck of the draw to end up smelling pleasant. I'd say that this somewhat sour rose is mingling not only with the citrus but also with the rosewood to produce a rather odd effect--both pleasing and somehow disconcerting. To some it may be welcome, and it is similar in a vague way to Hermessence ROSE IKEBANA. But wearing GIN & ROSEWATER is always something of a gamble, which perfumistas may or may not be prepared to take. Of course, one nice thing about this line is that the perfumes are fairly inexpensive, and they come in small (1oz) bottles, so it is actually possible to try them out and use them without spending too much money.

This was my first try with Tokyo Milk, chosen out of so many because I love both gin and rosewater. I think Hendrick's has rosewater in it - but it's not my fav. Anyway, I sprayed it on a tissue and allowed to dry waiting for it to hit my nose. I could imagine gin and rosewater for a second, but then I read the label to discover the notes used to create an illusion of the description. I don't like mimosa to begin with, and it was the first note to leave the chord. I kind of wondered why lime, juniper, or rose weren't used; are these products a ruse? The packaging is fanciful enough; but remembering something I once overheard: "he was really cute until he opened his mouth". Don't OD on this stuff - save your money.

I absolutely adore this scent and was suprized to see all the terrible reviews! It just shows how much body composition can affect things. I get compliments on this all the time and people always ask me to repeat the name several times (I think the concept of wearing a "gin" scented perfume confuses them). Its very crisp without being too tomboyish or cold..the rosewater flower brings it back to being feminine and pretty. For night I like to layer a little Kabuki by Tokyo Milk and one last hint of this to take it into a night fragrance. This is definitely the front runner in my quest for my signature scent.

I love this perfume so much. I received it as gift and I will admit it did take me some time wearing it to decide if I actually liked it or not. At first it just kind of smelled like water to me but the longer I wore it the more complex and beautiful this fragrance turned out to be! It reminds me of fresh greenery, cucumber water, and leather jackets. Something about it is effortless and unique, while being a very wearable and timeless perfume. It is pretty in the middle when it comes to power and longevity but I have found that it is an excellent layering perfume.

This fragrance is definitely more about the lighter, sparkly aspects of rosewater. It's mixed with a mélange of citrus oils and there's a fizzy sweetness coming from something that smells like a cold glass of ginger ale. A soft hint of clove grounds the entire concoction, leaving it smelling like a bubbly, excited little girl, heading out for her first party in a new dress. A lovely fragrance with sunshine, whimsy and a lot of fun. Not an intellectual perfume but it doesn't pretend to be. ;)

I just got the cream version of this and it's so lovely! in the tin it smells almost entirely of tangerine zest with only the faintest suggestion of the rosewater, but once it dries on my skin the citrus-ness mostly evaporates it reads much more floral. I find most rose scents too overpowering and heady so I love how light and fresh this one is :] I'm not getting any gin scent from it but if this fragrance was actually a drinkable gin cocktail it would taste sooo good

Notes: Citrus Zest, Rosewood, Mimosa, Mandarin I love this and it actually came as a shock. You can really smell the citrus when you first put it on, then settles down to a very light sweetness. I don't smell the rosewood so much, but to me it doesn't matter because I still really like the scent. It's like cutting into a fresh orange/grapefruit in the early morning. So good.

I can definitely see where the dead fish comment comes from. This perfume is very finicky to me. On good dry days it smells fine, citrusy and fresh. But every other time I use it, it does have a "fishy" smell. Like really fishy and it smells awful and makes me miserable. I suspect it might have a lot to do with your body chemistry and the weather on a specific day.

Super strong citrus notes and lightly floral. Big sillage/projection for the first 30 minutes to an hour then dies out pretty quick and by about the 3 hour mark it's pretty much all gone. Really nice pick-me-up for hot weather. Small bottle is easy to throw in your purse - you will need to reapply. Poor longevity, great smell.
