Honey and the Moon

Honey and the Moon by Tokyomilk is absolutely beautiful, easily a top 3 fragrance for me! It is classified as an Oriental spicy fragrance here, and I find it very much an Oriental fragrance, boarding on gourmand, but the classification of spicy is a bit misleading. This is not spicy in the sense of pepper or cinnamon, merely very very warm. I am extremely particular about my scents and I have collected a long list of typical perfume ingredients that I find repulsive, especially when overdone, and I do have some allergies. This fragrance, however, is warm sheer delight all the way through. I have both the hand cream and the fragrance. The hand cream is much softer— the vanilla comes through more and the honey is there, just not as strong, and there is an appearance from the sugared violets as well. The fragrance, however, is someone welcoming you into their warm and cozy home in which they have honey-scented candles cheerfully smoldering. The juice is much more honey-forward with a bit of a waxy accord, a darker smokier vanilla, and just a very subtle hint of the shy sugared violets. And all this with only 2 sprays! It is very sweet, in my opinion, as I tend to test mostly Oriental fragrances and have been retesting some old florals recently. This is not a floral like Vera Wang Princess or Tocca Florence or Omanluxury Flowerlush is a floral, and what little flower scent the violets provide here is soft and subtle. This is the kind of fragrance I can smell all day, slather on my skin, bury my nose inside, and never get overwhelmed. It also stays sweet, warm, and intoxicating on my skin rather than going sour or becoming screechy. Also, I have not matured this fragrance at all yet, so this is from the very first sprays, for those of you who find the maturation process works wonders. Obviously, as a top 3 fragrance of mine, this is flawless. Perfect 10/10, would recommend to anyone who loves sweet, warm, and honey-forward scents. The hand cream gives an idea of what to expect and is less of an investment, if anyone is on the fence, and also layers beautifully with so many fragrances. I would rate the cream a perfect 10/10, too, with the caveat that if you want the full honey experience, it is not in the cream.

Hello Fragranticans, I'm relatively new here and this is my first review. After years of not wearing much perfume at all I have been on a fragrance binge the past couple of weeks – mostly blind buys based on reviews here. I have a lot of fragrance allergies, but have discovered some "safe" houses (Chanel, Yves Rocher), and am hopeful of finding more. As for the fragrances I obtain only to find I cannot wear them, I enjoy collecting decorative perfume bottles, and I generally buy minis or small sizes when buying blind, so it's not a big loss if I can't tolerate the juice itself. Honey and the Moon is one of my new acquisitions. I tried it for the first time tonight after a long, pampering shower, and it was love at first spritz. I find it delicious, silky, gently warm, light and soothing, like putting on a cozy new pair of pajamas and having a warm milky drink. I dislike extremely sweet or chemical-smelling gourmand notes, but HatM is not tremendously sugary, nor overpowered with strong edible-florals. It opens with strong but smooth-flavored honey that doesn't display any funky or sharp notes as honey sometimes has. There is a suggestion of floral violet, and a little sweet powder that may be the "candied" part of "candied violet". After a half hour or so on my skin, some hints of green and wood appear to further enrich the honey, with a mere whiff of earthy notes (salt, primarily), but it's all very subtle and gentle. Over an hour in, I'm not perceiving any jasmine yet. If it's there, it's very delicate, in keeping with the softness of the other notes. And there's no headache, nor other allergic symptoms. Yay! This scent reminds me of a good black tea, possibly flavored or spiced, taken with milk and just enough sugar to open up all the complex flavor notes. It doesn't feel like an office or big-event scent, but it's perfect for a relaxing or contemplative time of day, when you can just settle in for a few minutes (or a longer time!) and be mindful and appreciative of how utterly comfortable the moment is. :)

Ahhh give me a non-patchouli gourmande any day! After all those bad encounters with perfumes like Angel, Wish, and Jo Malone's English Pear & Freesia that made me want to cry because of good fragrances being plagued by the evil Count Patchouli, this is a breath of fresh air! I got my bottle today morning and even smelling it out of the bottle, I knew I was in for a treat! Smelling this up close on my wrist, (to my nose) there are some powdery and floral notes- which I assume are violet and jasmine. However, genuine-smelling/real honey (mixed with a bit of toffee/caramel) is the dominant note- yum! There is a slight similarity to Pink Sugar, but it's nowhere near as tooth-decay-inducing! I love sweet fragrances, but even I could not tolerate Pink Sugar very much! Drydown brought out the honey even more, and the overall smell is subtle- the floral notes are in the background. I don't see how this is a unisex fragrance, although it may easily smell tempting on a guy as well! I think this scent could be worn during any season except for summer- it might smell a bit cloying then even though it does not smell cloying at all when the temperature is less than about 25 degrees celsius. Longevity was good with the perfume lasting about 7-8 hours on me. I had a shower and I can still smell the vestiges of sweet honey on me. This is easily a 'love'. : ) P.S. For those who can't find this (especially people living in countries other than America or Canada), there are a few eBay sellers who sell this and many other Tokyo Milk products for affordable prices often. There is a permanent one there too (rhapsodygifts), but their international postage options are inflexible and they are difficult to deal with.

As someone who isn’t into overly sweet scents, I absolutely love this perfume. I tend to get nauseous with a lot of scents, and especially if they’re sweet. I do not experience that with Honey & the Moon. This scent is comforting for me. It is sweet, but it isn’t cloying on my skin. I do smell the honey, and when I smell it in the bottle something reminds me of incense. I assume this is because of the sandalwood note. On my skin, I can smell honey and something that reminds me of a cocoa butter scent. I don’t really notice the violet or jasmine notes on my skin. This fragrance felt very familiar to me, and I was trying to think of what it reminded me of. It’s Lush’s “Butterball” and “Butterbear” scent. I absolutely love the scent of Butterball, so I’m very excited to have this perfume. The other reason it might be familiar is because it reminds me of cocoa butter. I can see myself wearing it very often. I feel that this fragrance suits the colder months. Although, I have no problem wearing it in the summer and enjoy it. I find the sillage to be more close to the skin, which I like for my sensitive nose. Edit: After purchasing the full size, the full size smells completely different than the mini. This review is for the mini ^. The full size leans more citrusy, and it reminds me of “Vasilisa” by Fantome. Vasilisa gave me a headache, and it definitely has a similar scent. I assume it smells different because the mini is in a dabber bottle, while the full size is a spray. I recommend the mini size!

Ah, my first love. Honey and the Moon was the perfume that first got me interested in fragrances. I definitely smell the notes as they are listed: honeyed violets and a slightly indolic jasmine on a background of warm sandalwood. It's beautiful and unique, which I love - I don't like to smell like everybody else. Something about this fragrance makes me feel nostalgic - I'm not sure why, since I felt that the first time I smelled it. A reviewer below describes this scent as resembling sunlight shining on dust particles floating in the air, and I definitely get that. The fragrance matches the sad sweetness of the song "Honey and the Moon" by Joseph Arthur. I also love Margot Elena's Honeycomb from the Library of Flowers line. It's an entirely different fragrance from this one; both feature honey, and both are beautiful in completely different ways. I also agree with Foxzilla below: I recently smelled Aquolina's Pink Sugar for the first time, and I couldn't believe how much it smelled like Honey and the Moon. I actually came to this page on Fragrantica to seek validation for my discovery, and, sure enough, Foxzilla had made the connection, too. If you're familiar with PS, you already know what Honey and the Moon smells like, however, HatM has no citrus and is more refined than PS.

An absolutely beautiful fragrance. It is as if you were sitting in your garden and you have jasmine growing about 15 feet away where you can smell it but the smell is gentle and beautiful and you catch whiffs of it as the warm summer breeze blows its scent towards you and as it does it grabs the scent of the honey from the honey pot sitting on the table in front of you as you wait for your tea to be ready to add it to. It is a beautiful sweet realistic honey that is sugary and has that beautiful hint of jasmine. On my skin it becomes creamier and as my skin warms up the honey becomes more and more pronounced with the sandalwood and jasmine. I used 4 sprays (this is light for me as I love to overspray) It lasted 8 hours on my skin and stayed at arm's length until about the 6th hour. If you want to have something similar to Zoologist Bee but don't want to or can't spend that amount of money then I recommend this fragrance. You can click the link on the company page in Fragrantica and it will take you to their website where this is still available. It is a lovely gem of a fragrance.

Honey & The Moon is my signature scent. Honey is probably my favorite flavor in the world, and this is perhaps the truest honey fragrance I've ever found. The florals are there, but subtle, the same way one can detect floral notes in actual wildflower honey. Sandalwood keeps it from being too gooey and saccharine, but the sweetness is still apparent in every whiff. Unlike many gourmand fragrances, this is not a childish perfume. I can't imagine it appealing to a teenager, for instance. The woodsy notes add more than a touch of sophistication and elegance to what would otherwise be overwhelmingly sweet, as though literal honey were dripping down your body and enveloping you in pollinated fumes. Acrid sandalwood and a tiny bit of powder act as a counterbalance and keep the scent fresh, warm, and unbelievably inviting. This is a strange, unusual fragrance that manages to be sweet and mysterious at the same time. Honey & The Moon is a knockout and one I won't be abandoning any time soon.

My Favorite honey scent. Not a scent everyone can pull off. This is like a fantasy for me. It transports you to another time in a fictional past (let's say 1750-1850) The fragrance of choice for the beautiful and innocent heroine who is intelligent and courageous. Sophie, of Howl's Moving Castle jumps into my mind. Or Belle in Disney's Beauty and the Beast, "With her nose stuck in a book". When I wore this in an antique bookstore, the scent mixes with stale old pages and feels as though they're being brought to life... The olfactory experience is divine- if you enjoy sniffing old bookstores, that is. I do. Sweet, but not cloying. I think the sandalwood and other notes help tone it down. I really don't enjoy overly sweet-sugar scents, but this honey is deep with an earthy caramel tone. This is a young scent with a very old soul. a soft and proper lady with a sharp mind and a sense of adventure.

Honey and the Moon is such a wonderful fragrance and very special. It and Tainted Love are the only scents I like by Margot Elena, actually. One of my cooler friends was wearing it one day and I had to know what it was. She actually gave me her half-full bottle and after using it all, I bought another (unheard-of for me). It has a strong sweetness to it that is typical to many gourmand scents but without the sickly, cloying aspect. It smells like warm honey and cream to me, very natural. It doesn't smell earthy but I would describe it as such. It doesn't have the cold or synthetic aspect of a lot of other perfumes like it. Though I will say I don't reach for it often because it isn't as versatile as some other fragrances. It's not something I would wear to work or on a date. Whimsical.

There's a small boutique near me that carries Tokyo Milk. I sprayed Honey and the Moon on one wrist and Sugar Sugar on the other. Honey and the Moon was the clear winner! I love honey, and this smells just like it. I also caught the violet and sandalwood notes. Couldn't smell the jasmine. I liked it because it smelled great but wasn't super strong. My best friend is very sensitive to strong perfume, so I'm always glad to find scents that aren't incredibly overpowering. Honey and the Moon lasted maybe 4 hours, which is kind of short but not terrible. I liked Sugar Sugar too, but it was much more overt and lacked that wonderful honey note. It did have much longer lasting power though. Honey and the Moon is great, and I definitely want to check out more Tokyo Milk perfumes!

Just got this after reading the reviews on Fragrantica. First choice was Botryis Genestet, but couldn't get it readily and didn't really want to shell out the big bucks, took a chance on this instead and was really surprised in how much I liked this reasonbly priced gem. My husband who rarely notices the many fumes I wear,(last count was around 40 bottles) commented on how wonderful I smelled. This is fabulous if you shower first with LUSH's "It's Raining Men" (Honey, Lotus and Tiger Lily) HATM has three distinct phases, all are lovely. First 20 minutes or so it's fresh honey from the hive, it later on develops into a garden bouquet of spring flowers. This morning I woke to a subtle honey'd sandalwood. Great value for the price and pure happiness in a bottle!

After lots of anticipation I received my bottle today. SOOO SOFT! Honey and vanilla dominate in this one, but as pillowy clouds that embrace your skin. I was expecting to smell a hint of the florals but no floral notes were detected by my nose ( YAY!) It's a little powdery, but not so much as other reviews have described. It's extremely sweet and gourmand, without making you smell too much like a cupcake. I immediately associated it with Love's Sugar Kiss and Victoria's Secret Pink Soft and Dreamy, without the alcohol undertone. I smell whipped cream, honey, and vanilla! As much as I love gourmands, I feel that Margot Elena's best would still have to be Bulletproof, but this is a close second. Still would love to try Dead Sexy.

Although a bunch of reviews say this is mostly a feminine scent, this smell definitely works well on some guys too. The best way I could describe this scent is a bike ride on a beautiful sunny day. The scent is addicting to me and I feel like I could smell this and smell like this all day. It is my go to summer scent because of the nice honey element and the perfect amount of sweetness where it doesn't feel overwhelmingly sweet where its candy like or a lack of sweetness where there's absolutely nothing alluring about it. It finds itself in this nice in-between where the scent and sweetness is just perfect for me. I cannot recommend this perfume enough, it is absolutely delightful and perfect for the summer seasons.

I own a lot of Tokyo Milk perfumes and this is maybe my favorite overall. It's less strange and more wearable than others. It is the truest Honey scent I have ever smelled. It's a wonderful day perfume for winter and a night perfume for spring. Just really accessible and lovely. Not vintage but has a classic very old feel while feeling very contemporary. It's a gourmand that is for any age, very young or very old. The floral aspects of this give it a lot of integrity and a grace that adds sophistication and a subtle and pretty Victorian feel. Something I would imagine a young Victorian woman wearing. I think Kompeito said it perfectly when she said it's a vey young scent with an old soul.

A fragrance that for me holds years of memories. From buying it in a boutique in chapel hill during my stint at cosmetology school, to wearing it on my first date with my now husband. I’ve gone through several bottles. I do feel like there might have been a reformulation, not because I feel it smells different but because the juice in my latest bottle darkened quickly. Regardless I love this scent, sugary powdery violet dipped in sticky honey balanced with Jasmine and smooth wordiness. It’s a powdery scent that instead of leaning old fashioned leans modern for the odd and strangely unusual girl.

I don't know how other to describe this than like the jar of chocolate honey my dad's friend left behind after visiting Pike Place Market! Its a warm soft floral with raw honey that just melts on your skin. I agree that its a little on the sweeter gourmand side (less sweet than Kabuki, more sweet than Let Them Eat Cake) but its a deliciously tolerable natural sweet that's totally unlike the artificial smelling Pink Sugar. I definitely see this alluring a man like mine with a sweet-tooth! Its mouthwatering, sexy, definitely makes a great nighttime dessert if you know what I mean!

I like this one, but mostly in colder weather because it can be a little much for me. I once used this as a room spray and I really picked up on a patchouli that is not listed in the notes- not sure if anyone else has gotten that from it. It has a unique honey note that is less "clean" than in some other honey frags I've tried, and maybe a bit more natural smelling than most. Editing to add: I layered this with Lush's Dirty body spray (a minty, herbal scent) and oh wow- it's like a cup of peppermint herbal tea with honey. Such a random combo, but I love it.

I absolutely love this scent. I'm obsessed with honest scents. If I'm being honest though, it doesn't last long on me at all. I can slather this stuff on and... nothing. It wears very, very close to the skin. I'm using a small sample size (10 oz) and not the spray. No idea if that makes any difference since I'm new to the fragrance world. I do find this scent very comforting and very realistically honey like. I'll keep buying it since I enjoy it so much...just keep in mind that no one will enjoy it with you (and isn't that the whole point of perfume?)

O-M-G ......instant LOVE at first sniff !!! It reminds me sorta of Kim Kardashian Pure Honey....but better quality and more "depth" ....and a tad spicier. Smooth, not overly sweet....magical...IMO. Also, this does not smell like Zoologist Bee...IMO. Bee is way more sharp and resinous honey/beeswaxy...(I do LOVE Bee !). I am going to get Dead Sexy next....do to glowing reviews and recommendations. EDIT: After a full wearing of this, I will say, that in the drydown, this does have a Zoologist Bee-type vibe !!! Awesome !!!

Honey and the Moon is gourmand to the max. I had to have it as soon as I smelled it. Talk about pure, unadulterated honey. This is a sillage monster, lasting 8+ hours, which I am so grateful for since I love sillage monsters like Angel, etc. I do detect extremely subtle floral nuances, but it doesn't detract from the sticky, viscous, golden honey. In fact, the florals seems to add a fresh quality to all of the syrupy honey that I greatly enjoy. I get compliments every single time I wear this.
